I just got back from Seoul and I miss the local food. I looked up a Korean restaurant and from the reviews this was very traditional and it did not disappoint. I walked in and it is a very small restaurant and cosy. Two ladies run the restaurant and they are very attentive J ordered the Kimchi with bacon ham and tofu and it was delicious. It reminded me of Seoul for sure. The service is efficientX fast and accurate. If you want a traditional meal, look no further just pay attention as it is easy to miss. read more

I usually go to this place if I want a quick korean food. I recently went this weekend right after their re-opening. I ordered the Fish intestine soup and took half to go, i didnt notice while i was eating at the restaurant but when I reheated my leftover the next day, i actually found roach/ate the roach and ended up throwing up since i felt a crunch when there should have not been any "crunchy" texture to that particular soup. Spat it out and saw the roach I just chewed... I am disappointed and most likely will not return for some time or not at all. read more

Really delicious food! Enjoyed everything I've had here. I usually get the jap chae which is delicious and includes tender pieces of beef and yummy noodles and vegetables. This visit I tried something a little different and opted for the fried mackerel. It's a whole fish, bone-in, and deep fried. Very good! The fish itself is on the oily side but naturally good flavor. I also enjoy all the side dishes. The kimchi, fish cakes, and potatoes are my favorite. They refill them for you however often you need them. My dad had the bibimbap with bulgogi, he loved it. Also got the goat stew to go along with bulgogi. The inside is quaint and kinda small. Two nice ladies seemed to be managing the whole restaurant so service was a little slow at times, especially when it got busy for lunch. Tucked away and so easy to miss, but the food was delicious. It reminded me of eating in Seoul which I really miss. Service is as expected. They are not overly attentive but it was that way when I was in Korea so again, expected. If you need something, its not impolite to call a server over to you. When walking in I like that, there was a sanitization station that you must do before you get seated. I came for the lunch special, which didn't disappoint. There were two nice women who was running the lunch hour. They were both friendly. I wanted to try something new and I really liked my noodle dish. They were able to accommodate a large group on a Sunday afternoon which was great. I wasn't a huge fan of the bi bim bop. I thought it was coming in a stone bowl but maybe I misunderstood/misordered. I don't eat meat and the only substitute they have for the beef bulgogi was tofu, which was great because I love tofu. But they just cut up some cold tofu and threw it on top unseasoned, un-anything-ed. I feel like they could have done something with it. Everyone else loved their dishes and all the meat, so I'd say this is not a place for vegetarians. The banchan were really yummy though! read more

This feels like going to eomma's house and eating some cozy home cooking. The location is a bit weird as it's in a plaza with educational centers like some kind of performing arts academy, and the exterior looks quite old. However, the inside is fairly well maintained and looks much more like a restaurant than when walking in. The service is decent and the waitresses speak Korean. I came fairly early and there were already quite a few people inside on a Monday night--people kept coming in, both Korean speakers and non-Koreans, which is a good sign! Soondae plate: I disappointed that it was just soondae and not the livers/innards that sometimes come with this dish, but it happens. The soondae is more on the rice-y side (every restaurant's soondae is slightly different in terms of ingredient ratios), but flavor was good and it didn't have that weird taste that some soondaes have (I'm not sure how to say this in english). I think having this as soondaeguk may be better as it'll be nice and soaked in the broth, along with the innards. However, it's still nice on its own--nice and soft, and tasty with the seasoned salt. Sul lung tang: I haven't had sul lung tang since I left LA (we are so spoiled with Ktown), so this was a treat. The broth was flavorful and the meat they used seems to be beef tongue, which is nice. As with traditional sul lung tang, it comes pretty much without salt and you add it in yourself. There was a good amount of meat and I was quite full after having this. I also dunked my soondae in here to make a quasi-soondae guk of sorts, which was also really tasty. Banchan: This is where I think it could be a liiiiiiiittle better--it's still all fine, but I felt like the pickled items could be a little pickle-ier, everything a wee bit more flavorful. The kimchi is more like the fresh kimchi, though I prefer the older, more sour kimchi--this is a personal preference though. I do like that they give many varieties of banchan though, but everything was just okay. On that note, everything really does remind me of eomma. My eomma is not the best cook, she's not a chef, but she has been making her food for a while and you just get used to it. It's not the absolute best I've ever had (though some dishes probably are), but they're all solid and leaves you with that cozy, warm, soothing feeling in your tummy. There aren't too many Korean restaurants that I'm aware of in this area, so this was a real gem to find. I'd definitely come again and try their other dishes too. read more

My halmeoni opened this location when she immigrated to the US in the 70's, and later sold it to the owners now. My halmeoni passed three years ago this October and whenever I come into Il Mee for a meal it feels like sitting down at her kitchen table again. The food is incredible every single time. I went for lunch on a Sunday. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming. I was greeted straight away by the friendly staff. When I arrived there were only a few tables occupied, but when I left it was nearly packed, and there was a decent amount of Togo customers as well and the staff stayed on top of things. Do yourself a favor and try the Gahl bi. It is worth the price, some of the most tender beef I have ever had, and I'll definitely be back for more. read more

I ate at this restaurant last Wednesday. Walked in around 6 pm and only one table was taken. By the time we finished, the place was packed around 8 pm. Service initially was a bit slow, but was worth it. The fresh side dishes were quite delicious especially the radish kimchi and regular cabbage kimchi. I ordered the spicy beef intestine stew and it was enough for two or three people. The broth, noodles, and vegetables in it were tasty, but the beef intestine was meh... Overall, enjoyed eating there with some old friends I haven't seen in a few years. read more

Wow! I mean wow. If you're in the mood for some amazing Korean food, please look no further. Typically all the heavy hitters when it comes to Asian food are on Buford highway. This gem is located in the Kennesaw/Marietta area. This isn't a Korean BBQ spot so don't expect that. But it is an exception restaurant. One thing that caught my eye was the seating. They had a section of the restaurant that had traditional seating at a table and they also had floor seating which I thought was cool and authentic. But you're not here to read about the restaurants floor plan. The food?!? AMAZING! We ordered the scallion pancake, spicy pork, and the bulgogi. All were amazing. The seafood in the scallion pancake tasted so fresh. The bulgogi was seasoned amazingly and unbelievably tender. The Spicy Pork...sensational. Ban chan was a good variety. Unfortunately the soon do bu (tofu stew) was watery and lack in flavor. It also threw me off with chunky onions and mushrooms in it. We had our first experience here tonight. We've been looking for a good Korean place that wasn't all you can eat. This hit the spot! The beef and pork portions were huge! Both were delicious. They have chair seats and also floor seats. It's a small place but we had good service. If you haven't discovered this hidden gem, then you're missing out. Located in a not so conventional area on Cobb Pkwy (literally surrounded by business, a law firm and warehouse), is Il Mee. This place has been here for a long time and their food can attest to this. We came early for dinner and was seated right away to a very empty restaurant. The servers are older Korean ladies and they were both very sweet. I ordered the kimchi jiggae. Our banchan were served with our entrees (other places serve banchan first, kind of like how they serve bread at steakhouses). Tonight's banchan included two different kinds of cucumber, fish cake, kimchi, potatoes, bean sprouts, radish. Our favorites were the kimchi and fish cake. My soup was so good and tasty. I don't know if it was the kimchi but it just elevated the soup flavor. It had tons of pork pieces though I wish it had more tofu pieces. This was served with rice as well. Overall, such a great place to go to if you're in the area and don't want to drive to Buford Hwy or Gwinnett for authentic Korean fares. read more

I believe we had the best Korean food I have eaten outside Korea itself. ( the only exception was a Korean restaurant in Dhahran) The pork bulgogi was delicious. The four of us all tried different entrees. Each was excellent. I especially enjoyed the pork but the chicken was equally delicious. Try all the spices and kimchi that are available with the food. Each is served in a small bowl and are a great complement for the dish. Sitting on the floor is impossible as I don't think I could get up. It does provide a cultural experience with the low tables. I think children will enjoy this. But the chairs at the tables were fine. Do not let the exterior of this restaurant either put you off or underestimate the food. There is no better Korean food in Atlanta. read more

Great place to eat for lunch. Price is very affordable for what you get. They have lunch and dinner menu. Even their lunch menu comes with banchan and it was all really good. I was tempted to ask for more but I ordered the bim bim bop and that filled me up! Very authentic Korean food made by Korean older ladies. My rule of thumb on how you can tell when a place is good is when they have their own people eating the native cuisine being served. From the outside this place looks like a hole in the wall partly because they have cheap faded signage out front, but when you go inside, it's not as bad looking. Still a hole in the wall though. They even have the floor seating if you want to eat true Korean style. Over all the food, price, and portion is why I gave it high stars read more

Interior / Exterior My navigation (both car and phone) are starting to let me down more and more lately. I will get the 'you've arrived at your destination' while I'm staring at empty lot or bunch of trees. I knew the general area and I've driven up and down this stretch of Cobb Pkwy for over a decade, but I tend not to really look around at the various businesses. I wasn't terribly surprised when I got the notification that I'd arrived while I was sitting at the traffic light for Industrial Pkwy at Cobb Pkwy. I turned right and wound up having to turn around and loop back. If you're traveling north on Cobb Pkwy, they are after Industrial Pkwy traffic light intersection, on the right in a small 'strip mall' with TruPrep. Food I ordered the 'spicy pork' aka pork bulgogi. I told my server that I planned to order a beef bibimbap (recommended by my buddy), but I never got the chance. More on that later. I asked for water in a 'to go' cup and she told me they didn't have 'to go' cups, so I told her never mind. She brought me water anyway. The presentation of my meal was lovely. The pork was presented on a sizzling cast iron skillet. The meal included rice and 7 vegetable sides separated into little bowls: bean sprouts, daikon radish, cucumbers, fish cake, zucchini, potatoes and kimchi. The pork was tender and well-seasoned. Customer Service Customer service was little odd. My server spoke very little English. She shouted hello and asked 'how many' from nearly 20 feet away, so she wasn't rude, but ultimately, she was super inattentive. I showed her a picture on my phone that a Yelper had labeled pork bulgogi and asked if they still had it. And she said I think so. I asked if this was it in the photo and continued to hold the phone. She said "I guess," then leaned forward and squinted and said, 'yes, that's it.' I told her I didn't see it on the menu and asked if there was another menu (dinner menu versus lunch menu, perhaps). She said no, there was only one menu and the dish was called 'spicy pork.' Once she dropped the food off, it was over 30 minutes before I saw her again. And I'm not exaggerating. I kept thinking, she'll be back to check on another table and I'll get her attention. Nope. I finally pressed the table-side button. Still no response. Initially, I wanted to ask about some of sides. I have food allergies and I wasn't able to identify the radish or the fish cakes at first. Later, I wanted to ask for fork and extra napkins and put my 'to go' order in. Lol. (I was given chopsticks and a spoon and I was able to pick up nearly everything, including my rice using my chopsticks, but I couldn't manage my potatoes.) After 35 minutes, she finally appeared nearby to give the table behind me their check. I turned to get her attention and when she came over, I asked for some extra napkins and a to go box. She came back right away with a 'to go' box and the check (that I did not ask for) and no napkins, then sprinted off before I could give her the bibimbap order. I got up and went to the back for napkins. I couldn't find my server but, when asked, another server gave me ONE inexpensive, C-fold paper napkin. When I asked if I could please have some more, she gave me one more napkin. These are thinner and less wide than the C-fold napkins you find in public bathroom dispensers. I found her refusal to give me a decent amount of napkins strange. There was a nearly 2 foot tall stack of napkins right there and I had restrain myself from invading her space and just grabbing a stack of them. I envisioned myself running off with them and her tackling me from behind and snatching them away from - and smiled at the thought of it. Several people did shout (from WAAAAAY in the back of the restaurant) 'thank you' and 'bye' as I left. I smiled and shouted back, 'thank you, goodbye.' Price / Value I feel like the price was fair. Like others have stated - they are SERIOUS about their tips here. The have the receipts with the 'suggested tip amounts' and the lowest tip suggestion is 20% - which was fine because you've got to do something pretty awful for me tip less than 20%. But my server had used a big, bulky purple magic marker to draw brackets around the suggested tip section. I found that a bit tacky and off-putting, especially in light of the fact that my overall ticket, and subsequently the tip, would have been higher if she'd come back so I could place the 'to go' order. Overall I enjoyed my meal, but I would not go back unless it was for takeaway because I didn't enjoy the customer service. read more

I grabbed a quick takeout order one afternoon, and I'm itching to get back for a proper sit-down meal with my family! First, this place is legit authentic Korean. No fusion, no hipster vibe, this is down-home ajumma-run Korean food. The good stuff. Decor is simple, dining room is packed. There are 3 sit-on-the-floor tables available along with many more chair-tables. The selection is pretty good without being too overwhelming for the kitchen, imo. The food we got (japchae and ox tail soup) was done well, though I did think the japchae a bit oversalted. I'm looking forward to trying their cold noodles, galbi, and bibimbap. The staff, though busy, was really kind and showed me where I could sit with my toddlers while I waited for our food. One lady even brought my kids lollypops, which I thought was just so sweet. Logistics: There's a 1-person bathroom at the back. The restaurant itself is very unassuming - just a whole in the wall with a small parking lot shared with another random store. This is a diamond in the rough. The outside put me off for years. When you go inside totally different story. Very cute and comfortable. They've been in operation since 1989. Food was authentic and very good. You also get with your meal small dishes of Korean types of little salads. Kimchi, daikon radish etc. we ended our meal with a mango & melon cream sickle delicious. The food and service were amazing! I loved sitting on the traditional Korean seating. They have regular tables for ADA complain very folks. What I ordered below: Yaki mando- triangle fired egg roll. Delicious filled with meat and cabbage and spices served with a side of delicious sauce made with scallions sesame oil and maybe rice vinegar and a mild spice. Very delicious! 10/10 N1: jap cheh- these noodles were amazing. Came mixed with cabbage, carrots, mushrooms. The beef was seasoned deliciously and flavorful. 10/10 B1 Bul Go gi: very flavorful cooked to perfection beef that came with rice and all sorts of delicious sides. My favorite were the potatoes and kimchi. 10/10 S2 Ga jea mi: Flash fried flounder was great. I would say this was a bit on the salty side but so soft and fried to perfection. Authentic Korean that's not KBBQ in Cobb County? This is the spot We had the soon da bo and spicy pork Bulgogi, couldn't of been more delicious. Includes many ban Chan options and they are willing to refill them for you at no charge! I'm a big fan of the bean sprouts Small location and even has seating where you can sit indian style on the floor. Don't expect the best service in your life, but the ladies are nice and attentive.
