I haven't been to an iHOP in many years. Many. Maybe 20+. My expectations were low to none, but i was lured in by "pancake day" and ordered my free stack plus bacon and an egg, over-easy. Coffee, of course. I was blown away by the super rapid service, despite the crowd. I was seated within 5 minutes, despite a lineup, my order was taken immediately, and it arrived in less than five minutes. Wow! The team of ihop was friendly and competent. So, I've had better meals, but not for the price and not as quickly. The cakes were surprisingly fluffy and nice. The bacon and egg were just as I like them. The egg over easy was not ruptured or over cooked. The coffee was decent. Not coffee house great, but not some nasty or watery thing, either - and they bring a pot of it off the bat. So, I'm adding ihop to my list of quick semi-slumming decent choices when in this part of town, especially if I'm in a hurry. You should too! read more

Well it has been a while since I visited the ol IHop in downtown San Jose. I used to eat here throughout my childhood, while a teenager and as an adult as I grew up. My recollection of IHop was always fond memories of a busy crowded restaurant with the wafting smell of pancakes and bacon in the air. I would frequent IHop for their quality of food and consistency of their ample servings and great tasting buttermilk pancakes. Well things have changed. I do not like to write negative reviews so don't get me wrong the staff was accommodating and the food tasty yet I had to write a review as the world has changed overnight since the pandemic and restaurants are cutting back. I do not want to complain, so I am writing to comment on how the food is now. At first glance the menu was pricey and the portions are minimal. It appears that corporate headquarters put out the we need to cut back memo and hopefully customers will not care. Well I care, I would much rather enjoy an overpriced breakfast somewhere that has generous portions and appreciates the revenue. I do not want to be critical yet even my father said it, and he is a senior and was a bit disappointed. He said it himself, he remembered the buttermilk pancakes being MUCH larger and rich with buttery flavor. I don't have much to say other than I hope that all restaurants take note that consumers are more shrewd and do care about quality and portions for the value of their money. And yes those are my father's pancakes set aside and falling off his plate because he wanted to inspect them and simply pushed them aside in disbelief. read more

I've been here a couple of times in the middle of the night (between the hours of 1-3AM) and it's always been average, nothing special in particular. The only reason why I rate this a 4-star is because it is open so late compared to all the other food places around SCU. The food options open around this late are essential either Jack in the Box, Denny's or here. I have never experienced bad service here. The waiters are always friendly and nice. They never fail to refill drinks. The food presentation could use a bit of work. You get what you order and it's placed on an oversized plate in my opinion. My favorite dish to order is the Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity. It is delicious! Also, they are willing to split the check (by order or number of people) so it is convenient if you come in large groups. There's a charm to this IHOP. I drive past this location 5 times a week, and I have always been keen to visit. This morning was the day. After taking my car to a local mechanic, I wanted to stop in somewhere to grab a coffee & possibly breakfast. And recalled IHOP being a couple of blocks over. It was a perfect choice. The quaint, small-town feel, without all the sleek modern touch most establishments aim to make. The coziness immediately relaxes your senses. The food and service were also excellent. Great establishment, and I can't wait to go back to try some of the holiday items from the menu. read more

I've been here a couple of times and this IHOP is better in terms of service when compared to the one near Great America. There are long waits for this place though. I waited for about 15-20 minutes to get a table. I think this place is a little bit smaller than the other IHOP near Great America. The parking lot is horrible because it's super small and hard to find parking. Don't be surprised if you find yourself leaving the parking lot and driving around the block to try again in hopes that somebody will leave between the time you leave the parking lot and come back in. The Colorado Omelette tastes a little better here than the other IHOP location and I think it's 2 cents cheaper (10.97), too. What's good about this location is that they have Cholula Hot Sauce, which I think is better than Tabasco Pepper Sauce. The pancakes are good but don't overestimate the size of them. They may look small but once you eat around 4 or so, you'll be full. This location doesn't open 24 hours like the other IHOP. I think they're open 24 hours on Fridays to Sundays then the rest of the days, they open till 10 or 11pm. I forget which one it is. read more

I've had so many great memories at this IHOP. It's just a solid and convenient location, perfect for late night munchiez. Cons: the parking lot is small and it's a one-way street so if there's no parking then lol godspeed my friend. I've personally never had a problem with parking, but I go at weird hours instead of at busy times. The service can sometimes also be slow, but since it's a small location they're pretty good about checking in with everyone. Okay, for chain breakfast restaurant quality food, this place isn't the worst. Lmfao my boyfriend and I actually love coming here because they have so many combo choices and you can pretty much get everything you want while being filled up. 3/4/17: Gf is out of town, and I'm all alone... Paradise!!! You know, she actually kinda likes the concept of the American breakfast, and God knows how many trendy/hip/fancy-schmancy brunch places we've been to. But commoner food!?!?.... never. Okay, it's a fact--most fancy breakfasts SUCK. They really do. Yeah, there's the farm-to-table crap. There's all the fancy grains and crazy preparations. Like some pink and lavender flowers on your pancakes?--sure. What was that?--compound butter with truffle salt and foie gras drippings!!?... YUCK. I'm telling you, waffles from IHOP puts 90% of those places to SHAME. What I got for $10.99... 1. Sticky Bun Waffle "two thick Belgian waffle triangles, drizzled with sweet maple glaze & topped with honey-glazed pecans": At first I was a bit disappointed since compared to the photos in the menu this plate looked a bit plain. Just two waffle pieces with whipped cream, and sauce drizzled over the little bits of nuts. But, then I sunk my fork into it, and the surface cracked... just a tiny little snap sound, but I was instantly intrigued. And slowly the fork slid through with just the right amount of effort, and I knew before even taking a bite this waffle would be sublime! Of the dozens of famous or fancy waffles I've had, I haven't been ever so impressed in recent memory. As mentioned, the surface was that perfect crispness, and the insides were so moist and succulent. The "sticky bun" part, which really just amounts to that ultra-thick tar-consistency goo, may not be your thing though. It's like super ultra concentrated melted sugar. Well, it did work for me. I'd give the waffles themselves 10, but I think there's room for improvement as a dish, so 9/10 2. Ultimate Bacon & Sausage Combo "3 strips crispy bacon, 3 pork sausage links, 2 eggs and golden hash browns": And this would be the rest of the meal. Alas, IHOP's humble origins most show here. The bacon is really crappy--think McDonald's micro-thin bacon. The has browns were pretty bad too--the bottom was extra hard, and the middle was mush. At least the eggs were fried perfectly, and the unusually skinny sausage links were delicious. My S.O. and I dined-in for weekend brunch and all was good when we were there; we were quickly seated, service was great; food was great... all until my S.O. got FOOD POISONING. Let's just say it came out both ends for 10 hours. That evening, I called iHop to report food poisoning to ensure management took appropriate measures to ensure food safety. The supervisor on swing shift appeared frazzled and stated that she wasn't a manager but took down my name and phone number for a manager to call me the following day. A manager (Ricardo) called me around 3pm the following day and was absolutely horrible with me over the phone. He had claimed no one else had called to report food poisoning and that there had to be at least 2 complaints prior to reporting the matter to the health department. He also stated that it usually took 24 hours for symptoms to appear and suggested it was something my S.O. had eaten previously before dining at iHop; I then had to school him about the different types of bacteria and viruses that cause food poisoning and their incubation periods (not duration) because iHop had taught him nothing. I appreciated that he offered to take care of us next time we dined but why the f**k would we come back? I was so disappointed about how Ricardo handled my call; he was so defensive and took no accountability whatsoever. I really don't believe this location takes food safety seriously - he could have said they'd look into the matter or speak to staff or something to that effect but he didn't and it reflects so poorly on management. I will never be dining here again and will not be recommending this place to friends and family. read more

Placed an order through doordash this morning and was missing 2 of my 3 items from this location. My son was not very happy so i placed a redelivery. The BLT sandwich was a joke. It was the thinnest bread i had ever seen and the sandwich kept breaking apart. There wasn't much inside the sandwich neither. I've ordered BLT's from this location before and they're huge. This place is a dump. When you enter, you will notice it's in dire need of a deep clean. Your are immediately hit with the musty smell of the stale, filth soaked carpet which clearly, has not been cleaned in years. Now, I know I shouldn't expect a Michelin Star restaurant when eating at IHOP. I get that. But I'm here for work and was craving breakfast, and figured ihop is usually an economical step above Denny's. Not so in this case. I ordered a breakfast sampler, in which the eggs (whites AND yolks) were barely cooked, the bacon, ham, and sausage too salty, and the hash browns extremely stale. From the looks, feel, taste and shape of the hash browns, it's apparent they make them by the sheet and cut squares off of them all day long. The coffee, at almost $4 is a robbery, especially when it's cheap stale ground coffee sitting in a heated percolator all day. At that price, go get some gourmet shit somewhere else! $17 dollars for an undercooked breakfast I'm hoping won't make me sick and a coffee that was little more than soot from this filthy restaurant dissolved in hot water. I ordered Cinnamon dippers from this location and they ended up mixing the sugar and salt when making them and made all of them using salt instead of sugar/cinnamon. After biting into them I realized that something was really wrong and to confirm I tasted another one from the bowl and it had the same fowl taste compared to my brother's who ordered the same thing in which his were made properly. My throat had a mild pain throughout the day after having too much salt from the dippers. There was also a random stranded onion ring that didn't look like it was made well in my side of fries, my brother didn't get one either and we ordered the same meals. Buffalo Chicken melt was really poorly made and did not taste how it usually does in another locations. Really unsatisfied with my experience. There were also too many servers running around, not enough space to scotch my seat back as I was an inch away from someone sitting behind me at a different table and there was no room to move our tables. Where to begin... Went here on Thursday night. First off there are onto many tables that are plus size accessible, a bit snug. Lol the wait staff was nice but it was a chaotic thou out the dinner. We were treated with a great welcome and seated immediately. We were told about he new specials. We then ordered drinks and it took a little time for it to get to the table. On the other side of the restaurant there was a group of guys seated that we're very loud, inconsiderate vulgar and ignorant. Did I say ignorant?? There were families and kids and many other customers. These guys were never asked to keep it down, lower their voices, stop cussing, be respectful or anything. It appeared the IHOP was intimidated or familiar with these antics. I was very disappointed. Our waitress was very sweet. She explained and shared her opinions about certain dishes and that was great. I ordered an egg omelet and asked if I could get a tortilla (typical Mexican needs a tortilla) with it. She mentioned that yes we have tortillas and will be no problem. I asked for flour and she sId yes it would be the ones they use to make quesadillas. I was like cool, then I asked instead of pancakes can I try the brioche special and she said it would be 2.00 difference. I was like okay cool. Eventually after still listening to the obscene guys yelling and hoop-la-ing the food came. The brioche was wonderful ... Thumbs up... Then it all goes down hill. My omelet came, and she explained that they had to dig out the tortillas from the freezer and the tortillas should be coming. I said okay and waited. I waited 20 minutes and by then started Ono my dinner. She came back and said they did not have flout tortillas but had corn and they will get those ready to come out. I was disappointing. I guessed she lied she she said the "had to dig the flour tortillas out of the freezer". No worries.... I'm almost done with my omelet and 10 minutes later she came out with a plate of CORN! REALLY CORN ON A PLATE! I looked ant her and she said he must not have READ the full order when it said CORN TORTILLAS... You wrote flour so where did you get the corn from? Did she lie about corn tortillas too? I mean I guess I was happy she didn't come out with a plate or baking FLOUR. RIGHT. I was very irritated and tried to be nice. She asked if I wanted to keep the plate of CORN. I said no. She then brought be sourdough bread and jelly. I FINISHED MY OMELET so.... WTF. You bring me dry ass bread and side of jelly, remember during his whole time I'm listening to this guy and his hoes and baby mama drama and f**k this and that, which all the other customers are irritated byt he as well. Finally the group of guys left. Thank goodness I'm not in AA because after this visit I would ld have wanted a drink. I get the bill and on there is a charge for the f***ing corn. Then the brioche that was supposed to be two dollars was 5.00. Then the dry bread was 1.99. I asks an then she said she would remove the corn. I got to the cashier and tried to be nice and bite my tongue and then I said. I thought the brioche was 2.00 not 5.00. She looks at me and then said how about I remove the price for the brioche and then you only pay for the bread? I was very disappointed and was like NOW I remember why I never go to IHOP. read more

I am still a fan but don't think it is, "As good as it gets!" Parking lot is rather small so be prepared to park on the street, about 4 blocks away if you are unlucky to have not land a spot in the lot. I read my latest "tip" and I didn't get the chocolate chip pancakes... I ordered my healthy 330 calorie omelet w/ light Swiss cheese. My omelet had tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach. I playfully hit his stomach then we shared a hug then proceeded inside where we were greeted by the friendly host whom seated us right away. We ordered our drinks- Diet soda for me, yes, I drink diet carbonated drinks in the morning! My guy ordered coffee and claimed he'd be cranky w/o his cup of Joe.. I joked and said, "You are already cranky now so no difference." He wanted me to eat something hearty, filling, fattening. He threatened to only order pancakes.. not a stack of pancakes but just one pancake (haha- cute) but somehow he ended up ordering the Cinna Stacks.. over easy eggs, hash browns, and sausage... the stacks did not need syrup.. cinnamon and whipped cream topped the cute little stack. He wanted me to try then he learned that I do not like cinnamon. He finished his entire order. I finished my entire order, minus the fruits. We continued w/ our conversation. He asked about Tess and I told him the events that happened over the weekend as well as the festivities happening in SF this weekend... 5 out of 5 wheelchair accessibility. Bathrooms were accessible and there was a nice spot in front for handicap parking with space for a ramp to deploy for a wheelchair. Inside ...they accommodated us. My husband in his wheelchair and I in my leg scooter... May be a little tight for very large wheelchairs. Place was hopping on a Thursday evening... it was late like11insh pm. I'm not familiar with the area but, there sure were a lot of bail bonds shops...giggle... Anywho.... Clean restaurant, friendly services ...They had a full staff it looked like 2 cooks in back. I mention this cuz usually at night a lot of restaurants like these have barely 2 people... We arrived on Thanksgiving morning at 9am with a party of 7 people. It was a busy morning, and we had to wait about 25 minutes for a table, which I thought was reasonable. The staff was working so hard to make everyone happy, and serve everyone as quickly as possible. Our food was great. I had the bacon and eggs combo with hashbrowns and the amazing egg nog pancakes. I was kind of hesitant on eating at these mainstream American diners, but IHOP is fine. It sucks that I can't find decent value prices for the pancakes. My food was the T Bond steak with pancakes for $20 (eh). Overall it was good. The Steak was soft though has a lot of fat. And the pancakes were cooked okay. There was some complications of how I wanted my eggs cooked but that's minor. Next time I would order more cheaply, and this IHOP is a decent diner. read more

Thank-you Ihop for having a few items that are ultra-healthy for me, and a buncha greasy unhealthy stuff for my boyfriend. Negative 1 star however cause this location isn't open 24 hours. That being said... I like to get either the yummy grilled chicken sandwich and fruit or the garden scramble with pancakes which both have less than 15 fat grams. My boyfriend likes to get whatever gluttonous ideas serves him best at the moment. The service was five start for sure. Our waitress was attentative and provided excellent service with a smile the entire time. However, she had a full group of 10 she stayed on top of it! I miss the days when I used to sit at the IHOP in Davis for hours on end just chit chatting with friends. This IHOP was very nostalgic of those days. Although much smaller than the other locations I've been at, this IHOP is quiet, friendly, and cozy. The food isn't sensational, but it'll do for hanging out. It seemed like the prices might have gone up about a dollar. A stack of four pancakes are now $7.45. Luckily, if you're not looking to spend a lot, there are coupons in the mail, newspaper, and probably online. There are also specials like the Mini Tooty Fruity meal (only available M-F). The parking lot is easy to get in, park, and get out. Beware of N First Street, though: The billions of lights like to be red. read more
