This is a real small town diner - tucked in between auto shops on a busy road - we almost missed it. On one hand it's nothing special... but a good diner has sort of become a rare thing, so it actually is kind of special. Inside, the place was pleasantly busy, lots of people dining but we found a booth right away. The menu has all the expected diner fare - breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, and a pretty good selection of dinner entrées and daily specials. I got the soup beans and ham. Mom got the beef and noodles. Both were just simple comfort food - exactly what you expect. We came to try the pie and we were not disappointed. Tried the lemon and the banana cream - so good!! The crust is perfection. The fillings are rich and the meringue is massive! Service was friendly and attentive - they were chatting up all the regulars and keeping things moving. We went to Hydes after hearing from several friends that it was really good. I had the turkey platter. The turkey was juicy & delicious. The gravy was obviously homemade, SUPER yummy! A Hamilton institution. Why I have no idea. The best thing they have is the homemade pie, and it's great. Chicken dinners are small and overpriced. The other items on the menu are decent, but one review mentioned the onion rings as being great. Sorry I can't agree on that, nor are the burgers anything special. I love Hyde's and whenever I have an overnight in Hamilton visiting friends/family, I typically wake up and crave it. All I can review is the breakfast, but I'll be back again and again. Service is friendly and attentive and the food is always consistent.....most importantly my eggs are cooked to "over medium" perfection every time. I've heard the place has had a remodel at some point not too long ago, but there's nothing new and shiny about it (nor dirty!) . I very much enjoy the quaint diner atmosphere. Aside from Millville Restaurant (which is about equal in my opinion), this is my favorite breakfast spot in the Hamilton area. read more

Just one of those places where folks are folks. It could be 1950 in there, and some of the utensils are at least that old. The perfect "dive," but in a good way. In the feel-good, homey-diner way. Eggs and sausage, coffee and pie. You know what I mean ... Sometimes it's just nice not to eat in yet another prefab chain restaurant with "flair," and for this you're willing to accept that not everything is going to be perfect. So about two weeks ago, I got Sunday brunch with my sister at a place she had told me about less than 10 minutes away from us in Hamilton. It was definitely hidden and older, with limited parking so I was not sure what to expect. The inside was built in the style of an old diner, decorated with rustic signs with witty quotes on them and other cute accents. The restaurant was pretty full, so I knew it had to be good! The menu had all your basic breakfast essentials including goetta, which is my favorite breakfast meat. I got a breakfast sampler of eggs, bacon, goetta, hashbrowns, and toast. Their house coffee that they're known for was very good, so I was able to drink it black. For dessert, we chose the blackberry cobbler.. which was absolutely yummy! The only thing I would change is to add more of the crust, but the filling was good enough to eat plain! I would definitely recommend coming here if you enjoy little old mom&pop places and trying one of their homemade pies is a MUST! read more

I was so surprised by this place! It's a tiny little diner with AMAZING homemade pies. I came for lunch, but their breakfast looks fantastic. I ordered a fish sandwich and fries. The fries were very good and came out nice and hot. The fish was your standard cod filet on a bun, but it tasted fine. The pie is the best part about this place. Comfort food is the best way to describe this place. A small mom and pop type restaurant that sits right off route 4. Parking lot is small, but the food is really good. Standard old school diner with an extensive menu of diner food done right and a great value for the money. The same family has owned and run this business since the mid-1940s. The from-scratch pan fried chicken is crispy and perfectly seasoned, and everyone should try the amazing spiral fries. Was in town after Whimmydiddle. My husband & I wanted breakfast before traveling. This place was awesome! Service was excellent. It was incredibly busy but I got the impression that was the norm. Food was delicious & everything tasted fresh out of my grandma's kitchen. I would've loved to try the pie but I was too full! Would love a place like this where I'm from. If/When I go to Hyde's, it is usually with my Dad to get breakfast, I don't know what it is about the breakfast, but it never disappoints. It is not the best breakfast food I've had, but when you go there it is delicious, and consistently delicious. I don't feel like you can take a larger family there (works best with a max party of four), best served as a breakfast or brunch eatery, and I should also point out, that I have never gone in there and it be quiet, it is busy, and there is a continous drone of sound, not enough to annoy, but not enough to not notice. We must have missed the hype about this place by not ordering the pie. All the sides seemed to have been microwaved including the corn bread sticks. Broccoli was so tough could barely cut it. Swiss steak was good. Wish we would have had pie so we could potentially rated higher. read more

Hydes is one of those restaurants that I've truly been going to my whole life. It's simple, quick & homemade. It might not be the most aesthetically pleasing restaurant but it's the real deal when It comes to "homestyle" food. The fried chicken is pretty good, takes a minute to prepare but worth it. The fried okra is a solid side & always turns out great. The banana cream pie is the go to dessert for me. It can get really busy and you might have a tough time finding a seat on a Sunday afternoon, so plan for that. read more

I've eaten lunch and dinner here for over 20 years with family. The food has a great home-cooked taste and will satiate any kind of appetite. Their roast beef special and banana cream pie have been a staple in my many visits to the place. We just left the Diner, I have never given a review, but this place is terrible. NOTHING is homemade, as the sign says. We were served canned yams, from yesterday. Frozen seafood and extruded fries. We at least thought the pie would be homemade, as everyone claims. No, the meringue was instant, the banana filling was canned, no bananas, and crust frozen!!
