Came over for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. French toast and bacon/mushroom were fine. They have parking and good air conditioning - food is fine, on par with the reasonable prices

I decided to pick up a lemon chicken for lunch during the week from I Love Grill. It is a small restaurant right on N School Street with a few tables inside to sit down. They also have a small parking lot in the front that can get crowded during the lunch and dinner rushes. The lemon chicken was great! Crispy and not too oily. I got the regular plate and it was enough for me to split it and eat the left overs for the next day. I would definitely got back to try a few other items on their menu.

My expectations for the burger were high. They gave me too many French fries. All carbs Below mid on everything

We went there around 9:00 am and decided to try some of his lunch items. I ordered Beef curry mini plate which came with rice & Mac salad and beef curry, it came out hot and it was very flavorful and tasty, some of the meat was tough and some tender, but overall it was good. My wife ordered the beef stew mini plate and it came out hot, but it was on the sweet side, which she didn't care for, so I tried it and yes it was not like the local style beef stew it was very sweet which the sweetness dominated the stew flavor and she had a lot of tough meats, told her that most restaurant use clods it the cheaper cuts and if they don't cook it long enough it is tough. The staff is friendly like always

My new favorite BBQ plate lunch...this place is the best!

This place is the best. I get the $9.99 breakfast plate or just the pancakes in the morning. I liked the pancakes so much that I would even order them in the afternoon, (3)pancakes for only $6...McDonald's gives you these small ass pancakes for the same amount of money. My go-to plate lunch now is the BBQ mix plate. You can't go wrong with the chicken katsu plate lunch or the chicken katsu musubi either from this place. Drive up, park, and order what I mentioned earlier and you won't be disappointed. This place is the best!

Stopped by I Love Grill, a newer spot down the street this morning for breakfast. I went with the special combo of the day, which came with mochiko chicken and loco moco, while my girlfriend tried the chicken katsu. The mochiko chicken was tasty and definitely the highlight of my plate. The loco moco, on the other hand, was pretty average. The patty was the same type you'd expect from a basic burger, so nothing too special there. My girlfriend enjoyed the chicken katsu and I thought it was decent. The sauce stood out since it was more tomato based than the usual katsu sauce, which gave it a different twist. One nice thing is that their specials include a drink which adds a little extra value. Plus, they open at 7am, making it a convenient option if you're looking for an early meal.

Lunch time grindz. We have visited twice, and both hubs and I tried different mini-plates. Chicken Katsu was light, crispy, and a huge offering which came out to be about 3 pieces of chicken in a mini! Cold ginger chicken with extra sauce, solid mini plate. Mini meat jun (special) was different--the meat was cut up before being dipped in the egg and fried. The taste was ok, but it wasn't what I would call a traditionl looking meat jun, and there seemed to be much less. Chicken cutlet mini with brown gravy sauce; it was different than the katsu, as it was a bit more dense and had more of a firm texture, and didn't have as much chicken as the first katsu plate did. So far, so good. We will be back for lunch again. It's convenient, service was polite and they will bring the food to you if you are eating in.

Got a few burgers and crinkle fries. They had a 2 burger deluxe combo with two large drinks for $18.36 (price was not on the sign near the counter). Burgers were good, but I refuse to give 5 stars for a frozen patty. Would be better if it were homemade. They have a pretty standard L&L style menu with plate lunches and burgers. Service was courteous and quick. Dine-in tables were clean. Parking is very hit or miss. There's only a handful of stalls out front. Quick turnover may result in a stall opening up if you wait. There aren't a lot of great street parking options nearby.

Breakfast in Kalihi, Honolulu, Hawaii... While my friend's car was being serviced, I took her to this Hot New Business called, "I Love Grill". It's kind of like L&L - order and pay with the cashier. If it's not busy, they'll bring your meal to your table. Usually, they'll call out your number when your meal is ready. Inside is very spacious and clean. Outside, the parking was congested because of construction. It should have cleared up by now. I got the shrimp and mushroom omelet with toast... yummy! They didn't have wheat toast, but that's ok. The cashier brought two little jelly containers to me later. I had a nice experience here. I wish 'I Love Grill" much success, prosperity and happiness! Thanks for the cheerful and efficient service!

Kalua pork mini, steak and garlic shrimp

I was so surprised!! I passed by this place before thinking, "oh another plate lunch plate that won't do so well". But I gave it a shot anyway. The cashier was really nice and had good service. There's a dining area but most people just take out. I ordered the Kalua pork mini and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It was flavorful and juicy. The cabbage was a bit too thin for my liking but it was still good! It was also a good ratio of cabbage to pork. Mac salad is pretty decent as well. Partner got the steak and garlic shrimp, and i actually really liked the shrimp! Large, plump shrimp. Pleasantly crispy and seasoned well. After a few shrimp it started to have a weird aftertaste though... The steak I didn't try but they said it was pretty good. Prices are decent for good plates! Would go again.

Nice and clean just opened for a few weeks. Took over Aunty Z's restaurant across the Kalihi's Rainbow Drive in. There's a convenient small parking lot in front. Located off of the busy School St and near Houghtailing St. "I Love Grill" served some local comfort food.which is similar to local drive in restaurants. They offer mini and regular plates and a few plates on their healthy menu with 1 scoop of brown rice and a toss green salad. The chicken wings were nice and crunchy yet juicy. I'm not sure but it's like those double fried chicken wings which had more of a crunch! Best to eat it right away! The Mac salad had some grated carrots and perhaps a touch of chopped parsley. The rice was on the drier side and not like what I'm used to having. Perhaps they can perfect that. The beef stew was pretty good with one big potato and carrot and about 5 pieces of beef in a bowl container. They have a catering menu too. You can dine in their nice size dining area with a tv monitor. There was a long waiting bench at the front as you wait. Nice addition to the Kalihi area!

    Loco moco and mochiko plate

Picked up food for the airport. I got the daily special which was a loco moco and mochiko chicken plate. It comes with 2 scoops of rice and Mac salad. This special also came with a drink. $16.95. Not a bad deal. The hamburger patty and the gravy in the loco moco was flavorful. The mochiko chicken was still crispy and not soggy at the airport. That was tasty too. I just wish the chicken were in bigger chunks vs long thinner pieces. Friendly service with good size portions and comparable prices. They offer a huge variety on their menu.

I expected the restaurant to have a long wait time, but we got lucky. There was no wait and my family and I were seated right away. As soon as we sat down, we were served with cups of ice cold water perfect for the hot humid day. We ordered Menu B which came with Kalua Pig and Pipikaula Short ribs with your choice of sides which we chose rice. We also ordered another plate of the short ribs and added haupia and mac salad. I wish I got the server's name, she was so cool but she explained all the food and how to eat the side dishes. They served sliced onions with pink salt and that was delicious. The short ribs were thick, tender, savory and had the perfect amount of fat. The flavor was addicting. The kalua pig was really good, perfect amount of salt and smoke flavor. The mac salad really well with all the food we ordered and that alone was already good. The haupia for dessert was the best way to end the meal. Everything was just heaven. Parking was easy since it was during the week and early in the afternoon, but there is street parking. The restaurant was clean, all the workers were really nice, and very attentive from start to finish. My sister and I split the bill, so I paid my portion and added a tip. The person processing my payment told me they had refunded my tip because gratuity was already included. How awesome is that?! I'm sure many other restaurants wouldn't have mentioned it and would have just accepted the extra tip. That level of honesty and service is what keeps people coming back, and it's one of the many reasons I would highly recommend Helena's to my friends and family who haven't been there yet. I plan to visit Hawaii again before the holidays and I'm definitely going to be eating here again. Mahalo to everyone at Helena's!

And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.

There are 2-4 seats in this space, but you won't find anyone sitting at this cafe. Usually, it is grab and go. I was impressed with their various options. They have salmon musubi, tuna mayo musubi, and many more. My personal favorite is the chicken musubi, and I would usually buy it before I go off on a big adventure on the island or after my swim at Waikiki Beach. The staff here are kind, patient, and friendly. I wish I knew they had a stamp card because they actually do. I buy from them a lot. Along with musubi and sushi, you'll find that they sell trinkets, bags, and other souvenirs. Be sure to come by. They are handmade and fantastic!

The most memorable ones for me were the Spam with pickled daikon and the curry musubi. Both were so good and definitely stood out from the other flavors I tried. It's also just a short walk from the beach, so you can easily order some musubi and take it over to the beach to eat. They do have a few tables inside too if you want to eat there.

The owner was very friendly and took the time to recommend dishes for us, including the laulau and lechon kawali. We also ordered the BBQ short ribs. Overall, it was a good experience trying Hawaiian food, but it's just not really our type of cuisine. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.

Good local Hawaiian food restaurant. Street parking only. Small restaurant I believe it was Ono…read moreHawaii on Kapahulu before. Now it is named the Da Ono Hawaiian Foods. Either the owner or the manager seemed like a one man show. He was the server, bus boy, and chef. Husband got the pipikalua short ribs/he enjoyed. Sisters got the pork lau lau which came with sweet potato, rice or poi, lomi lomi salmon (more onion and tomato than salmon). i got the chicken lau lau, again stuffed with chicken, not enough taro leaves. The Haupia was smoky, so either burnt or something- inedible! Only six tables in the entire restaurant. The gentleman that was serving us I believe was also the bus boy, cook, server and cashier! Place is a hole in the wall with missing ceiling tiles and exposed panels above our table (gross!!). Sis loves this dive so we keep coming back!
