Their miso soup has become a regular part of my weekly routine (and by weekly, I mean multiple times a week). The salad comes with a creamy ginger dressing that is ridiculously flavorful, and my partner is completely obsessed with the gyoza--especially the dipping sauce that sneaks in just the right amount of kick. Every hot dish we've ordered has been packed with flavor and arrives absolutely piping hot. The bento boxes, ginger steak bowl, and lo mein have all been consistently delicious. And the sushi? Fresh, generous, and stuffed to the brim. Honestly, the hardest part about Ichiban is convincing myself not to eat there several times a week. Save yourself the suspense--just go. I've been hearing nice things. Today l started slow & ordered a shrimp & vegetable Bento box. The tempura was not your traditional batter however I was impressed that the tempura stayed crispy. Everything was good except the miso soup was not to my liking & the two broccoli tempura were two big. The inside of the restaurant was immaculate & set up nicely. Finally the gentleman who I picked up my order from was extremely nice. I hope Ichiban is here to stay. Factoid : Ichiban in Japanese means number one. read more

Ichiban is a beautiful and lively new restaurant in the downtown Biddeford scene. The amazing food quality, price and service makes this Japanese restaurant worth a visit. The Atlantic sushi and chiken fried rice were the stand outs and we are looking forward to our next stop to explore the whole menue. read more

My partner and I came here for dinner and it was busy! This is great and the host was diligent. She let us know a wait time or we could eat at the bar. We decided to eat at the bar which doesn't bother us. The dragon bowl drink was good, nothing to shake a stick at other than the size. Our food came out a little later which was hot and tasty. The beef was well seasoned and so was the broth. The chicken katsu bowl was also tasty and my partner enjoyed it. There was good music and plenty of people who seemed satisfied. The reason I'm not giving a higher rating is because of a lack of intervention. There were 3 people ( 2 male presenting, and 1 female presenting) at the bar next to us. They were a little too drunk and began speaking very loudly about some inappropriate sexual topics/ fantasies about children. It truly made our night unpleasant which we acknowledge is not the restaurant's fault. However, multiple staff members had made faces at the conversation yet never stopped serving them or asked them to stop. Having comments about "she looked barely legal" followed by "not even sure if she was, but I'd totally hit again" while eating made me want to never come back. Especially since the bartender or any other staff who heard these comments did nothing. I hope that something in staff training changes so that no one else may experience this. read more

We had heard good things about Ichiban and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did! Michigan took over the old Dizzy Birds location and is a super addition to the expanding food scene in Biddeford. Everything we ordered was perfectly prepared. The fried items were light and didn't taste at all oily. The restaurant was really busy, but didn't sound too noisy. The decor is classic and neat. Our server was attentive and quick to take our orders. The kitchen filled our orders quickly too. We'll be back soon! read more

Food has always been great. Today we put in an order at 1:25pm to be picked up at 3pm after an appointment. My husband has an appointment at 4pm in Portland and needed to drop me off first at our home in Biddeford. We arrived a little late, at 3:08pm...we were told they needed 10 more minutes. It is now 3:21pm and we are still waiting...on an order placed almost 2 hours ago. My husband finally got the food at 3:24. They told my husband they forgot to tell the chef about our order during their lunch "rush" when we ordered at 1:25. They gave him a $15 gift certificate. Debating whether to eat here in the future, which is a shame considering their food is the best Asian food in Biddeford (in my opinion), definitely will never pre-order to be picked up later. I love that Japanese restaurants are popping up all over Biddeford and South Portland. Ichiban is a delight. We went for lunch and got the 12 piece sashimi lunch special. It comes with rice & miso soup. I added the salad. It was all fresh & delicious. The only thing I did not like was the octopus on the rice but my date happily gobbled it up. All this for about $20. I have gotten togo and have dined in the restaurant. Both times the food was delicious and served quickly. The restaurant is clean and staff was friendly. Only negative I experienced while there was my waitress wasn't very present and never checked in on me. It wasn't very busy and she appeared to be busy in the back or something. I had to go to front to request my check. Besides that, the food was wonderful and the space was clean and comfortable. I would definitely dine there again. Go check it out. I really wanted to like this place but the food is absolutely sub par. The sushi is by far the worst, even the rice was hard. The softshell crab roll was 80% lettuce and the baked scallop on top of one roll tasted hard and rubbery. The pad Thai tasted like syrup and the fried rice was dry and tasteless, tasted like it was day old and microwaved. The only redeeming quality is that the waitress was amazing, hustling to bartend and serve the entire restaurant while what appeared to be like the owners stood around doing not much of anything. Nice location and could be really good but need to get better cooks. Maybe because we went on a Monday night the main chefs were not there. Who knows. Would not go back. Advise, do one genre of food really well instead of three types, should have been a tip off when I saw sushi, Thai and Chinese food all one the menu. read more

Ordered take out for the 6 of us last evening. Took about 30 minutes . Fantastic food. Everyone really enjoyed their choice. The place was really busy, but had ample help. I wish the place as a bit larger. The food was not greasy and very tasty. No cons. Wonderful new restaurant for this area. Ichiban and Tai Me are my top choices. So very fresh and clean tasting. This restaurant has a few things to work out, but is good. The staff was very friendly, the order was ready when promised and most importantly the sushi was delicious. We were doing take out, but the online ordering was not working and we couldn't get through on the phone. The rice and noodle dishes were ok. Not a lot of vegetables or chicken in either and they both tasted identical. For those that were dining in there was a bar area and seating but some were still waiting outside. read more
