We've eaten here several times and always love it. My personal fav is the shrimp tacos, but have yet to find anything on the menu that isn't good. The last time we went there was an issue with our drinks and server and we didn't get anything after waiting for nearly 30 minutes. Today July 31st, 2020, my daughter and I ate at Iguana Joe's at the corner of Beltway 8 and Wallisville. I was very happy with the waitress service, but I can't say the same thing about the cooks and the manager on duty. We ask for trio fajitas, 2 single orders which are 20.00 each. My daughter's grill plate had a big pile of onions and just a few fajitas on top, and the piña colada's didn't even have any liquor in it, we asked for a second piña colada and it was served with liquor that's when I realized that the first two drinks didn't have any. I told the manager about the fajitas and he didn't want to do anything about it until I said you either bring more fajitas to the table or take off one plate off the ticket. He went back and he said the cook said he didn't measure the fajitas correctly so he brought some more fajitas. I was very disappointed and upset. And that has nothing to do with the COVID-19 pandemic, we still expect the right food, the right amount and the right ingredients in our order. And because of the bad economy, stores should be more careful and excel in customers service, because they need to keep customers happy to keep money going in, especially when customers are right. read more

I love this place. True story, I've known about Iguana Joe's ever since I was in high school in this area in the 90's. It was located on the corner of Normandy and Woodforest. We only started trying the place out about 2 years ago. I hope the food wasn't always this good, because MAN that would've been a waste. I had the fajita enchiladas. They were good but not any better than the one's they serve at the mexican restaurant that's two minutes from my house. A few dollars overpriced too. The building is relatively new so it looks nice inside and out. I'm more into authentic messican food than this tex-mex stuff. So, this place moved from Woodforest and finally scored a bigger establishment last year or year before (or year before?!) off the Beltway and Wallisville. (I can't remember when exactly because I moved away from the east side before they moved.) This place is a lot bigger than the old one and because of the location, prices have gone up just a little. I've dined at the new one about 4 or 5 times and ordered to-go twice. One to-go incident was pretty bad, but I blame that on the youngsters taking care of my order. Other than that, I've never had a problem and the food has always been great. [The old place] had become a weekly outing with my family for years and even now my parents go to Joe's at least every other week. I miss the tradition, but I'm happy for the restaurant and the move. I only hope service and food stays the same as I occasionally manage to make it back to the east side. Ok, food. Just about the only thing we ordered back in the day was fajitas for two because it fed all 5 of us. That and all the beans and rice and extra goodies like guacamole and pico. And, not to mention, the onions and bell peppers that get brought out on the hot plate with the fajitas. I love 'em 'cuz they're not cooked too long. I can't remember exactly how the salsa tastes, but I don't recall it ever being too spicy and I don't remember ever passing it up either, haha. Over the years I've also had the tamales and enchiladas. Typical, not like wow, but good. Rice is always good, but sometimes gets served a little cold waiting on the other food to cook. Poor customer service. I had to wait for everything, even water, then I had to wait for my check for 10 min and then once I gave the waiter my card I had to wait another 10 minutes to get it back, I was in a bit of a hurry and ended up being late for my appointment because the waiter took 20 min to close out my check. The food was okay, there are many other places in Houston with better tex-mex and way better customer service. I was looking at their list of sauces and asked if I could sample one of them and the waiter told me I could but it would cost extra. Every time he came back to the table in a rush he said "Sorry got stuck in traffic!" He seemed pretty preoccupied and maybe overwhelmed, maybe we was new, but definitely needs better training. This was my only experience and probably my last at Iguana Joe's with so many great Tex-Mex options in Houston. read more

Love coming here for some good Tex-Mex food. Downside is they do hire a lot of young kids who some care more about what their friends are doing rather than being sure their table is good.. luckily when I went Sunday my waiter was great.. it can be a hit or miss with service for that reason but the good food is what keeps me coming back. read more

Ok and cheap. I like the green sauce and most of time just go there for Tostados. By the time I get two Tostados have some chips n sauce and maybe a 2 oz queso , I'm full and satisfied. Including an iced tea I get out at about $8. I have also had their appetizer s the lizard wings(chicken wings) bare and flavored , which are good. And the Changito's which are kind of like a fried burrito with chicken fajitas n white cheese melted in them. These r very good. This order can be shared by two for sure. If you have GI problems, beware they are rich and greasy and can cause problems later. read more

I hadn't heard much about Iguana Joe's but I believe if you combine quality and price, you have some of the best Mexican food in all of Houston. I haven't eaten here, but have ordered take out on various occasions. The food is consistently great and satisfying. If you've never been here before, I'd recommend the Burrito Con Queso (Combo meat) or the Fish tacos. Both are extremely delicious and I tend to switch between these two meals. When we lived in Houston 15 years ago we would frequent Iguana Joes. This location is new and happens to be on our way to Austin as we travel. Even with it being a different location, it still brings back great memories from days past. The food is just as good, the service fast, wait staff friendly, and clean as I remember. The service is always great, the food is a gamble; sometimes it's fresh & tasty & other times it's a bit lacking in both. Functioning high chairs are a huge thing for me because my little 1 wants to stand up & try to get out of them, I've had to ask for a better high chair with an actual buckle in it several times, many were broken & most were sticky & needed to be cleaned. Inside dining is great but outside dining is hot & depending on where you sit the abundant amount of fans are aimed on 1 spot that will blow stuff off table and make you miserable. We moved away four years ago but would always pop in if we were passing through. We noticed changes in the food over the past 2 - 3 years. Chips got better. Queso now tastes powdery. Salsa is still delicious. Green sauce has changed but I can't put my finger on what the difference is. It's still good, just not as good as it was. They still have the best cheese enchiladas I ever ate. Our last visit was Monday and we had lunch around 1:00. Service was kinda slow. It took a long time to get those enchiladas and two chicken taquitos. Also, the prices have really gone up. Each time we go I get more and more disappointed.
