At first I loved coming to this salon. It was right by work. They memorized my name. I felt like I had found "my spot". Not new but cozy. Then they started pressuring me for up charges. One day I caved and got a gel mani and it peeled within two days where it was supposed to last two weeks. I wish I went back and spoke to them about it but I decided to avoid and ignore. Also they pressured me with massage and wax more then normal Bc I think it's a little more personal then your average nail spot feels like a "family vibe". Overall they're clean and do a good job but just be direct about what you want don't let them push you esp If your going to be "a regular". read more

I really thought that half of these reviews had to be fake because there was no way that they could have such consistent ratings, but I'm proud to announce that it's real: You can have great conversation with friendly ladies and get an awesome manicure for only $10. All the time. I went in without an appointment and someone was there to do my nails immediately. There are only 3 stations for mani's and 3 for pedi's so not the best place to go with all of your girlfriends, but perfect for lunch or afterwork. Talking with these women were great- they asked genuine, meaningful questions and they actually care! We didn't talk about the weather or about celebrities- it was nice. I was in and out in about 45 minutes and couldn't have had a more pleasant experience. I'll definitely be back! read more

What a wonderful surprise! I made an appointment for a manicure (which is $10) for Tuesday afternoon and while the place is very small and cramped, the employees REALLY compensated for it! As soon as I came in, they addressed me by my name, which never happens. I thought this was really nice of them! I had Cindy give me a manicure, and she was so sweet! She held a conversation with me through the process and was very friendly, which I found pleasantly unusual for an Asian nail salon. Even when I was about to leave, they all (not just Cindy) said "Bye Tash!" Really cute :) Sure, it's certainly no luxury salon but I'm definitely coming back here for the service. read more

I haven't written a review in awhile (guilty...) but these ladies were so sweet that they definitely deserve a review asap! I called last night for a last minute manicure since the salon I tried to go to the day before forgot me to put me down and didn't have time for me (Salon Vollo on E.33rd Street). They said they closed at 8:00PM so I asked if I could come in 7:30PM. They were HONEST! They said they didn't know if they would be finished by 7:30PM so it come a little bit after that or to call. Most people just say yes and then make you wait for 30+ minutes. Already, their customer service was on point. I unfortunately didn't call them beforehand so when I got there, they said they wouldn't be done 'till 8:30PM-- not your usual "oh just wait 5 minutes, 5 minutes". I didn't mind because they were so nice. Plus, I live a few blocks away so I just went back home and came back when they were ready. When I came back, while I was picking out my polish and the other customers were paying, I noticed this awesome rapport that the nail technicians had with their clients. It as very personable and unlike any I've seen before at a hair/nail/any salon or even at restaurants/bars. As I was getting my nails done, which at this point is past closing time, the other customer in the salon kept talking to them like they're practically best friends and like she's known them forever, which I think she has. I also noticed all the family photos in the background, which I asked about. They're all photos from their clients. How cute! Aside from the customer service, these ladies know how to do nails! I don't get my nails done often but when I do, there's always something that's not completely satisfactory about them. They pay attention to little details such as the bowl you put your hand in has a hand rest. They don't criticize your nails while doing them but encourage positively to take better care of them (I bite mine-- they asked when I was a kid if my mom put "spicy" on them so I wouldn't bite them. Being Asian, I feel like that is such an Asian thing to do. Funny!). They work diligently to ensure they're perfect and that you're satisfied. They put on a quick dry top coat and While I was getting my nails dried, they even offered to share some food with me, which was really sweet considering I don't think they even had lunch that day from being so busy. These ladies live all the way out in Flushing Queens so it takes them over an hour to get home. Yet they like to work in Manhattan because of their clients. They stay way past 8:00PM often (I left at 9:30PM) and have been working there for 10+ years. That's dedication. Tip them well! They deserve it just like your nails deserve them. Note: The outside says IV nails (I think) not Idea nails. It's a very small place so you might miss it. Update: 4 days later and my nails are still going strong! No chips at all! I usually chip my nails within 3 days so anything after is impressive. I've also picked at my nails a little too and still no chips. Woo! This place is definitely as good as it gets. I'm going to try a gel manicure here another time. read more

I tried this place weekly for several months until the lack of cleanliness became too revolting. They hand wash towels in the same sink in which everyone washes her hands and they wash their dishes, and then reuse them in clients. The floors are dirty as is the bathroom. It was giving me chills to just walk in there. Cindy was surly one day and overly friendly the next. Sue was bossy. They work long hours for little money. There's little heat in winter, and it's hot in summer. Altogether a waste of time. read more

Absolutely, hands down, the best. I've been meaning to write this for over a year. I wound up here after finally giving up on another UES salon where the prices were right, and the salon was clean but the owner/shop keeper had such a terrible attitude that I had to walk out. I decided to walk into Idea (now IV nails) on a whim and couldn't have been more impressed. Immediately, Cindy and Sue had asked my name and were helping me pick colors (WHAT!? when does that EVER happen?). In the course of doing a BEAUTIFUL job, where I had no worry about cleanliness, these women made me feel so incredibly comfortable and at home that I knew there was no way I could go anywhere else. Cindy, Fong and Sue really care about their clients, even popping outside of the shop if they see one walking by just to say hello. I LOVE this nail salon. I just discovered this gem last month. The salon is small but the service makes up for the cramped space. The ladies that work here are all genuinely nice. They will talk with you and make a true effort to get to know you, and your name. My second time back they knew me by name, and were again, SO friendly. They do an amazing manicure as well. My manicures will last a week or longer. They take their time with cutting your cuticles as well. Make sure to put your nails under the 'heat lamp' twice, when you're done they will be 90% dry. will not go anywhere else, this is my new spot, a true hidden gem! read more

I came to this about three times over my last 6 months living in NYC. I definitely recommend booking at appointment bc they only have a few spots. The three women are always very friendly and just a little pushy about getting more services, as kind of expected. It's a no-fluff kind of place. Perfect for getting a nice, simple mani pedi in. For what it is, definitely 5 stars. Wish I had found them sooner! From my first visit I was happy with the job. I got a simple gel mani and it lasted with no chips at least 8 days, if not more. Pretty good considering I work with my hands and was traveling a lot. Sue remembered me when I returned and asked how my interview had gone, the reason I was getting my nails done the first time. My last visit, I went with my boyfriend (his first time getting a mani or pedi) for his sister's wedding. We both got a mani pedi. I got regular polish, he got nothing. He was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable mani pedis are. They convinced my bf to get his eyebrows done (also his first time, he was going all out). They came out really nice! Love this salon; they really know their stuff and they don't nickel and dime you. I asked for a toe nail polish color change. What I got was an express pedicure. She cut my cuticles and cleaned up my toes. It looks like a full fresh pedicure! $15? Best $15 I've spent all day. Their attention to detail and pride in their work is obvious. A small unassuming nail salon, you would probably walk by and not even notice. i happened upon it after moving to the area looking for a new dry cleaner's, and i'll never go anywhere else! the ladies who work there are as nice as can be, remember my name and smile whenever i come in. Everyone in the small no frills salon chats. it's like a neighborhood barber shop, except for women in midtown. I stopped in the other day, knowing I only had 15 min for a manicure bc i had to catch a train. i let them know i was in a rush, and i had a gorgeous manicure in exactly 15 min, which btw is still in great shape one week later. and my manicures at other salons would start chipping in 3-4 days, for some reason they last so much longer here! read more

Stopped by here on the evening of a snow storm and called ahead to make sure there would be time for a manicure and pedicure (since other reviews mentioned they were tiny). They kindly waited for my arrival and promptly took my coat and things to make sure I could relax as soon as possible. While I normally am a mind-my-own-business and read at the nail salon type person, the women here politely engage you in conversation, which ended up being an escape in itself from the rudeness of NYC. The women knew the three other girls that walked in by name, even after not seeing them for weeks. I'm impressed at the reasonable prices and quality of manicure- definitely small inside so don't bring five girlfriends at once, but IDEA provides intimate service that I've never experienced in this city before. Several days later and my manicure and pedicure still look brand new and I even have a located restaurant recommendation to try this week for dinner. Since I'm a locale now, I might try to come on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when they have a manicure/pedicure special for $26! Keep up the great work ladies - I will be back very soon. read more
