We ordered pizza here on a recommendation from a tour guide...but were a little disappointed. The ingredients are fresh and taste good, and pizzas are made to order. Our pizza looked good, but one of our toppings were left off when we came to pick up, after calling ahead with in our order. It was taken back over the counter and after adding the missing topping to the top of an already finished pizza...it was never re-fired or reheated in the oven....so that was strike one. Also, I know that there is a place for thin crust pizza, and I have come to realize that is not my favorite type of pizza to have, but I have had thin crust before, and this was not the best. Then we had the meatball appetizer, the portion was good, but the meatballs were dry and lacked taste (a bit over cooked) - strike two. Otherwise, its a neat little spot where you can not only get pizza but sandwiches and desserts and enjoy all those eats seated inside or outside. She helped me choose toppings to my preferred liking and gave me many, clearly memorized, options. The thin crust, the spinach, and bacon combined made me fall in love. I went in to the Main St. location the afternoon of Friday, 3/5/21 and was utterly disgusted by the 2 young men working there. They wear gloves to keep nasty germs off your food right? No they wear gloves to fake you out. Both guys never changed their gloves after handing paper money, coins and people's charge cards (the guy took mine because the card machine on my side wasn't working). I do not usually rate any business one star but I Stopped in for a slice of pizza and they put in the microwave to heat it up for over a minute. When you add in the poor service and the don't I give a darn attitude, I had to post my experience. We have been ordering pizza from here every Friday for a few months. It's a bit pricey, but the pizza is always huge and lasts us all weekend. It's always been really good too! We decided to try the calzones tonight and we won't be making that mistake again. They were the smallest calzones I have ever seen, two of them fit into a small pizza box (like a personal size pizza box) and they were still $18.50 each with the topping we picked. They were mediocre tasting and we didn't receive any red/marinara sauce with it. I'm from up North and used to New York style pizza and calzones and this calzone was nothing like what I'm used to. It's definitely not the worst place to visit, but you probably won't enjoy a visit here. It's confusing. No one says a word to you and you have to ask where and how to order. Or where your food comes out - I found mine waiting on a random counter. They're not friendly. The kind of customer service where, once eye contact is finally made with a staff member, they nod and just wait (impatiently) for you to talk. It's dirty. I ate at an outside table. Sauce was acidic, like from a can and no fresh basil, lacking in cheese (likely part skim not whole milk) and lastly is there a vegetable shortage... This is a very weak 3 star rating. Il Panifico's food was excellent. When we got there, we sat outside because it was a beautiful day out and they had multiple tables to choose from. We sat outside for about 10 minutes and realized there was no outside service. So we went inside and sat. After a few minutes we also realized there was no inside service. Maybe that should be mentioned somewhere? Anyway, once you get up and order your food, and have the opportunity to sit back down to eat the food, it's fantastic. It's not necessarily very clean inside or outside, but again, the food was very good. They do offer free refills on soda, which is nice. And once you're prepared for the lack of service, then you know what you're getting and no surprises. It seems like it's probably a great place for carry out. Don't, however, show up 45 minutes before closing time and expect anything besides reheated pizza that appears to have been sitting out all day. We can walk to this restaurant from our condo so it was our go to for pizza but this experience really rubbed me the wrong way. 45 minutes before closing is unacceptable to not be able to make us a fresh pizza! 15 minutes, maybe, but not 45! This is my favorite pizza place. They have the thin crust, which I love. It is a rolled out crust, not a cracker like some of the other thin crusts. I love getting mine with ricotta cheese, meat, and veggies. They have delicious desserts but they are expensive. I bought me and my husband chocolate mousse towers and it costs $12!! Crust was perfect, sauce truly tasty, and for dessert I picked up Chocolate Mousse. For a great Downtown Sarasota location I expected a better lunch experience! I'm not impressed with this location! First of all, there's no management. Everyone was ordering a slice of pizza in mixed orders! You walk up to the counter before someone walks in and they get service first by requesting something from the pizza maker and not the counter person. It is clearly disorganized to say the least! I order two slices of pizza and two drinks and it cost me $12.35!! What are you telling me Il Panificio your pizzas made of gold?? Sure it may taste better than frozen pizzas but I'm sorry, not $4.75 a slice plus the sodas!!! You can certainly get the same or even better quality pizza down the street and for a full size pizza for what I paid for just two slices here! The counter person had trouble keeping up with payments!! She took a man's debt card and charged him for what I think another person's order!! And btw - this is supposed to be an Italian Bakery establishment, right? Where's the zeppole? Don't you know it's an Italian tradition to sell zeppole during Saint Joseph's Day? Used to be our favorite. We had a weird experience. Called them several times over a 30 minute period with no answer. Decided to order from their new Location instead. Placed order after letting them know the other location wasn't answering. The new location said their phone was always having issues so they would get our order back to them. This was something sorta in-between with crunch. I felt like I was eating a greasy cracker with toppings. I was expecting something really tasty with all the topping choices. It really wasn't. No flavor, needed salt, sauce was mediocre. I swear they had dumped a whole bottle of olive oil on the pizza. Lots of my friends enjoy this place so I guess my review is just a personal choice.
