She completely ignored me as I stood waiting for several minutes, failing to offer a basic greeting, a smile, or any guidance on the check-in process. When I finally said "excuse me," she turned around and glared at me as if my presence were an inconvenience. Furthermore, her behavior was highly inconsistent and biased; she treated male customers with a completely different, much more welcoming attitude than female customers, and her demeanor only shifted to a pleasant tone when other employees walked into the room. Another lady who assisted me was helpful. However,, the vehicle I was assigned was in an appalling, unhygienic condition. The exterior was covered in scratches, the steering wheel was peeling, and the key card did not work properly. Most disturbingly, the interior had not been cleaned well; I found loose hair inside, and the entire cabin smelled strongly of vomit and the exterior was dripping water, they did not bothered to dry the car. .Between the hostile service and the completely unacceptable state of the car, this was an incredibly disappointing experience. I expect a much higher standard of professionalism and cleanliness from your company.

A propane leak forced me to shut off the system mid-trip, which meant no refrigeration for my sister-in-law's insulin and three unplanned nights in hotels. I thought that would have been the hard part but turns out that was the easier part of our trip. When my dad returned the vehicle, the woman working the counter refused to even look at the paperwork, told him "that's not my problem," when he described the issues and wouldn't give me her name. When he started taking photos of the RV to document the return, she ran out, shouted profanity, and shoved HIM, then called 911 and told the dispatcher he was intoxicated and threatening her. None of that was true. Two Downey PD officers responded, and did not cite, arrest, or asked him to leave. In fact, they asked if he wanted to file a charge of assault. I later learned she is the actual owner of this Xpress Auto Rental location, not just an employee, which makes the behavior even harder to excuse, since there's no manager above her to hold this accountable. My dad is in his 70s and it was really hard to witness this business owner screaming, pushing and falsely claiming untrue things. Cruise America corporate reviewed my complaint and refunded the full amount we were owed, which tells you they took this seriously. I waited to review until the complaint was settled but if you are considering renting here, know that this is who you'll be dealing with, and does someone like that really deserve your money.

The scene was, in technical terms, absolute pandemonium. Customers everywhere, tasks piling up, and one employee... holding a plate of food while promising to "get back to me shortly," which is never a reassuring phrase when you're trying to return a vehicle. Enter Brooke. Despite clearly juggling multiple responsibilities at once--like some sort of customer service octopus--she took the initiative to approach me and ask if I needed assistance. No prompting, no dramatic sighing, no passive avoidance. Just... help. Immediate, efficient, and refreshingly (that's "human," for those less multilingual). She proceeded to handle my return seamlessly, closing out the order with the kind of competence that makes you briefly consider writing a thank-you email... or, in this case, a Yelp review. In a world where being ignored is often the default setting, Brooke chose excellence instead.
