After hearing great reviews for Hyderabadi Zaiqa, I had to try it out myself! First off, the restaurant is quaint, no real frills. This likely helps maintain reasonable prices for the area. They leave a pitcher of water at your table (which I always appreciate, avoids awkward waits for your server to refill). The food: overall quite good. Tried a few appetizers, entrees and garlic naan. The only dish that I wasn't a fan of was one of the labeled "must try" dishes on the men. Can't quite remember the name, but it was a ground lamb where the meat was ultimately ground into the dip-like dish. I would recommend for a more casual Indian dining experience when you want to get good food but not break the bank! Would give 3.5 stars if I could.

3 of us shared everything: Malai kofta: not a big fan of the veggies balls (only 4) but the creamy fenugreek sauce was delicious. They also come with rice. Chicken korma: a savory complex korma than the sweeter nuttier korma I like more (Sahib) but still very good and the chicken comes out so tender. Rice here too. Goat Dum Biryani: this was delicious too and tender meat as well. Be aware that there are bones. It also comes with a yogurt sauce to help with the spice but it wasn't really spicy. There is a CC charge of 3% and we did have to get our dishes mild due to a friend. I'd come back - table was open at 6:30pm on a Friday but there was a wait by the time we left. All this for $63 after tax and tip. Amazing. Want to come back.

Two years ago, I walked into the original NYC location of Hyderabadi Zaiqa, and loved everything about that little basement restaurant. This new Murray Hill location is a little more convenient for me to get to, similarly not much to look at (although it's above ground, and the ceilings are much higher), but the food is just as flavorful and that's basically everything that matters to me. There was a bit of a language barrier with our server, but I think he got our order right (except we didn't get a garlic naan we wanted). All I know is that he brought out dish after dish of excellent Indian cuisine. The Chicken Vepudu is still a must, you have to get a biryani (the HZ special is a good call), and from there just do you. If you must know, we got some chicken tikka masala because it's always a crowd pleaser, and it's as good a version as you'll ever have. The samosas are also top tier, and I'd recommend starting with some cauliflower. The Gobi 65 or the Gobi Manchurian...both incredible. I also love the Malabaar curry (we got fish this time, and it was banging). If you've got a group of people who are into Indian food, bring them here, order plenty of dishes, and enjoy an extremely fragrant, incredibly delicious lunch. Or dinner. Whatever you want.

We came to Hyderabadi Zaiqa with the recommendation of a friend who said this spot was her go-to for homestyle Indian food and it was fantastic! Great value and flavor! I loved the goat biryani which was well spiced and the goat off-the-bone tender. The butter chicken was also a table favorite and we even ordered a second plate after we were halfway done eating. I also loved the kadhi paneer and garlic naan. Best of all, they give you complimentary rice with the curries which is pretty rare nowadays. Will definitely be back when I'm craving comforting Indian food.

I absolutely loved it all. I'm super sensitive to spice and everything here was super tolerable which was a pleasant surprise. We started off with samosas which were crisped to perfection and had so much delicious filling. For entrees we tried a bunch - the chicken tikka and shrimp were standout. The sauces were so fragrant and flavorful. Of course dipping any and all sauces in garlic naan is a must, and this naan was pillowy perfection. Staff was extremely sweet and accommodating. We sat for a long lunch and no one rushed us out. They also let us bring in a few balloons and our own dessert for a celebration which was nice. A great pick for some really authentic and delicious eats.

Incredible food, beautiful space, kind service. Nothing but good to report from my first visit. Our group of 6 met here for a weekday lunch and got to try a little bit of so much from their menu. There was nothing we didn't love, and no dish went unfinished. Even after something was technically done, we were using our naan to scrape up what was left of the sauce, because it was truly that good. From the biryani to the malabar shrimp (my personal favorite of the day), I loved everything I tried. I am normally not a spicy fan, but nothing was too overpowering. End your meal with a chai like I did, and I think you will love this place as much as we all did.

From the dishes we shared, to the chai that completed our meal, I couldn't help but fall in love with this spot. The decor was beautiful, and the staff were incredible. We were a large group and they handled it very well. From how they spaced out the dishes, to how they kept check in on how full the water pitchers were and if we had everything we needed. We shared everything, from the garlic naan, the house special biryani, the chicken 65 (which we discussed we learned what is was from Good Hang with Amy Poehler's podcast episode with Anzi Ansari), and I believe we had the Apollo fish and so much more. Everything we had was amazing with the right amount of kick. We closed it out with a chai and I was perfectly full and so content. Interested in trying their other location. I'm sure it will be amazing as well!

I have now dined at both locations of Hyderabadi Zaiqa and can firmly declare that each meal is as good as the last. This Murray Hill location is more spacious than their basement one in midtown, making it that much better to kick back with their delicious bites. ' Hyderabad is known for being the second largest tech exporter, but also for biryani. My family is from India's neighbor, Burma, and we have our own version of biryani. But truth be told I don't think Burmese biryani can hold a candle to Indian biryani, especially not from Hyderabad. I've had the pleasure of having biryani made by friend's parents from Hyderabad and can say this one matches up in terms of flavor. I also love the Apollo fish, Malabar shrimp, and tikka masala. Each dish had me scraping every last drop of sauce with their fresh garlic naan. I love spicy food and most dishes had at least a mild kick to them, but even my spice sensitive friend didn't find the food overwhelmingly spicy. I have only been to both locations during weekday lunch where it wasn't too busy, so our food came out quickly and our large group would have been seated right away even without the reservation we made. I suspect they are much more crowded during dinner and on weekends, especially since they've received some buzzy press, from the likes of Eater and from our own mayor himself. The staff was so chill they even let us hang up some light decorations and bring in our own dessert to celebrate our friend's engagement without an extra charge. I always leave so satisfied and can't wait to return.

I hate to update a positive review to a one-star, but I leave my most recent visit to Hyderabadi Zaiqa deeply offended by the rude behavior of the staff. My fiancee and I frequently stop here for a cup of chai after work. On our most recent visit, after paying (and leaving a generous tip), one of the waiters chased us out for a block and a half to ask if we had paid. I'm unclear why he couldn't confirm with his colleague before insulting us in this manner, especially when we are regular repeat customers. Needless to say, in logon ne hamari bari beizzati ki, and we will not be returning.

I was really excited to come after hearing zohran dropping this as a restaurant recommendation. My friend and I got here at 7pm and the space is small and intimate. We ended up sharing a table with another two top which made the experience cozy. We got the chicken dum biryani, garlic naan, aloo gobi, and I also got the mango lassi. Overall the food was good. I thought the biryani was gonna be a touch spicier especially because they gave us raita. It was flavorful but maybe the spice level is more geared towards a western taste.

    Chicken Rogan Josh
    Vy T.

I'd say the rating is closer to 4.5/5 stars. I got the chicken rogan josh, and I've gotten say it's one of the best rogan josh I've had anywhere. The flavors were great and nicely balanced. The only feedback I had was some chicken pieces had a strong chicken taste that not even the flavors can mask, but I think this is a me issue and I'm in the minority. I tried some of my friend's hyderabadi chicken biryani, and it was so good! Even looking at it, every grain of rice is coated with flavor. I also tried the halim, and it was more mild and bland than I expected. I'd probably get it and use it as a supplement / topping to a biryani.

Staying in Murray (Curry) Hill for the week so we figured we'd try some Indian food. With a wealth of options it was hard to narrow it down to one place but we chose ZaiqA, and damn are we glad we did. The interior is bright and well-appointed, and even at 9pm the place was busy! We were sat immediately and brought a pitcher of water. We ordered four dishes and some garlic and regular naan. Naan - light and crispy. Very, very good. Butter chicken - flavorful and full of Chicken. Chicken Tikka Masala - probably the best I've tasted. Creamy and packed with flavor. Chicken Chettinad- fantastic flavor. Dum Ka Murgh - I ordered this extra spicy and they delivered. Full of delicious coconut milk and green chili flavor.

Heard about how great the biryani is from the original Hell's Kitchen location so was excited to see the expansion into Midtown East. This particular location is a huge upgrade with 2 floors and more traditional tables and seating (versus stools in HK). Place is spacious, clean, service was quick. Ordered two biryanis - one with lamb and another with chicken. Both also came with a yogurt sauce. Meat was tender and rice was cooked to perfection. Loved how there were fried onions/shallots on top of the rice. Portions were quite generous and very shareable. Looking forward to trying more on their extensive menu!

However, we never really got to it, having been busy exploring the Semmas and Bungalows of the city. On a cold Saturday evening my partner and I decided to give Indian Accent a shot - got rather last minute reservations over the phone. They were kind enough to accommodate us for a 7 pm slot, and once we got there we were seated immediately. We chose the four course menu, and found each course to be better than the one before! The shorba (soup) and garlic kulcha amuse bouche was a nice touch to get things started - loved the tiny terracotta mugs. Proceeded onto the shakarkandi chaat and the chilly pork roti - the former reminding me of the delectable street food in Delhi winters with the latter being a very good Indian rif on birria tacos. The star of the show for me was the Tofu medu vada - so unique and flavorful and melt in the mouth! I've not had anything quite like it before. My partner had the wagyu kebab that he said was excellent! For mains we had the chicken malai and the paneer - both tasty, but by this point we were already so full, and had to get most of the mains to go. But because there's always room for dessert, for our final course we scarfed down doda barfi with ice-cream and sticky toffee banana pudding - both of which were finger licking delish! Our service was great too - Ty our server was so nice and had the best recommendations. I'd have never gone for the tofu medu vada among all the other options and he urged me to, and it really turned out to be the highlight of my meal. The cocktails were good too. All in all, I think this is such a nice upscale Indian dining spot for a night out in the city. Having tried most of the other trending newer spots, i think Indian Accent sits right among the top! I'd highly recommend and cannot wait to be back!

Surprisingly quiet for a Saturday. $46 for a 2-course brunch is a great deal for an elevated meal, especially since the two courses come with a side ("accompaniment"). Quick heads up if you've been to the original in New Delhi, while they share a name, the New York experience pales in comparison. New Delhi is a full tasting menu with bold, unique flavors and presentation. New York is much more westernized, a fusion fit for the American palate. Service was consistent throughout, though not the most helpful when it came to menu questions - don't expect much guidance if you're trying to decide between dishes. They start you off with a tiny mug of pumpkin soup, creamy and delicious. The burrata comes as a big ball of cheese with crispy lotus root for scooping. The dal with naan as your accompaniment is a generous portion and the dal is beautifully flavored. The tawa paneer has a lovely presentation but the flavor didn't stand out. Coorg black pork was moist and paired perfectly with the cracklings. Best part of the meal was the Truman Bazaar cocktail - Truman vodka, suze, and tomato foam. Sweet, bitter, and spicy all at once - a genuinely unique combination.

So Annapurna Bhavan had my curiosity before I even walked in. The ambience was good. They don't take reservations, but we were seated as soon as we walked in. Sadly, the food didn't quite deliver. THE GOOD The dosas were well-made and honestly the highlight of the meal. Crispy, properly thin, no complaints there. THE NOT-SO-GOOD Ordered a Rose Milk. Got a rose lassi. These are two completely different things -- rose milk is a light, chilled milk drink; lassi is a yogurt-based beverage. Not a small mix-up if you know South Indian cuisine. The dahi vada was a letdown. It hadn't been soaked in yogurt nearly long enough -- the vadas were still firm, which defeats the whole purpose of the dish. Authentic dahi vada should be pillowy soft. A lot of the menu leans heavily Americanized. The oothappam topped with cheese and jalapeño is a prime example -- it's more Tex-Mex than Tamil Nadu. Fusion is fine, but don't call it traditional. BOTTOM LINE If you're in the neighborhood and craving something South Indian-adjacent, it's convenient and the dosas will do the job. But if you're someone who grew up eating this food and wants the real thing -- you'll probably leave a little disappointed. The location is great; the authenticity needs work.

She's the kind of host who remembers how you like your chai and makes the whole room feel like her living room. Now, the food. The Chana Masala is deeply spiced, rich with tomato and chickpeas, the kind of dish that makes you question every mediocre version you've had before.
