Always love Ida Claire for their great food and service, although parking is always tough here! (Bonus points for their restaurant name sounding like "I Declare" .) Highly recommend making a reservation online or over the phone if you're visiting on a weekend because they're always busy. Be prepared to struggle finding close parking because they're always full. We had a lovely date night here just a few weeks ago. Parking was easy, the hostesses and wait-staff were all so friendly. We arrived before our reservation so we could cozy up to the bar for pre-dinner drinks. It was a fun and creative Cocktail menu and honestly made it hard for me to choose. Ida Claire has some of the best atmosphere and design of any restaurant I've ever been in. Not what I would normally start a review with, but the feel and decor of this place immediately jumps out at you. And yet, it's a very relaxing and soothing warmth inside. The detail all around is very eye-catching. Service is friendly, and wait times are sometimes non existent just before peak hours. You can waltz right to your table straight from the front door. The food is always good here. While, sure, like any place, the flavor of variant plates ranges from "just ok" to "unbelievable", there isn't a disappointing dish to be found. Came here for lunch with a friend as we wanted to try Southern American cuisine and we had a lovely time. The customer service was great and our waiter made sure to stay attentive. I setup a business lunch here a couple of weeks ago and the place was packed but thankfully we had reservations and were seated upon arrival. The shared parking lot out back was also convenient. Ida Claire was a great experience! We made reservations a few weeks in advance given that it would surely be busy on a Saturday. The restaurant has a decor is a little tough to characterize. It's somewhere at the intersection of kitschy downtown loft and southern farmhouse. The restaurant is mostly one very big open area, so at peak volume it felt like a large, communal space. It was very loud and the sound of the music was mostly drowned out. There were seven of us seated at a high top table. Typically I loathe high top tables, but these were comfortable. The waitress who took our order was so nice and patient with us. Being as we were a large group, it was sometimes hard for us to coordinate when to order, but she was an absolute pro and knew when to check up on us. The food was overall very good. We started out with some appetizers- Crawfish Beignets and Fried Green Tomatoes. WHOA...the fried green tomatoes were so amazing! I had never had fried green tomatoes, so I didn't really know what to expect. The breading and the spices were so delicious and the aioli was a perfect compliment. I highly recommend this dish and would come back specifically for this. For an entree I ordered another appetizer; the Hot Honey Sliders. These were drizzled in a hot honey glaze. There were many components to this dish, like the buttermilk ranch, green tomato chow chow and the potato buns that harmonized well. It was magic in the forest. Yes, it was incredibly sticky and messy...but worth it. For the finale, I ordered a slice of Key Lime Pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The pie was very tart and had a unique texture. The only aspect of this dish that I did not care for was the graham cracker crust- but I think others may find it appealing. It just tasted a bit robust and conflicted with the key lime filling in my opinion. Overall, I would easily come here again because the food was great. Incompetent reservation staff. They wanted to seat our two seats at a high top table with another group immediately adjacent to the kitchen. Since we wanted to talk and have a personal conversation sharing a table with strangers was not acceptable. Since we were a same sex pair and the other were a black couple it made me wonder if they were going out of their way to make all 4 of us feel unwelcome as I've never been seated at a table with another couple, let alone next to the kitchen with all that noise and traffic. Forget getting timely service before seeing a play at Watertower theatre because I had to wait 10 minutes to have that abysmal conversation. We left directly for the theatre. So much for grabbing some down home cooking 90 minutes before a show. Go anywhere else in the area if you are looking for a before show dinner as this place can't accommodate a 1hr seating on a walk in basis and has incognizant seating staff. It's basic food not a gourmet restaurant, there is no excuse for attitude or incompetent service. I have been to Ida Claire plenty of times in another city so this review is specifically for the Addison location (Dallas). It was pretty busy for a Saturday morning which is expected, so be sure to make a reservation if you want to be seated on time. They do have indoor and outdoor options. Wait staff was great at making recommendations for people in our party that were there for the first time. Also, the waiter was very patient with us as we decided what to eat and drink. As always, the food was outstanding. I love the southern take they have on common items, like the lobster beignets. I say, try anything on the menu and you won't be disappointed. We were given a 45 min wait and figured we would wait on the patio which was closed due to the rain. As we sat some servers came by and asked if we were waiting for a table we said yes but wouldn't mind a beverage. They took our beverage orders and then let us know they were reopening the patio to full service. The deal was struck, Al fresco dining in the post rain warmth of the evening. We placed our orders and three of us peeled off to get to know what the fates have in store for us. Tarot was a 10/10. We split into two smaller tables and the table I was at shared Crawfish beignets 10/10 Pimento Mac and cheese 9/10 could use more pimento but solid creaminess and cheesiness Seafood dip 5/10 this just wasn't my thing. I thought the seafood was not a prevalent flavor. Felt like a bowl of mayo. Fried green tomatoes 8/10 solid breading to tomato ratio. Not much seasoning but the salsa saved it! Gumbo 8/10 not auntie's but pretty good All in all we loved the apps. Entrees The waiter suggested several entrees and said the chicken and waffles was better than the fried chicken and I should've listened. I assumed they would prepare the chicken in a similar manner. I ordered the fried chicken and swapped the slaw for grits. Fired chicken 6/10 pretty dry. Not well seasoned. I doused it in hot sauce and my friend covered his in gravy. Grits 9/10. I would eat these grits for many meals. Chicken and waffles 9/10 this chicken had all the seasoning, juiciness, and flavor that was utterly devoid in the chicken plate. I wish I had just gotten this chicken and asked for grits instead of waffles. Ribs 9/10 I'm not really a ribs girl and I loved these ribs. Ultimately I ate way too much. We had STELLAR service. My order was the hurricane for a cocktail, too sweet for my liking, so it was only one cocktail for me. Thankfully, the lunch special made up for that! The jalapeño soup was creamy and had a great kick to it, I almost wanted to order another, but my side salad definitely filled me up! The creamy dressing and feta cheese was such a good combo with fresh greens, and the grilled chicken was spiced and not dry at all. This is still one of my top favorite salads. The second order was the classic chicken and waffles. The spice is in the gravy yall! Such a great compliment to the crispy chicken that was just as tender as my grilled chunks! Went here while exploring Addison restaurants with my wife. A Southern eatery that grows everything in house. Plenty of outdoor patio seating with live music on a Friday night. Perfect if the weather holds up. Jayda our waitress was fantastic and her recs were spot on. We got the crab cake and Ida's biscuits to start and we split a wood fired ribs. The biscuits were small, soft, and crunchy. They were my wife's highlight of the night. Bacon gravy (a little bit spicy), honey butter, and house apricot jam were all delicious. The crab cake surprised me. Well seasoned and a good size, they did not skimp on the crab. You can taste it. Topped with sprouts and with a nice sauce. Comparable to the ones I've had in Maryland tbh. They probably stood out to me the most. I'm so glad we split the ribs because we were so full by the end. We each got two ribs that were smoky, fall-off the bone, and with the right amount of fat and meat. Plenty good for the price. $20 for the ribs. $20 for the crab cake. $9 for the biscuits. I ordered the $22 flight of bloody marys. $26 shrimp and grits and $6.50 French press coffee. The tomatillo bloody was chunky like salsa, (I had to ask for a regular sized straw since they come with cocktail straws because the pulp plugged it up every single sip) the regular one was... well... The habanero pineapple one was just pure uncomfortable liquid fire. The strangest part is the mix was all there, the vodka was all there, but they were so watery... so so watery. Absolutely not the consistency of a Bloody Mary. The coffee was delicious. We also got biscuits that came with AMAZING bacon gravy, house strawberry jam, and butter. Apple butter would be a great option too, just throwing that out there. The shrimp and grits was good enough to eat way pst the point of being full. They're definitely gritty grits and the price point is a little out there considering 80% of the dish is made of one of the cheapest items known to man.
