Their prices are low enough that even with the extra fees plus tip, the total is comparable to many in-person takeout places. The food so far has been good, but I've had mixed experiences with delivery. I start work early, so I prefer early breakfasts, which may be too early for many drivers. My approach now is to order a little later. Yesterday I ordered the Corn Beef Hash with Fried Rice. The driver arrived earlier than estimated and even gave the aroma a good review. Great spot for a grab and go meal. A friend had recommended this place for breakfast and lunch plate and I decided to give it a try. K & K Kitchen is a take out restaurant serving quick and affordable comfort food. Their menu has sandwiches, burgers, side dishes, plate lunch, and even specials. I ordered their luncheon meat rice plate with 2 eggs over easy. Serving portions were generous especially for the price. The luncheon meat had a nice crisp around the edges and absolutely filling. Service is fast and I received my order within minutes. Lunch time is definitely their busiest time. Getting to this takeout spot can a little tricky, however worth the trek. All good just look for the bright blue building! 7am ain't early in Kalihi as I'm third in line just beating out the Construction Bruddahs in lifted To-yoda. I was about to order when auntie at the counter picked up the phone before me and of course it was an order of twelve tutu breakfast plates. Luckily she yelled my order to cook before submitting phone orders or I'd still be waiting lol. So, no need ack. Anyways, I ordered Eggs over easy, corned beef hash, upgraded fried rice. Breakfast plates average in the $10-$12 range, however with my upgrade of fried rice it was north of $13. All orders are made to order, so guarans you'll be waiting on the side. After a few minutes in the Kalihi morning sun my order is ready. Heavy! K & K is take-out, so after a short drive I enjoyed the massive corned beef hash, crisp on the edges and succulent inside. The fried rice was Cantonese style, so yesterday's Char Siu for flavor and tasty. Worth the $2 upgrade! In the end, K & K Kitchen in Kalihi was definitely a good choice for a hearty local-style breakfast you won't find at the mall. Don't expect fancy or the word "culinary" here... but if craving a simple breakfast that's delicious and will feed you til tomorrow this is the spot for you! Did you grow up with the Manapua man that drives the grey truck? Did you know they have a restaurant and this is it! They're located in Kalihi. You can find them across where they park their trucks. Parking is limited, but the times I've gone, I have gotten lucky and have parked right in front. I'm not quite sure how many cooks are there, but it sounds a like maybe one or two. The girl who takes your order is nice and food comes out in about 10-15 minutes after ordering. We ordered the corned beef hash and it was great! We also ordered the orange chicken and wow, those were some big chickens with some great flavor! We also ordered the loco moco and it was one of the best loco mocos we've had. It's topped with two eggs, two slices of spam, two thick slices of Portuguese Sausage and two slices of bacon. I ordered my eggs scrambled. The eggs were over done. This is a busy place and parking is a little tough. However, the plates are packed and definitely worth waiting for. My husband wanted to try the garlic chicken and the plate was heavy! The chicken pieces were boneless and huge! They also didn't skimp on the rice which is a good thing. I didn't want rice but my plate was still really big! I had two pieces of hamburger steak, scrambled eggs and gravy. The portion was definitely enough to fill me up, and I had extra for later. I heard from a state employee that food truck comes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Tiime is 11:00 am. Location is in front of state parking structure across from Hawaii Educational Federal Credit Union (233 S Vineyard St). Truck has name of food truck. Menu is a big selection. Employees could be son and mom who speak Cantonese. My coworkers and I got there 5 minutes before 11:00 am. There were other people who work at state building came in line. Everyone was happy that there was another business to buy food from. Our order was pasteles stew, garlic chicken, and Lau lau. Pasteles stew regular plate has 1 scoop Mac salad and 2 scoops rice but mini had 1 scoop rice. Pasteles stew and Mac salad good. I look forward to trying them again next week. read more

I don't aggressively cross off my bookmarks but I've kept K&K Kitchen (KK) in the back burner for YEARS. KK took over the spot of the popular, original location of Mitsuken Bento and Catering that moved in 2013. I've always been a fan of garlic chicken and usually get my fix from Mitsuken and Sugoi. Step in chicken fanatic Fran C. who would post and boast about KK's garlic chicken plate. With such challenging parking, I've waited over 10 years to finally try KK back in April 2024. I live about a 5min drive from KK and have passed here hundreds of times and would survey the parking, but found myself giving up. I was running errands and feeling pretty down as I had another tax year of writing checks to Uncle Sam. It was past 130pm and still didn't eat lunch yet and found myself on N School Street. As I approached, I noticed KK's door still open and only one car in the adjacent parking. I pulled in and finally, was going to see what Fran has been raving over. I walked to the counter and heard Cantonese being spoken between the counter staff and the kitchen crew. I didn't need to study the menu as I just came to try the garlic chicken. I ordered a regular plate with all rice and after paying, I stood on the side waiting for my food with free entertainment of a few feral chickens nearby and witnessed an elderly Asian woman struggle with parallel parking of multiple attempts while her elderly husband (?) trying to guide her. When the girl blurted "garlic chicken all rice", I made my way back to the counter to get my food where I asked for a pair of chopsticks instead of a fork. I hopped back into my car and headed back home. THE VERDICT: I was impressed on the garlic chicken plate. As I removed the cover, the chicken was piping hot, the way I enjoy my food. Strategically took a bite trying not to burn my mouth and the chicken was super moist, juicy and packed with flavor. I noticed some sauce that accumulated on the bottom so I dipped the chicken and I was in heaven. The rice was your standard plate lunch rice that paired well with the flavorful chicken. With comparison to their competitors, KK's garlic chicken is superior because it wasn't overcooked nor did the chicken have excess chicken skin. You were served good quality chicken meat. Service was average as the staff just got the job done. She was engaged in conversing with the kitchen staff in Chinese. I noticed that KK is much more sanitary and brighter than the dingy and somewhat questionable Mitsuken back in the olden days. Overall, an impressive first experience at Kk where I'd be game for a return visit. With parking the major issue, I'd probably go back in the afternoon just before they close with hopes of less foot traffic and available parking. NOTE: I ate less than half of the plate and gave the leftovers to favorite nephew by default who devoured it. He asked where the food was from as he thoroughly enjoyed it. read more

Aloha no... To be honest, their food isn't that great. However, if you're looking for price and affordability, then "yes" K‡K is where you want to go. They have lower prices on average than other hole in the wall establishments. I tried their garlic chicken plate one morning and came back the next day for their corned beef hash breakfast. Garlic chicken was OK, but unfortunately the rice was hard (like when one doesn't add enough water). The corned beef hash patty was pretty good size, but had too much crust on it (like it was on the flat grill for way too long). Taste-wise, both were so-so. I live 20 miles away, so wouldn't drive out of my way to eat here. They have friendly folks at the window, but parking sucks. Luckily I was able to park in their driveway both times, but everyone else that came after had to resort to parking illegally nearby or across the street. We usually come here after a morning hike. They have very good deals with their specials with so many options. They are known for their garlic chicken. We would always get the Special: Garlic Chicken with 2 Eggs, Fried Rice & 2 Bacons. They give a huge plate of fried rice and chunky charsiu. A bit on the sweeter side. If I'm going to shorten my lifespan because of my food choices... well, the food has to be worth it. And some of what I ordered here today fell short. I came here based on the rave reviews from fellow Yelpers but wasn't quite impressed as I thought I'd be... I ordered a variety of different dishes to share: Reg Fried Rice Reg Noodles Side of Garlic Chicken (5pc) Side of Steamed Pork Hash (8pc) Side of Corned Beef Hash One scoop of Mac Salad Fried Rice - looks plain and bland but it was actually well seasoned and one of the better dishes I enjoyed. Noodles - Texture was on point and I love chewy thin noodles... but it lacked in flavor, even after I added some bit of the spicy oil sauce it came with. The Char Siu pieces added to the flavor but couldn't save this dish. Garlic Chicken - Flavor was definitely there but it was really tough to bite into; fried pieces were stale... like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all morning, so it was chewy like tough jerky... Steamed Pork Hash - This was exactly what one could expect; a little salty but tender. I like to dip mine in Hot Mustard, which they do have if you ask. There is a fried Pork Hash option, but I didn't want to send myself to diabetes land with all the choices I made today. Corned Beef Hash - this was on the thicker side and tough to cut in half... had to use a serrated knife to take a piece, whereas at other places, it was tender enough to use a fork. Mac Salad - Nice and creamy but a bit pricey for one scoop There is a teeny parking lot on the left of the walk up window. But if it had been filled, finding parking in this area would be tricky. It's not a sit down restaurant so expect it's takeout only. There's a 4% charge for credit card transactions so bring cash, if you want to give this place a try. Overall, I didn't have the experience I was hoping for... the portions are huge but my meal was a bit lackluster. K&K is a great value and great tasing option if you're in the Kalihi area. Located at the former Mitsu-ken building K&K has been my go to breakfast place for some time now. The corned beef hash is my go to here. It's crispy (how I like it) and is a humongous portion. The fried rice option on plates are excellent too. I believe all their portions are generous and the prices are a big plus. There are no sitting areas here so the only option is to-go. Parking is probably the biggest issue here. There's a couple of stalls to the left of the building but otherwise street parking, if you're able to. Mornings are tough as there are restrictions to street parking at a certain time. If you're craving something inexpensive and you feel really hungry, K&K is the answer. You just gotta come early as their hours are only until 2pm. read more

Finally decided to stop and try here. Ordered the Garlic Chix and steak plates. The good: The plates are huge with lots of chicken and steak. The chicken is soft and juicy, not hard like Mitsuken. The people are friendly and it's very pleasant. I have to try the breakfast later because it looks very good with lots of selections. The bad: Parking is scarce but it's hit or miss. For the chicken plate, the sauce is good, but would be better if they soaked it a little longer. I came back and same thing, not enough sauce. Still better then Mitsuken. Have some questionable (in my opinion) people walking around, so just be aware of the surroundings. Overall, this is one of those places that you don't really hear a lot of like L&L and Rainbows. Too bad people are so used to that kinds of places. They should try this place and they will see that it's really good and better than most places that you are used to.
