I am a trucker and tonight my fiancé and I had dinner here. I ate here alone 2 weeks ago and the food was great and service was excellent. However, tonight we both had to send our meals back to be cooked more because it was nearly raw. And what's worse was the service. We had a young brunette girl who waited for us and she had an attitude from hell. No customer should be treated the way she treated us. We have been going to this diner for twenty years and have had a relatively decent experience as a whole, over the years we have had both good and bad meals here.... great and awful service... as you would expect being a local and first hand witnessing the ups and downs.... but the one thing consistently negative about this diner that has caused us to choose it less and less is the prices and today was the last time I plan on visiting for a long while if not forever.... stopped there after church for a quick lunch with my son... bowls of matzoh ball soup, toasted bagel, and side of fries. The side of fries were $8.95!!!! My fault for not looking but really??? I waited until I was at counter to pay bill and expressed my incredulity. Manager explained condescendingly about how things are different now... and in a nutshell a side of fries with a hamburger is $2.95 but as a side on its own was considered an appetizer and charge is higher. Very expansive menu. I've been here about 5 times as it is the halfway point of a long drive to visit family. The menu is endless and does include many NYC favorites. I had the open faced Rueben which was huge as I didn't put a dent in my fries. My son chose the classic burger which was a fantastic looking burger. My dad had the bowl of French Onion Soup. Monstrous portions which is great for the prices. Too many places will charge higher or seem inexpensive but the quality and quantity are lacking. 84 Diner always delivers the goods over my twenty years of going there. My current go-to diner (it's about 3 minutes from my home). I've actually been coming here for many years, and it's always been a good, reliable place for a meal. They do my usual diner preferences (burgers, fries, chicken fingers, corn beef sandwich, and breakfast) perfectly. Plus, the homemade cakes and pies are incredible. Ate here twice, once going east, 2nd time coming back west. Was fantastic food. 24 hours 7 Days a week. Had lunch items, breakfast items, and a sampler Greek plate. Had the burger. It was dry and unappetizing. I believe it was frozen. The server was very good. If they made their burgers fresh I am sure it be 100% better. The fries were fine nice and crisp. A great 24-hr, 50's style diner to stumble upon in upstate New York. Great atmosphere. We rolled in as a 6 piece gang around 2am and the waitress was very nice and the kitchen was very fast. I got the salmon eggs benedict which was very tasty. Nice hollandaise sauce. I can't remember what everyone else got, the night is a little blurry if you know what I mean. If you like the idea in atmosphere of old fashion style diners then this is a cool place. But for diner food and service this place is far from it. We asked to be seated near the window and the waitress seemed annoyed that we asked. Then the waitress who served us made us feel very rushed. She twice grabbed the menus from our hands while ordering before we could even finish our sentences. Very high strung. Gave us a lot of anxiety. Gave the impression that she had zero time for our table when the place was not even crowded. I actually do not like the 84 diner at all, But i know people who would disagree with me. I've been here quite a few times, and had so many bad experiences here involving the badly burnt coffee, bad waitresses, and less then mediocre food, I started going out of my way and paying the dollar toll to go to the Alexis diner for a late night meal. (The red line diner is open now, so I just go there.) But I plain and simply don't have anything good to say about this diner besides it is easy to get to. My friend and I had lunch today at the 84 diner. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Our server's name was Angela and she was one of the best servers I have had in a very long time. She was polite, friendly, attentive without being intrusive and made sure we had an incredibly enjoyable lunch. There's not much you can say about the 84 Diner that hasn't already been said. It's a diner, a straight up diner with a straight up menu. I like me some burgers and fries and I'm never disappointed. Personally, it's saved me from a few nights of getting a quick and easy meal. I've always had great service every time I go. If you want to take dessert to go, get the carrot cake. For my birthday, I made a pit stop (before a snow storm came) and got me just a slice of the cake to go. I had it later that night and it was still very moist. Thumbs up 84! read more

This place was great! The whole experience was right on!. Great environment and atmosphere. The place is very nice with shiny decor and the Wife says the ladies bathroom was very clean. We had the sampler plate - bacon, eggs, sausages, french toast and a pancake. The food was nicely plated and tasted just as good. I will be back there! Love this diner! Very reasonably priced for such a convenient spot off of I-84! They have buffalo burgers which are delicious and allow me to indulge in a burger without all the guilt. Fries are always hot and cripsy and you can tell their oli is clean based on the color of the fries! Service is always excellent and polite. Nice portions, even the cole slaw comes in abundance which usually never happens! They lose a star for charging $1.50 for adding cheese to the meatball grinder without telling youu so. When I ordered it the last visit, she asked if I wanted cheese on it and I said yes....no mention that there would be an additional charge for cheese on a meatball grinder?????????? I HATE when restaurants assume you know there will be additional charges for certain items, even if it is written somewhere on the menu, probably in fine print at the bottom. Until the menu says: "Meatball Grinder....NO CHEESE ( add cheese for $1.50 more )", I will expect the waitress to "remind" me there will be an upcharge. read more

My family and I have been regulars of this dinner for years. My late Aunt Diana, loved it! She even knew the owners, Tony and his sons and they always made her, my mother, friends, family and relatives that came with her there to eat feel at home. I even had my baby shower there! The food is good, some dishes better than other of course--I think their burgers are the best as well as their reubens! The matzo ball soup is fantastic. Their milkshakes rock...The cheesecake is unbelievable. They also have great breakfast served at any time of the day! Well I have been to this diner i would say a total of 5 times with friends who live in Fishkill and Beacon and i have only had one good meal and it was a dessert and it wasn't even the best waffle with ice i have had. The last time I went there I had a chicken Caesar wrap and It made me sick first off every other diner i have every had this wrap at have put it in a press to help keep together here they do not do that and what a mistake that is. It was poorly wrapped together fell apart as soon as i picked it up there was barley any lettuce in it and what was in was old a turning brown. The chicken tasted like it wasn't fully cooked and was in little medium size chucks that you would find mixed in with pasta not in a wrap every other wrap i have add had nice long trips of chicken so they fit nice inside the wrap the dressing tasted like old Italian and was very bitter I couldn't even eat the wrap I took to bites and couldn't eat anymore. the fries weren't that bad I was surprised not the best ive had but they were edible. we also had a sampler well the wings were horrible but i wouldnt says wings are really a greek food so thats to be expected. the chicken tenders cooked fine but very bland, cheeze sticks If you could call them that looked like a sponge inside and also bland, the onion ring were good but some of them had lots of grease built up in them which ruined them I told the waitress who I only saw 3 times In a hour that my wrap was nasty she said sorry and walked away I actually had to pay for that nasty food I didnt even eat. Also just to mention there was a fish tank In front of me so everytime I looked up I got to see the dead fish floating around at the top very appetizing and anyone who likes the decor has issues It's very dated and needs work If you want good food go to the Palace Diner near Marist College theres a reason It's always busy not everything Is the best but thats with all diners I'd say second would be eveready in Hyde Park but If you don't wanna drive that to either of them just go to The Dutchess Diner It's hit or miss there but decent O BTW the owner of the Palace Is building a new Diner across from walmart In Fishkill I can't wait I wont have to drive 20 minutes for good food oh yea I almost forgot the new table talk diner Is owned By I think hes brother or cousin It's a little rough right now because of the waitstaff but I'm sure It will get better sorry for the long review but just needed to let people know where to get good food and how much of a mistake It is to go to I 84 diner Thanks. read more

Looking for a good place to eat, we decided to stop at this wonderful place just off the highway. And it most certainly did not disappoint! Our server Anthony made us feel very much at home with his hospitality. I'm a huge breakfast person, so his suggestion to try the wraps was on point. The bacon and scrambled egg wrap may very well be the best wrap I've ever had. On the other end of the table, mom had a turkey avocado panini. She was very pleased with her meal, to say the least. I can truly say in many, many years of going to the 84 diner I have never hsd less than excellent service or a great meal. The waitresses aren't phony little chipies; most of them have been there a long time and really go out of their way to make sure you have a pleasant experience. As far as the food, you get your money's worth and its good! Try getting a cheeseburger deluxe and you get a "real" burger and more fries than you can handle. Visited the diner recently with my family. My wife and I are from out of town and my brother who lives in the area recommended. My brother knows I'm not a fan of diners so I'd have to say I was optimistic. Well my brother was right. My wife and I were very happy. I had the Irish Eggs Benedict (the English muffin was topped with hash instead of ham). This was very good. My eggs were cooked just right and the English muffins were huge. The home fries were delicious. My wife had the turkey BLT. She had no complaints. I'm a bit of a Cole Slaw slob, I can say that theirs was delicious. The service was excellent. Our server Jill was offering me coffee the moment I sat down. She was on top of everything and extremely pleasant to boot. By far, NOT the best diner in NY. This diner is just ok. I am never excited by anything I have eaten here, and am often disappointed. You will often find 20 or 30 high school kids in here after a school function because it's close and they are not discriminating. My favorite diner? The Eveready Diner in Hyde Park (now also just off Rt 84 in Brewster, too). Next, The Palace Diner in Poughkeepsie. Then a tie between The Daily Planet and The Beekman Square Diner. Then comes The 84 Diner, and at the bottom of the list - The Dutchess Diner in Wappingers Falls. The people that own The Eveready also own the Double O Grill in Wappingers and Rhinebeck (my favorties), and the Coyote Grill in Poughkeepsie. These are more upscale restaurants with excellent menus, but when I want to save a few dollars, the Eveready is almost the same food for a few bucks less. Also, there is a new Eveready DIner just off Route 84 in Brewster. Same great food. read more

I've been eating at the I-84 Diner at least once or twice a year for about 15 years. During drives from the DC area to New England, they have been an oasis at 2 AM for coffee and a quick meal as well as a comfy place for breakfasts and lunches on days when we had a longer time to stop. The Greek cuisine is fantastic (especially the combo platter- enough to share or for two meals!), and the pancakes and omelettes have always been delicious. We always leave with a napoleon from the bakery as well- although the cheesecake is also really good. Stopping here has become a tradition for my family, and we always look forward to trips through New York so we can stop in! read more
