The solution has been to give us a much smaller car that didn't fit our needs, while still being charged for the size we originally booked. This past weekend we reserved another rental for Memorial Day and we finally received the right van this time but it was given to us in poor condition. The worker opened the door and saw how dirty it was and offered to vacuum but it barely made a difference. We even found a black widow on the outside of the car. Regarding gas, the tank was nearly empty when we drove off so we had to fill up on gas right away and wash the car and sanitize everything because of how filthy it was from the previous renters. I wouldn't recommend renting from here.

Enter Brooke. Despite clearly juggling multiple responsibilities at once--like some sort of customer service octopus--she took the initiative to approach me and ask if I needed assistance. No prompting, no dramatic sighing, no passive avoidance. Just... help. Immediate, efficient, and refreshingly (that's "human," for those less multilingual). She proceeded to handle my return seamlessly, closing out the order with the kind of competence that makes you briefly consider writing a thank-you email... or, in this case, a Yelp review. In a world where being ignored is often the default setting, Brooke chose excellence instead. Efficient, attentive, and proactive--three traits I wish were more widely installed in customer service representatives. 10/10. Would gladly be helped by Brooke again. Mind you, we called ahead of time to let them know we were coming. When we arrived, the car was pulled out in the driveway facing the sun and simply baking in 90 degree weather. We let the AC blast for ten minutes before taking it out on a decently long test drive. The AC never got cold. When I brought up this observation to my husband, the salesman Frank became agitated and defensive. "Well of course the air doesn't work, we're parked under the sun!" Right - got it. My husband pointed out a visible dent on the door. Frank was rude and annoyed with us. He threw his hands up in the air and said he'd be inside the dealership if we needed anything else. We didn't.

A propane leak forced me to shut off the system mid-trip, which meant no refrigeration for my sister-in-law's insulin and three unplanned nights in hotels. I thought that would have been the hard part but turns out that was the easier part of our trip. When my dad returned the vehicle, the woman working the counter refused to even look at the paperwork, told him "that's not my problem," when he described the issues and wouldn't give me her name. When he started taking photos of the RV to document the return, she ran out, shouted profanity, and shoved HIM, then called 911 and told the dispatcher he was intoxicated and threatening her. None of that was true. Two Downey PD officers responded, and did not cite, arrest, or asked him to leave. In fact, they asked if he wanted to file a charge of assault. I later learned she is the actual owner of this Xpress Auto Rental location, not just an employee, which makes the behavior even harder to excuse, since there's no manager above her to hold this accountable. My dad is in his 70s and it was really hard to witness this business owner screaming, pushing and falsely claiming untrue things. Cruise America corporate reviewed my complaint and refunded the full amount we were owed, which tells you they took this seriously. I waited to review until the complaint was settled but if you are considering renting here, know that this is who you'll be dealing with, and does someone like that really deserve your money.

The staff at the counter did their best to find an suv at a neighboring enterprise location and had it delivered in a timely manner. Additionally, they upgraded my car type due to the inconvenience. Both the staff and the desk and the staff in the parking lot releasing the vehicles were friendly and helpful.
