The owner is so lovely, she always remembers to ask about my daughters...even when during the pandemic it's just been me occasionally picking up and not all of us dining in. We did takeout again and it was great. The girls love their miso soup, Philadelphia maki roll, and Uptown maki roll. I went with a eel/avo maki roll and a fancier Out of Control maki roll (pictured). RUN!!!!!!! (Raw chicken, fake reviews, shady website) Just moved to the area, wanted Chinese food so we went with Koi Asian Cuisine. My girlfriend and I ordered delivery. First off the website is super shady, secondly the delivery was very slow, when we called to get an estimated delivery time after 40 minutes (the place is less than a mile away). The lady had to get the manager to give us an estimated and said she would call back. About 10-15 minutes go by and no call back, then they randomly showed and called to say they were outside. I had ordered delivery after working a long day at work and when the food arrived (over an hour late) it was soupy and it was nothing like described. I said oh well, and dug in anyways. First time trying this place. Ordered a variety of things to try. We had delivery which was a pleasant guy, very fast. We found General Tso and Chicken broccoli very tasty. The egg rolls were not too great, very greasy and mainly plain filling. The hot sour soup very good. We also had house lomein and house rice. Both very average yet kinda bland, not the fried rice you normally get. When ordering on line you get a free choice if spending over $55 and we ordered wings but received crab rangoons. Koi is a long-term establishment for Biddeford [right over the river that dives Biddeford from Saco]. If you were just to drive past Koi, I don't think you'd be blow away by the exterior. A yellow, paint peeling doesn't give off a very inviting feel. However, if you can get past that, you will enter and quickly be greeted and welcomed by their friendly staff. They have an interesting array of tables: your typical stand alone tables and sushi bar spot, but it's the booths that are a bit unique as you have to climb up and over the sides to climb down into the seating area. We ordered a combo plate to split, chefs choice, which came with eight pieces of sashimi and six sushi rolls. The fish was fresh and had good flavor over all, but I expected more our of Maine sushi. I couldn't say I could differentiate it from sushi/sashimi I order in North Carolina. Over all, the friendly staff didn't make up for the odd ambiance and OK food. I wouldn't rush back to Koi in the future, I would make a trip further into Portland and try something that will truly knock your socks off. read more

Nothing liked Japanese food, instead of just stirred fried "Chinese" food, the beef was over cooked and dried (as I asked for medium well) and the other dish was the same weird way. Two adults who worked there arrived at the same time I did and I quickly realized they were the only employees there. 2 children had been there alone and the older one took my drink order. I waited 10 or so minutes to be seen by the server (the mom). I asked if I could still do the lunch special since I got there before 4 and she said no. I ordered a Cali roll and Philly roll. They were cut larger than an inch thick, I couldn't even fit a whole one in my mouth. They threw them together so quick they were falling apart. No music or environment to speak of. Also-the crab was imitation which was concerning to me considering its in Maine and they had multiple specials featuring "fresh Maine lobster" and other seafood. I'll have to find a different place. This place is an awful mess in every possible way. We ordered from Koi's website at a very early time on New Years' Eve in order to give them plenty of time to make our order. What we received was (1) utterly underwhelming in every way (portions were small, it tasted bland and in some cases bad, was packaged lazily, etc.), (2) extremely late, (3) overpriced (and I'm used to ridiculous prices in D.C.!) and (4) incomplete to an embarrassing degree. When we contacted Koi regarding the missing parts of our order, they complained that we didn't give them a phone number (we did - the online form was correct, they transcribed by hand improperly) and then effectively told us to suck it up. We had to badger them to actually deliver the rest of the food. Certain members of my friend group had to wait a grand total of FIVE HOURS for food. Cheap Asian food isn't amazing anywhere, but Koi is now infamous amongst my group of friends. The sheer effort required on our part to get a simple order made was embarrassing. I like the food at Koi and the servers have always been reasonably friendly. But tonight while I was waiting to pay for my take out order, I'm standing at the counter waiting for someone and what do I see tucked on the shelf below? A list of reservations with a note in huge block letters by one of the names that says "FA**OT!" (asterisks are for Yelp's occasional filtering of profanity.) Um, excuse me? Management can feel free to explain it to me and I'll be glad to post it, in fact I promise I'll post it, but I'm not a big supporter of bigots and I'm really disappointed. And the fact that it wasn't hidden where no one could see it is even worse. So if some server decides that a member of my party is gay, do I really want that person handling our food? And how do they decide? The more I think about it, the creepier it gets. You're entitled to insult your customers but they're entitled to take their business somewhere else and I'm sure that nearby Hanabi (http://www.yelp.com/biz/hanabi-restaurant-saco) would welcome them. 5 stars for the food, which has always been excellent. But only 1 star for making me wonder who I'm supporting by ordering from Koi. Quick edit (12/30/13): After 4+ months, I have no desire to go back. To me, this means that I don't think the place is okay. Since 3 stars is defined by Yelp as A-OK, I can't give it more than two stars. The food was always good, but the idea of servers trying to decide which of my dining partners I'm sleeping with and then deciding if they approve of it is too much. Giving it two stars because it's been good maybe one out of the several times I've got it. Unfortunate cause they have the potential for sure, got the chicken with cashews, chicken lo mein, and edemame. The chicken was unbelievable chewy and mushy, rice was so dry it was not edible. I've tried this place several times, most of the time disappoints. Price is lower and they give you a ton of food, but if you're looking for quality I would go elsewhere. Customer service is excellent! I had ordered through GrubHub. They sent a driver, but the food wasn't ready so KOI asked GH if they could have a little bit more time. The driver didn't wanna wait so they left. KOI called Grubhub to see if they were going to send another driver. They said they would, but never did, and ended up canceling my order after waiting two hours. KOI called me directly to tell me the situation and to offer delivery directly through them at a lesser cost, so I thought this was very nice of them and excellent customer service! However, I hate to say this, but the food was terrible. Calamari was extra large rings, battered, fried, and it had a KOI special sauce with it. I'm very sorry KOI, but it taste aweful. I recommend getting normal size calamari and breading it rather than battering it, and providing either a marinara sauce or a lemon aïoli. I ordered chicken pad Thai and requested that it be a little sweet and a little spicy, but it came with absolutely no sugar and didn't have any spice at all. There was also no nut sauce on it either. It lacked flavor all together, and I will never order this again. I recommend cooking it the same way Bua Thai does in Old Orchard Beach. The cashew chicken was terrible. It was basically big clumps of batter deep fried with a tiny bit of dark meat chicken in it mixed with slimy zucchini, mushrooms, carrots, and a couple pieces of bok choy. I recommend making it the way Evergreen does in Portland on Western Avenue. I also ordered one piece of handmade sushi which was delicious! It had imitation crab, cucumber, avocado, cream cheese, and rice wrapped with seaweed. The only thing I'd do differently is I'd order the regular roll next time rather than the handmade, because the black seaweed wrap was kind of messy and it was a huge role, which is nice, but I prefer the smaller size. I'm bummed because I spent over $40 and most of this food is going to be thrown out. I had planned on eating from it for a few days as I just had foot surgery and can't be on my feet cooking, but its just that bad. I'm very sorry KOI. You have been very kind to me, but the recipes need some work. And I'm pretty sure you gave me the original order from 2 hrs earlier which was cold and not fresh at all so I feel like I paid for Grub Hubs mistake. :( read more

Recently bought a house locally and was looking to get my sashimi fix. Found Koi and I can honestly say the preparation and quality of their sashimi is impeccable - just as good as Nobu in Malibu at 30% of the price. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great taste and presentation. read more

The location of Koi is alright, there's plenty of parking. The interior is simple and clean, and they have this cool booth seating that places your legs inside (difficult to explain). The food is good, appetizers like crab rangoons aren't that great but entrees like fried rice, and pad thai are good. Their maki rolls like California roll, spicy tuna and salmon aren't the best. You can get 3 maki rolls (18 pcs) for the price of $9 that comes with soup and salad during their lunch special hours. If you are choosing maki rolls, I would stay away from their Philadelphia roll -- there's an excessive amount of cream cheese that overpowers the taste of the salmon. Their special rolls on the other hand are really good like the spicy girl roll. They also do free deliver for a minimum order of $15, and it's so convenient. It usually takes about an hour depending on what you order for it to arrive. If you really want to, you can order beverages from them and they'll also deliver them to you. I would order the Thai tea bubble tea. read more

Koi has the best tofu pad thai! I first had tofu pad thai in California and nothing ever compared to it until I started to get Koi! It is so yummy and this is the only place I will get it now. I have spent 100s of dollars at this restaurant and always enjoyed their food greatly. I ordered delivery last night (an 80 dollar order), & almost immediately received a call from a very rude lady saying if I complained about the order I would be banned from the restaurant. As a former restaurant manager, I was appalled that they would treat a regular customer this way. If this never happened they'd get 4 stars from me but because of this, 1 star & they have lost a customer. So good going guys. I ordered the sushi rolls and they packaged it on top of hot food and the rice was like mush. We ordered the spring rolls as an appetizer and they were nothing but cabbage and no other veggies.
