I LOVE coming to World Market, especially during their Easter and Nutcracker hunts! They hide four gift cards twice a day with values of $20, $50, or even $100, which makes it feel like a real-life treasure hunt. It's definitely not guaranteed you'll find one, but when you do... it's SUCH an amazing, euphoric feeling. Totally worth it! We have been going to World Market for over a decade... perhaps even two. We used to get big ticket items such as solid wood tables and chairs. And up to now, we are still using them and have stayed current even with modern design. They still go well and look good in our house even after we have changed and updated our style and moved houses too! But then we stopped going as often. However, recently, we have been frequenting World Market. There is this truffle chips from Spain that is sooo good! We discovered it from A Market as we go there for brunch a lot. We have been to Spain but we bought and brought home the Ibira ham flavored chips. Had we known about this brand & its truffle flavor, we would have brought those home. We did look online and other stores but World Market has the cheapest price! I also love Cadbury chocolates, and they offer different flavors! However, be careful. For this one, the ones offered at Target or other stores are cheaper. So for this, get only the flavors that you cannot find anywhere else. There are still a lot more to discover at World Maket! I like this World Market better than the one in Mission Viejo because I like the store layout better and they always have a great variety of products in stock. Also, the parking is very easy and it's also easier to get to (The Mission Viejo one is on that loooooong access road you have to drive out of your way to get to since the store is one of those stores on that little land peninsula surrounded by railroad tracks). HOWEVER - Only 4 stars because the online order pickup at this store is always painful! I order online for order pickup a lot (since you get the bonus 10% off by picking up in store and also if you use your $5 World Market reward discount coupons then sometimes I don't qualify for free shipping). Anyway, I pick up from here ever month or two and each time it takes them like 10 minutes to find my order. I feel like they have to travel to Antartica and back to retrieve my order and it's not just a one off occurrence - literally every time (and I do this frequently) they take 10 minutes or more to retrieve my order and it's super annoying! On September 1st, I went to the Cost Plus World Market store in South Coast, CA to redeem a gift card that was gifted to me the month before in August. While trying to do so, the cashier refused to accept it. She stated she couldn't get it to work and asked me twice if I had already used it. Twice, I replied I had not used it. She then went on her radio and asked a manager how she could check if I had used the gift card already. I felt like a criminal in that moment. She then informed me she could not accept the gift card and asked for another form of payment. I specifically went into the store because I had a gift card and was not interested in paying another way. She stated she could not help me with the gift card as she was "only a cashier" and said I had to reach out to customer service via email for help. I confirmed with her that I needed to leave the physical store I was in and go home to reach out to someone online to help me with a gift card for the store I was standing in. She confirmed and repeated she was "just a cashier". When I got home, I verified the card was active with a $50 balance. I immediately contacted customer service, and what followed was a string of evasive, unhelpful, and inconsistent responses. First, they falsely claimed the card was only usable online--again, contradicting what's printed on the card and the information on their own website. Then, they told me to use the e-gift card to purchase a physical gift card online, which violates their own stated policy that gift cards cannot be used to buy other gift cards. On top of that, they expected me to pay shipping for this workaround. This behavior is not just poor customer service--it's deceptive and unlawful. Selling gift cards that stores refuse to honor is a direct violation of consumer protection laws. After more than a week of back-and-forth, the company still has not provided a valid way for me to redeem my gift card in-store. They've wasted my time, given me conflicting information, and attempted to push the problem back on me. read more

Today, I got a notification through text that I can purchase any item and get a free ornament of your choice as long as it's under $6.99. What a great deal that was! I always go straight to their food section because it's so unique and you find things that you can't get at a regular grocery store. This time around I just got some Thai tea mochi. There's so much to look at- items from all over the world. I just visited Japan this year, and found some food items I came across over there. Most of the time when I come here, I head straight to the back... because that's where all the food and goodies are! They sell everything from kitchen, furniture, bed and bath, boho style clothing, jewelry, stationery, calendars, ceramics, dishware for your home, to beers of the world, a variety of wines, a whole collection of tea (I love Republic of Tea, and they carry it here!), gourmet sodas, a variety of chips and interesting flavors (Spanish Ham, fried egg, etc.), chocolates, and cookies. The store brand World Market Olive Oil doesn't have a strong olive oil taste which is great if don't want flavors to over power. Olive oil is very healthy so if you can just pour a little in some of the food you made after cooking for health benefits why not do it. I sometimes add more than one oil to the food I made. World Market is my FAVORITE store as a designer. I have been to over 20 locations across the country, and I will not be returning to the Santa Ana location. Immediately upon walking into this store felt like a Ross or TJ Maxx, it was dirty and unorganized. Not a single staff member came and asked if I required assistance, or greeted me when I entered (which is normal for World Market locations). This store was out of stock of many items with empty bins and shelves, the floor models they did have were dirty, worn, torn, or broken. The floor and walls were DISGUSTING, with food and coffee stains which were clearly weeks old. When I did ask for help the employee got distracted and did not return. I was looking for a specific item for a client, the website said the item was in stock, and when I asked a second employee for assistance, she informed me their system said they had 12 available. They could not find any. This store needs new management. read more

My first ever World Market visit was to this location and I now visit at least once a month. This store is great and has all kinds of odds and ends to decorate your home or office. They also have great deals on WINE!!! Every time I go in, the store looks completely different with new furniture, gifts, bedding, kitchen supplies etc. It is just fun to walk around a look at different things that you may not see at other stores. Due to the fact that it is extremely close to my job, I tend to visit on my 1 hour lunch breaks but unfortunately I feel like even an hour is never enough time to thoroughly walk through the store and see all the goodies. The Cost Plus company has been around a long time. When I was a kid, my folks would take us to the main store in San Francisco, which was a huge warehouse at the time. We would spend hours browsing all of the unique and exotic imported goods. It was great because they had furniture, textiles, baskets, kitchenware, and various home decor stuff from all over the world that you never came across at other stores during those times. It was almost like going to a cultural museum of sorts, except way cooler because you could buy the artifacts! Nowadays there are Cost Plus World Market stores in most all major cities (at least on the west coast), and though they still stock a lot of cool unique items, it can be just as easy to find more of those types of things online. But to this day, I still enjoy going into the store and have always preferred Cost Plus over Pier One and other such stores. They have a great ethnic/gourmet food section, and the store that I go to in Costa Mesa has an excellent beer and wine selection. They also have great customer incentive programs, good sales, fun seasonal merch, and is a fun place to shop for gifts. One thing that I'd note about the Costa Mesa store in particular, is that the employees are really top-notch customer service pros. The manager that runs the beer section mentioned that their buyer really enjoys his job, and their diverse and interesting offerings seem to prove that. The grocery section gets rotated often and you can find great stuff on clearance when its a month or so before the item's "best by" date. I now find myself at the store pretty often since we love their whole bean coffee, which is a better price and better quality coffee than what local grocery stores around here carry on the regular.
