Burger and side tater tots from Market
    Marcus C.

My wife and I stayed at Hyatt Regency Long Beach since we were attending Midsummer Scream weekend at the Long Beach Convention Center. Checking in was a breeze in-person but you can also do it via mobile if you're in a hurry or don't want to wait. There's a private hotel parking garage and valet parking so you have a choice in how bougie you want to be (both will cost you). We self-parked but honestly didn't even go back to the car until it was time to leave - this hotel is quite centrally located and walkable to everything you could want in downtown Long Beach! We got a king bed with a city waterfront view. The room itself was clean for the most part but there were stains on the bed sheets, bathroom walls and towels. Wee bit gross, but compared to some other horrific places we've stayed at, it's still passable. The bathroom has some really weak water pressure, so get comfy and be prepared to really take your time taking a shower to get all the soap/shampoo out. The room comes with a small fridge and coffee maker but no microwave, so if you want to reheat/nuke anything you have to use the microwave next to the ice machine in the hallway. We were on the 8th floor and we quickly found out that the walls are really thin - you can hear your neighbors, people walking in the hallway, and anyone in the pool area quite clearly. The room came with double shades, which is great for keeping the light out. Unfortunately, they're also on the older side and require some effort to open/close them. We got a scare when our neighbor opened/closed their shades - it was so loud/creaky that it sounded like someone was trying to break into our window. There's a bar downstairs in the lobby along with a market/kitchen if you want to get your eats/drinks on. Plenty of tables around if you want to get out of your room for a bit. We ordered room service for breakfast and ordered in-person at the market for a late dinner. For breakfast, we had a breakfast burrito and huevo rancheros. For dinner, we had chicken tenders with side wedges and a burger with side tater tots. It's convenient if you don't want to worry about going out for food since they have a pretty decent menu (naturally all of the food/drinks are overpriced but that's a given with any hotel). The pool is open late which is great if you don't want to get sunburned during the day (there's no shade whatsoever in the pool or hot tub). If you go for a night swim, you also won't have to fight for cabanas as there are fewer people around. The hotel provides complementary towels once you get down there, so all you need is your room card to access as many towels as you need. The pool is heated though, so it's not as refreshing as you would think on those hot summer days. We saw a cockroach scurrying around the cabanas/poolside chairs when we got there so maybe play it safe and keep your shoes off the ground. Overall it's not the worst hotel we've stayed at but nowhere near any of the best. It's perfectly adequate/decent if you're going to the convention center, Queen Mary, Aquarium of the Pacific, etc. The lack of cleanliness, paper thin walls, and weak water pressure are turn-offs though. We only stayed here because it's literally steps away from the convention center.

Was in Long Beach for business meetings. The Hotel location is close to Shoreline Village with its restaurants and shops and most importantly for me a quick ride to the Catalina Express ferry. Everyone at the hotel were friendly and super helpful. There is a man made lake around the hotel and fun paddle swan boats if you have time to play a little. It is connected to the convention center and connects to an elevated walkway that runs from Shoreline Village to Ocean Blvd where many other hotels are located.

MagSafe charging stand with Apple Watch charger plus a white noise player

My husband and I came and stayed here for a night for a concert at F&B Amphitheatre, and it was a great stay! Upon arriving, I realized I forgot my contact solution and case, but they had a vending machine in the lobby that had the essentials. Of course it was $8 for a 3oz solution lol, but it was super convenient to have. We also bought two 12oz cans of Coors Light and 1 cutwater can from the lobby market which totaled $30. Just keep in mind this is a nice hotel, so high prices are to be expected. Anyway, the room was clean and beds were comfy, but what I really loved was that they had a MagSafe charging stand with Apple Watch charging along with many power outlets. Overnight self parking was about $50 which is standard for the location. The employees I spoke to were super nice, plenty of restaurants nearby. We'll definitely be coming back!

I was attending the Travel and Adventure Show next door at the Convention Center, as a Hyatt Globalist I had a choice between this or Hyatt Centric. I am so glad I chose this hotel. It is walkable to the convention center, downtown restaurants and the weekend market. The service was great. I got an upgrade to the Harbor Suite even though they were pretty busy. The room was spacious and clean. There was one plug that didn't with but there are plenty of plugs around. As a Globalist I had complimentary breakfast at the restaurant downstairs. There was one gentleman, I wish I remembered his name but he was so friendly and efficient. The bigger is one is the better breakfast buffets at a Hyatt Regency. I got late checkout which was another plus as I was about to come back after my convention was over. Parking was plenty in a gated 2 story garage. I felt safe in this area. The views are great. The man made pond in front of the lake made for a great jog in the morning. I will return!

Great hotel and staff! My partner and I booked a few nights for Apocalypse Fest and enjoyed our stay. PROS: - Walking distance to the Queen Mary (only 30 mins walk or 10 mins scooter) - Extremely spacious and clean bedrooms, soft pillows and thick bedding - Friendly and courteous staff, with ample security at late-night entry - Minor discounts on nearby businesses and restaurants - Water stations on every floor - Decent sound insulation, you can only hear anything when people are talking loudly right outside your door - Great view of the waterside area! CONS - No microwaves in rooms - Bathrooms were cramped af compared to the bedroom area...! - Mandatory $30 resort fee but this is sort of comped by offering $10 daily store credit and discounts mentioned above But the negatives are negligible. I would absolutely recommend staying here!

I wish I could give this hotel zero stars. I'm currently staying in room 238 at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, and this has been a very disappointing experience. The rooms are outdated, the carpets look old and dirty, and the overall condition of the hotel does not justify the prices they charge. Self-parking is $49 per day and valet parking is $55 per day, with no validation. That is an outrageous additional cost for a hotel that already feels overpriced. I have worked in tourism for many years and I currently own a travel agency, so I have stayed in and worked with many hotels over the years. I know what to expect from a property at this level, and especially from a Hyatt Regency. This hotel falls far below those expectations. For the price, it is simply not worth it. Outdated, overpriced, and disappointing. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it.

Usually, we have a really great experience and they give us her coupons, promotions, and everything this time didn't really do anything that didn't really explain anything. I don't know if the person working behind the counter was new. We have been coming to this hotel at least once or twice a year for the last 34 years and we have not gotten any points or promotions and discounts so I don't know what's going on. I mean we come here we love it here but let's just it was a different visit this time around the carpet was really dirty in the room.

We had a free night from our World of Hyatt membership, so we decided to visit one of our favorite places...Long Beach. We self parked which was easy and just a short walk to the hotel. Checkin was great with friendly staff and they were able to upgrade us to a Harbor view. Our stay also included a destination package and we got $10 to spend at the Market which was a nice surprise. The room was nice and clean. The tv was so big! And a refrigerator was also available to keep our drinks cold. We ate a quick breakfast buffet at the Tides downstairs. It was a simple breakfast, but it checked all of the boxes.

It is a very nice hotel, especially if you will be going to the convention center. It is less than a minute walk away. It made tournament days very easy for us. There is food and snacks available in the lobby and also the shopping outlet is across the street. You don't have to drive anywhere. I enjoyed the brightness of the room, all the windows and lighting. I liked that the bathroom was away from the room. The person checking us in was very nice. All around a great experience here. A few cons I wanted to note. The carpet had a lot of stains on it. Also, parking was $46/night which was crazy to me. Luckily we found another place to park and we just left our car there for the weekend, we didn't need it anyways.

I travel often and would definitely come back to this hotel. Everything was excellent from the moment my family drove up to the vallet parking area. We were immediately greeted by all staff and they were all very welcoming. The hotel has a great ambiance and is located perfectly for a visit at long beach. I also love all the perks this hotel has to offer such as having daily market credit, free movie, and free swan ride. My family and I will definitely be coming back since we also cruise frequently.

From check in to check out-we enjoyed our stay. Our room had a great view that overlooked the swan ride and a view of the port. The service from every person we encountered was just great. We were going on a cruise and drove and so glad that Godwill, our bell person, told me about the parking option at the hotel. Godwill was very helpful and so kind. We only stayed one evening, but enjoyed where this hotel is located and how nice the room was. We will definitely come back and stay here when we are in the area.

Overnight stay for a conference! Very clean & comfortable! Great location near lots of restaurants & entertainment. Great service & felt welcomed at check in by Maria! All the food was fresh & delicious! Started w a build your own salad bar with tasty salmon, tender chicken & yummy tofu along with flavorful toppings including my favorite crunchy chickpeas! Dinner was fabulous! Grilled salmon, tender short rib, mashed potatoes & carrots & mushrooms! Dessert was so good! The rolls w butter were also perfectly delicious! Breakfast included fluffy scrambled eggs, short ribs w potatoes, fresh fruit, tasty muffins and chia pudding! Staff was always attentive & friendly! Loved the ocean view from my room! Room was spacious except for the tiny bathroom. The mirror had the brightest light that made it uncomfortable to look at myself while doing my hair & makeup. Very tight space! Valet parking staff was also professional & prompt. I'd definitely stay again!

Went for the Resort Pass Pool Day and it was fantastic! The pool was clean and our cabana was also clean and spacious. We also really enjoyed the drinks and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. We will 100% be back again at the Hyatt Regency.

I saw that someone got a parking pass, do we need to go to the front desk to get one?

sometimes if there is special event going on they do have discounted parking at hotel registration / checkin

    Is the swimming pool heated?

Hi Ana! Our pool is heated and open throughout the year.

    Are there balconies?

    No they don't

Do they serve food and drinks by the pool?

    No of course not.

Do you allow overnight parking for non-customers?

    No don't ever do that.

Do they have a shuttle to the queen mary?

They don’t have a shuttle to the beach, so I don’t think they’d have a shuttle to the Queen Mary. It’s not far.

I'm curious? So are there 2 different bedrooms in one suite or just one room with beds?

There two different kinds of rooms, all of the suites are on the 17th floor and the ready are just rooms with beds

We originally booked because the photos on the Bonvoy app made it look like the pool was on the rooftop, which was a big reason we chose this hotel. Unfortunately, that wasn't what we expected once we arrived. We also asked about upgrading to a two-bedroom suite when we checked in, but they didn't offer it to us even though we later saw that one was available. We mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday, but unfortunately there wasn't much the hotel could do. A few things to know before booking: * Ice: There is only an ice machine in the lobby. If you're staying on the 5th floor, you have to go back downstairs for ice. * Rooms/common areas: The carpets are pretty old and dingy and could definitely use an upgrade. There was also a noticeable old/smoky smell in the hallway. * Pool/whirlpool: The pool area is nothing particularly special, but we were lucky enough to basically have it to ourselves because the weather was cloudy, humid, and lightly sprinkling. We specifically booked this hotel so the kids could use the pool and we could use the whirlpool, so at least we got to enjoy it. I wouldn't choose this hotel specifically for the pool, though. * Breakfast: The breakfast was probably my biggest disappointment. There were quite a few gnats flying around the food and even around the tables while we were eating. The selection was on the smaller/basic side, but we did eat our fill since it was complimentary. I just wish there had been a little more attention to the gnats, as they took away from the overall breakfast experience. There are some definite positives about the location. There are a lot of restaurants within walking distance, so you have plenty of choices without having to drive. We took a nice walk last night across the bridge, caught the sunset, and had a view of the Queen Mary. We ended up choosing Chili's, but there were plenty of other options nearby, including Yard House, Hooters, Bubba Gump, and more. That was actually one of the nicer parts of our stay. Another positive was that, because of our status, they gave us a 4 PM late checkout, which was greatly appreciated since the regular checkout is noon. The location is also convenient for the Aquarium of the Pacific and for people catching a cruise near the Queen Mary. Because of that, I can understand why someone might choose this hotel for a quick overnight stay. Overall: If you need a convenient place to stay for one night or less, especially for the aquarium or a cruise, it may be perfectly fine. The location is convenient, there are lots of restaurants nearby, and we were able to make the most of our stay. But if you have a choice and are looking for a nicer hotel with better amenities, atmosphere, or breakfast, I would recommend considering an alternative hotel for a longer stay.

This property clearly needs some attention and maintenance. At this price point, I expected much better. Unfortunately, I won't be booking here again.

The balcony provided a nice space for reading and watching the city life below. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I initially booked a room with 2 queens and they fixed it no problem. The rooftop has a cool view of the city, especially at night. The hotel has ample parking - spaces under the building and directly next to it. One thing to keep in mind - if you are staying in downtown Long Beach, it's a big city with big city sights and sounds. You aren't staying in the country. Great experience for my wife and I.

The neighborhood is a typical downtown area and can be seedy but the hotel itself is secure with the main entrance by key card only at night and the elevators also require your key card to be operational. My room, a single king, was clean and in good shape. There is a large TV, desk area, adequate closet, and mini-fridge with Keurig machine in the room. The iron is of high quality and perfect for pressing my clothes for my meetings. The bathroom is very nice with a Toto Washlet that are common in Japan. The room's thermostat, however, is in Centigrade so do brush up on your metric system! My only real criticism was that the room safe did not open all the way as the closet door blocked its full opening. The top floor has a nice sitting area to relax and there is a quaint workout room and pool area. There is also a sauna which I did not use. Upon checking out, I had a nice conversation with Yogi, the owner, who told me a little about the place and how it was named. Overall, my stay at the Hotel Mai was a wonderful one and I would certainly go back the next time I need to stay in Long Beach!

We had heard concert parking was horrible and decided to make it easier. We booked the room over a month in advance and there was no warning given about on-site Queen Mary parking. A day or two before our trip, we received an email saying that there would be no on-site parking for hotel guests and we'd have to be shuttled to and fro an off-site location a little over a mile away. This was pretty irritating since the entire point of booking this and spending money on a hotel room was to make parking easier. We wrote back and expressed our discontent only to be met with a "sorry but it is what it is"...just more professionally worded. We got there to park and were able to get on a shuttle. Check in was fairly smooth although we were informed we could not control the AC and so if we needed a fan to call.As soon as we got there I called for a fan because it was 90 degrees and I knew I'd need one--the fan came quickly, but I don't like that you have zero AC control...that is a hotel room perk. The room itself was larger than you'd expect from a boat, and it didn't feel dirty, but it is is desperate need of upgrades. The walls were scuffed, the tile grout brown, toilets and sinks very outdated, etc. The bed itself was very firm, but sleepable and the pillows were fine. However, the walls, or maybe the door area was paper thin and we were woken up the next morning several times starting at 6:45AM with other guests who were so loud that it felt like they were in the bed next to us...and not in a sexy way. About 90 mins before the concert, we went to the Observation Bar for drinks and food. We were seated with the manager saying their "world class service would be with us shortly"...The service was horrendous and he and I are certainly not living in the same world if what we got is world class. She took forever and never checked on us. The drink options were limited, but when we finally got them, they were OK. I also ordered the baked brie that came out cold and the sliders were only OK. We never got to have another round of drinks because it took over an hour to get the first round of drinks and 2 food items. We finally had to get up and ask for the check so as not to be late to the concert and when they asked how everything was and we told them the truth, the manager essentially just looked at us and walked away. Super helpful! I saw many other servers scurrying around and looking helpful, so I think our waitress was just terrible...and living in her own little world...probably the same one the manager is living in. Later after we had left to the concert, my husband left the concert line to run back to the hotel and put stuff in the room that we bought and his key didn't work. So we had to wait for them to fix that which made him late getting back and we missed part of the early entry we had paid extra for. We called for a late checkout the next morning because we had the Royal Brunch booked for 11am (which is check out time) and we had all of our stuff, plus our concert stuff that we had planned on running out to the car, but couldn't do because they wouldn't let us park there. We were told they had no late checkouts left and to check it with the bell service. We went down at about 10:45 to drop off our stuff with the bell service and the line was ridiculously long and not moving whatsoever. There is no way we weren't going to miss our reservation if we waited in it, so we went to the brunch with all of our bags and asked if they could give us a table where we could lay out our posters, etc. A manager of some kind, Andy, overheard this and offered to lock up our items in a closet right there--he was truly one of the only helpful people in the Queen Mary. The brunch itself was delightful. The food and service were excellent and while I would never stay over at the Queen Mary again, I would certainly attend the brunch again if we could park onsite. Finally we went out to the front to get back on the shuttle in the blazing sun and the line was in the direct sunlight and there was no shuttle in site. I asked people who had been there how long they had been waiting and they said over 20 minutes. I'm sorry, that's unacceptable. You didn't give appropriate notice that we couldn't park onsite, the line is in the sun, and now people have to wait over 20 minutes in 90 degree heat to get back to our cars? I asked the person working the little podium where the shuttle was and he said they were coming every 15 minutes. I told him that was clearly untrue and he radioed them and one showed up about 6 minutes later. I would never stay here again. Too many things went wrong to waste the money. Stay somewhere else, and just eat at the royal brunch. Also, we were offered nothing but "free parking"...

Our room was absolutely filthy. There was dust and grime buildup on all of the ledges, stains, crumbs, hair, dust, along the bed frame and in the crevices of the chair. just no attention to detail at all. we did contact the owner and opted to leave and were provided a full refund, but the kind of build up that was in that room was either from a long term stay that wasn't cleaned up properly or just terrible cleaning over and over. side note: wifi signal was not good, bedding was bare minimum and no hand towels or face cloths provided. I'm not looking to trash the owners, I just don't want anyone to be in the same situation we were, having to look for another place last minute after a long day of traveling, I was almost in tears, plus I had to pay way more to stay somewhere else because there weren't a lot of options.

So rather than pay an astronomical fee for the privilege of proximity, I did a quick search of the area. There are plenty of options, but many of them just seemed suspect. The I came across the Varden. Definitely a boutique hotel, but definitely worth checking out. The rooms are typically small with barely room for a bed, a partial desk and a small bathroom area. But the room was extremely clean, the fixtures and bed were new and cool and for one person, really perfect. Particularly since other than sleeping and checking emails, what else do you really need? Well, for starters you need to feel safe. And this place does a great job of securing the facility at night, but you don't feel you're in a bad neighborhood anyway. You also might like to enjoy a welcoming attitude, and the staff and place has plenty of that. The young staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Being forewarned that the property has 3 levels and no elevator is important, but honestly, it's not a tough climb to floor 3. And as a testament at how great the staff are, they wouldn't take no, and they carried my bags to my 3rd floor room. Since I was there for meetings, I needed to press my clothes, so a call to the front desk resulted in a brand new Iron and Board appearing at my room within minutes. And being welcomed by a reception with snacks, wine and drinks between 5:00 - 7:00 everyday, is just super nice. They also do a continental breakfast from 6:00-9:00 daily. They have a hip space right behind the registration area for these treats so it's easy to walk through on your way in/out of the property. And best of all the price per night was less than 1/2 of what those big chain hotels were charging. And I was less than 4 blocks (and a very nice walk past lots of local stores/restaurants to give me a feel for the area) from the Convention Center. For all these reasons, if you're in Long Beach solo, I would highly recommend you check out the Varden.
