This review is for the service department and Jorge Caldera. I recently bought a used Hyundai Ioniq and while I was driving down the freeway my check engine light came on. I went on their website to schedule an appointment which was easy. I dropped my vehicle off the night before and did the after hours drop box. I received a phone call from Jorge first thing the next morning. Like first thing in the morning which made me feel like they were ready to get going on it. I was almost due for an oil change so I brought my own oil and filter and left it on the passenger seat. Jorge read my back my concerns to make sure he had everything he needed. He made sure to pay attention to the small things like setting my tire pressure to what I want and that I did not want my car washed. He said he'll get going on it and call me later in the afternoon. So he called me that afternoon with an update. Oil change was done, the vehicle was due for one more fluid service, and told me what was going on with the check engine light. He told me he would have to keep it over night which was a bummer but I understood. He gave me information to a rental car place and said I could rent one and if it was a warranty issue, he could get it covered. If it was something like rodent damage I would be responsible. So I just left it for the night. Jorge called me the next day to tell me what was wrong. A connector was unplugged. The simplest thing. I had authorized a diagnostic charge when I first dropped it off in case it wasn't a warranty issue. So Jorge tells me what was wrong and I was a little irritated just that it was something so simple and it would cost me almost $150 plus the labor for oil change. So I ask Jorge what the total was and to my surprise he just tells me the price of the oil change. A connector coming unplugged isn't a warranty item, I've never been there before, Jorge didn't know if I would be a loyal customer. He's never met me. Yet because my car was still fairly new and it was simple, he didn't charge me. So that made me happy as a customer and made me feel like I can trust him and this dealer. I authorized the recommended fluid since I wasn't paying diagnostic anymore. Jorge got it done quick. They also sent a Lyft ride to pick me up from work and bring me to pick my car up. Jorge made sure he went over everything again and that I was satisfied. The service department was excellent. read more

My wife and I went to Escondido Hyundai just to look and do some research on the new Ioniq. Fast-forward an hour or two, and we are sitting in the office signing papers! Our salesman Johnny was amazing. He really listened to what we wanted and delivered. When discussing pricing he fought for us and got us the terms and price we wanted. Then we step into the financing office to complete the transaction. We thought we had it made with Johnny, and wasn't sure what to expect from the finance manager. Steve Engle was amazing! He explained everything to us. He was super knowledgeable and very friendly as well. He made the torturous event of signing papers fun! Instead of adding hidden fees (like I was expecting in the finance office) Steve was actually confirming we got the best deal possible. Bought my new car last weekend!!!!!! We had an awesome, easy-going, no stress experience. We worked with Mario, Michael, and George :) , but everyone was super helpful, knowledgeable, and straightforward. I think they might have new management? Anyways, they all seemed to work together as a team. I didn't feel any pressure and felt like we got the best deal. My 9 year old daughter was even there for 4 hours and never complained (probably because they have a nice waiting room and a hot chocolate/ coffee machine). Serje was my Concierge for both purchases and helped me through the entire process. He found exactly what I was looking for and worked an incredible deal. The second time around I knew it was time to call Serje again. We practically did the entire deal over the phone until I found what I was looking for. When he found my car, I came in to test drive and spent less than an hour in the dealership (which for me, is incredible because I LOATHE car dealerships). I was already driving the Genesis 4.6. They were advertising a 2015 with very low miles. Made an online inquiry and got a very quick response from Earnest Wood. He quickly sent me some additional photographs of the vehicle. I went down to see him the following day. I must say overall my experience was very good. I made appointment and they were waiting for me when I arrived. Ernie and the GSM are both very professional. We haggled a little bit on the trading of my car but they were fair. I went into to have a recall performed on my girlfriend's car and it is a crazy layout (former bank) it is confusing to know where to go. As i was finishing up with the paper work 2 of the service guys were talking and bragging to another guy that was dressed up that they had a bunch of friends fill out 5 star reviews on yelp and google. One guy said he was at 12 reviews already and then the dressed up guy said keep telling your friends to do more reviews mentioning their names that each one is worth $100 Bucks. I was blown away they were talking this open where I can hear everything. I asked the girl who the guy dressed up was and she said the "service manager Hector" (if i remember correct). Wow a business with such bad reviews pays their employees $100. To post bogus reviews on yelp and google. So i decided to check it out and found the same people posted on both sites with completely different reviews of what took place at the time they did the service but both reviews were posted the same day lol. I am happy yelp caught it and removed a lot of the bogus fake reviews any business that pays its employees to post fake reviews says a lot about the business customer service just look at all the real 1 star reviews lately. Obviously they want to increase their rating by being fake says alot about how it is being run. They had to order a part to finish the recall i won't be back. Ill try another dealer instead. read more

My wife was under the impression that since she bought the vehicle here that it had to be serviced here for the warranty to be honored. She complained about this place every time she got her vehicle back about the wait, unfriendly employees and the charges for the vehicles diagnostics to address a problem that had a recall or was clearly under warranty. Her car is making a clunking in the steering wheel which is the coupler that is under the warranty. I take her car in for her and they tell me they're gonna charge me 130 dollars for the diagnostic when they know what the problem is and how to fix it. Just four minutes in this place made me sick. Rude services representative with 3 employees standing around talking about vehicles that they had no clue what the problem was. I walked out made a phone call to the Hyundai dealership in North County and had an appointment set up the same day, a loaner vehicle (that Escondido Hyundai won't provide) and friendly staff that is not gonna charge me 130 dollars for an issue that they are familiar with. Absolutely AMAZING experience buying from Hyundai Escondido. My sister and I were helped by Jose Hernandez and could not have asked for anyone better! Jose is extremely friendly, personable, and does not act pushy, but genuinely wanted us to find a good fit in a new vehicle purchase. I don't normally review and specifically recommend a single individual, as I know that they aren't usually the only great employee there, but in this situation I would strongly suggest meeting him and working through him because he made the experience absolutely 10/10 and still periodically checks in to make sure we're doing alright and is a genuine person. We really appreciate being treated as a friend instead of just another number, and Jose couldn't be a more perfect and awesome salesperson all around. Aside from that, the other staff members were also very friendly and helped the process move along smoothly. This Edit is for their response on 11/27 We have not tried to get this resolved. I went to the dealership 11/25 and was told the GM was not in even though I called ahead to make sure he was and they told me he was. I am still awaiting word on how you will get this taken care of. Let us turn the car in early and it will be resolved, dont try to tack on more fees. Update on 11/30 changed to 4 stars for the new sale experience. Yesterday they were able to resolve my moms issue on 11/29. Finally after speaking to completely different people, they acknowledged their mistake. It was their issue from the beginning and they made right on it. No fees on the excessive mileage, no fees for some minor paint blemishes from wear and tear, no need for new tires and they took care of the 3 remaining payments that they had made the mistake on. Started a new 3 year lease and my mom was satisfied with her purchase. read more

Avoid at all costs! The other reviewers are spot on, this place is especially dishonest and slimy, even for a car dealership. It doesn't matter what deal they say they are going to give you, they will try to trick you into paying more in multiple ways and hoping you don't notice. After making me and my husband wait around in the deserted dealership for hours after negotiating a deal for no apparent reason other than to weaken us with hunger, the finance guy suddenly tried to rush through all of the paperwork to sneak things by (I say paperwork, but they try to obfuscate by shifting between computer screens and ipad screens and not giving you hard copies of anything). He switched the negotiated APR on me at the last minute hoping I wouldn't notice, and then tried to play it off like it was an honest mistake. After that was resolved, I insisted on doing my own math to check the final bill - lo and behold it didn't add up. I had to push for him to print out a complete bill, which revealed a completely bogus $2500 hidden "tire repair" insurance/fee never mentioned before. Of course finance guy tried to play this off as another 'misunderstanding'. Even if you think you caught all the tricks, it's not worth your time and energy or the lasting slimy feeling... read more

I have tried over and over again to give these guys a chance but I'm done. Went in yesterday to get an oil change and have a piece fixed on the bottom of the car and was pushed into services that I later found out were not needed. We spent a lot of money we didn't need to. Not only that, but after 2.5 hours, they didn't even fix the piece that I needed to have fix! I had to have someone come out and fix it right in front of me! Absolutely ridiculous. Went to make an appointment...took over 3 weeks to get one. Had the first appointment of the day (0700) and asked to get a call when they knew what was going on. Over 4 hours later, no call. Called 5 times only to go to voicemail each time. Finally, got to talk to "Hector" who I asked what was happening. He stated he didn't know and that the car was not even in the shop being looked at yet. I asked what was the purpose of an appointment if no one was going to look at it until late in the day. He responded that "if you don't have an appointment, you can't have maintenance done." At that time he stated ""you seem agitated and we will remove your car from the maintenance queue and you can go elsewhere. I told him I wanted them to continue but he stated that it was being pulled. They were totally disrespectful, acted as service to the customer was a favor to them vice the customer and have no regard for the fact the customer has need for his/her vehicle. The guys in the Service department are nothing but wonderful! Every time I have gone in they are always friendly, helpful and resourceful. I moved here about 8 months ago from the East Coast, purchased a new 2015 Hyundai Elantra (which I love), but know absolutely nothing about body shops in the area -- and it's definitely hard to find people you can trust. I stopped by today simply to ask if they could recommend a reliable auto body place that does good work (minor damage to my car, but it's new). In return, I had 3 guys come out and check my car. One of the guys even offered to help me get a better quote from another body shop by just being present. I really can't thank them enough. I would not hesitate to recommend them! read more

This was day two of looking for cars after one failed experience. We went in knowing what car we wanted and at what price. We walked in and someone came up to us, never introduced himself, just started asking what we were looking for. We informed the salesman of our price and he started Boasting they would beat the price they were the best in town... we sat down and he asked for my license, then he asked if that was my current address and how long I lived there (weird I thought, those are kinda like credit questions) then! He asked for my social! I said absolutely not. We had not even received a quote for the car! He said the only way his manager was going to know we were serious about buying is if he had that info.... never gave it to him, he went and got the manager. Again no introduction of who he was, just started getting more info. He left, came back with the pricing, he came back at the price we were looking for but racked on a sneaky $1300 service package. We asked him to remove it and we would take the car. He said he can't remove it, so we walked out. As we were getting to the car the original salesman followed us out, knocked on our window and said to give him 2 more min and more information aka my SS# we said no, and started to drive away as he stayed close to the car and insisted we give him a few more min. 5 min after leaving the manager called us and said he would take the service package off.... Excellent service for buying a 2015 Hyundai SanteFe GLS premium package from them. I'm a wounded warrior and was very taken care of. It is a perfect family car. Francisco Chavez was my sales guy and was very accommodating and worked very hard to get the color combination I wanted! ! ! Jeff Chadwick was my finance guy who also was open to negotiating and took quite a bit less for extending the warranty and threw in a 7 year interior/exterior warranty very cheap. Highly recommend Hyundai Escondido! Went to Hyundai Carlsbad and they spoke like they would help more than Escondido but never came close to Hyundai Escondido! ! ! Less than $35k OTD with 60 months financing at 1.88% for a 7 seater with a 10 year/100k miles complete car warranty. read more

I never received the information I asked for until I called them after visiting. I asked to do an appraisal and give me rough numbers so I know what to work with. I've never had this issue receiving this from other dealers or giving this out when I sold cars. Very hard to work with and not transparent. I went to Hyundai Of Escondido to buy a new Accent for my son. I had agreed on a price with the sales personnel (which was well below MSRP). I verified with them three times that the price I was quoted was the price I would pay, and the only additions would be tax and licensing. We waited almost four hours for the finance guy to become available (even though we were not financing, but paying cash for the car). When they put the sales agreement in front of me, I noticed that they had slipped in an additional $1400 charge for an alarm system that I neither wanted, nor was told about by the salesman... nor was mentioned ANYWHERE on the sticker. They clearly were counting on me not noticing the additional charge, as I am sure that the majority of people don't. When I told them that I was not paying for an alarm system that was NOT ever disclosed to me during the sales process, they actually tried to bargain the price of the alarm down to $400. They stated that the alarm system "comes from the factory" and that "they can't control that." For a moment, I actually thought I was speaking to the crooked car salesman played by William H. Macy in the movie "Fargo". I flatly refused to pay ANYTHING for an alarm system that I did not ask for... and I threatened to walk away if they did not remove the charge. After my protests, they removed the alarm system from the car, which only took about 10 minutes... the point being that any alarm system that can be removed in that quick period of time probably isn't worth $400, much less $1400. This is classic bait and switch... underhanded and dishonest sales tactics that they probably use quite frequently to cheat their customers out of their money. Many people who are less meticulous than I am, might not notice the additional charge. Believe me, they are counting on this! This last minute desperate, underhanded effort on their part to collect a little more money completely ruined the entire buying experience for me. This review would have been a single star, but I will give them one additional star because they did give me a good price to begin with. By the way, my son loves the car and so do I. It is a great first car for a teen driver. I highly recommend picking one up. Just get it somewhere else... and steer clear of Hyundai Of Escondido! read more
