Always service with a smile here. Food is onolicious (delicious). The breakfast was affordable and generous size grindz. Very neat, modern style and clean place with about 8 tables. I liked the pancakes so much that I would even order them in the afternoon, (3)pancakes for only $6...McDonald's gives you these small ass pancakes for the same amount of money. My wife ordered the beef stew mini plate and it came out hot, but it was on the sweet side, which she didn't care for, so I tried it and yes it was not like the local style beef stew it was very sweet which the sweetness dominated the stew flavor and she had a lot of tough meats, told her that most restaurant use clods it the cheaper cuts and if they don't cook it long enough it is tough. Lunch time grindz. We have visited twice, and both hubs and I tried different mini-plates. Chicken Katsu was light, crispy, and a huge offering which came out to be about 3 pieces of chicken in a mini! Cold ginger chicken with extra sauce, solid mini plate. Mini meat jun (special) was different--the meat was cut up before being dipped in the egg and fried. The taste was ok, but it wasn't what I would call a traditionl looking meat jun, and there seemed to be much less. Chicken cutlet mini with brown gravy sauce; it was different than the katsu, as it was a bit more dense and had more of a firm texture, and didn't have as much chicken as the first katsu plate did. Stopped by I Love Grill, a newer spot down the street this morning for breakfast. I went with the special combo of the day, which came with mochiko chicken and loco moco, while my girlfriend tried the chicken katsu. The mochiko chicken was tasty and definitely the highlight of my plate. The loco moco, on the other hand, was pretty average. The patty was the same type you'd expect from a basic burger, so nothing too special there. My girlfriend enjoyed the chicken katsu and I thought it was decent. The sauce stood out since it was more tomato based than the usual katsu sauce, which gave it a different twist. One nice thing is that their specials include a drink which adds a little extra value. We tried a new place opened right next to 76 gas station on N School St. they have a good amount of parking and the place is open with chairs and tables to sit and dine in. They have benches to sit while you wait for your order. They're very nice and friendly. We got the fried chicken plate and it's different served, the chicken thighs are cut up and them deep fried in a light breaded seasoned but to heavy on the pepper. Their teriyaki steak was a bit too sweet for Mama's liking. However their BBQ plate wasn't so bad. The short rib and bbq chicken was seasoned well. The max salad was decent. Got a few burgers and crinkle fries. They had a 2 burger deluxe combo with two large drinks for $18.36 (price was not on the sign near the counter). Burgers were good, but I refuse to give 5 stars for a frozen patty. Would be better if it were homemade. They have a pretty standard L&L style menu with plate lunches and burgers. Service was courteous and quick. Dine-in tables were clean. Parking is very hit or miss. There's only a handful of stalls out front. Quick turnover may result in a stall opening up if you wait. If it's not busy, they'll bring your meal to your table. Usually, they'll call out your number when your meal is ready. Inside is very spacious and clean. Outside, the parking was congested because of construction. It should have cleared up by now. I got the shrimp and mushroom omelet with toast... yummy! They didn't have wheat toast, but that's ok. I was so surprised!! I passed by this place before thinking, "oh another plate lunch plate that won't do so well". But I gave it a shot anyway. The cashier was really nice and had good service. There's a dining area but most people just take out. I ordered the Kalua pork mini and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It was flavorful and juicy. The cabbage was a bit too thin for my liking but it was still good! It was also a good ratio of cabbage to pork. Mac salad is pretty decent as well. Partner got the steak and garlic shrimp, and i actually really liked the shrimp! Large, plump shrimp. Pleasantly crispy and seasoned well. Located off of the busy School St and near Houghtailing St. "I Love Grill" served some local comfort food.which is similar to local drive in restaurants. They offer mini and regular plates and a few plates on their healthy menu with 1 scoop of brown rice and a toss green salad. The chicken wings were nice and crunchy yet juicy. I'm not sure but it's like those double fried chicken wings which had more of a crunch! Best to eat it right away! The Mac salad had some grated carrots and perhaps a touch of chopped parsley. The rice was on the drier side and not like what I'm used to having. Perhaps they can perfect that. The beef stew was pretty good with one big potato and carrot and about 5 pieces of beef in a bowl container. They have a catering menu too. Picked up food for the airport. I got the daily special which was a loco moco and mochiko chicken plate. It comes with 2 scoops of rice and Mac salad. This special also came with a drink. $16.95. Not a bad deal. The hamburger patty and the gravy in the loco moco was flavorful. The mochiko chicken was still crispy and not soggy at the airport. That was tasty too. The rice was made well. macaroni salad was better than average. Please fix your katsu sauce and lemon chicken sauce. The katsu sauce was not edible it tasted like ketchup and the color was off, kinda milky color. Based on this it seems as if the chef never ate chicken katsu. Went in to order food to go, and Choy took my order right away. He was kind of busy and was attending to other clients before I got there but got to me pretty quick. I ordered their NY Steak plate, side of garlic shrimp, did a combination of their specials of meat jun and their sweet sour ribs. Steak and shrimp was onolicious as always, the meat jun practically melted in my mouth. Very tender and soft. It came with jun sauce which in my opinion did not need the sauce at all. He should have given me less sauce than that because it was in a 4 oz. soufflé cup. The sweet and sour ribs was also good and very tender. I ate the combo of sweet sour ribs and meat jun very quickly. And I normally take my time eating. So you know it was very delicious. The vibe in the place was warm and inviting as always. Brought my kids here for breakfast. It's a small parking lot but since they just opened for the day we easily got a stall. Our total was about $90 for 6 of us, that's reasonable since everything is expensive now days. Portions was actually really nice too, kept us filled till dinner. The down side was they got a delivery right when we were leaving so we got trapped in the parking lot till the delivery guy left which took no more than 10 mins. Coworker of mine alerted me of this place that set up shop in the former restaurant that said sadly before they got renovated. The result is this restaurant called "I Love Grill". The vibe and ambience feels like a Zippy's or an L&L Hawaiian barbecue restaurant. With that said, I walked from my workplace to this restaurant on N. School Street On a casual Wednesday for lunchtime. It was very big and clean and looked very new. There was plenty of seats and tables available because I guess I'd beat the lunch rush. It was after 1 PM and I came here. My order took about 10 minutes to wait after ordering. It was fairly quick for short orders. I ordered 3 plates for myself and 2 coworkers. They do all day breakfast, which was awesome! I ended up getting a corned beef hash breakfast while my coworkers ended up getting a breakfast plate with bacon and one got a breakfast combo. I ended up waiting in the front for my order when other people came in and placed their orders too. I probably spent about 20 minutes in total here and it kind of generally felt like full service, local comfort food place in the heart of Kalihi. It is quite nice because it is essentially located to my workplace and is in walking distance. It is next to the rainbow drive-in restaurant, but across the street. If you're in the mood to try something different and support local business, consider trying this new place in Kalihi. Might be the same local comfort food we all enjoy & that you're used to and familiar with, but try them out. They may surprise you. It's been good to me and will be coming back when time allows. The overall experience here and I Love Grill restaurant was fairly satisfactory and definitely a place where I could see myself coming here for a nice plate lunch when you don't want the usual burgers or fries, or even taco or Chinese food. The service here was friendly and fast, and definitely a nice change of pace. They have what most people like here locally, so you can probably see their menu online and decide from there. I believe they do phone orders, but not mobile orders. I recommended and you could just place an order and walk right into pick up without having to wait for it. I Love Grill restaurant is located at 1336 North School St. in Kalihi, Oahu. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. Only problem is that it is related to the cups that has the soda fountain. At the time of my experience here, they only had up to medium size cups. They did not have large or extra large, which was disappointing for real. Oh well, it is what it is and I ended up getting drinks from a nearby convenience store on my way back to the office. Maybe they will have large and extra large cups in the future, but for now they only have medium size cups, as of March 2025. As far as parking goes, they have very limited parking in front of the restaurant. If they do not have any parking available, best bet is to find street parking wherever we can find it nearby and walk over. If you are like me, bus route 2 and 2L travels along N. School St. and stops either in front of it or nearby. That is your basic direct route to this restaurant if traveling by public transportation. And there is always, Uber and Lyft at your disposal. And so, another new restaurant is up for yall for to check out. definitely try to check them out and show some love. It is pricey comparatively to many other fast food places out there on the island. My friend treated me to this meal and I was quite impressed by it. I've tried pork chops from Bob's Barbecue (too small portion), Lucky Box (just ok), Kam Bowl (rubbery but had gravy and mushroom) and other diners but this is the best so far. The meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. The macaroni salad was good. Most other places have plain macaroni salad that taste bland. The only knock would be the rice which was a little on the overcooked or dry side. It even came with a free drink as a promo! The only other dish I have had from them is the hamburger steak which was underwhelming. They were thin and weren't worth the price in my opinion hence the four out of five stars. read more
