Stopped here for lunch on a drive from Boston to Wilkes-Barre. This place is excellent and located right off the highway! Our server was fantastic (and entertaining) and the food was great and cheap. I've been going to this diner with my family for years. A few years ago the food really wasn't up to par..I believe they stepped up their game when the Red Line Diner opened up several years ago. 84 diner revamped their menu to compete with Red Line. However the food is dicey there still. The matzoh ball soup is great and consistent. As is the regular diner fare like breakfast and hamburgers. Their triple decker BLT was dry and more LT than bacon and pricey at that but the sweet potatoe fries were good though. The chicken my mother had was overcooked and dry. If you go there I'd suggest sticking to eggs and burgers. read more

Coming from pittsburgh, this place beats any diner i experienced in a long time. Great service. Matza ball soup and spinach pie were delic. Best lookin pastries i've ever seen in a diner. We frequent a lot of diners and we have been going here for years. Food is good. I am giving them a 1 star because of my recent visit. It was very busy. I get it. We were a party of 4 and we were seated. We were given 2 menus. 10 min later helper asked what drinks we wanted and we said water. We got our water. A couple of tables got seated. They were both approached by their waitress and orders taken. Our waitress finally came over 30 minutes later and said sorry for the wait . We said we are actually leaving now and she said she can take our order and put a rush on it. We said no thank you. Upon leaving I told the manager that we were leaving and never got served. He said they are very busy and that they would serve me now. I said no thank you and that people that just got seated was served before us. I never make a negative review and this is my first but I feel pretty strongly about this 1 star. I am not going back. read more

The I-84 Diner is one of our favorite stops when we are traveling through upstate NY. Absolutely love it there. Their Linzer tarts are the hugest I've ever seen and taste great to boot. There was a nasty rotten smell and they didn't do anything about it after they informed us that they had been smelling it for a few hours prior to us being there. The iced tea tasted nothing like tea at all and the food was absolutely disgusting. My chicken sandwich smelled like it was spoiled and when i informed the waitress she said, "It smells like chicken to me" and walked off. My husband and I always eat here I have given a five star review in the past how excellent the blt is is on yelp however today (Sunday) we went at 6am there was maybe two people eating there besides us so no reason to screw up our food other than the grey haired waitress didn't take our order down right because she tries to memorize what you order instead of right it down. First off she asked what we would like to drink I said orange juice she brings the large one and I said I want the small one that comes with the breakfast she said oh this one is only 80 cents more and leaves it I didn't care that it was 80 cents more I wanted the small one that came with the meal. I let her do what she wanted to not ruin my husbands meal and be confrontational. I woke up craving eggs Benedict so rather than make it and do dishes we decided to eat out and you expect it to be done right when you specifically go out for what you can't wait to eat. We both said well done potatoes twice ( which we get there all the time) after she put our plates down with white mushy potatoes she saw my face and remembered we ordered them well done she gave us some bs story that these as dark as they could get them or they would have to be deep fried. She knew the eggs were also under cooked she said "Are the eggs ok? " we had to be somewhere or i would of said all of this and waited. (the eggs slid off the English muffins to the side) terrible presentation of the dish the hollandaise sauce was watery and English muffins were under toasted so it was mushy with watery from the hollandaise sauce, not to mention the Canadian bacon was the two end slices fatty and tough . Don't order Eggs Benedict here unless your specific on asking if the chef knows how to make it. In the future we will go to a privately owned restaurant for a speciality dish were they pride themselves how it goes out to the table. Stick to eggs and toast at 1-84 diner. As you can see we left unhappy getting our order all messed up and the waitress really wasn't pleasant she should get another job, there job is to smile and serve people if they don't like that don't be a waitress the place was empty, no reason for bad service at all. And we were pleasant. I only gave three stars because I have never had bad service in the past but today deserved no stars to be honest very bad service/meal today and first time this happened. One last thing the cleaning lady was mopping all around our area while we were eating that's disgusting clean the area when we leave or close the areas you have to clean. read more

We stopped there last night for some late-night breakfast and the vibe was negative as soon as we walked in the door. Three waitresses stared at us for over five minutes before we were seated, and the waitress who did seat us was visibly angry, didn't say a word to us, and basically threw the menus on the table. After another 20 minutes of waiting for someone to take our order, and no one approached us even though the waitresses had plenty of time to sit around and talk, we left. Eat somewhere else unless you like poor service and an even poorer attitude. read more

My wife and I stopped here on the way back to Arizona from New Hampshire. Service was excellence! Good home-style cooking. Would highly recommend the pot roast as well as any dessert. Eaten here so far a few times for either breakfast or dinner. They have a huge menu so it can be a bit overwhelming but there is definitely something for everyone. I haven't given them more stars because their food is hit or miss sometimes. I went for breakfast recently and ordered their No 1 special which was one egg, two sausage links, two bacon strips, two french toast slices and 1 pancake. Well my over hard egg was very over cooked where I couldn't even cut it, the sausage was watery? and tasteless, the bacon was super salty - the saving grace was the french toast and the pancake which were very good. Now I've had eggs, bacon and other meats here before and they were much better so I'm just wondering if it was just an off morning? Otherwise, their soups are fantastic, their burgers are phenomenal and I had a gyro platter which was very good the last time I went for dinner. Its definitely a good diner with plenty of parking and easy off,easy on to Route 84. I want to go back a few more times for breakfast and see if its improved before I up my stars or leave them the way they are. read more

I've dined at the I-84 Diner since I was a child, a span of 15+ years, and it has certainly seen better days. The diner used to sport an aquarium, elegant design and greater quality food. Over the years; however, it has undergone a renovation and has downgraded both the quality of food and the design of the diner. The water didn't always used to taste like chlorine, but I noticed that chlorine was in every glass I water I'd get there about 5 years ago. It's so strong you couldn't possibly miss it, and being the patient person I am, I used to point out the problem and ask for a new glass - Only to find it still has chlorine in it. Each time. So they are likely aware of this and not adjusting. There were a few moments where I've went there and found dark particles in my water as well. You can taste the difference in food when comparing this diner to others. Their eggs, chicken tenders, especially every protein for some strange reason doesn't taste as good here as it does at, say, The Yankee Clipper in Beacon or Redline diner in Fishkill. I-84 Diner used to have little consoles on each table to entertain children. Many parents were disappointed when they found out that they would be charged for their children's use of the consoles. It was deceptive how they placed them on the tables, but didn't articulate a charge would be associated with their use, so I think they have been discontinued. I didn't see them around the last time I dined here. I really don't recommend I-84 Diner, whether it be a casual meal or special occasion, as it's a great disappointment when you spend your hard earned money on a so-so eating experience. I would have written a every different review a decade ago, but this diner has really let themselves go. read more

I grew up in Fishkill NY, so I was excited to be back for a hockey tournament and bring my family. It was ok, but I am sad to say I was disappointed. It was SO. LOUD. We went for breakfast and dropped $48 for three of us. Seems a bit pricey. I ordered a breakfast wrap, which was solid. The sides (sour cream, salsa and guac) were horrible though. The guacamole tasted like it came out of a bag. The salsa was not fresh tasting, probably also pre-made. The home fries are to die for, however!!! The pancakes were kind of tasteless. My family wanted to try the red line diner and so we tried that the next day. Much to my dismay, we enjoyed it more than the 84 diner and it was cheaper. :( read more

Had a very disappointing time. Ordered French Banana Toast. When my order arrived with no bananas and only a few broken up pecans, I asked the waitress about the banana's. She couldn't tell me where the bananas were. She didn't offer to get me any. She acted a little confused about it. She also tried to give me two orders. I only ordered one order. She took one back. I let it go because I do not plan on ever returning again. I was in a group of 9 people. Two other people in my group had problems also. I went back here with a friend at night for a snack. Mainly a ice cream sundae with a waffle. Which is on the menu. We got there and was seated immediately. Waitress came up and proceeded to tell us how she had a rough day and I'm like okay something I don't really need to know but okay. We both ordered the same thing. Which she repeated back to us and asked if I had wanted strawberries. And I was like okay. Food comes out it's just a waffle and strawberries and we'll I told her we ordered the sundae w/ waffle . And she said oh. She came back with a bowl of ice cream. A sundae isn't just with ice cream they're fixings to it . So she went and got a shot glass with chocolate syrup. Then she proceeded to talk to another waitress 4 feet away about how I asked about the strawberries and how I was wrong, and my friend and I heard everything. We ate what we got and she was like do you guys want dessert. Frankly I came here for dessert and what I got was a waitress who clearly doesn't know customer service. We have lived nearby for 5 years. I have heard great things. Finally went there after Easter Mass. Daughter ordered Apple waffles, w compote, wife had Eggs Benedict and I a simple Gyro for $8.99 which does not include anything! Anyway Eggs Benedict was good, Gyro was small, meat was excellent but about 3 small slivers and ingredients were all tasty, cucumber sauce was great! For $9, smallest gyro I have ever had!! Server asked if I wanted reg fries or waffle fries , I asked if it was extra, she said waffle fries are 1.99 extra. I said regular fries. The bill arrived and I was charged $3 extra for fries, which means if I agreed to waffle fries it would have been $5 extra!! Confused!? Yup I was too, when I asked her to explain she walked away and said 'Hallelujah' loud enough for other tables to hear! Daughters meal arrived and it was Cinn.Raisin waffles w no compote. Wrong order and when I mentioned it to server she acted like it was the kitchen's fault. No we didn't want to wait for a new order. She made no adjustment to the price at all, for their screwup! 2 of slices of bacon were burnt , not crisp, burnt Black, all over on one side. And both slices of toast were burnt. A first time cook in the kitchen?! Sorry I-84 your entire menu is over priced and yes, Red Line Diner's menu at this price point is far superior.
