My husband and I visited Il Radicchio for the first time the other night and had a nice time. It's a very small restaurant, probably 15 tables max, but it was full on a Saturday night with a line waiting that moved quickly. It's a cozy place, but the tables for 2 are quite small if you're against the wall...small enough that you don't feel like you have enough space for all the items on the table. My husband and I sat down with two menus and a wine menu, and before we even spoke with a waiter someone came by and picked up the wine menu off the table...which was odd because we planned to order a bottle of wine. We noticed other tables had bread but we were never brought or offered any. We were a little bit ignored but not to the point that it was rude. We ordered the prosciutto wrapped scallops, caprese with prosciutto, the chicken parm, and a make your own pasta. All of the food tasted good, I liked that the chicken parm is grilled instead of breaded, it gave it a nice twist on a classic. My husband didn't think his pasta was cooked well, he thought it was a little overdone, but not bad enough to send it back. Overall it was a fine dinner, we agreed if we were craving Italian food we would go there, but wouldn't actively choose to go on a random day. read more

I have been eating at Il Radicchio for many, many years - from the time when there were many Il Radicchio's spread throughout the DC area. It is a solid place at a good price! This last visit tells me that this last lonely location is on its last legs. I know that it will be closing soon to make way for a new condo building. The truth is that this restaurant should not come back. Every meal is a little disappointing. The ambiance of the dining room is severely lacking. The service is not up to decent standards. The food is okay but nothing more or less. I hate to see something from my long-gone youth go away. And I hate that another generation will not experience the good food and the good times that I experienced at Il Radicchio (all of them). But, it is time to say goodbye! Good spot for when you're craving Italian food like my family was the other night. We stopped in earlier in the evening, and it was pretty empty, which made for a quiet and relaxing dining experience. It picked up later in the evening, with more people preferring the outdoor seating it seemed. My parents loved their dishes and my chicken parm was also very good though notably it was grilled chicken and not breaded - not what I was expecting, but delicious nonetheless. It was a hot day, a very hot day. We walked into Il Radicchio sweaty and hungry, and were met immediately with open seats and cold ice water (fantastic service right in the door). The menu provided a unique challenge of being too customizable, despite this struggle we landed on trying the ravioli and making a cheese calzone with both pesto and red sauce to dip. We were blown away by the high quality flavor and fantastic presentation. I am already a huge ravioli fan in general but the mushroom ragu sauce paired so nicely with the caramelized onions and goat cheese, I think I could've eaten a bucket of this. A simple cheese calzone may sound silly, but dipping it into the house pesto and red sauce was an out worldly experience (highly recommend). It was packed on a Thursday night, but once the waiter stopped by, our food was out promptly! Good place to stop by for your standard Italian American fair. the salad was a perfect appetizer for me to split with another person to get some greens in. The artichoke ravioli was exactly what I wanted with a nice mushroom sauce that I finished off with the complementary bread. I got a plain calzone, but they have build your own calzones and pizza where you can add whatever you want, which is a nice option. I asked for two sides sauces and they were very generous with a side of marinara sauce and pesto. They were able to accommodate a larger group or two, but would recommend for smaller parties because there aren't too many tables, it's a cozy place but didn't feel too crowded. By way of background, when I was the Norm Peterson of Rhodeside Grill, "The Radish" had changed hands and/or chefs multiple times so they lacked consistency. However, they turned a corner 10 years ago and became a nice little spot. Their pasta dishes were generous in portion and excellent in quality. To be fair, I haven't dined in house but for some time, but I have ordered pizzas to go. As a pizza snob, their pizzas are a cross between Pupatella and Colony Grill. To me, that's gold. In particular, the prices are reasonable for the area. And, even better, if you get a pie to go, stick it in the fridge. When you ready to reheat it, set the oven at 425, wait for the cheese to bubble, and it's even better. read more

It's been a few years and unfortunately I don't think this is a spot for pasta anymore. We came in on a Friday night and the inside wasn't packed at 7. We got smushed next to two other two top tables- I get wanting to save larger tables for other large groups but it's super uncomfortable to be sitting hands distance away in a small back corner when half the rest of the restaurant is empty. Bruschetta is still good but bread basket got smaller. As mentioned, the all you can eat pasta is a rip off- might as well go to Olive Garden. You get all you can eat noodles, which we all know a box of is about 2$ at the store. The least they could do is give 50% off each extra sauce you order to make it slightly worth it. The spaghetti and meatball is just two meatballs cut in half to make it seem like it's 4. Pasta quality was good but meatballs were very grey and grainy. The biggest let down is the lasagna changed completely- while it appears larger, the sauce they use now is completely different than the one we loved from 2017-2022. It had chunks of celery and carrots and just was not good. Maybe a spot to grab pizza from still but definitely no longer a place I'd crave pasta from. read more

I've been trying to find an authentic bolognese in nova (where there's less tomato) and have been struggling to find one. I've strolled by here enough to glimpse the faux candle light flickering off the wine glasses of a merry group of 4 dining on the outdoor patio. It looked warm & inviting. I ordered the chicken parm ($20) + bruschetta ($11). I spotted the all you can eat pasta and suggested it to my partner who was famished. My food was basic and filling. Just as I expected for the price point. What leads me to the poor review is a mixture of their misleading menu + nonchalant attitude of server. When I spotted the "all you can eat pasta", my partner was suspicious, too good to be true. We hailed our server and asked for clarification - crystal clear- it was all you can eat. When my partner tried to flag for his 2nd filling of pasta - woopty do- you're charged for the sauce. We called the server and he backtracks "oh it says on the menu only the noodle". We ask him to point out to us where on the menu it's written---and he searches and says - it's not there. No acknowledgment of the misinformation let alone an apology. I still tipped out of societal pressures. Yes, I can afford the sauce. I want to say it's the principle. But it's more than that. My working poor immigrant parents hated dining out because of all the huge hidden costs + small unsaid cultural etiquettes. I think we went to Chili's twice a year MAX. Be forthcoming with your menu. We came here around 530 on a Friday and were able to get a table with no problem despite it being a small restaurant. The bread is free and great but the real crazy part about this place is the all-you-can-eat pasta. You can get the pasta refills but the sauce will cost you. Talk about a delicious and authentic local Italian spot! I came here to celebrate my birthday on a Friday evening and had the best dinner and dining experience. We started off with the insalate de mele and it was fresh with perfectly ripe grapes and apples topped with a subtle and refreshing Prosecco dressing which I loved. Next we ordered the calamari which was chewier than I expected but was served over a bed of arugula and white beans that added a delicious savory flavor. Then, we split a 12" pizza with fresh mozzarella, olives, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes and a penne salmone. Both were excellent but wow...the penne salmone was my absolute favorite. I could eat it everyday! The food already makes ill radicchio one of the best Italian spots in the DMV, but the indoor ambience of the restaurant adds such charm. BEWARE: My husband got food poising after eating here. He ordered the gnocchi with the sausage. We wondered if it was truly from this establishment so I looked at other yelp reviews and found that this has been a problem for many other diners in the past... I wish we had read those reviews before dining here. Soon after we got home, he had a stomach ache. We figured it was because Italian is heavy so took pepto and gas-x. 2.5 hours after dinner, he started vomiting. The next morning, he has chills and sweats and a fever. It's a nice little hidden gem. Like other Italian Restaurants, they serve bread with olive oil, red pepper flakes, pepper, salt, and parmesan. We really enjoy their Milanese di Pollo dish. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Staff is friendly. Service is a bit slow, probably because it's a small restaurant. As long as you're not in a hurry/starving I think it's fine. There is parking behind the restaurant and parallel street parking nearby (would need to check day/time to see if it's free or need to pay though). Italiano, il mio amore (Italian, my love)! This is a small and humble restaurant with about 13 tables (parking lot in the back). They do not have a bar. They serve beer and wine only. Well, that didn't stop my family and I as we proceeded to order three bottles of wine total throughout our dinner. We were a party of six and had a 5:45pm reservation. We were sat immediately when we arrived and proceeded to have a great time. Our service was attentive and friendly. We started with calamari - it is a grilled version. It comes with white beans and baby arugula. It was great, and a play on textures with the chewy calamari, the thick bite of the white bean and crunch of arugula. It was very good. We also had bread that was toasty and delicious when dipped in olive oil. The savages in my family couldn't get enough of the bread! For our entrees we ordered: lobster ravioli, lasagna, grilled salmon (comes with arugula, asparagus and yellow tomato salad), linguini di mare and salmon in penne. All of of the food was fantastic! I had the linguini di mare, it was in a white sauce, flavorful yet light. I would order this again. No one offered their food - I took this to mean everyone's food was too good to offer to others, lol. At one point, I had something stuck in my tooth and kept sucking and picking at it. I'm a huge fan of homemade gnocchi. My late Italian mom-mom used to make it for me whenever I came to visit, and now I try it almost everyplace I can find it. Il Radicchio's is top notch, and I think it's the best I've had in the DMV. My fiancée had the lasagna which was also among the better lasagnas around. The bruschetta appetizer was pretty good. And the tartuffo al limoncello dessert was fire. The restaurant is cute and cozy with rustic decor. The servers were friendly and ready to make recommendations or answer questions about the menu but not pushy. The pace of service was relaxed: not super fast, leaving time to relax and enjoy the food, but attentive enough that that was more pleasant than bothersome. My friend and I decided to come here after a night in Georgetown for dinner! We called ahead an hour before we got there and got a table for 2 at 8pm. The restaurant is tucked away in this nice little house. When we stepped in, it felt like we were in Italy! Our waiter was very attentive and gave us lots of bread and oil that tasted amazing! I can confidently say that Il Radicchio is the best Italian food I've had in the area. The alfredo sauce is one of my all-time favorite sauces. I frequently compare other alfredo sauces to Il Radicchio's and find myself craving it often. However, the *best* part of Il Radicchio is the all you can eat pasta. Food in this area can often be expensive & sometimes it feels silly to get pasta out as opposed to making it yourself but Il Radicchio makes it worth it! For ~$20 you can get as much pasta as you want, a container of sauce, and a protein add in (I find the chicken delicious & a sizable quantity). I've also gotten the all you can eat pasta delivered and although you get less pasta (since you can't keep getting refills), I was able to have 2 meals out of the pasta & chicken - plus a third with the sauce. It's well worth the price and it's really tasty too. My only downside is the drink menu. The restaurant is beer / wine only and has a somewhat limited menu. Overall, I recommend Il Radicchio anytime of the year - but, sitting outside during with a bottle of wine and unlimited pasta is one of my favorite summer activities! read more

The lobster sherry cream sauce perfectly complemented the flavor of the ravioli, as well as the lobster tail that sat atop the dish. Il Radicchio is a cute small restaurant across the corner from a gas station, but don't underestimate its size. Although I wouldn't call il radicchio traditional Italian cuisine, its still pretty great for an adorable date night before the movies if you're headed up the hill for the amc courthouse! My boyfriend got the lasagna, which came in a huge portion, while I got the mushroom gnocchi. The lasagna was pretty amazing, and the mushroom gnocchi was good, but I think the mushrooms could have been rendered more. The pasta was amazing though! Afterwards, I got the lemon cake for dessert and my boyfriend got tiramisu. The tiramisu was pretty good, although it was more on the sweet side than I would have liked. The lemon cake wasn't my favorite - it kind of tasted like it came straight out of a Marie calendar's pie box, like a frozen cake. But budget wise, the prices aren't too bad.
