Miso soup, pot stickers and tempura jalapeño with cream cheese for starters (almost worth the cost of admission alone) Then some dynamite rolls (all you can eat) Finishing up with Mochi Ice Cream. All included in the lunch all you can eat spread. The staff are VERY attentive to your needs, and are super friendly and able to answer any questions about their rolls. I ordered takeout 45 min before closing, when I walked in to pick up, no one greeted me and I had to find my way around to be visible to anyone. A lady finally addressed me and took my name, which I assumed meant she was collecting my food. 15 minutes went by, she never returned. Then another lady who's seemed to be coming back from break approached me, asked my name and handed me my food that had been sitting on top of the sushi counter the entire time I was there waiting. I was somewhat disappointed with the customer service as this place had been recommended by some friends. The food was fine, not bad., the roll was not as neat as I expected. Everyone has an off night so I would give them another chance. Hoping that this was because it was an hour before closing time. The environment is a typical casual AYCE sushi spot. read more

I'm really disappointed to be writing this because my husband and I have always enjoyed supporting this business especially during Covid. Unfortunately, our experience today was not a good one. The service started off friendly, but things quickly changed when we mentioned that we didn't like one of the rolls (wasn't even edible). We were doing the all-you-can-eat option (and paying dinner pricing during lunchtime for the rolls we selected), so we were surprised by how the situation was handled. Instead of working with us, we were told they couldn't take the roll back because they would "lose money," and that we would be charged extra for it if they were to replace the roll. That response felt frustrating and unnecessary, especially given the circumstances. I get times are hard with money/ prices but where is the customer service in a response like that??? Not to mention the food didn't seem fresh all around; muscles were tough and rubbery. Praying I don't get sick. We ended up paying over $70 for very little food since we left without finishing, which made it even more disappointing. We understand businesses have policies, but the way this was handled didn't feel customer-focused at all. Customer service is HUGE!! Sadly, this experience has made us reconsider coming back. This was easily the WORST sushi experience I've ever had. The menu was extremely generic, and almost everything was packed with an excessive amount of rice, seemingly just to fill you up faster. The slices of fish were also incredibly thin, but that wasn't even the worst part. The fish was unbelievably fishy. I've eaten sushi plenty of times, and I have never had fish taste or smell this strong. It had a very strange, unpleasant taste that immediately made me question the quality and freshness. It was bad enough that I waved down our server and asked to speak with a manager. What made the experience even worse was the manager's response. Instead of showing any concern, she basically dismissed me and said, "We've been serving it all day, it's fine, it's just you." That response was incredibly disappointing, especially when a customer is raising a concern about the quality of raw fish. After eating there, I ended up feeling sick to my stomach. We don't make it over to this side of Sparks often, but both times we've been to JJ Sushi, it's been phenomenal service and great flavors. This most recent time the restaurant was pretty full, but they sat us quickly and got straight to our drink order. The staff are always incredibly friendly and answer questions, make suggestions, and are quick to get our order out to us. We went here tonight for dinner and the customer service was amazing from the host to the chefs, we sat at the bar. The chefs were on top of it and were getting our rolls out in a quick and efficient manner. We tried multiple rolls and they were delicious. The only one I wasn't a big fan on was the King Kong, which is typically one of my favorite rolls at different sushi restaurants. It just wasn't the greatest, but there's so many other options that I'm not too upset about not liking the King Kong. Overall a wonderful experience and we will be back. read more

Walked in on a Friday evening for dinner since I have been craving sushi and wanted to go somewhere close. They were really busy, but our table of 2 was seated quickly. The restaurant was small, but there is an option for table or bar seating. We got a table seat and opted for all you can eat. The price was $32.99 for dinner. For appetizers, we got mussels, seaweed salad, miso soup, and gyoza. The seaweed salad, gyoza, and miso soup was good and standard across most sushi places. The mussels were really good, but they limit two orders per person. We usually go for nigiri and a few long rolls. The fish was fresh, but the ratio for fish to rice in the nigiri was way off. There is too much rice for the amount of fish. If they removed 1/3 of the rice for each piece, it would have been perfect. I see they might be adding more rice to get you to feel full faster and they can save on the fish. The rolls we got were JJ, rainbow, and black tiger. Not very memorable to me. They give you the typical wasabi and ginger. The wasabi was spicy which I love! There were only two pieces of ginger and it was a good palate cleanser so we asked for more. The service here is great. All the servers helped each other and on top of collecting dirty plates since the tables are very small. They provide you with the papers to mark your order and are quick to bring you your appetizers. This was a good experience, but the ratio of rice and fish in the nigiri turned me off and I do not like how they limit orders on the popular appetizers especially for the price. They can accommodate larger parties, but they only have 1 table for groups larger than 4. Resturaunt was clean but the service was lacking on smiles upon entry. Food was just bland and all the rolls had similar taste. Nothing really popped. If paying for all you can eat, it should be all you can eat but they limit you only 2 orders of mussels per person? Way too much rice on the nigiri. Almost if they want you to fill up fast‍. This is my neighborhood go-to for sushi. Staff is always friendly and the food is consistently great. It's relatively small but well laid out and comfortable no matter where you choose to sit. Tonight, my husband who has celiac joined me and the staff was very cautious and knowledgeable about what he could and could not consume. I really tried to find something good to say about this first (and last) experience, but I'm struggling. 4 of us went and ordered all you can eat dinner- we ordered 9 rolls between the 4 of us a few muscles and one miso soup. The sushi was okay, the muscles were so dry we couldn't finish them (the first sushi spot I've hated the muscles), the service was also very inattentive. Our bill comes: Tell me why they decided to charge us for our most expensive roll (that we finished btw) ala carte on top of the all you can eat price? We would have paid less if we ordered them all separately! I can understand if a whole plate of sushi was left, but it was half a roll leftover- between 4 people! We only ordered 2.25 rolls each under the all you can eat. Talk about nickled and dimed! Do yourself a favor and eat elsewhere, the sushi was gross and overpriced- they used so much rice. Food was standard nothing spectacular. The rice is quite mushy and they put so much rice almost too much in rolls, if you're a texture person this may be an issue for you as it was for me. Also I was un aware there was mayonnaise on almost every roll which was not appetizing. As far as the service it was okay, had to ask for refills along with napkins but other than that. Best sushi restaurant in town! Food and flavors are so good. Jessie and Joe are always amazing as well and make you feel welcomed. My go-to sushi spot. No one compares. I recommend trying the killer if you like spice. I prefer it with no torch. But recommend you try it the way they designed it. The knight is also a great roll. The mango island is delicious as well. You really can't go wrong here. The Yakiton is a must try appetizer. Great atmosphere for a date night. Came by Saturday afternoon for some AYCE. We normally frequent another sushi place but we're in the area. The fried lemon one is DELICIOUS even though I am a raw sushi fan. I eat it paired with salmon nigiri. The salmon nigiri was delicious and fresh. I love that they immediately include lemon as that is how it is done! The other rolls were great! There was not one that we didn't like. The bite sizes could have been a bit smaller or with a little less rice. The service was great and quick. The servers were fast with taking our AYCE sushi forms and appetizers followed quickly. We were checked on enough and drinks were refilled when about halfway. By far the worst sushi I have ever had in reno. I have been eating sushi for as long as I remember. And no place has ever given me as bad as of an experience that I received at JJs. 1. Like other reviews say, this place overpacks rolls and nigiri with rice. I was astonished at how much rice was included in each piece. The ratio was about 90/10 rice to sushi. 2.When the female host was confronted about this issue she immediately became very defensive, causing a scene to unfold for about 10-15 people to watch. We told her we were dissatisfied with the food, to which she had no real resolve. This situation probably lasted about 10 minutes of back and forth arguing with absolutely 0 resolve. We ended up paying for what we ordered with plans to dispute the charge. 3. The hothead chef with the stud ear rings and the asian tattoo on his neck was absolutely out of his mind. telling us to come back and "use his knife" multiple times, and making comments when we weren't even engaged in conversation with him. Keep in mind this guy was also confused when we asked for "belly cut" yellowtail- He knows absolutely nothing about the craft and would not stop mouthing off. The fact they allow this kind of disrespect to be shown over customers giving feedback about their food, that they are paying for is a slap in the face to the public and any sushi connoisseur. Go to someplace where you will be treated right. I recommend tokyo sushi, and ohana sushi. For context- the photo of rice on the plate is HALF of what was given with each piece of nigiri. The service was excellent from the servers to the chefs. The place looks typical with enough seating at the bar, which is great for people who prefer to sit at the bar like my family does, and ample table seating for those who don't. All the chefs are very mindful and pay attention to your requests. My family does not particularly like any sauce on our sushi and they have consistently made sure to either ask us if we wanted a particular sauce like sriracha or ponzu. Very pleased with the service when we go there. The only downside is that they use a lot of rice. I mean, a lot! They do have a wide selection of sushi, and their raw fish is always fresh for every time we went there. So no complaints when it comes to freshness. It's just that there's more rice than fish that you get full right away. Gone there 3 times and would be willing to go back again if I'm in the Sparks area. Server was highly attentive before the lunch rush, but it appeared he was the only one working and it did get pretty busy around 2 so the service did slow. Did two AYCE lunches for about $27 per person and ordered mussels, salmon nigiri, four rolls, and miso. We ordered a strawberry mochi (enjoyed) and an orange with plum wine (did not enjoy) for dessert. Cucumber salad was old. We did not continue to eat it. My wife ordered the yakiton and it was dead cold to the touch, so we returned it and did not order another one. We let them know it was cold and you can hear a couple ppl yell at one of the guys about it. Im assuming it's the guy that got yelled at was the one who didn't heat the food up correctly and I can just see him smiling. Not something I would be happy about. Already a bad start! Now the rolls. The sashimi was decent. I was worried it was going to have a fishy taste since the cucumber salad did. But it did not. The only thing was the ratio of rice to the size fish was not good. I had huge balls of rice to thin, small slices of fish. Typically it should be the other way around. This was honestly the only thing I was happy with was the taste, not the ratio. We ordered a few long rolls. Rolls had lots of rice. I had to ask the chef to make sure not to overload it with rice. Taste was mediocre, nothing had a WOW factor. Inside is clean and the service was polite. For me to go back, they gotta do more than just decent service. The food has to match. Unfortunately, my expectations due to the current yelp rating they have, was totally was deceiving. If I could rate 1-10, 10 being best, this place is a 4.5, short of average. I've been coming to JJ's for years. It's one of the best places in the Reno-Sparks area for sushi. The staff are always attentive and friendly. They have a few large TVs if you want to watch sports games too. The yakiton is a must order and the vanilla ice cream is good too; it's not rock solid ice cream like other places. The service at JJ's was perfect. Everyone was kind and attentive. We never really waited for anything but it wasn't overbearing either. They just always popped up when needed. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side with a few tables and mostly bar seating The food also came out very quickly each order. The part that missed for me, was the ratio of rice was on the generous side. Even my tempura jalapeño was more rice than jalapeño. We also had rolls where the rice was very different. In the first round of rolls the rice was a bit dry while in another it seemed more fresh. The roll selection itself nearly all includes tempura, Kani, crystal shrimp, and/or creamcheese. I don't think I would recommend this restaurant for people who love raw rolls. That said, the food was tasty (besides the older rice rolls) and the staff was great. This place would be perfect for someone wanting to get into sushi or for someone who doesn't like raw rolls so much. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet, I go there all the time. JJ's is a small sushi bar in the Safeway shopping center on Vista. Its appeal lies in the friendliness and welcoming personality of the owner, Jessie. Some people just have a knack for remembering other people. Jessie always visits with us and the conversation is genuine. The sushi is always good, as well. Recently, we found new rolls on the menu so we had to sample them.
