I've been coming to this IKEA Restaurant for about 10 years. In the past year the quality and quantity of their food has decreased rapidly. I'm sitting here now wondering whether the corn bread I'm eating has gone bad... it just tastes "off". The hot dogs are slimmer, and the buns are barely substantial enough to wrap around the dog. The ribs are "okay" but tend towards tough to cut and chew. The salmon is still good, but the salad portion that comes with it is smaller. The cakes are smaller too, and not fresh tasting. The mashed potatoes are okay, the gravy tastes old or stale or weird, like there's something extra in it... ugh. I'm really disappointed at how rapidly the food has declined here. Update: I came back after about a month, and things have improved somewhat. I may have been there on an off day before, but the quality is slightly better overall, and the gravy tastes normal now. Look, whenever I review a place, it helps to look at things in context. Is this the best food I've ever eaten? No. Is it the most charming atmosphere? Meh. But tell me where else you can have a genuinely filling, healthy breakfast for TWO AMERICAN DOLLARS. I mean, seriously. For value alone, this place is a pretty damn good deal. If you come for a special event such as the Smorgasbord, the food is genuinely yummy. I'm not giving it stars just 'cause it's cheap, either. I like that the cafe has a ton of healthier options for the picky eaters in the group (eg, wraps, salmon, salads). I am not a healthy eater, so I can recommend the apple tart. And you can fix yourself a very respectable latte for only $1, if you can live without the fancy leaf design on top. The restaurant opens before the showroom and store do; if you arrive right when it opens (9:30) it's a lot less crowded. Love that ikea has a restaurant onsite, because we spend so long here when we shop. Kids meals are reasonably priced. They have healthy-ish options such as salmon (they will refrain from putting mayonnaise-y sauce at your request), and the mashed potatoes are good. Not sure why they don't sell alcohol - I think the VA ikea has wine. There is definitely ample seating - the dining room is huge, though it always looks ragged. But j guess that's what happens when you expect people to clean up the tables themselves. This location seems to rarely have two lines open - today we sat on sofa and watched as the line backed up into the store (easily 50 people waiting) before they finally opened the second line. Meh. I mean, I guess it's a reasonably tolerable restaurant if you're doing a day-long trek through an IKEA, but but the food is really only so-so. The Swedish meatballs are the best thing to eat and they're good but over-salted. The other things are just disappointing. My wife almost didn't finish her stuffed chicken breast, the vegetables were kind of terrible and the mashed potatoes were a bit slimier than I'd like. read more

The workers seem uninterested in helping customers in a timely manner. They wander about trying to figure out how to accomplish a simple return. It took an employee 2 minutes to walk back a return 5 feet. I timed it. The employees have no motivation or drive to provide the customer service I have come to expect from IKEA. Got to the store around 9:20 and waited in the parking lot with a few others until the restaurant opened at 9:30. Walked in and there was an IKEA associate there to greet us all before we walked up the escalator. Used the restroom before getting breakfast. They were pleasantly clean and smelled nice. I ordered the American Swedish breakfast. It was $2.12 including tax and came with free coffee + refills. Very nice atmosphere. This was the earliest I had ever been to IKEA. The breakfast was filling and tasted pretty good. I would come back again and try the muffins and cinnamon rolls next time. read more

Alright, here's the deal. Homie heard about this here swedish meatballs but I was mad skeptical about the whole situation. But yo, this place flat out got the sizzle going on for it. Those meatballs were off the charts and I got the lingonberry juice, which put the right finishing touch on the meal. Expensive and the food reminded me of school lunch back in elementary school. The ribs were still cold, and so was the chicken! I heard some days the food is really good. The food isn't superb, but the prices will clue you in on that. The mac and cheese was standard and the french fries were crispy and passable. You can get a decent filling meal for two under $12. Few places have food before and after you eat right in-house so I value the convenience. If you order a soda, you're allowed to take it out of the restaurant/dining area and walk the store with it as long as you return the glass (at least that's what I was told). read more

In short, the food at the IKEA cafeteria is really just what I would expect from a TV dinner. Cheap, looks edible, but is not all that tasty (and probably void of any health benefits). My husband and I had the Swedish meatball platter, because, isn't that what you are SUPPOSED to get at IKEA? We split the 15-ball platter and didn't even feel compelled to finish it all. I'm convinced that the sole reason for IKEA cafe is that people would be murdering people if they had to go through the marketplace on an empty stomach. The good: You can get a pretty big meal here cheap. The chocolate cake is good as long as you don't google search it. (Seriously. Just trust me. It's been recalled for reasons I refuse to think about) The meatballs are edible and the lignon berry jam is pretty damn tasty. The bad: The meatballs are only edible. To traverse all that is IKEA and remain sane, it is necessary to pause and reflect on your life and the lovely do-it-yourself brand new cookie-cutter "designy" decor you are planning to cram into your basement apartment (or is that just me?). Well if nothing more you at least need to refuel if you plan on making it through that maze of a place and where better to do so than at IKEA's own restaurant and cafe (tres chic, no?). Yes IKEA truly has everything one might ever need, including a plate of 15 meatballs, mashed potatoes and gravy, and cranberry sauce for just $3.99 (you must be outta your mind!). On top of that they offer up grilled fish with rice, veggie wraps, mac n' cheese, ribs, and a whole slue of enticing treats (and I'm not just talking about the hot dogs, cinnamon rolls, and soft-serve you saw when you walked in!). And you know what, like most things IKEA makes, just because it's cheap and mass-produced does not mean it is all wrong--in fact, those meatballs seemed to be ALL RIGHT as I, the vegetarian, wolfed down about 7 sitting in that upstairs cafe by the lovely window wall that looks out over the massive parking lot while listening to the muffled murmurs of small children playing in the wonderfully enclosed play-pen in the center of the cafe (seen, but not heard--I like your style IKEA). In any case, I'd say the food options beat Micky D's and various other assorted fast food joints for sure, so don't be afraid to pop on by for a snack and the odd egg-timer or angled book shelf with a few umlauts in the name! read more

I came in with pretty low expectations, and they were certainly exceeded, hence the 4 stars. I had the meatballs with mash which was the Ikea Family Special for the month. I really enjoyed it. I also got the crisp bread, which is delicious with ligonberry sauce. The husband had the crab cake sandwich - downside here is the husband hates tomato. He asked for no tomato so they took it off of the lettuce and onions that were also on the sandwich. This meant there was tomato residue and seeds left on the lettuce and onion, which he then had to pick off. Is it that hard to just grab a piece of fresh lettuce and onion for the sandwich? I do love the carts that allow you to put multiple trays so that one parent can go through the food line while other adult provides supervision of child(ren) at a table. I think Disney needs these... My boyfriend and I visited the cafe at IKEA recently when we were shopping for lamps in the store. I need to furnish my new apartment, so naturally I thought to visit IKEA, which has always been my go to for furniture and household accessories and the like. We had lunch at the cafe and ordered those classic amazing Swedish meatballs in gravy (with mashed potatoes) and also a salmon dish. The meatballs were, as always, pretty fantastic. However, the salmon dish had very scant portions and wasn't as tasty as we had expected (it was sort of bland). Nevertheless, the food here is quite good - I also ordered a small side salad (which came with any dressing of your choice) and really enjoyed it. It was fresh and delicious. In the future, I think I'll stick with just those amazing Swedish meatballs! My boyfriend, who was visiting IKEA for the first time ever (Yes, ever!), agreed that they were delicious. read more

The pictures advertising the food looks delicious but when you actually taste the food it's not all the that. The prices are good, but I found the checks meatball to be dry and out of the freezer feeling. The people who work at the at the restaurant don't even smile and were kinda rude. I literally thanked the girl serving and she didn't even bother to look up, just kind of shoved the tray towards me. They also ran out of tea for drinks, but offered free refills. Had the Buffalo Chicken wrap combo. It was average but satisfying. Kinda wish I had tried some of that gorgeous looking chocolate cake aghh!! Madre had the crab cake sandwich and was pleased (although the bun was like the size of Texas whereas the actual crab cake was like two times smaller tsk tsk). This was my first time having something off of their regular menu and I think I would lean more towards being a fan of IKEA breakfast over lunch/din din. Every time my boyfriend and I come out to IKEA, we always try to eat here mainly because the food is pretty cheap. I always get the chicken tenders and he always gets the meatball combo (all together $10). Usually, the chicken is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and the fries are always really good. For some reason, though (i think it's because we randomly came on a Thursday instead of on the weekend), one of my chicken tenders was completely under-cooked (still pink) and I feel like I received much less fries than I usually get. The meatballs were okay. We noticed the price had gone up, but that's because they've added more meatballs to the meal. They also used to have more sauces, but now they only have Ranch, Honey Mustard, and Ketchup available. So, if you're gonna go to try the food, I think it's better to go on the weekend when there's more staff on hand to continuously cook the food. read more

Went for breakfast, had the special plate, for $2.99 I can't complain too much. Well, except for the fact that the crepes aren't part of the special, and there is no pricing marked for them (they are 3 for $2.99). The bacon was uber thin which works for me, that way it is cooked, and the eggs were alright for mass produced scrambled eggs. It's sorta of like hit the dining/mess hall on a military base or a commissary on a college campus for breakfast. I'll update the review the next time I run in for lunch; as I recall the Swedish meatballs are worth 4 stars as are the salads. The breakfast would get 2 stars if it cost anymore than the 3 bucks that it was! read more

After going here many times, I would rate this as ok. I think the regular price food is more than it's worth, but if you can get a special of the day, you can save money. One complaint is that they changed their policy for the family special where you can get cheap kids meals. the kids meals by themselves were a pretty good deal to share between friends, but them they put up a sign saying only for kids under 12 and kids have to be present. what really? I can never find their cupcakes and apple pies anymore, it seems like they run out and I would have to ask specifically for them. Any ways, everything seems to come from frozen and feels very much like a cafeteria. I guess it's good to eat when you're shopping and want a quick meal. They do close at 9 and I wish it was later. If you want a good amount of food for an affordable price (especially as a student), this is the perfect place to go in college park. I love their breakfasts and always order 2 plates! One breakfast plate is about $2.00 and they fill it. The lunch menu is good as well but it costs a little more. Love going here with friends to study, too. read more

It took me a while to pick out the items for my office. I finally did and noticed that shipping was costly. I went to the College Park location and picked out everything plus pay for it within 20 minutes. Ebony the cashier was friendly and overall it was a wonderful experience. I give them a 4 because their stock qualtity was off. It said that 3 in stock when I needed 15 and I was ablut to pay online plus shipping. When I got to the item it was well over 60 of them. read more

This literally the most magical place on earth. Upon my entry to this sublime establishment I was greeted by a smiling employee, and I'm not talking your run of the mill Walmart greeter, I mean a truly happy employee. After I took an absolutely riveting ride up an escalator where I saw an array of wonderfully designed pieces that looked to be designed with such care and skill that even a king would be in awe. And dare I mention the food court! I tasted cuisine from all over the world and my chicken tenders were absolutely divine. All in all I would recommend IKEA for just about any situation. Need a fun and fresh date? IKEA. Need a place to decorate your house to make you look like you have your life together? IKEA. Need to catch a quick bite to eat whilst shopping for a lamp? IKEA.
