I've been going to IKEA for years and I have never eaten at the restaurant or cafe until recently. Crazy, I know. I wanted to try the Swedish meatballs everyone always raves about. My mom and I stopped in on a Tuesday around 11:30am after we walked the top floor. There wasn't too long of a line. The line is cafeteria style. I was a little overwhelmed by all the choices. I chose the Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes, lingonberry jam, and greens. My mom ordered the chicken tenders with fries. Was it the best meal I've ever had? No. But, the food was decent and the price was great. I liked the meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy, and the lingonberry. I didn't care for the mix greens. I liked the broccoli but the green beans and snow peas had that pre-frozen taste and it just wasn't my thing. My mom enjoyed her chicken tenders and really liked the fries. There were plenty of places to sit and there were a few employees going around bussing and cleaning tables. The woman who gave us our food was pleasant to deal with. Our cashier was carrying on a conversation with another employee while she rang us up. She didn't say anything to us except a half-hearted "thank you" as we walked away. After lunch, we shopped the bottom floor. After we checked out, I wandered over to the cafe and picked out a few goodies to take home. I got some chocolates, a bag of potato chips, and a bag of the frozen Swedish meatballs along with a gray packet. The main register was closed, so we had to go to the cafe register where you can order hot dogs, pizza, and slushies. The young woman working there looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. We bought a reusable bag to put our items in (we forgot to bring one in with us). I asked if she rang up the reusable bag because I didn't see her scan it and I wanted to make sure we paid for it. She stared at me as if I offended her and she gave a sarcastic "yes...." before she told us our total. She placed the slushie cup on top of the counter and walked away. No thank you, no greeting - just the total. I walked to the machine to get my slushie and all three options were lit up, meaning they weren't working. I walked back to the counter and told the young woman this. She sighed, rolled her eyes and said "There's one over there...." and jerked her head to the right. I don't know why she was giving me attitude, but I decided not to say anything. The other slushie machine was working. I chose lime mixed with another flavor and it was delicious. read more

Taking a big chance I got the salmon ball meal which comes with 6 salmon balls covered in curry sauce, green beans, pickled red cabbage and mashed taters. I saw other people with a slice of toast but I must've skipped that part of the line. For the price I guess it's a good value but I found the balls were very dry and the green beans to be VERY al-dente which isn't my favorite. I don't think I'll ever order this again. The fruit cheesecake was yummy though and not too sweet. Next time I'll maybe try the Swedish meatballs. read more

Were were there last Friday for the Summer Smorgasbord. It was announced via email for members on their mailing list. It was all-you-can-eat for $12.99. All tickets were sold online and were sold out before the day of the event. The cafe closed that evening for all other patrons. We got there a little after 7:00 p.m. and there already was a long line. We were surprised to see that there was assigned seating. The folks that did the check in had a seating chart! We were shown to our table and our names were on a small piece of paper taped to the table. We got a small two seater table with a divider which blocked our view of the window. It would have been nice to look out the window as we dined instead of behind a divider. Because the lines were long, people piled up trays of food on these moving tray carts so they wouldn't have to come back in line. It seemed like there would be an awful lot of wasted food in the end. For the most part, it was the standard offerings of the Ikea cafe -- meatballs with a choice of beef, chicken, or vegetarian and/or salmon for your main entree. Prior to the entrees, they offered smoked salmon, mini shrimp salad, herring, and mashed potato salad. I liked the mini shrimp salad but not so much the potato salad. The potato salad was tangy. The salmon came with a lemon dill sauce which I will probably skip next time. The meatballs also come with a gravy sauce which was just fine. After the scoop of the veggies, we were out of the line. I have to agree with others that the tables always seem to need a bit of attention. The chairs are not that comfortable. It's a good thing you get to try what they sell to see if you like them. lol. The one thing that I will rave about is the strawberry shortcake for dessert. I don't believe it is on their regular menu but I absolutely loved it. It was the only thing I wanted to take home so I got up and got another cake and walked out with it. It was a little bit still frozen in the center but good enough to eat. I hope they will have more of the strawberry shortcake in the future as a regular item. Food is always affordable and if we're ever there after work, it's a quick bite while we shop. read more

IKEA College Park is very disappointing. I've purchased so very good things the Team is always helpful and pleasant. My purchase experience was good until Engrid decided she didn't like black women. She played on her phone to avoid taking me next. When I approached she became irate nasty mean and rude. I've never been treated that way. I spoke to the MOD who could have cared less. Very disappointed. Will stop shopping there if this is what I have to go thru. Beware of Engrid. She's awful. read more

Awesome flavours, and depending on your preference, so well cooked that I didn't need to chew much! - Chicken tenders and fries: we say they were sitting in the hot bar area and cooked in advance, so were a bit skeptical, but they were surprisingly tasty, although fries were just warm. - Mac & cheese with steamed veggies: great mix of veggies, and great mac & cheese!! They have a huge cafeteria upstairs, and it was clean and open till 8:30pm. I'd like to try their apple pie and BBQ chicken wrap next time. read more

Love this place especially Tuesday's when children eat free (now with adult meal.) the children love it because of the cool play area. I like it because of the Euro atmosphere, cool music and the cool inexpensive items on sale. The salmon smells great, but I don't know if I'd trust ikea fish. Hard to believe you can get a meal for that little money... but that's good, because you're probably dropping a few hundred dollars on the stuff in that over flowing yellow bag you have. Everything is conditional on its context. I wouldn't be as happy with this meal if I was paying $50 at a nice date spot...now, in the middle of furniture shopping? And for a total of about $15? Yep, I think it will do just fine. I think it does well to judge this strictly as a fast food restaurant, except instead of only getting a warm burger you have the option of smoked salmon. A positive for me was the number of pescaterian options. We got the smoked salmon sandwich, smoked salmon platter and fries. The salmon in the sandwich was chopped into small pieces and condimented. The platter came with whole slices of lox. Both totally worth it for their respective prices of a couple of bucks. I fully endorse their nordic raspberry sparkling drink from the soda fountain. It's not too sweet, a little bit sour and full of carbonation. After several (way too many) hours of wondering around Ikea we went for coffee. The exhaustion was REAL. The lady at the counter told us that if we were ikea family members (answer: yes) we would get coffee and tea for free. The membership is free and comes with some other perks (e.g. dine for free if you also make an ikea purchase of over x in specific time periods). Score! read more

During the weekends, the lunch lines are always long but they move pretty fast. I ordered the regular swedish meatballs with veggies and mac n cheese as sides. I don't know if they changed the recipe but the food taste "healthier" than it did a few years ago when I visited. Before leaving, I also stopped downstairs for a 75¢ hot dog and a $1 cinnamon bun. Snack of champs! Tip: don't sit near the colored chairs upstairs, that's the kids area. It's super loud unless you're looking for that kinda atmosphere. read more

The hubs and I had to stop by IKEA to look at some desk pieces, but to get some fuel in preparation for the furniture-hunt, we decided to get some breakfast at the IKEA Restaurant & Cafe. Located on the 2nd floor, right off of the entrance escalator, there is a gigantic area to dine-in. I had the Gravad Lax with Bagel (this was already 'pre-assembled' on a plate, with a regular sliced bagel, a little individual-sized cream cheese, and two slices of the lax, sprinkled with some dill; I just wished that there was an option for the bagel to be toasted or warmed! The cream cheese was barely enough for the larger bagel, but the lax was pretty tasty), and the hubs had the Swedish American Breakfast (this came with two Swedish pancakes, scrambled eggs, two turkey sausages, and breakfast potatoes; I wasn't a fan of the Swedish pancakes or the lingonberry sauce (had a funny taste to them), but the breakfast potatoes were pretty good). I think I'm more of a fan of just sticking to their Swedish Meatballs, as they are little mounds of juicy goodness with the perfect amount of gravy! :D When you stand in line, you just grab a large tray; if you are a family of 3+, there is a little 'tray' cart to add multiple trays so you don't have to carry any (perfect for those with children). Service was quick and efficient, and there are some condiments and silverware up by the cashier. Once you're done, you drop off your used plates/trays at the tray kiosk and go on your merry way. Yes, most people, obviously, think of IKEA as a furniture store (and, a good one at that). However, the restaurant and café on the second floor actually is a rather convenient place to grab a quick meal (and not just on the tail end of a shopping trip). On the odd weeknight after work or anytime passing through on Interstate 95 or 495, visiting just for the restaurant and café itself is a more than acceptable proposition. Like the famous furniture, the meals are easily "self-assembled." The cafeteria-style restaurant offers a range of entrée options, side items, and desserts. Customers just need to get in line, grab a tray, gawk at the choices, and decide on an appealing combination. My recent meal at IKEA, which was a reprieve and quite spontaneous, consisted of a range of seemingly disparate choices: their signature Swedish meatballs (served with gravy and lingonberry jam), panko crusted tilapia (served with lemon pesto sauce), sides of mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, and steamed broccoli, a slice of garlic bread, and a cream cake with pink marzipan for dessert. I can't say the food was exceptional. The meatballs, which are a can't-miss item there, were barely lukewarm. Although this was the case, the creamy gravy and tart lingonberries more than bolstered the disappointing meatballs. The mash potatoes, which were smooth and creamy, also featured chunky bits of skin mixed in that resulted in a pleasing contrast in textures. The tilapia wasn't very crispy and tasted a bit over processed. The lemon pesto sauce that accompanied it, which could have jazzed up the dish, was rather tame and irrelevant. The broccoli was cold and a bit soggy. The mac & cheese turned out to be the best side as it was firm, cheesy, and of a good consistency. The garlic bread, actually, was notable too. Its fluffy interior and garlicky-buttery flavor showcased what good garlic bread should be. The cream cake with pink marzipan, which ended the meal, featured a raspberry and vanilla custard filling that outdistanced the mostly dry and almost crumbly surrounding cake. Overall, I went home more or less satisfied but, certainly, not impressed. It was what it was (inexpensive, mass produced cafeteria food). In the end, my meal, certainly, was better than heating up a Stouffer's frozen dinner in the microwave oven or ordering takeout at a Chinese restaurant for the umpteenth time (with increasingly numb taste buds nearly ready to revolt). Anyway, I can, at least, say that I've had Swedish food. I can cross it off my bucket list (right there alphabetically between reminders to visit Schenectady, New York and to go skiing in Switzerland). read more

This IKEA cafe is just OK. It's pretty standard for the food, but the whole place is frequently very dirty with unfriendly employees. The machines for water or coffee also seem to be frequently not working, though they have multiples so it's usually not a problem. The food and coffee (free with family card) is certainly a good deal, but many times it's hard to find a place to sit as the seating area is so filthy. We still have coffee and cake most times we go, but the dirtiness doesn't make it a particularly relaxing experience. read more

My husband and I stopped in for an early dinner before shopping yesterday. We were pleased by the menu selection because our local Ikea locations in NJ weren't this varied. We ordered the 15 piece meatballs with mashed potatoes, lingonberry sauce and gravy, a side of cornbread ($1), the 2-piece Maryland crab cakes with veggies and rice, the midsummer salad (romaine lettuce with strawberries, blueberries, canned tangerines and canned pineapples with a side of poppyseed dressing), and a slice of strawberry shortcake. The meatballs with mash and sauce was great! The crab cakes were okay. It came with an overpowering tartar sauce that gave it some extra oomph, but you can't expect too much for just $10. The salad was surprisingly good and everything tasted fresh (except the canned fruits). The cornbread was nice and lightly toasted. The strawberry shortcake bordered on being cloyingly sweet, and this is from someone with a sweet tooth! We asked for water glasses and it was free from the fountains. We found some dirty tables so we had to keep walking through the dining area until we could find a clean spot. (I hate when people can't be bothered to bus their own table like EVERYONE else!) We left feeling pretty satisfied and were ready to conquer the Ikea sales floor. This is a super convenient food option and an excellent idea on Ikea's part because furniture shopping can get quite stressful and laborious on an empty stomach. read more

I used to live around the corner from the White Marsh location. That location used to serve free breakfast (scrambled eggs, fried potatoes and sausage) on Monday mornings from 9:30 until 11 AM. Most locations still offer free breakfast on national holidays and today was no exception. I got in line at 10:48. Two minutes later one of the staff members came and put up the chains, closing the line. Even the two servers were bewildered about why the line was cut off ten minutes early. read more

It's a cafeteria but it's so convenient. And so cheap. I've been there a number of times with granddaughter and/or husband and/or sister. There's a nice selection of family friendly and healthy food. This past time we were there we ordered 2 tilapias with rice and vegetables; a chicken tenders with fries; and 2 salads. The chicken was fine; the fries really good; the tilapia more sautéed than fried, as described; rice was tasty; and vegetables were okay. The salads were good. For 3 people, with drinks, for less than $22 it was all fine. The café opens at 9:30, the store at 10:00. Before the store opens, the coffee is free. And there is a $1.99 breakfast which is a major bargain. A few times we've eaten breakfast there and some tables are filled with a retirement group of men who I figure come from Riderwood, which is nearby. It's not fine dining, but it's fair and honest and they move you right a long. And they have a lot of mommy/daddy friendly features. Oh, and Tuesdays kids meals are free. read more

Pleasantly surprised and proof that looks can be deceiving. So if you're looking for a bite to eat during your shopping at IKEA, the cafe has tons of options from soups to salads to hot meals, and even desserts. Of course I got the Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes and gravy, which was excellent. My friends both got the short rib meal, which I tried some of and it was really good too. I can't complain that the entire bill was only like 24 bucks for 3 adults, which you could spend just as much at at a fast food joint for less quality food. So the price satisfied me here. Now is this a place I'm going to go out of my way to dine at even if I don't need to be at IKEA? Of course not. But whenever I have some shopping to do, then I'll definitely make sure I'm hungry so I can have a meal here. 4/5. read more

In order to gird ourselves for the always wearying maze of visual/tactile stimulation that is IKEA, my friend and I immediately headed to the IKEA cafe upon parking. (Don't get me wrong, IKEA is one of my favorite places, but one must admit that it becomes draining after several hours.) Merely stepping foot into the restaurant made me feel like I had been transported to Sweden itself, what with those foreign multi-layered carts to transport your trays of food as well as the sparse, practical ambiance. Actually, I think a lot of IKEA's appeal has to do with the font that they use on all their menus, products, etc.; it's very friendly and round-looking. The set-up was slightly deceiving: there appeared to be two lines so we chose the one on the left and waited patiently, only to be told that there was no food on that side! Confusion! We then waited in the medium-length line on the other side, while we wondered aloud whether people in the area come to IKEA solely to eat, rather than shop. We had a very cheerful server spoon us ten meatballs, gravy, and mashed potatoes. His positivity was surprising, as one can imagine that working in the IKEA cafeteria could lead to some grumpiness. Alongside two juice boxes (elderflower and, of course, lingonberry), our total bill rung up to $7.39. The salad bar, salmon and cupcakes all looked a bit sad. It was an easy decision to choose the meatballs. The little meatballs reminded me of hot dogs, in that they tasted very processed. They were also very soft and spongey. To be sure, I did enjoy my meatballs, but I did stop to think whether I was eating horse meat or some other such undesirable animal. The real highlight was the elderflower juice, which tasted like sophisticated grape juice. Although the juicebox container revealed that there was 0% juice inside (unlike the 10% juice in the lingonberry juicebox), I really embraced the fake-ness regardless. It would be an excellent mixer. I do wish that they sold the famous IKEA cinnamon rolls & ice cream in the restaurant, instead of downstairs by the checkout counter. When I first moved to DC, I was staying in this crappy little Airbnb with five strangers. My room was about the size of a closet, and it was insanely depressing. The kitchen was too gross to cook in, so I used to come to this Ikea just to have somewhere clean and inviting to hang out. The cheap prices at the cafe didn't hurt, either. Yeah, the meatballs might have some horse meat in them, but they're delicious anyway. Ikea family members get free coffee and tea refills, but my beverage of choice is always 50% lingonberry juice, 50% Sprite, 100% delicious. So we pulled right in and went to the cafeteria. We both got meatballs which came with Wax and green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy and lingonberries. The waffles are good they are not super fanatics but they are good enough to eat again! They come with strawberry jam and whipped cream! 1.99 The coffee is basic yet good! I thought I saw a latte machine... but FREE Coffee will grab your attention as well! There is also a basic American breakfast of sausage ( chicken ?) eggs and potatoes for 1.00. Am of course they have smoked salmon not my thing but if it is they have it! Next time your headed over grab breakfast here it's cheap, and good! You'll def. work up an appetite when you go furniture shopping. IKEA actually has pretty decent food. They have a ton of combination platters ranging from salmon to swedish meatballs to salads to chicken tenders. You grab whatever you want in line from appetizzer to dessert. The prices are really reasonable and they always have weekly specials too. it's great for kids and big families. I appreciate their cool carts for multiple trays (you can put like 4 trays on a cart so you don't have to carry them on when you have little kids). My stomach may not have reacted the best to the food after... but it all tasted very good! I had the swedish meatballs with soup and mashed potatoes. You can get special discounts if you spend a certain amount of money at IKEA too. read more
