I had a Mitsubishi 4-ton heat pump installed at the end of March 2026, and it was done by Sandium. Robert Shuper did a wonderful job - he gave me very detailed estimates, explained the whole process and stayed with all questions and issues throughout. The two contractors Manuel and Ernesto also worked very hard, were extremely nice and patiently answered all my questions. When there were issues, the way they managed everything left me very satisfied - they were responsible and professional. Their technicians were also extremely knowledgeable and determined to make sure everything was done right and fully resolved. The entire process was handled seamlessly - from applying for permits to eventually getting the rebate - by professional company. Sandium took care of all of it, so I had nothing to worry about. This review is based on my experience of trying to obtain a quote from Sandium to replace my home's two HVAC systems. Cutting to the chase: I had all around poor experience with Sandium and my business with them is now concluded because the sales estimator failed to show up for the appointment. I called Sandium on 7/11 and spoke to someone in the office about my project. She asked me to write up a "scope of work" and to email it to the Sandium office email address. She told me she would forward it to someone in the sales estimator team and they would review my "scope of work" and get back to me within a couple of business days to schedule the onsite appointment. I finally received an email from a sales estimator 6 days later but instead of scheduling an appointment, he concluded his email with "Please keep in touch if I can help in any way, looking forward to hearing from you." I emailed him back the next day and said I'd like to have my appointment scheduled ASAP. After a little back and forth via email, he scheduled my appointment for the next afternoon (Friday 7/19). He was supposed to arrive around 2:00 or 2:30. I waited 2 hours and then gave up. He didn't even have the courtesy to call or email with an excuse. There's one more thing that bothers me about this company: According to the signature section of the emails I received from the sales estimator, Sandium is boasting several accolades: 1. Winner - Consecutive Angies' List (Angi) Super Service Awards 2. Winner - Consecutive National Carrier President's Awards 3. Better Business Bureau - Accredited business | A+ Ranked I checked the Angie's list website and found that Sandium has a 4.9 rating, 69 reviews (none since 2021), but it clearly says Sandium is "Not Angi Certified". I checked the BBB website and found that Sandium has 0 reviews, 0 complaints, but it clearly says in all caps "THIS BUSINESS IS NOT BBB ACCREDITED". At least 2 of the 3 accolades listed in the email are possibly not true. If these things matter to you be sure to do your own homework. read more

I put in a request for a proposal using the Mitsubishi heat pump for three rooms. Michael came out and spent the time to review the project. Originally, I wanted the wall units. I had seen them in a nearby open house and a ductless AC was appealing for the individual room control. My house is small and space is a premium. Michael identified some challenges to the original plan and suggested the ceiling mounts. Check! Engaged sales looking for proper solutions. We went to the electrical panel and specifically spoke to the available space and solutions. Check! Knowledgeable sales identifying process. And the crew.... check! Times 10. Clean. Responsible. Updates from original post for one star- The leakage issue was caused by a defective coil on a furnace upstairs. The coil was a recalled product a few years ago. The project manager was not too friendly at that time asking customers to pay for repairs and repaint even though it is not customers' fault. I was helpless and disappointed so I wrote on Yelp to share my experience of post service. Mike, the owner of Stadium, after receiving comment online in July, on the following week sent Pat (senior system installer) to reinstall the whole furnace and repipe the broken pipes. Pat is knowledgeable, punctual, and polite, he leads his assistant to redo the system installation. The broken pipes was replaced because ac water still trapping inside and leaking out to my downstair ceiling and caused the big leakage to my ground floor. The surrounding ceiling has water stains so the drywall need to be replaced and repainted. Luckily there are no mold/mildew issues after they cut the ceiling opened and checked. I would encourage users to speak with the owner when there are unresolved problems. Mike also contracts with another company for the repair and repaint of drywall from AtoZ Drywall. The repaint job is fantastic! Now everything back to normal after a few months of coordination and redo/repair of the project. read more

For example, we have a Mitsubishi mini split and that is why we know, Miguel Mendoza is not familiar with the warranty Mitsubishi is providing. I contacted Sandium to have my central air conditioner and furnace replaced with a dual-zone heat pump, and I was extremely pleased with the team that did the work, as well as the excellent finished product. The cost was also well in line with what I had expected, and was actually quite a bit cheaper than some of the other bids I received. Tyler did the initial site survey, and managed all aspects of the project from start to finish. He was very friendly, responsive, and always let me know exactly what was happening with the project. My house only had an 80-year old floor furnace (and no AC capability) so I wanted a complete HVAC upgrade. My friends recommended Sandium. Ended up having them install an efficient Carrier heat pump (Infinity 24), attic air handler, and all new attic ductwork. Marcos, Carlos, & Pat did a really solid and thorough installation job (HERS leakage numbers are almost negligible). And the company was very responsive in sending Martin to correct some issues afterwards. Mike (the estimator & co-owner) is a no-nonsense, no-pressure engineer kind of guy who laid out different approaches/costs and then left it for me to decide. That was a little confusing at first as I was more used to salesmany types who tried to sense what I wanted/needed and then guide me toward that. So I had to do my research. We discussed several approaches: central furnace/ac, ductless mini split heat pump, heat pump+one central blower, and finally decided to go with mini split heat pump. It's super-efficient, environment-friendly and quietest approach, which is especially important for those who work from home. Mini split also less invasive for Eichlar houses with small attic. I live in a townhouse and I have one of those ceiling/pancake a/c units. I was not able to find any places that would fix it. When I contacted Sandium, they confirmed they could fix and they did an amazing job. Their tech, Steven Leza, did a great job to fix our a/c. There were some pipes that needed to replaced, he came back a week later to fix. He was very professional. The price to fix was good as well, definitely within budget. He also told us that if something happens within 60 days to the unit, he will come back to fix. Definitely will call them again if needed to service or repair our a/c unit. read more

I attempted to schedule a consultation. They did not reach out to schedule a consultation. I called the next day and was told they have been busy (which I understand). Had a service rep come in and pointed the problem to the furnace inducer motor. However, even if he AC is not starting which has nothing to do with the furnace inducer motor. I think the diagnosis was not done fully/correctly and I am stuck with paying $135 which is steep for a problem that was not fully diagnosed. read more

My first person of contact was Nik. He was not the most pleasant person to deal with during my year of shopping for a heat pump system. He was short and condescending. Eventually, I ended up working with Tyler who was so much friendlier and easier to deal with. At the end of the day, I ended up going with a different company. I don't like bashing other companies, but we did NOT have a good experience with M&C Heating and Cooling - I don't like writing negative reviews (especially now that so many small business are impacted by the covid situation - also, there's a possibility our experience was a one-off) but, long story short, we had a new AC unit installed by M&C in 2018 and we've already had to replace the compressor once within a year and they failed to connect one of the vents and insects were entering our house, which was seriously something out of a nightmare. Anyway, my experience with Sandium has been the complete opposite. Martin showed up within the appointment time, and called to narrow the window, which was courteous and appreciated. Martin is personable, knowledgeable and honest. Our AC unit was blowing hot air and one of the fuses needed to be replaced and our system required a Hard Start. Martin also added refrigerant to our unit and explained that there may be a leak - surprise, surprise, M&C shoddy mcshoddywork! Anyway, our AC is working perfectly now, and the price was more than fair. We are so grateful to have found this company and I highly recommend them! read more

It was a 5-day process without heat in our house, which happened to be on the coldest week of the coldest winter in our area - terrible timing on my part. Many thanks to owner Mike Lee, whose professionalism, courtesy and good nature shone through the entire process. From making the estimate appointment, to the estimate meeting, to answering questions about the contract and more, to being there bright and early on the first day of the work and returning later to check up on it, Mike was calm, kind, and helpful. Many thanks also to both Oswaldo and Daniel, the skillful, friendly and considerate technicians. In addition to their installation and trouble-shooting skills, they also answered my ongoing questions, listened to me go on about my traumatized cat, and cleaned up meticulously. They truly know the meaning of high quality customer service. We have one of those 1959 homes in San Jose with the original furnace that still worked (motor replaced in 1985) but was very inefficient, and no AC. Our house also had the original aluminum duct work with asbestos. Hence, at the beginning of 2021 we thought it was time for an upgrade (lol), and through a neighbor's recommendation, we decided to call Sandium for a quote. Tyler came over and thoroughly looked at all the aspects of what we wanted, what was needed, and the process. We thought he was honest, clear, and came up with solutions that would best fit our needs and pocketbook. Tyler was also available via text, and sometimes coming over to answer any questions and concerns. After everything was ordered and scheduled, and after we hired a separate company to do the asbestos abatement, the work began. The crew of Oswaldo and Julio were always early, professional, and cleaned up each day. Oswaldo was great at answering questions and concerns, and they did excellent work. Each morning Oswaldo let us know what parts of the job they would do that day, and then went over things at the end of the day. They installed new efficient duct work, furnace, and AC. I had a A/C unit that stopped working during the latest heat wave and they were able to come out the next day and dishonors the problem was a faulty breaker in the main breaker box. Repair person went down to Home Depot to get a replacement (unfortunately they were out of the one I needed), but saw we could order one via Amazon. Said if I order it and text him when it arrives he will come back and instal it for me (which he did 2 days later). Sandium did an exception job -- from bid, thru install, to after-install support! I replaced my old inefficient/expensive/green-house-gas-emitting propane gas furnace and AC units with a contemporary, leading-edge, reliable heat-pump system. After running for several months now, I couldn't be more satisfied! I met with reps from three HVAC firms. While doing a thorough evaluation of my house's floorplan and ducting, Sandium's rep, Tyler Lewis, professionally communicated his knowledgable understanding of heat-pump systems and how they would likely perform in my house. In contrast, one firm's rep wasn't really familiar with heat pumps and both other bids were unnecessarily expensive (and would have been even higher using Sandium's components). I was a pleasantly surprised to see that Sandium offered the lowest and highest quality bid. Also, only Sandium noticed that my upstairs needed an extra return inlet vent (i.e., originally undersized). My existing plenums were in good shape, so they didn't need replacing. (This was born out in the post-installation HERS air-leak test, which passed with margin to spare.) For our two-story 3,000 sq-ft living space with high ceilings and my desire for a quiet external compressor/evaporator unit, Sandium spec'd a Mitsubishi CITY MULTI system comprising a single outdoor unit (PUMY: 5-ton, 66k Btu/hr, variable-speed fan, remarkably quiet!) with two indoor air handlers -- one upstairs in attic and one downstairs in garage (PVFY: 3-ton, 40k Btu/hr heating, so quiet you can hardly hear it). Tyler was quick to respond to my email questions and phone calls. I felt he was looking after my best interests, not just moving a deal. Even though a few work items were added post bid, the original quote remained in place. The installation -- replacing the two old interior gas HVAC units with the two spiffy interior air handlers and installing the clean-looking external unit with new flexible working-fluid distribution pipes -- was done Mon thru Fri (with heating disabled only one night). The crew was efficient, careful, friendly, and explained what they were doing. The system worked properly right from the start. For control, each PVFY unit wirelessly communicates with a Mitsubishi MHK1 remote controller on the wall where the previous wired thermostat was located. Tyler pointed me to Honeywell's Redlink Enabled Internet Gateway (THM6000R7001), so I'm able to control the system via the Internet (MyTotalConnectComfort site/app). He also pointed me to a local Mitsubishi equipment expert who identified the proper DIP switch positions in the PVFY air handler control board to disable the fan after the heating set-point is reached. Although the fan speed was extra slow, given the quietness of our house, I could still hear/feel the slight air breeze after heating period ended.). Tyler also hooked me up with a local plumber who did a great job installing a AO Smith heat-pump-based water heater in the garage, next to the downstairs air handler. It should be ~8x cheaper to operate than the propane heater. Given that I've signed up for San Jose's TotalGreen non-green-house-gas-emitting energy, my house will soon no longer be contributing to the emission of global-warming gases! (Replacing the gas dryer and range top with electric versions is next/last step.) And I expect heating operating costs to be 2-3x cheaper than the propane (at an exorbitant $5/gallon) HVAC. I highly and strongly recommend Sandium for professionally converting your house or business to a heat-pump based system! read more

We were researching the heat pump system for our new home. We came across Sandium Heating and Air as one of the highly rated companies that has experience with heat pump installations. Our rep, Tyler, was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain the difference between the heat pump system and a traditional furnace and AC unit. He was able to answer all of our questions and made note of information he didn't know. We decided to move forward with installing a heat pump system in our home and it turned out that the week that Tyler has planned on scheduling the project, the Mitsubishi City Mini, which we wanted, wasn't available! He then decided to upgrade our system from a 4 ton unit to a 5 ton unit at no additional cost. The crew that came to do the work was incredibly professional, knowledgable, and thorough. Sandium gave me a heat pump system (central air con and heat) in an old house that never had central air. They did a fantastic job! They designed the system, working around all the architectural challenges of my 100 year old home. They had to custom build vents to fit in odd spaces and route ducting through awkward gaps. They walked me through all the different options (repeatedly until I felt I understood them!) The work was done quickly, efficiently, and it looks good too. They didn't even leave a mess! Every one of the employees from the first consultation to the installers to the office staff were always on the ball and so kind and friendly. Even when I was a difficult client (And trust me, I was a big pain in their rear, because of other work I was having done simultaneously!) For many years, I could manage without any air-conditioning, but the record heat this year really made things unbearable. With the Covid virus, I wasn't even sure whether I could get any installation service during this difficult time. I reached out to two neighbors and both of them recommended Sandium. I contacted them and soon Mike Lee was assigned to my case. To support social distancing, I was offered the option of a Zoom meeting instead of an on-site visit. During the 30-minute video call, Mike managed to gather all the necessary information through my iPhone. A day after the call, a very detailed quotation was emailed to me with multiple options to choose from. With just one additional 15 minutes call, he clarified the pros and cons of the different options and helped me to determine the best choice. Not saying we were excited about this prospect but Sandium helped ease the pain of a new system. I found them through yelp and PG+E. From the moment I spoke to Tyler, I knew he was a cool guy. We scheduled an appointment and he was upfront and honest about all the alternatives. The best way to go was through a rebate program. The crew that worked on the project was nice and courteous. Chava was the manager and he was great. A real nice guy and a guy that was looking out for us at every turn. The only bummer thing was a rebate that was offered on our unit did not go through. I rarely leave reviews because I have high expectations and many companies fall short. I don't want to damage their reputation based on my expectations and experiences alone. But, in this rare case... If you want THE BEST, most knowledgeable HVAC company, Sandium is THE COMPANY for you. They're not cheap but if you want the highest quality, call Sandium. We had to rip and replace our new 2 year old, 4 ton, Lennox AC unit due to bad planning, design, and installation by another local company. They damaged our house during install, didn't fully honor their guarantees and we were forced to bring them to court. That still didn't stop the owner's dishonesty. Bigger is not always better when it comes to HVAC. The structure and layout of your house is significant especially in a two story home. Mini-split systems are not all wall mounted. They have ducted and ductless systems. You can mix and match according to your specific needs. Additionally, heat pumps are FAR MORE efficient than your traditional A/C condensers. Much of the world use heat pumps. With Mitsubishi it's not just on or off. Not just 2-stage. The technology is consistently modulating through a much wider range. Again, far more efficient. We no longer have a furnace. Each bedroom has its own Mitsubishi ceiling cassette unit that allows segregated personalized temperatures and our main living area is on a ducted Mitsubishi system. Did I mention they're very quiet as well! BTW: I interviewed and received bids from over a half dozen companies. Quite a few lacked the knowledge and skill set. They're going to recommend the basic traditional sq. ft. per ton AC condenser. They won't be versed in the latest technology. They won't care about your personal comfort level and how to reach it based on the layout of your home. I would also recommend watching YouTube videos from Matt Risinger as a resource. read more

Again, great service from Sandium! After getting our electrical panel replaced, I called Sandium to come and hook up the furnace and check the system. They called and shared arrival time, did covid protocols, checked the system to make sure all was proper. I asked them to install a new thermostat (since it was old, sputtering, and they were here). They installed it and made sure I was familiar with its operation. The charge for the visit, thermostat, and training was beyond reasonable. So again, they showed their commitment to honesty, knowledge, professionalism, and integrity to their craft. Most impressive!! read more

The short version: Sandium knows what they are doing. If you only have really simple problems, the other guys are probably sufficient. But if the problem is just a bit more complicated, the other guys will give up, but Sandium won't. Also, they are professional, on time. They left my house clean. And most importantly, they fixed my A/C. Now the long version: My A/C stopped cooling back in June. My neighbor recommended Sandium to me. They were fully booked till August. I booked early August appointment. Since it's so hot this year, I had 3 different highly rated companies by Yelp to take a look before Sandium appointment. One of them told me flat out that it was not worth their time to diagnose the problem, just get a new A/C. Second company said that there was a small leak, and it's not worth sealing. Just recharged the refrigerant and left. The third one tried to seal the line but won't get the unit to work. So they told me to get a new A/C as well. I emailed what the other guys told me to Nik at Sandium. Nik was so helpful. He did some diagnosis with me via email. He told me that I should have them take a look before replacing the unit since the unit is not that old at 12 years. I can tell that he has genuine interests in the solving problems, not just in this for the money. So I decided to wait another month for Sandium to take a look. When Sandium technician came, he quickly narrowed the problem down to TXV valve or a leak. He's the only technician among the 4 I called bothered to get into the attic to look at the coil. He presented the options to me. We decided to flush out the refrigerant and fill the line with Nitrogen and left a pressure gauge on the unit to see if there is truly a leak while they ordered a replacement TXV. Also he weighed the refrigrant he flushed out of the unit, and turns out the other technician overloaded the refrigerant. They didn't know that TXV can limit the amount of refrigerant in the system so they just assumed the system was leaking refrigerant. At this point, I was pretty confident with Sandium's diagnosis and a faulty TXV was the problem. 3 weeks later, the pressure held and there is obviously no leak. And Sandium technician came again and replaced the TXV. Now the unit is up and running like new. I'm also confident that there is no leak in my A/C. What a great job! read more

I was impressed with Mike Lee's expertise, and how he went beyond the others to examine all aspects of our HVAC needs and gave realistic assessments without overselling. His was also the lowest bid. It was just a week until Thanksgiving and we expected a cold house for our celebration, but Mike managed to squeeze us in the Monday before, and his crew finished the new furnace/AC installation in only one day. I had three other firms over to look at my Carrier heater& air conditioning problems. All three recommended replacement from $15-17 thousand!! I found Sandium through Carrier's web site. Martín came and looked at my heater and determined all I needed was a real dusting and cleaning to make the motor run correctly. He returned four days later and spent half a dap to clean years of dust and dirt from the blower and refrigerators refrigerant unit. He also installed an updated Nest. Bingo! Sandium does outstanding work. Jesus and his team installed new ducting throughout my house, including taking the ducting through the garage to provide heat into an add-on room with a flat roof and no crawl space. The team installed a Carrier Infinity Series two-stage furnace in the attic, freeing up the old furnace room for conversion into a large closet. They also installed a Carrier Performance Air Conditioner. All ducts were moved from the walls to the ceilings. The work required running a new gas line. It happened to be raining very hard during the installation but that didn't delay even the outside work. Faced with such a large project, I got quotes from 4 HVAC companies with high ratings. I didn't have confidence in any of the companies I spoke with until I met Michael Lee. He spent a great deal of time with me, explaining everything in detail and outlining several options in his proposal. He was very thorough both in our conversations and the follow up proposal. Everyone I met at Sandium was very professional and a pleasure to work with. Although it was a large project, all work was done with the highest quality and on schedule. We needed to replace our 1971 furnace, so we reached out to several local companies for bids. Tyler was our main contact, and he was thorough, professional, and a great communicator all the way through. Sandium's bid was also the lowest, which was surprising to me -- I thought they would be too expensive after seeing all of these 5 star reviews. Jaime, Jose and Alex were the crew that did the install of our new furnance, vents and all new duct work. It was a 3-day job and they were always on time and explained everything to me in great detail. If they had a question about anything, they always asked me before doing the work.
