Taco Salad with ground beef - I eat this with their jalapeño ranch dressing!
    Kristin P.

I would say this is more of a 3.5 review vs a 4 and that is honestly only due to the service. We normally go to the El Toro off Garth, but were closer to this one today for lunch so we decided to go! This El Toro is right next to Exxon, so if you plan on going for lunch, plan to wait ... not for a table, but for a waitress and food ... which is what we did. We waited about 10-15 minutes for a drink order and overall we're there for over an hour for a meal that should have taken 30 minutes. Overall, the food was excellent, as always! I got a taco salad and my husband got the special which was ribeye chicharron ... both were great! Point being is that El Toro's food is great! If you go to this location during lunch, know what you want before you get there and/or plan to wait!

It smelled so good outside that we decided to give it a try. The salsa was like Pace but more bland and also served with a watery green sauce. My taco tasted strange. I'm not sure what they seasoned the meat with but it tasted off. The tostada was good though! Couldn't finish the taco. My husband's fajita salad was good. Nothing outstanding but it was good. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. Free ice cream. I don't think I'll be back though. I'm not sure why it's so crowded here.

Really good authentic Mexican food. We got invited by someone who knows what good food tastes like. Starting from chips and salsas ( creamy green and red spicy) and appetizer to dessert, everything was so good. Service was exceptionally good and professional. Manager came up to check on us and we asked him if they have been considered to open another location in Austin or Round Rock. They would definitely gain their clientele very fast. Can't add more pics, unfortunately my battery died.

Rice is good. Everything else was poor to nearly inedible.

We tried El Toro and we're not impressed. Food lacked flavor and was overpriced. Service was decent.

I like the food at El Toro. The service has been good too, but I do tend to eat at off hours.

Best Tex Mex I've ever had. Perfect if your looking for an outdoor place to eat. Tacos al carbon are really good.

We waited in the outdoor patio area where there was plenty of seating and room for many to talk and wait comfortably. In spite of that, our wait time wasn't long. The beautiful decor and lay out allowed for spacious seating and allowed for conversation in spite of the large number of people. The service was friendly, timely, and consistent. The food was correct, warm, beautifully displayed, and delicious. Any additional requirements were brought in a timely and congenial manner. We were treated as if we were the only ones there even though the restaurant was full and busy. We were not rushed either. This was my first time there under the new name and menu, but my friends go there often. It's their new favorite place. My son and I agreed that we would visit often, too.

My very picky husband ordered his usual at any Mexican restaurant, a Chimichanga and he really enjoyed it. I went with the Julia special which was tasty, however, upon inspecting my shrimp one was not cleaned thoroughly which kind of grossed me out and reminded me why I don't often order shrimp at restaurants. Our waitress was very sweet and the music was great so overall it was a good vibe. I'm sure we will be back, but next time no shrimp for me.

Been wanting to check it out…read morefor some good barbacoa for quite some time and finally made it out on a busy Sunday morning. Located right in the middle of a neighborhood in a very small strip center. Parking is scarce. You walk in get in line and place your order for the barbacoa. They give you a number and they are pretty quick to get it. I really didn't know how things flowed here so I took my time and got some pan dulce which you are able to pick out yourself and put it on a pan with tongs. There are a ton of selections which included Conchas, pineapple upside cake, and cream cheese strawberry filled pastries. I asked about what came with the barbacoa and was surprised that only a half container of red salsa comes with it. Corn tortillas and cilantro/onion were extra?? Oh well lol. I didn't get a chance to glance the menu but did see beef tongue (lengua) and tripas were visibly being packed for others. Said and done paid $14.99 a pound for barbacoa and $36 for 3 bag fulls of pan dulce and extra hot green salsa and cilantro/onion. My only gripes were that the barbacoa was a bit greasy and the typical included things like tortillas and onion/cilantro were not included in the price. Overall one of the better places in town to get some fresh barbacoa and Mexican pastries! Definitely will be back!

I Ordered the barbacoa taco and it was delicious. Not fatty or greasy at all. The hot salsa was delicious. I also had the chicharrón and egg taco but I didn't care for it. They have a great variety of items to choose from as well as baked Mexican sweet breads and a meat market all in one establishment. I would come here again. They only have about 3-4 tables where you can dine. You order at the counter and they bring your food out. They have cold drinks and hot coffee. If you're in a hurry and want something quick, this is the place.

But the ambiance, service, and quality are worth a stop Some tips: The interior temperature was fairly cold, and I run hot. At $13 it was a real deal but the meat portion was smaller than the more expensive dinner option along with only getting 2 tortillas. Finally the table service was very good too. I liked my visit to Don Pepe's and would be happy to return.
