    Chicken katsu ramen
    Amy M.

My partner and I came here for dinner and it was busy! This is great and the host was diligent. She let us know a wait time or we could eat at the bar. We decided to eat at the bar which doesn't bother us. The dragon bowl drink was good, nothing to shake a stick at other than the size. Our food came out a little later which was hot and tasty. The beef was well seasoned and so was the broth. The chicken katsu bowl was also tasty and my partner enjoyed it. There was good music and plenty of people who seemed satisfied. The reason I'm not giving a higher rating is because of a lack of intervention. There were 3 people ( 2 male presenting, and 1 female presenting) at the bar next to us. They were a little too drunk and began speaking very loudly about some inappropriate sexual topics/ fantasies about children. It truly made our night unpleasant which we acknowledge is not the restaurant's fault. However, multiple staff members had made faces at the conversation yet never stopped serving them or asked them to stop. Having comments about "she looked barely legal" followed by "not even sure if she was, but I'd totally hit again" while eating made me want to never come back. Especially since the bartender or any other staff who heard these comments did nothing. I hope that something in staff training changes so that no one else may experience this.

We had heard good things about Ichiban and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did! Michigan took over the old Dizzy Birds location and is a super addition to the expanding food scene in Biddeford. Everything we ordered was perfectly prepared. The fried items were light and didn't taste at all oily. The restaurant was really busy, but didn't sound too noisy. The decor is classic and neat. Our server was attentive and quick to take our orders. The kitchen filled our orders quickly too. We'll be back soon!

12 piece Sashimi & Rice with an octopus topping

I love that Japanese restaurants are popping up all over Biddeford and South Portland. Ichiban is a delight. We went for lunch and got the 12 piece sashimi lunch special. It comes with rice & miso soup. I added the salad. It was all fresh & delicious. The only thing I did not like was the octopus on the rice but my date happily gobbled it up. All this for about $20. Great deal! I will be back often.

I have gotten togo and have dined in the restaurant. Both times the food was delicious and served quickly. The restaurant is clean and staff was friendly. Only negative I experienced while there was my waitress wasn't very present and never checked in on me. It wasn't very busy and she appeared to be busy in the back or something. I had to go to front to request my check. Besides that, the food was wonderful and the space was clean and comfortable. I would definitely dine there again. Go check it out. You won't be disappointed.

One of my favorite spots! The crab rangoon's are amazing. The sushi is top tier and the hibachi is as well! The staff are great and it's a great spot for lunch or dinner!

    Sashimi lunch special.

We came in for a little celebration with our daughter. We were greeted at the door and promptly sat, party of 8. We ordered our food and drinks, some alcoholic. Soon after, we noticed staff was starting to mop and clean the floors. After finishing our first round of drinks they cut us off 9:17, because they said they close at 9:30. No heads up. We also didn't get soup that was supposed to go with our meals because ' they weren't available ' !? Anyways, I suggested that if they have no intention on giving a good service, to just not seat people. It's disappointing to spend a lot of money in this economy for meh service. The waitress however was super nice and tried her hardest given the circumstances she was given by management.

I wanted to dine in, which was fine, though my food was still served in takeout containers. I ordered the "cauliflower pop" appetizer, tekka maki (tuna sushi), and tombo (a sushi roll containing cold albacore tuna, shiso, scallion, and ginger). The cauliflower app was fried and battered and covered in a sweet/spicy sauce very much like a General Tso sauce. Unfortunately I think what should have been a crispy texture was very soft and mushy, probably due to the sauce, and maybe how it was packed in a closed plastic container (despite it being served to a customer only a few feet away in the small dining room). The sushi was much better, both rolls being very tasty. The tombo roll had a particularly interesting and fresh taste to it. Yelp asks that a reviewer cover food, service, and ambiance. There was zero ambiance. Negative ambiance. I don't know what to say about that lol.

One of the biggest changes has been the complete turnover of the staff. All of the original people who made the place welcoming and enjoyable seem to be gone, and the difference has absolutely shown in both the service and overall experience. The food quality has become inconsistent and, at times, marginal compared to what originally brought us in. We've also dealt with repeated order mistakes, inattentive service, and an overall lack of attention to detail during several recent visits. Everyone understands that restaurants can have an off night, but this has become a pattern rather than an exception. What was especially disappointing was that we took the time to privately contact ownership about these concerns and never received any response at all. We weren't looking for compensation or special treatment, just acknowledgment and some indication that customer feedback mattered. Kume had a lot of promise when it first opened, which makes this frustrating to write. Unfortunately, based on our recent experiences, the quality control, consistency, and customer service are no longer close to where they once were.

The food was incredible, with really unique and complex flavors. That being said, the prices are honestly kind of insane for the portions. I understand quality sushi can be costly, but there are numerous sushi spots in Portland that are on par flavor and freshness wise that have more affordable rolls. Additionally, we got the coconut broth ramen for $19 which didn't seem like a bad price, as that's what ramen typically goes for, but when the bowl came out it was literally small enough to fit in our hand. It was truly some of the most interesting and flavorful ramen I have had, but for the price point on a dish with no meat in it, I wouldn't order again. The service also left something to be desired. The wait staff were all incredibly nice but they were talking loudly to eachother in a way that felt disruptive. They also never delivered small plates for my partner and I who were sharing everything or asked if we wanted a second round of drinks. All in all, if you have the money, I would definitely check this place out because the food was delicious and the environment was very cute, but otherwise I would skip. After 20% tip we spent roughly $120 and left feeling like we had just had a snack. 7/10 just because the food was so good and the wait staff was very nice.
