9 Years ago I found Greg and ICY AC when our heating / ac unit went out during a cold snap and to make a long story short, he saved the day (you can find my review in Yelp, December 2010). Anyway, Greg became a regular at our house ... twice a year every summer and winter to patch up our old system and get us through another season. Well, the old unit croaked for good so I asked Greg to put together a quote for replacement. He did and I did my due diligence and got 2 other quotes (fully intending upon using Greg). His quote was inline with the others except the others also tried to upsell everything from installing completely new ducting to moving the unit from our roof to the attic. Of course I went with Greg. Installation was fast and everything worked perfectly on start up. Greg is the best ... I cannot recommend him enough! read more

I have no one to blame but myself. I'm not very good when home appliance or car repairs. I look on Yelp because I'm not a fix it myself person and look to reviews for people to tell me the honest truth about service and value. So when all the review I read said Greg was great and his pricing was fair, etc etc, I decided to go with it. I had a really easy problem now that I think about it. My thermostat died, but my a/c was still working. Called Greg and was able to have an appointment within a week considering LA decided to finally have their first heatwave of the summer. Greg was super nice and professional. I really liked him. He confirmed that my thermostat was indeed dead and would just need replacing. $225 for a non-programmable one and $265 for a programmable one. He convinced me that I probably didn't need the programmable one if I was a person that like to override the a/c or put it on Auto. So I was happy, save me $40. He had the thermostats with him, installed it - which required unscrewing and connecting the wires, tested it, trained me on it all in a matter of 20 minutes. Bam, all fixed and ready to go. Then I'm looking at this little plastic contraption and I think, I wonder how much these thermostats are these days? I should have looked up this problem before he came, but that would defeat the purpose of this story. Love google, but it breaks my heart when it tells me info that I don't want to see. My standard thermostat would've ran around $50-70 at Loews. So, yes, I just spend about $170 on labor for a 20 minute install. And it seems if you know how to set up a dvd player, you certainly can switch out a thermostat. Yes, it is my own darn fault for not doing my research. I won't make the same mistake again when I switch my Honeywell thermostat to a Nest thermostat in a few months/years and install it myself. Greg's a nice guy, but I do feel a little ripped off and taken advantage (probably because I'm a woman and didn't know better). I know everyone has to make their money, but this was a super easy job and he took huge margins on the job and that just doesn't sit right with me. read more

Still have nothing but praise for this business. Opted not to spend the money to replace a very expensive part, so I had Icy Air fix a couple leaks in my evaporator coils instead. Gregg and his assistant were out at the scheduled time, finished within 2 hours, and again, charged me a very reasonable fee. He even took pix of the work so I could see exactly what they did! Greg at Icy is the man! After 4 dishonest AC companies gave us a catastrophic diagnosis of our unit, Greg had the AC up and running in one hour. He is honest and does great work. He told me everything that was happening as he fixed it and basically saved us from triple digit Burbank heat that we had been suffering through for 6 days. We experienced a heat wave and came to find out Saturday night that our A/C was not working. Not great when the inside temp is over 80* and you're 7 months pregnant. I called a few places today but the earliest that they would've gotten to check on the issue was 3 days! I called Icy Air and they were able to come in same day. My husband said that Greg was friendly and respectful. He kept him in the loop of what was going on. It was a quick and easy process and fairly priced. Hopefully we don't have to call again, but if we experience any other issues, I know who to call. read more

Our heater stopped working in the middle of all of the rain last week. We called Icy Air Conditioning the evening it stopped working, and Greg was able to come out the next morning. He quickly determined that the circuit board of our HVAC unit needed to be replaced. We didn't want to take the time to shop around, so we just let Greg proceed to fix it. He ordered the part, obtained it the following afternoon, and came back to our house around 7pm to install it, even though it was dark out and the evening before a holiday. With the new circuit board installed, the heater immediately started working perfectly again. Greg explained how the heater worked and even drew me a diagram. Total cost was $430 (after $20 savings from mentioning Yelp). Greg did a great job and exceeded all expectations in terms of service. Because we hadn't shopped around, though, I was curious as to his pricing. We asked Greg how old the circuit board was, and he gave us not only the date but the model and serial number. Armed with that information, we called around to 3 other companies to see how much they would have charged for the same job. One place said the circuit board alone would have been $400 (not including labor), the second place said total job including circuit board and labor would have been about $500, and the third place said that what we paid was a "good deal." Not only did Icy do a great job, but the price apparently can't be beat! Definitely will be using them for any future heating or a/c issues. read more

So glad I did my research on Yelp over the weekend. I needed someone to help fix our air conditioning unit (central air). I was so impressed with the reviews I read on Greg and Icy Air Conditioning that I called them this afternoon. I left a voice mail at 3:25 pm and within an hour and half...I received a call back from Greg. I expected to have to schedule an appointment sometime this week...but was very surprised to hear that he was available and could be at my place within half an hour. From the time I received a call back from Greg (at 4:51p) to the time he completed the job (at 5:53p) he kept me in the loop as to the diagnosis and the total cost of service/parts/repair. Our heater stopped working this weekend and naturally, since we live in Southern California and it was raining, this was cause for panic! We called Icy Air on Saturday morning and within a few hours, Greg came over to our house. Unfortunately, the problem couldn't be fixed because a part had to be ordered, but Greg got the part and had it installed by Monday afternoon. We were impressed with how quickly the job was done and with the inexpensive price- 225.00 for two visits and parts. We were very pleased with Greg and Icy Air. After doing my own research on Yelp, imagine my surprise when I learned that Greg was already contracted with my building and familiar with the layout and electrical connections of the units. He replaced a 2-ton piece of hardware on the roof and the unit in my house. After 25 years in place, the existing unit was rusted and locked into place, but both he and his assistant did a good job in pulling it out without damaging the surrounding walls. After installing the new units, replacing the copper piping and thermostat, he cheerfully explained the whole process to us and patiently answered any questions we had. On completing his work, he wiped down the walls and offered to vacuum the floors just to make sure there were no sharp objects or screws laying around that could harm our pet. His pricing was more than competitive and I would have no hesitation in requesting his assistance again or using him again on another project. All in all, a very pleasant experience. read more

Our central air crapped out on a weekend. I thought for sure no one would be able to come out -- or if they were able to, we'd pay through the nose for a weekend visit. But not only did Greg come out on a Saturday, he came out within an hour of my calling. He installed a new motor, cleaned the coils and explained every step to us along the way. He was friendly, he went out of his way to explain everything and it was actually a lot cheaper than I thought it would be (remember, I was expecting Weekend Pricing). We used to use Econo-Air -- never again (the upsell you get from those guys is so annoying I never want any of them back in my house again -- I already bought the unit, stop trying to shake me down!). Man, I dont even know where to start. This last week during the recent cold-snap in LA, our central heating / air unit brokedown. Not a good thing in an old house built in 1937 and my young twins. So what do you do??? Hit Yelp of course ... and there they are, Icy Air Conditioning. Great reviews, easy decision, so I make the call and leave a message. Greg from Icy Air called back and said they couldnt get there until 6 days later (they were slammed) ... well, I made an appointment to secure the date with the intention of seeing what other services were out there. So I'm prepared to wait 6 days and then it happened, that same evening around 8:00 pm, Greg called saying he was only a few miles away and was it OK if he came by. Are you KIDDING?!?!?!?! Someone in the service industry who understands service!?!?!? Yes! So Greg comes by, jumps on the roof in the dark night, finds the problem in 10 minutes. I needed a new motor but it would have to be ordered. He says "It will probably arrive Saturday, so I can come by Sunday to install it." SUNDAY?!?!?! Taking his own weekend to fix my heater ... and get this, NO EXTRA FEE. In the end, he came, installed the motor, fixed my heater, and the charge ... UNBELIEVABLY reasonable. Many repair people would've taken advantage of the situation to run up the repair fee "Let's see, cold snap, broken heater, freezing kids, late night service call, weekend repair ... my kid is now going to Harvard!" But not Icy Air. Use them. read more

My heating-a/c screen went blank. I searched Yelp, called Greg that evening and was scheduled for him to come between 1 and 3 the next day. He called at 12:45 to say he would be there soon and I appreciated his promptness. I have carpet and didn't even have to ask about shoes. He and his associate put on shoe covers before coming in and fixing the problem within less than an hour. He showed me how to change an air filter for the future and was very professional in his service. I would definitely recommend them. There was an $85 service charge to come out and I'm not sure how the rest of the items were billed but it's worth it to have someone show up within hours and take care of the problem asap. read more

Our AC is quite old and does not seem to work efficiently. We are contemplating whether to upgrade the system. So I called Greg for a maintenance job and his opinion. Greg is friendly and punctual for our scheduled appointment. After thoroughly checking the entire AC system, Greg recommended that we put in insulation in our attic (we had no insulation at all) before considering upgrading our old AC system. Since he does not deal with insulation, his recommendation would not make him extra money. This is why I decided to write a review here to recognize Greg for his professional work ethics. Air conditioning went out on a very hot Friday, called and got an appointment for Sat afternoon immediately. I was late coming back from a kids sporting event but he agreed to move the appointment back a few hours. Showed up on time and jumped right into the problem, explaining how he was troubleshooting each step of the way. He came to my home and assessed the situation and stated I needed a new condenser... but put in extra fluids in the meantime to see if that'll help the situation. Took my $300, and NEVER RETURNED ANY OF MY PHONE CALLS OR EMAILS after that, he said he'd get back to me with a quote on how much it'll cost to replace the condenser.... that's not right at all. He took $300 to repair the heat on my unit, but incorrectly installed the part, where it would trip the circuit breaker every time. He said he would come back to fix it, with a different part. He left, never came back. Called him up a few times, and he never calls me back to fix his error. I had to pay another $200 to bring out a different company, Bryant Heating and AC to fix the problem. Do yourself a favor do not call this guy, he is unreliable and doesnt have the courtesy to call you back or leave you in state where you can have the circuit breakers on. read more

I was at her place when Greg came over to repair it and he was the nicest guy ever. He found the problem right away and fixed it. I found this company on Yelp, and because of the reviews chose to have them out to work on my air. I am VERY unhappy with this company. I had Greg out to fix the air in my condo in June. He came out, fixed it (for nearly $1000). It stopped working a few weeks later, and Greg came out again. It stopped working within a few days. I have contacted him three times since (it's now three weeks later) and have NEVER heard back. So, still, the air is not working. I would NOT recommend him, does not do good work and does not provide customer service. Very irresponsible. read more
