The new superstore, combining their two smaller stores in the Treasure Valley, was a brilliant move. The site is huge with what I believe is the largest collection of fabric, threads, notions, and even more impressive, a huge array of sewing machines. What really makes it "super" is the Staff. Everyone is so friendly, helpful, and especially knowledgeable; Laura is a sewing treasure! They are hands-on with free classes with your machine purchase, and follow-up with questions and help afterwards. They also have a fun, comprehensive class calendar as well. This is my favorite shop in the Valley, in fact, I can't think of any where else that is so impressive. I'm so glad I found them and I love my new machine! read more

I went in today. I had no idea they sold fabric until recently when someone mentioned them on a social media post. It was so nice to walk into a shop that felt like a fabric store, not a collection of junk. I had called that shop at some previous point to get help with a vacuum. They didn't service my brand but the man was so nice...gave me pointers and I was able to get it working again. WHO DOES THAT? When I went in, thing were organized, clean, clearly marked and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and mannerly. That means a whole lot to me. I found beautiful options and some things on sale. I made all my kids clothes when they were little. Just starting to sew again after 25 years. What a blessing to find this place. Staff there should teach lessons on customer service. I bought a Janome M7 Continental machine from this business a few years ago--the most expensive machine I have ever owned. While it was still under warranty, I brought it to them for a new battery to power the clock and stitch memory. I was told it needed a new motherboard for the clock as well and they would order it. I called after what I thought was a reasonable time and was told, in no uncertain terms, that I was NOT to call them to ask about the progress. (I was told it was a supply chain problem!) They would call me when the part came! So I waited...for months. When I eventually lost patience, I called and was told the part was in. I asked when the part had arrived and why I had not gotten a call. They claimed they had called, and the part had been there for most of a month. I said I had received no call or message and asked for an explanation of who called and when. I got none. When we took the machine into the store, we were told (after many times asking) that Stuart himself had placed the purported call. When we asked again WHEN and why there hadn't been a followup, he just said it wasn't a big priority, as it was only the clock...and it had been busy at Christmas time. When we asked yet again, saying I hadn't received a call or message, he lost patience with my husband and said if he heard another word from him, we could take our machine and never return. My husband walked to the door, muttering "because you dropped the ball". Unfortunately, Stuart's hearing is better than his service, and he heard the comment. He wouldn't even give me the part I had waited for. Since then, all service to my machine has been done by the Janome dealer in Baker City, Oregon. In my opinion, the long drive is worth it to find someone who believes in service, and most importantly is reliable, trustworthy, and an all around nicer person to deal with. read more

In October 2021, I bought an M7 Continental sewing machine from Idaho Sewing. The next summer, the clock battery failed. We went there to ask for a replacement. First they said it was a hearing aid battery and to shop elsewhere. I insisted it was not. The owner came to explain the motherboard needed to be replaced. They'd order it. It was under warranty. I called on August 12 to ask if the parts were in. She said it was a supply chain problem and (in no uncertain terms) that I was NOT to call them again, they would call me. On January 20, I called again anyway. The man said yes, the parts had arrived. I asked why I hadn't been notified, and was told they had called and never heard back from me. I asked just when that call had been made. He said he didn't know without referring to the original order. On January 21, we took the machine in so they could install the part and service the machine. I asked the woman if she could find out just when the purported phone call had been made. She went to the back and out came the owner saying he had PERSONALLY made the call. When asked when, he replied "two or three months ago" and would not specify. My husband asked why there was no second call. He replied it was a busy time and in the scheme of things, a clock regulator was a minor issue, wasn't it? He was angry at being questioned and gave us an ultimatum of "one more word and you can take your machine elsewhere". As my husband opened the door to leave, he said "because you dropped the ball". Then he ordered us to find another dealer and get out, leaving me without service or support. When I checked my telephone call log, it showed only two calls--mine to them on August 12 and mine to them on January 20. There was NO call to my number from the shop--EVER. So he called the wrong number or didn't call at all. And now I'm left with an expensive machine that I can't get serviced unless I drive to Buhl! I'm upset at being treated so and feel left high and dry on service. read more

First let me say that my review was posted and I noticed it said I was in San Francisco?? Don't know why, don't know how to correct it, but did see the edit button. I'm in Eagle Idaho. They used to be great at the Overland location. I bought both of my machines there several years ago and took them there for service as well. This time I took both machines to the Meridian location since it was closer and had the same owners. My serger needed general service, plus the lightbulb needed replaceing. My Pfaff was in for service, and I asked that the needle threader be repaired since it never worked. I showed them where there was a crack in the little plastic piece I also asked them to repair the thread cutter which only worked about 10% of the time. So 90% of the time it required wrestling the piece you were working on from under the pressure foot, as it was really REALLY trapped by whatever was going on below. Once you got your fabric out the entire bobbin compartment to be taken apart to untangle and remove the thread. The machine goes into alarm until fixed, thank goodness. You may be saying to yourself, "well don't use the cutter dummy!", but two things. First, it was one of the reasons I'd upgraded my machine in the first place. That, along with the needle threader (old eyes make it hard to thread, but which has been broken more often than not) and the ability to do embroidery. Second, when you sew a lot, it gets to be habit. Backstitch, push the button, go on. OH NO!! Not again, so a good 20 minues futzing around before you can get back to work. They wrote it all down. Three weeks later I got to pick them up, excited to get back to work. Well, my serger's light was fixed, but the knob you use to select the type of stitch you wanted was missing. I called the Meridian store who said they didn't have it, and implying I'd done something with it. I called the overland store and asked for the owner, who had sold me both machines by the way, and used to be nice. She was rude as heck, said there would be no reason for them to remove the serger dial, and by the way it was her husband in meridian so I'd better watch myself. I packed up my machine, took it to meridian, and when I asked the person out front about my missing dial, a nice man from the back came out with it saying it was laying on someone's work bench. So, ok. Back home, I tried using my sewing machine and the threader had the same crack in the same place, so of course didn't work. Hauled that back down to the store, looked at the paperwork and saw it was written down, and replaced it instantly. Sweet. Except for the time it took (about 3 weeks), several trips (6 so far), paying quite a bit for work not done/not done correctly, the critical missing piece on my serger, being lied to, putting up with the rudeness and almost calling me a liar, all was well. I started a project and now my sewing machine squeaks every time the needle goes up or down. Not sure what the problem is, all I know is it doesn't sound healthy, it's super annoying, AND it's new since it was serviced. I'm about to call them and see how this goes. Wish me luck. To be as fair as possible, they have mountains of machines waiting for service or repair every time I'm in either location (many times over the years). SO, if you're mechanically inclined and can work on the computerized newer machines, looking for a clean job that challenges you mentally more than physically, good hours (that's a guess since I'm going by store days/hours open) you may want to see if they'd like an extra set of hands (maybe 2 or 3 sets between locations). That, or someone else needs to open a repair shop of their own. There is obviously a need. I'm into sewing clothing, the only person I know who does that, but this valley is quilt crazy!! Quilters are another story as their machines are big and heavy. For us who sew, not having your machine is like missing a hand...what can I say? I only wrote this review instead of letting it go is because there are no doubt going to be trips 7 and 8. When I googled to get their number I saw the 1 star review, read it, and it sounded like my experience. She isn't just being cranky, that is how it's going now, sad to say. Sewists are not a notoriously cranky, let's overthrow the nation lot. For 2 of us to make time to inform folks through Yelp there must be hundreds or thousands that feel this way too and should be taken seriously. I'm hoping this will be seen by the owners so they can realize how their customers are feeling, inspire new people to look into this field either to help Idaho Sewing and Vac or start your own business to help your sewing community. read more

I took my serger in for service. I was confused on threading and thought it was as good time for a service. I never had any issues with the needles however after almost 5 months waiting I was called and told that they could not find the part to fix it and that I was lucky because they weren't going to charge me anything. When I picked it up I was told that it would no longer hold a needle. I told them I wasn't having any issues with the needle and they said the first thing they always do is change the needle and when they tried to put in new needles the needles would not hold. They took zero responsibility and curtly said that I would have had the same problem next time I changed the needle. I now have a broken serger. read more

Over the weekend, our dear and beloved friend, Dyson, collapsed from exhaustion. We did what we could do to revive him but even with his head straight on he could not perform up to his exceptional standards. We emailed Dyson, hoping that we can get some assistance, but our email fell on deaf ears. A quick call on Monday morning got us a prompt service call to Idaho Sew and Vacuum. We dropped off our Dyson and no more than two days later, we received the call that he was completely repaired and ready to come home. Dyson was as excited as we were to be home but he was expertly taken care of at Idaho Sew and Vacuum. Dyson fired up right away and went to work on our carpets and floors. I thought this was just a sewing store until my vacuum started acting funny and I looked up repair places. So glad I picked them. Turns out my Bissel just needed a new belt. This is the only place in town I trust to service my sewing machine. I've been bringing my Singer machine here for service since I bought it eight years ago, and they have always done admirable work to get my machine up and running again. Typically, turnaround time is very fast. However, most recently, John and Tim informed me that they would have to order parts and it would be an extra two weeks. That time went by with no word, so I called and was told that the parts had been backordered and it would take an additional two weeks. My machine was with them from late March until today. I do understand, though, that this is due to the manufacturer and not Idaho Sewing & Vacuum. They did their best to get parts quickly. I'm only docking one star because I felt it was unprofessional of the service technician, John, to badmouth my Singer machine. When he called to inform me the machine was ready for pickup, he said it was an okay machine "for now" but I should consider upgrading to one of the brands that they sell. He then made remarks about the poor quality of Singer machines and that they "won't" carry them, though they do service Singers. Perhaps this was well-intentioned, but it didn't sit right with me. My faithful Singer may not be top-of-the-line, but it has served me well for dressmaking and costume work for eight years of frequent use. I don't intend to upgrade until it fully kicks the bucket. Just as I would find it unprofessional for a mechanic to tell me my Toyota is a badly made car and that's why it needs routine maintenance, I felt it wasn't professional for them to blame the brand for the fact that my machine needed routine service and a part replaced. Apart from this recent experience, though, Idaho Sewing & Vacuum has always been polite and professional, and performed well in repairing or servicing mine and my friends' sewing machines. I would recommend them for quality work. If your machine has any troubles, they will fix it and do it right the first time! read more

So I was told by Dyson that I Needed to have my vacuum repaired at a local dealer and this unfortunately was the only one in the valley. I was told by Tim that he might be able to get it done by Monday 3 days later if he had a motor or 10 days later if he had to order one. He did give me a loner after I asked for one. Unfortunately the loaner did not work very well at all.... A few weeks later we called and was told that until he had 150.00 worth of ordered he did not want to order our motor.. then a couple more weeks go buy and we have not heard anything, mind you some times we call and do not get a call back after a message and now come to find out we have to come pick the vacuum up and mail it ourselves to Dyson to have them repair it. Frustrating that I still had to be the one that made the call to find that out. After bringing this up to Tim he does not appear to really care. It is a bummer that this is the only location that can repair warranted Dyson considering I have purchased 7 in my lifetime and currently own and operate 4. I am going to recommend Dyson look elsewhere for warrantee work. Is good customer service really that hard. I mean just a phone call. read more

How AWESOME it is to have someone CARE about what they do, this is the case of Jon, and all the employees at Idaho Sewing and Vac, I have a 10 year old Pfaff, with just a few issue's,( leaving it was like loosing a limb) Jon takes great pride in his work, and it show's !! Meridian location: AWESOME! I am so happy I found this place and these people (this is a family owned company)! I am a complete beginner, and messed up my brand new sewing machine. I took it in, expecting to have to leave it (it would stop after just a few stitches). Rachel (daughter) took me and my machine in and started working on it right there. "First let's thread it and see if that was the problem...." Her mom, Stephanie, helped. They fired it up and....it was running perfectly. Turns out it was operator (ME) error....so they taught me how to correct the problem -- what I was likely doing wrong, how do do things right. I was in and out in 15 minutes. Great service and attitude, as well as knowledge. Oh, and it's a nice big store, with lots of sewing stations -- they do classes and projects, etc. Lots of supplies too. Since then I have taken advantage of the free introductory follow-up classes at both the Boise and Meridian locations. I am fairly new to sewing and Stephanie, Abigail, and Rachel have been extremely helpful. They provide a free monthly "Sit and Sew" in which you can bring your machine and work on a project with assistance as needed. Idaho Sewing and Vacuum Center is the best! They have extraordinary customer service and have won me as a customer over and over again. Many years ago I took my ailing sewing machine in to them - they quickly determined the problem and fixed it on the spot and, by the way, didn't charge me. When it came time to replace the machine, I knew Idaho Sewing and Vac was the place to go. I bought a new machine from them, have had it tuned up once and recently found myself in the middle of a sewing project with a sick sewing machine.
