The decor and built ins and bar and walls look like they're mostly original from the 1940s which was very cool. Service was easy breezy, greeted pretty promptly, given a wait time and sat down within it. We came for the main event, the pizza. It was pretty darn good. The table ordered a pepperoni and a sausage meatball onion garlic and I went for the most esoteric options- the Sam's (add anchovies) and the Bonac filled up with the shellfish and I liked it, though it's probably not for everyone. this place is very homey and comforting - it has a very old style to it but was very fitting. we got their small veggie pie and while it kind of looks like a frozen pizza, i really enjoyed it! i also was really craving something similar to a chicken franchise, which is not in their menu, and the waitress was able to switch out some shrimp for chicken in a similar dish and it was delish! it was more of a white wine sauce and i expected it to be a little different, however, it was something different than i usually get and i liked it! my mom got their eggplant parm and thought it had a nice amount of cheese, sauce, and had tons of flavor. my boyfriend got their amatricana pasta and this dish was a highlight for him! the staff is very lovely here too, check this place out! read more

It's an absolute classic for a reason! Check it out, great unassuming food and true retro charm. You won't be disappointed.

This place used to be great. A real retro homey place with great home cooked Italian like you grew up on. The total contra-Hampton place. But come on! Get your act together! The pizza dough is not from quality imported "0" flour. They serve salad on scalding hot plates ( you like hot lettuce and melted cheese in your salad?). But worse you get 5 bites of noodles in pasta order. Huh?? They are cheaping out on the portion size. Is it really a good idea to save 45 cents by trying to cut back on a few noodles??? Serve generous portions! The food is basic. We go to Sams to eat. Not fill up on stale bread b/c they are stingy! Fix this or else Sam's is gonna turn into the next $50,000 handbag store. read more

This makes me so sad but this place has gone completely down hill. We were a party of 3 who ordered basic Italian dishes, veal parm, chicken parm, etc. the veal was burnt and almost completely inedible! The service was awful too. Never going back... devastated. Excellent pizza!! One of my favorites is Mario's which has artichokes, sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese. Tried the vegetarian for the first time on this visit but we swapped the mushrooms for broccoli. Loved! My sister kept commenting about how much cheese there was but that didn't bother me. There didn't seem to be much sauce though. The vegetables all seemed fresh and were not over cooked and therefore not too soft. The restaurant wasn't crazily busy for a Friday night around 6pm. There were definitely a lot of people coming in to pick up to-go orders. Even though they seem to be well staffed, service seemed a little slow for how many people were working. What a disappointment! We arrived at 7:45pm and seated without a long wait on Thursday before Memorial weekend. We thought we were very lucky. Then everything went south. We waited 15 min. No one came to our table. We asked the hostess and were told a waitress should be here soon. Waited another 10 min. We almost left but we were too hungry and too tired at that point, so decided to stay. Finally a waitress came and told us NO ONE TOLD HER WE WERE THERE. This is not the smallest restaurant but not a big restaurant. She knows her section and could easily glance over. We kind of knew what we want to order by then but asked a few questions about Angel Hair Pasta. She said that's the most popular dish that evening & everyone liked it. I also asked about the mussels and she said it's good and also good portion. Since we weren't in a mood for pizza that day, we opted for capri salad, baby spinach salad, mussels and angel hair pasta. The both salads were ok. Spinach salad dressing tasted worse than I tasted at the airport lounge. But we had no idea the worst was yet to come... again we waited long for the dish when finally arrived mussels were so salty I couldn't eat. I had to return which I hardly ever do. The pasta had no tastes at all and extremely dry. The grilled chicken inside not just dry but tasted like rubber. We were too hungry at that point, so we ate pasta without chicken. But it was sooooooooo bad. Left over food without heating would taste better at home. When we asked the check I gave her feedback about the pasta being tasteless and the chicken wasn't edible. Guess what? We waited again, then the waitress basically throw the check on the table. This is the established restaurant since 1947 and I expected to be better. One word, AWFUL. When I went in to pick up my cheese pie I was met with two of the rudest waitresses I've ever met. I had waited for them to finish what they were doing before I spoke up and finally said "excuse me" multiple times. After trying repeatedly to get their attention, one of them turned to me, rolled their eyes and just stared at me until I asked for my order. Unacceptable. The food review, worse than the service. As soon as I left the building I peeked into the box hoping the pizza would be worth the horrible service. I couldn't have been more disappointed. Not only did the crust consist of what seemed to be cardboard, it tasted like it was a FROZEN pizza. The cheese was completely congealed, and slid off the entire slice when I picked it up. To add 3% for payment with credit cards to already inflated menu prices is unfair not to mention an insult to customers. Taking a closer look at the restaurant you will see that the seating, small-wares, floor and bar is not clean. Sitting at the bar is uncomfortable simply because the bar top is VERY shallow making your knees hit the bar wall. Ir was not designed properly and. never corrected. Irritating issues: Pepper Grinder is filthy dirty and DOES NOT WORK and there is only one. Banquet Seats are uncomfortable need to be replaced or rebuilt Unhealthy air environment Paper napkins are the cheapest thin tissue like quality and should be upgraded. The checks are hand written and illegible The Hostess who works the seating has poke communication skills a d found to be rude The waitstaff does not have time to answer questions or explain the preparation of the items on the menu. Smelly, dirty and uncomfortable. In East Hampton there are other restaurant options with significantly better quality food, seating, service and atmosphere not to mention being penalized for using.a. I just want to start with whoever gave this place 1 or 2 stars - Please get the stick out of your ass and you are most likely not from the New York area. I loved the pizza. The 9" was crispy and tasted great. The baked clams were browned and very good. The service was very friendly and they came over often to see if we needed anything. I can't wait to go back and try more food. It's cooked old school in an oven so the dishes are crispy on the edges and the cheese is browned. So anyone born in NYC would love it. I am working out in the Hamptons for a few weeks and just arrived in town this week. My cousin and I found this lovely restaurant via our google search. It's not a huge space and since it was later in the evening, it was filled with patrons. We waited about 20 minutes for a table. Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful with the menu as she shared her suggestions. We ordered two individual size pizzas, Caesar salad and pasta dishes...oh how can I forget....their amazing garlic bread. The portions are a very generous size...enough to share. Everything came out hot, hot, hot! Love it!!! It was all so delicious I couldn't stand myself lol I really wanted dessert but I just couldn't fit anything else in my stomach. What to expect: No reservations allowed. Gets very busy for dinner. Expect to wait to get a table. But worth the wait. Service: Pleasant. No complaints. Cost: Very reasonable. Not high priced. Delicious vegetarian option easily made vegan, pricing very reasonable for the area. Wait was only 20 minutes. The way two waitresses and one bartender are able to successfully manage such a busy restaurant is wonderful. The best! The last of original East Hampton Village, still a home town place. My favorite cheese pizza, and their specialty pies are phenomenal with "the big easy" being my favorite. Adding a special touch, Graham the owner is usually behind the bar providing home town service with a great sense of humor. What's going on w Sam's lately? We have been regulars for 40+ years but the past few months the pizza is hit or miss. The last one we got this week had so little flavor and the crust was so chewy it was hard to eat it. Sam's has been a staple in East Hampton for years. I washed dishes there when I was a kid and they always gave me a pie to take home. I take the family out sometimes and it's always consistently great Italian food. I started thinking about pizza the other day and just couldn't resist picking up a Sam's special. It's not NY pizza but more like a frozen Tombstone or Singas but better and with a good sauce that I think has a dash of Calabrian chili seasoning oil for a flavor boost. This pizza is more like a guilty pleasure from childhood for anyone growing up in the suburbs anywhere in the US. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. It's not a go out of your way place but if local it's worth a try and I'd describe it as good but not great.
