So excited they are open at their new location on 20th street by Handle Bar! I love Hamachi (aka Yellowtail) especially Toro with its buttery taste! My son and his GF took me to dinner and we had a great dinner. Sat up front by the TV to watch Thursday Night Football & visited with the owner? Manager? He was great, should of got his name but we didn't get there until 8 pm (they close 8:45?) anyway miso soup was great, son enjoyed the noodles and we all loved our entrees!! Called in and asked for uni and bluefin, they got it, money. Didn't have any expectations but definitely executed beyond our imagination. Great value and nice portions of sushi, rice could be less sticky and tough but all good. Legit pricing on uni, bluefin, hirame, ama Ebi, kanpachi. Uni shooter was the size of a cocktail, like whoa. To be honest, my fellow yelpers almost scared me away with the mediocre 3.5 star rating. Not to be deterred, we ventured in after a sushi craving sparked Friday evening. The interior is somewhat typical of sushi restaurants, and seemed clean. The staff was great, and although not overly attentive , was not dinner ruining. We had the snow crab and spicy tuna tacos for an app. Both made me want to cancel the coming sushi rolls and order 2nds, and 3rds!!! The "tacos" featured a very crisp eggplant shell, filled with the meat. Finally each taco was topped with shredded veg( cabbage?carrots?) along with drizzled spicy mayo and eel sauce. They also usually come with shredded cheese, but wow, I couldn't pull the trigger on that one. We ordered ours without. The rolls that were ordered were as follows- California: very basic , but still a classic! Rainbow: loved that the fish topping was very thinly sliced instead of chunks. Masago( roe) was very generous. The Chico: my son loved it, big hit. Missed the spicy mayo on it though. There was one final roll, but I can't remember the name, so I definitely won't try to critique it. read more

We've eaten here a few times, old location and new. We usually have a good experience and really enjoy the food. I was just there this past week and was shocked at how dirty the floor was. Food on the floor and scraps of paper under every table and booth- and we arrived at 5:15, so it wasn't the end of the night. Awful food, awful/rude service. They didn't get my order right; salmon nigiri and a roll. I always ask for a side of lemons and didn't get those either. I still put a very good tip in the tip jar despite the man being so rude. Maybe he had a bad night but you don't take it out on paying costumers. Even the way he gave me my change was rude. Definitely had higher expectations due to them claiming they are a "sushi bar," but the sushi options are very limited! We are avid sushi goers and this place was a huge disappointment. We ordered 7 rolls and the most basic - spicy tuna roll was the best. Our server was very attentive, however the guy who sat us (he looked like a manager, stayed at the cash register area) was beyond rude and never said a word to us during the 3 interactions we had with him. I noticed how friendly of an environment this establishment has, and so i decided to order a beef teriyaki donburi. It was delicious and worth the short wait. i would come back anytime. They also had a new guy on the line and they're training him well, all in all a strong business with a reliable team. I wish this establishment for everyone to try. read more

The wife and I were visiting family and were looking for a bite on the lighter side of things. I'm typically weary of sushi spots that are inland but the reviews seemed honest enough. Service was a average. The waitress did not know names of items...for example I ordered saba and tobiko nigiri but the waitress didn't get it. Same thing when I ordered the Hamachi Kama but didn't understand that it's what they call the hama Kama. No biggie though. We just got waters and they were refilled promptly, but without ice. And it was 100 degrees out that day, 80 degrees in the restaurant. Ice should be filled to the top. If you've read my reviews before, you know that I'm a sushi snob. That being said, sushi here was meh. Rice was seasoned well, although there was a bit too much. They don't have masago but use tobiko instead. That was very sloppily made. Being that the sushi selection was a bit slim, we ordered other Japanese food to avoid spending excessively on average sushi. I got Katsu Curry which was good, but a bit unbalanced. There wasn't enough rice and the curry was strong enough to have to use all of the pickles to cut through the salt. I am still happy that they didn't short me on tthe curry though. Too much rice is worse than too much curry. They also place their cold salad in the same bowl as hot rice/curry so the salad gets warm. Kind of weird. I'd suggest they separate it and just add more rice to the bowl. The Hamachi Kama was perfect. It was a nice big piece and not over cooked. Every bite of fish was perfect. Takoyaki was good as well. Nice big pieces of octopus. The serve it in a cast iron skillet which is a little bit strange. The chef should have also spread the bonito flakes around instead of topping just the center but it is a minor gripe. Tried the Japanese Taco which was very good. I typically stay away from whitewashed sushi items but this one was good. Very filling, good enough if you're on a budget. All in all, this place is pretty decent. It's not exuberantly priced and good if you're looking for a wide array of Japanese food. read more

Took my Pops here when he was visiting and we had a blast. Got a table in like 5 minutes on a Saturday night and felt like the sushi gods were smiling down upon us. Service was very on the ball and I didn't see a single employee that wasn't on top of their game and doing a great job. Got an XL sake and it lasted us our whole meal and we're pretty solid drinkers. Definitely a great value and didn't disappoint. Ordered a couple rolls each, some seaweed salad, and a couple sides. All was pretty tasty and don't see much room for improvement. The green tea cheesecake and chocolate mochi were great finishing additions to the meal. I would definitely come here again and a lot of quick turnaround/high volume sushi spots could take some tips from this spot. I have had their sushi for 5 years and it was always my favorite. Unfortunately, after moving to the new location it hasn't been the same. The service was very slow. The waitress never refilled our drinks and she wouldn't bring things to the table that we had requested like extra napkins. My favorite roll is the Chico and it hasn't tasted the same the last 2 times I have gone. It might be time to find a new favorite spot. read more

I just left from having dinner. My rolls did taste good., one didn't hold up too good and fell apart on every grab. I will say certain staff members need to be educated on how to handle dirty/clean dishes. I saw a young lady continuously go from grabbing dirty cups from inner and outer lip and turning around without washing her hands and pouring what out of the miso soup dispenser- !again grabbing the white to go cups from the lips"... and just to add she would clean tables and set up dirty dishes on that same place where she was pouring the soup just to turn around and reset tables grabbing the clean napkin/plates.. also grabbing what's suppose to be the clean menus and sitting people in one instance.. and to the clean cut guy/pen on his hears who coughed on his hand five feet away from the clean utensils station and grabbed sauce cups/napkins/sticks to set up a four top: you should know better because it seemed like you were either manager or owner! This place was great! They had so many things on the menu that sounded interesting and different than what other Japanese restaurants are making. I had a very difficult time choosing what to order because I wanted to try it all. We ordered tuna and crab Japanese tacos and they were so good that we ended up ordering an extra each to do it over again. Ha! Kylee was an excellent server. She moved so fast around all the tables outside and worked hard. She was kind and knowledgeable about the menu too. The busser was working hard too; keeping tables clean and dirty dishes cleared while dining. The only Cons from this place that I noticed was there is only one restroom and the door lock was broken. It opened right out into the main dining area so not exactly the most private. Luckily I was just washing my hands. Definitely check this place out and try the tacos! read more

Was pleasantly surprised in the quality of sushi and service at this restaurant. I would absolutely recommend the tacos. We tried both the spicy tuna and the crab and they were both excellent. The restaurant was over all very clean but the bathroom was in need of a deep cleaning. We did enjoy the nice peach scented soap. 4.5 stars! Good food, cheerful service at all times, decent prices- all make for a restaurant deserving of repeated visits. When I first went there a couple months ago, we were just looking for a sit down place to eat; this restaurant was one that had patio dining open. The reviews on Yelp were not encouraging and the pandemic was concerning. However, the restaurant has been following guidelines, with staff wearing masks, cleaning tables, and maintaining social distance / spacing out diners, all the times I've been there. The food is really good, fresh and delicious, reasonably priced. I just wish they had more vegetarian plate meal options or bento options- the only one so far is the curry bowl with tofu. They do have a couple veggie sushi rolls and a few veggie appetizers. read more

I'm a big fan of their takeout. The Japanese tacos are delicious and my daughter loves the sushi. As a vegetarian, I especially recommend this place. They have more options than your average Japanese restaurant, at least in my experience. The various tofu dishes are all very good and the tofu is usually nice and crispy. Nice people work here. This was always or "go to" Japanese restaurant and ee've been going here for a number of years. Rarely have we disappointed about anything. This last time (Friday dinner in November) was very not what we're used to here. It was very busy so understandably the service might be a bit slower however our service was totally unacceptable. From having to wait 10 minutes for the first contact with our server after the 4 of us were seated to having to wait 30 minutes for my sake to getting our dinner served first (at least 30 minutes after ordering) before finally getting our appetizers and some of the dishes were subpar and never got any water refils. Their menu has changed with most prices having gone up by maybe an average of 25-30% which before they were pretty reasonable now the prices might be slightly high with competitors. To me the new menu is not as easy to read however that may be because I'm so used and being very acquainted with their former menu. :-) FYI: in the past Sierra Pale Ale was only available here in bottles (reasonable $3) however now they've got it on tap for $5 instead of in bottles. We'll probably give them one more try but not on a Friday or Saturday night for fear of again getting terrible service when they're busy and we'll also start trying other local Japanese restaurants. read more

My family and I ordered online and went to pick it up. We got 4 bento's and a few apps. This was our first and last time ordering here. We shouldn't have to check our orders to make sure anything was left out, but of course I should have because they failed to pack our order correctly. Our teriyaki chicken and salmon were dry, the shumai was old and who cuts an inch & a half thick slice of eggplant for tempura. Needless to say, our dinner convo was everyone pointing out something bad about their meal. There are many other sushi spots that are better than this one, lesson learned. My girlfriend and I orders the Sashimi Plate, Maki Plate, chicken bento box, and a croquette on the side. Each plate came with choice of salad or Miso soup. We got two salads and a miso soup. For starters none of our salads had salad dressing. :( The chicken bento box had cold and hard chicken and had a weird taste of straight charcoal. The sashimi and maki were good, however the sashimi sliders were thinner than I had expected. It was our first time eating at the place. They were rather busy for lunch so it may have played a factor. Although I enjoyed the sashimi and maki, my gf, who doesn't eat sushi at all was highly displeased and ruined my meal lol. It's going to take a miracle for me to get my gf to accompany me to this place again. She told me she's never going back. She takes her chicken pretty seriously. read more
