I had, literally, the worst bowl of bean soup and the worst piece of cornbread I ever ate in a restaurant. Hands down, no question. Maybe the fried chicken is good or the burger is juicy and delicious but if you can't get the fundamentals of comfort food right, give it up! Also, 5 (small) onion rings for $3; seriously? My friend and I were in need of some good old fashioned home cooking, the other day, so we came here. We were so glad we did! Our server was the most perfect angel, and I wish I could remember her name! My friend got the fried chicken, and loved it. I got the goetta omelette, and loved it. Our sides were good, too, though our favorite was the roll and biscuit we got, respectively. They were both hot and fresh out the oven, and warmed our souls! Okay, now: if you come here you have to save room for dessert!! They are known for their pies, so I had to try some. I got a piece of coconut cream, and it was perfect. My personal test of a great place for breakfast is if they get my eggs right. No gooey, right, half-cooked or poached mess for me. Scrambled WELL DONE all the way, baby! They knocked it out of the park, as if they scrambled them, looked at them with a critical eye, and then scrambled them again giving 3 dimensional well-doneness not just leaving them on for a little longer so I get one side near burnt face up while soft slightly runny egg whites lurk beneath. The food was decent not the best breakfast I've had. But the service was superior. Neve had an empty cup of coffee. My waitress was happy informative and just overall a great server. A friend and I attended an event at the Butler County Fairgrounds and when asking where we could go to get a good meal - we were told, hands down, to go to Hyde's Restaurant. So, less than 5 minutes from the fairgrounds, we found a little hole in the wall "diner" that we were unsure to even enter. But, we heard they had the best pie in town- so we were motivated to try. There isn't anything fancy about this place. It's a place stuff in the past but is clean and welcoming. The staff is friendly and helpful and seem to genuinely like each other- making for a great environment. I ordered the mixed berry cobbler and my friend the cherry pie. Each came to the table warm, gooey and was utterly delicious. Many restaurants cut corners and have a lot of crust and no filing, but Hyde's pies only bring the greatest in quality and quantity. It was delicious. As we waited for our pies, we paid attention to the other dishes that were being served- chicken pot pie, beef and noodles, mac & cheese, soups, salads, fried chicken. Heart healthy? Probably not. Comfort food? Yes. The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was comfortable and quiet. Televisions were visible but not the focal point. I can't wait to go back to try something else. Even if it is about 45 minutes from my house, it'll be a great "half-way" destination for a Sunday drive. ** Try to park on the side of the building and NOT on S. Erie Hwy. This is a down home restaurant. Nothing fancy! But the food is great, depending on what you like. The pies are to die for...they are known for their home baked pies. I have ordered there roast beef and potatoe dish. I usually stay away from that in restaurants because they are not usually to my taste. Here, it was very good. The fried chicken is cooked, sometimes while you wait, depending on what available when you are there. It is also top notch. Homecooked meal says it all. It's tasty, and nostalgic but a grilled cheese that is one slice of cheese on some very thin slices of white bread shouldn't cost more that $1-1.50. Had to ask a different server for a coffee refill and the breakfast special only had 7 French fries and they were not cooked anywhere close to crispy or well done! Extremely disappointing! I've driven by this place hundreds of times but never stopped until my neighbor told me about their wonderful homemade pies. I went with my kids on a Thursday night & the place was packed so I knew right away this was going to be good. I ordered the special for $10.99 which included cabbage rolls, 2 sides, cornbread, soft drink & a slice of pie...what a deal! The cabbage rolls were good, the sides & cornbread were average but the pie was amazing! We each ordered a different pie so we could sample them (peanut butter, banana cream, strawberry rhubarb & a warm, gooey brownie with pecans. They were all delicious but my favorite was the strawberry rhubarb. My daughter had the salmon dinner which came with 2 sides & cornbread & said it was delicious. I don't know anywhere else in town you can get salmon for under $10! In fact, their entire menu is under $10 except the porterhouse steak which is about $14 & includes 2 sides & bread. The sweet tea was very good, but the pie...THAT STRAWBERRY-RHUBARB PIE...was absolutely delicious and reminded me of my grandmas scratch pie recipe. I've only ever eaten breakfast there, so I can't comment about anything else. Get a couple of sides of gravy and slather it on. This place is all about downhome cooking, straight up. It looks like a total dump from the outside, complete with greasy looking windows. The place is actually pretty dumpy, but the food... oh man... you cannot go wrong with some "stick to your ribs" diner breakfast grub. For no other reason, people watching makes it great. I had a friend in from out of town recently and I decided to take her to a Hamilton staple. Hyde's has been around for as long as I can remember, and I honestly thought I hadn't ever been until a conversation with my mom. She reminded me that I had gone as a child with her and my grandma many years ago. When we walked in, we were definitely some of the younger folks in there, but it felt like home nonetheless. It's a divey diner type of atmosphere. If you are regular here all the servers start to treat you like family as was evidenced by a man sitting next to us. Our server told us how she had worried when she hadn't seen him for a few days, and now she asks him to call the restaurant and give them a heads up if he won't be in that day. The wall is covered with locals and regulars with notes and stories next to their smiling photos. It just feels so inviting. I ordered the goetta grilled cheese, with the potato soup. The sandwich was a great form of comfort food, and I will definitely get it again. The potato soup was honestly pretty bland and watery, and that I would definitely not get again. The others ordered the chicken and dumplings and the biscuits and gravy, and they were happy with their orders as well. This place has been around for years. If you are looking for true comfort food this is Where you will find it. All of the waitresses were very friendly and attentive. A large selection of items on the menu. Some marked as favorites and others marked as healthy. I didn't order any but I understand the pie is the reason people go here. Well I'm sure they go for the food too because everybody had full plates. But when my friends found out I went there for lunch they asked "what pie did you order." I was so stuffed from my roast beef hotshot lunch that I didn't even order pie. In hindsight I wish I would've ordered some to go. I arrived after the lunch crowd and the restaurant was still a third full. I could tell by the patrons that there's a lot of regular people that visit this place. My parents, aunts, and uncles all from this area and they all ate here frequently before everybody moved away. They were all a little jealous last week when I told them where I had lunch. read more

Really fun atmosphere, cute little diner that you can tell is popular with the locals. Everyone's very friendly! I got breakfast and everything was great, including the perfectly made, no runny white in my over medium eggs, and the lots of butter on one side of the toast like it should be. My wife and I stopped in 09/20/20 for breakfast. For us it was disappointing, the food was room temp and bland. We will not be going back.

I am only writing about their Lemon Meringue pie. Nothing else. They use to have the best homemade Lemon Meringue around. NO MORE. I have not gotten one there for 15 years. But went today. The Lemon now, is the same junk Golden Corral uses. It comes in a big bag. They cut one corner and squeeze it into a pie shell. So, I wasted my time, gas and $15.
