Update:
I heard back from the manager, and he has provided additional accessibility information, the promise of looking into the other issues, and offered to comp a night and cover a meal at their Steakhouse. While we are not accepting the latter (I think a GF vegetarian at an Asian Steakhouse is a recipe for disaster), I appreciate the responsiveness and have increased the review by one star.

So disappointed. Based on our experience with other Hyatts and especially Hyatt Regencies, we decided to come to Chicago for the Thanksgiving break. We made sure the main restaurant had something I could safely eat (am vegetarian and have Celiac disease, so am also GF), and paid extra for the Regency Club, so we could get drinks and snacks while here. Then, the week before, called to make restaurant reservations for Thanksgiving. They told me there was a Thanksgiving buffet, but when I explained about my allergies, they said the whole menu would be available.
Fast forward to us coming in. At check in, they didn't give us a regency club floor, but told me that was because I asked for foam pillows. Then he made a big deal about giving me two free water bottle vouchers, usually "only" for World of Hyatt members...of which I am one. Then when I asked about the club (that I had already paid for), he give me the Club 101. When I pointed out I had already paid for access, he made a big deal out of giving me a key to it, like it was a big favor he was doing us.
We check into our room. There is a big wet spot in the middle of the floor, weird white stains on the curtains, the shade of the lamp is damaged on my side, and the toilet paper holder keeps crashing to the floor. We go up to the Regency Club. Not only are we too early for evening snacks (because the gentleman at check in also didn't give us any info about when things were), but the milk on my tea curdles into a glob. Food isn't labeled like it is at all the other Hyatts we have been to, so I can't safely eat anything.
7:25, we roll up for our 7:30 dinner reservations. Takes 10 minutes to be sat, another 5 to get the regular menu for me...but it isn't the regular menu: it is a special abbreviated menu without the GF vegetarian option. The server argues with me, but finally tells me the kitchen will make it for me, while my partner opts for the almost $40 buffet. As he is eating his first plate (now 7:55, my food isn't out yet) the server tells him to get anything else he wants, as they are closing the buffet in 5 minutes. Who the heck seats people at a $40 buffet without telling them they are closing it in 20 minutes? He gets a bunch of plates (as they are putting put fresh dishes, so you know that food is going to be wasted), and then they shut the doors to the buffet area. Sadly, the stuffing tastes like stove top and everything is flavorless, as is my eggplant. After waiting almost half an hour to get a check, we leave.
The next morning, I tell a manager. We are paying close to $300/ night, and I expect better. He apologies. Ok. We adventure in the city, hoping for a better experience. Food at regency club is still not labeled, but I avoid the milk in case it is still bad and am fine. After dinner, we look forward to going to Big Bar, the world's biggest bar! Except it is only accessible by stairs and I am disabled. No ADA access? Seriously? So we walk back to the Living Room bar. It is 10:15, they are open till 11 pm...but as we sit down, they tell us they already have had last call, to go to the Big Bar. I explain that is literally physically impossible for me, and they agree to let us have ONE drink. However, the majority of their non whiskey/bourbon drinks are unavailable (and I cannot have Whiskey or Bourbon, as they contain gluten). I ask for the sweetest, most frou frou drink without whiskey/bourbon that they have. I am served a 3/4 full glass of mostly tequila and limes, and am charged $14 for the privilege.
The people are nice, which is why there are 2 stars. However, they are also either inept, or totally do not care. I am not sure which. Given that we built our vacation around the hotel being accessible and a place where I could safely eat/drink, it is safe to say this has ruined our trip. Everyone I speak to says they hope we come back so they can make it up to us, but I would much rather theu just make our experience one that is even just neutral while we are here. read more
