A while back, my family & I came here to celebrate my mom's birthday. We really enjoyed the food. The complimentary bread w/ the vinegar dipping sauce is delicious! Everything we ordered was well-made & flavorful. My main criticism is the service on busier days. The food can take quite a while to come out. The staff is kind, but could be slightly more attentive on busier days, as it can be harder to flag them down for help. I've also ordered takeout a few times & they're more timely, usually having it ready within 30 minutes. The dining area has a nice atmosphere, clean modern look but the bathrooms don't match quite match. They have a beautiful outside seating and pretty indoor seating. I usually see people reserving the outside area for a special event (bridal shower, graduation party, etc.). My all-time favorite items to get here are the Gamberetto Rosa/Shrimp Pasta, Carbonara, and Funghi Pizza. When you order an entree, you get their complimentary fluffy, airy bread which is the same dough used for their pizzas. I've also tried the Il Fiora Cioppino, Gorgonzola Pizza (which comes with honey), Spicy & Honey Pizza (has pepperoni, jalapeño, and honey) and the Bistecca Di Controfiolletto (USDA Prime Rib-eye). Second time at Il Fiora in Buena Park, and we came back for one reason--the carbonara. It's surprisingly hard to find a spot that serves it with the egg yolk on top, so having a place nearby that does it right keeps us coming back. Still just as good as we remembered. We also shared a margherita pizza, which was delicious, and ended up with plenty of leftovers (always a win). Paired everything with a nice Pinot Noir, and it made for a great meal overall. We did come pretty close to closing time, so service wasn't quite as strong as the first visit--but it also wasn't very busy, so it seemed like they were just wrapping up for the night. Both pastas were delicious, the sauces were rich, creamy, buttery, and full of flavor. If you like mushrooms, I definitely recommend the truffle gnocchi. We've been to this restaurant several times with our baby and have always been allowed to bring our stroller inside, so we were very surprised when we were suddenly told today that strollers were not allowed due to "policy." Our baby was asleep in the stroller, so rather than wake him up or argue about it, we simply said that was fine and decided to leave without dining. What made the experience unacceptable was what happened as we were leaving. An employee, who I believe was named Donna, appeared to laugh and make fun of the situation as we walked out. My husband noticed it as well and was so upset by how unprofessional and disrespectful it felt that he asked to speak with a manager. We understand that restaurants are allowed to have policies, and if the stroller policy has changed, that is their decision. But there is absolutely no reason for an employee to mock or laugh at customers especially parents quietly leaving because their sleeping baby could not remain in the stroller. We had been repeat customers and could have simply accepted the policy and moved on. Instead, the employee's behavior turned an inconvenience into an extremely unpleasant experience. Our group of 4 came for lunch around 1:30pm on a Friday, and the place was nearly empty. The space feels modern and upscale, and service was attentive. Our waiter checked in often and refilled waters, and the food came out quickly. We ordered family style: calamari, di mare pomodoro, garlic pancetta risotto, and the fungi pizza. Prices were high, with most dishes over $20. After reading other reviews before coming in, I found that the food did not have the Korean flavors or influence some had suggested. - Bread (complementary): Made from pizza dough, which was a unique. It came out warm, fluffy, and slightly chewy, and we appreciated the free refills with oil and vinegar. - Calamari: The thick-cut rings were tender rather than chewy, with a light, crisp breading. It was well fried but fairly plain in flavor and didn't come with tentacles, just rings. - Di mare pomodoro: It's a spaghetti with mussels, shrimp, scallops, and calamari in a tomato sauce. The sauce was acidic and tangy, which complemented the seafood, but it tasted fairly basic. The seafood itself was cooked well, though portions were small. There were only three shrimps in the entire plate. - Garlic Panceta risotto: The fan favorite of the table! It was rich and creamy with a deep, savory flavor. We sat outside and they had all the heaters on so it was actually quite toasty, had to take off my jacket and my face felt flush. I ordered the Di Mare Pomodoro - It was $22 menu price but after my + Shrimp + Extra Seafood + Mushrooms it was $44. While that was pretty pricey, my dish was HUGE when it came out. It dwarfed many of the other plates others ordered. It was very tasty too, I was initially concerned with the tomato sauce base to be plain but I guess with all my extra umami it was superb! There were tons of seemingly specialty mushrooms, I am not familiar with that had great bite to them. Though the menu said there was scallop in this dish and I did not find any at all. That was disappointing. Seeing other people's dishes though, it seems like many others were misses but I was definitely happy with my dish. I tasted their meatball and it was BAD. The free bread is the same dough as the pizzas and they must have a solid oven as they looked wonderful. Dough could have proofed longer for more flavor and texture development but it was cooked well. The calamari dish was pure blasphemy for an Italian place...
