I'm giving this place 4 stars, as it rounds out my 4.25 star review. Great little place in Court House, we came here on a Sunday night. When we walked in, there were a couple larger parties waiting, but since we were 2, we were immediately seated. The place was practically full. There was a wide variety of patrons here- spanning from old foreign people to younger yuppies of Arlington. When we sat down, we were greeted with water. The waiter gave us time to think about drinks. My guest wasn't drinking, so I ordered a simple house Cabernet. He took a while to come back, but it wasn't too long, so it turned out fine. We had to ask for bread, which was tasty, as we were both starving. To start, we got zuppa pomodoro, which was simple, but good. Not too exciting. We both devices to get pasta dishes. I got the gnocchi with mushrooms and arugula, which was pretty tasty. The portions here are quite sizable. My guest got the ravioli- which he also enjoyed. We were too stuffed for desert. What I really like about this place is the classic feel. It has good ambience, service and has been a staple in Arlington for a while. I would recommend it to others. I didn't like this place as much as I'd hoped I would. The sauces were absolutely delicious, but everything else left something to be desired. Pasta is pasta, the bread at the beginning was mediocre, and the wine I had by the glass was kind of blah. Perhaps going here for Pizza would be a good idea? Good food. Sub-par service. Two attempted rip-offs? We've gone twice now, and both times have enjoyed sharing a pasta and pizza. (We haven't tried the all-you-can-eat pasta, but have been more than full off the salmon penne and a small pizza.) We also get a bottle of wine. Both times, we've walked away thinking it's a nice cozy place for a date night. Neither of us wants anything fancy, but sharing pasta and wine, whilst wearing jeans, is a perfect date for us. The wine isn't bad at all, although we're no connoiseurs. But the service -- and here's where you should pay attention: It was mediocre last time, and downright bad tonight, plus two attempted rip-offs. When you order pasta, you can add on a salad for $2.99, which we did. When the bill came, it was $6.95, and when we asked, he surprisedly explained that we had ordered the large salad. Hmmm, okay, we obviously didn't, but we'll let that slide. That, and never getting bread, and the fact that our entrees came while we were still finishing our salad (which after years in the business, I would never do myself.) We really would let all that slide, since it was overall a nice evening. But then we gave him our Living Social coupon, which was supposed to knock $20 off our $70 bill. He processed the coupon and our credit card, my husband tipped and signed, and we walked out. A block later, I randomly asked my husband, "so it ended up being $50, right?" And he said, no, it was actually $60. So we walked back, and it turns out, the dude took off the $20, but then added a gratuity, which wasn't there when he originally presented the check. Was he hoping we wouldn't notice? We almost didn't. Seems scammy to me. We adjusted our original tip (which was higher than his auto-gratuity), to bring his auto-gratuity up to what we had intended to tip. But if we hadn't noticed, he would have ended up with an outrageous tip. If it was outstanding service, sure. But not for what we had tonight. Anyway, we'll be back, I'm sure. But I'm going to be pretty vigilant from now on, especially when that guy is running things. read more

I really, really wanted to love this place. Maybe I need to try a few other things, but my experience was disappointing. I got the penne pollo -- it was so rich and sweet that I could hardly eat it. The sauce was almost all goat cheese and thus too sweet (and I love goat cheese). My sister got the all you can eat pasta with sausage and cream sauce -- not too bad, but nothing to write home about. My mom got a pizza and I did think that was pretty tasty, along with the sizable portion of the insalate de mele. read more

I've been eating at various Il Radicchio locations for years though this is the only one left now. It's strange to read of outright rudeness on the part of the staff in other reviews because I've never experienced this myself nor witnessed it. Almost every time I go there I get an initial friendly greeting and then efficient polite service throughout the meal (my husband and I rarely order beer or wine so that's not the reason). Ok, so the waiter never asks how things are going but frankly, I don't want him to. I'm not there to talk, I'm there to eat spaghetti. And lots of it. The bread they serve when you first sit down is ok and tastes fine with the olive oil but it's not anything particularly fancy. The Mista salad has a delicious balsamic vinegar dressing and is very basic consisting of mixed greens, tomatoes, and pine nuts. By the time you're done with those the spaghetti is ready. It comes out steaming in a big white bowl and you can eat as much as you want. The pasta is always cooked a fine al dente and tastes good even if you pluck out a strand and eat it plain. If you want a sauce that's a bit extra but you still get more than your money's worth by the time you are through. By giving everyone their individual sauce in its own little ewer everyone can get adjust their portions to get the right noodle/sauce ratio (very important). And if you need more all you have to do is ask and within minutes a fresh hot bowl is delivered. Yum! This place isn't fancy and the two person tables are small and can be a pain when the main course shows up and you have to do some shifting with the glasses and bread plates. Also, the restaurant is in an old house so it doesn't have super awesome AC in the summer and can get a little chilly on colder days in the winter but when I need a spaghetti fix? I don't care. Solid 4.5 Stars; rounding up in this case. The spaghetti deal is unbeatable in this area. $6.95 for unlimited pasta and $4-6 per sauce. We tried 4 different sauces for 4 people. We left stuffed and very happy. Porri E Salsiccia was by far my favorite, but the pesto sauce was also a top choice. Wine was also good, and our table had a great time. Il Radicchio has been a long-time favorite of my husband and I. It has a quaint, hole-in-the-wall feel that is perfect for an affordable date night. The menu and the chef have changed since we first started going there 2 years ago, but the food--pizza especially-- is still very good. We dined there for the first time in a long time last night, and we were pleased from start to finish. To start, they have *my kind* of bruschetta--not too crunchy, perfect texture. You can choose 2 types of bruschetta, which was a nice touch. My husband ordered their gnocchi dish, which was absolutely fantastic. The portion size was perfect. I, however, accidentally ordered their personal buffalo chicken pizza when I thought it was a BBQ chicken pizza. It was *completely* my fault, but they were happy to make a new pizza for me and didn't charge me, even though I offered to. Great customer service and amazing pizza. When my husband and celebrated our 1-year anniversary there last year, we were more regular customers than we are now. They brought us out a complimentary dessert even after though we told them we decided not to order one. Their wine selection is also very good, from our experience. We've stuck with the reds. I've also seen small families there, which makes sense. It's a nice restaurant but not inappropriate for children. I'm so glad we went back there recently. The food is poor, especially considering the price. The lasagne tasted like it was leftover from Tuesday and reheated in the microwave. The meatballs were dry, bland, and clearly not fresh. If you want to like this place (and you should) keep it simple. Get a bottle of wine, a little house salad, and if you're lucky enough to be in a group of more than 2, have everyone get pasta. Each person gets the sauce they like, and you share several different sauces with the group - they will keep bringing you pasta until you have no more room for it. I love the radicchio with sausage. Its stellar. I've actually never tried anything other than the pasta in my many visits, but its never steered me wrong!!! My only negative is that the place could be sooooo much cuter (term my wife uses) - it's boring on the inside and outside, but they appear to have recently added outdoor seating. read more

Last night my girldfriend and I headed to this local Italian restaurant. Always situated on a Courthouse corner, I have always passed this small place but have never gone. Finally, I have gone to check it out. It's small and cozy, but unfortunately the wait staff did not maintain the comfort. They were very quiet and quite boring. I was hoping these characteristics that described the staff did not describe the food. My hope was answered. The food was awesome! My girlfriend had the spagetti with meat sauce and it was very tasty. It was fresh and simple. I went with a small pizza pie which could have possibly been shared. It was the sausage and peppers pie and it was delicious. The dough was stretchy and fresh while the sauce was fresh and cooked just the right amount. I will most definitely be returning. As for the staff, have something to smile and boast about! You guys make some awesome food! **Also, why was there Spanish music playing in an Italian restaurant? Just sayin'...... Ok bread because that all I have been eating for the past two hours. Long waits, tacky Decor, and over all bad service. Not an ideal restaurant. If you want food go to the 7-11 across the street. The all you can eat pasta is a rip off. They have long waits so by the time you get the pasta you have to inhale It to leave only two hours late. It took us 30 min and asking 3 different waiters to get water. When we got the water it was all ice and almost no water. The food when it came was cold and tasteless the basil on top of the pizza was unwashed and dirty. We had to order twice because by the time they rung in the order they were out of a ingredient. Disappointing meal. Everything was undercooked. I have been here before and it has been inconsistent in the past. Outdoor seating is nice and service was good. I ordered eggplant parmigiana and it was undercooked along with the potatoes and vegetables, which were also cold. The carbonara is just extremely salty alfredo, pretty terrible. The marinara is maybe as good as Classico. The amount of sauce, however, is pretty decent. I was able to eat two full bowls of spaghetti with one little gravy boat of sauce. If I'd wanted to be absolutely stuffed, a second gravy boat would have brought the total to 15 bucks and definitely would have qualified as "all I could eat." However, since the sauces were bad, no way. I could probably be convinced to come back here, eat outside, and try one of the more interesting sauces, but sitting inside and enduring the humidity due to not having A/C again? No way. read more

When all we want is a simple, comfortable bowl of pasta, we come here. Haven't been disappointed in any of the 20 sauces. If we're feeling cheap, sometimes we just order some sauce take-out and cook our own pasta at home. We were visiting from out of town and staying at a local hotel in Rosslyn. We decided Italian sounded good and this place was within walking distance and had fairly good reviews. When we walked up I was a little skeptical as it looks very quaint and unassuming. Let me tell you, the food was amazing! Compliments to the chef! I felt like I was at a 5 star restaurant. We ordered the Prosciutto wrapped scallops and the clams for our appetizers and the Chicken Marsala and the Artichoke Ravioli for our entrées. All of it was delish! On the pricey side if you're on a tight budget and the appetizers we ordered were only enough for one per person. We were there on a Sunday night, wasn't very busy and service was great. read more

I've never really cared for lasagna, but I ordered pizza to-go once and while picking it up I happened to walk by someone else's lasagna going out. So the next time I surprised myself and ordered it and it did not disappoint. It's hands down the best lasagna I've ever had, with a ton of sauce, and I hope it never changes. Lasagna now holds a regular spot in my meal craving rotation on a cold nights, and I will only eat it from here. Do yourself a favor and just get it! Cute little place that you've probably driven by and never noticed. I don't think I've ever tried the pizza; the main draw here is the all-you-can-eat pasta. You order a sauce (they have like 30) and you get all the spaghetti noodles you want to go with it. I usually go with the bolognese, but I've heard other folks rave about the pistachio sauce. It's not a transcendent experience or anything, but it's a nice neighborhood joint to go to when you're feeling carby. I saw a cockroach on the wall. Right next to where I was eating. This place is a joke. I'm surprised anyone would give it five stars, or even four for that matter. Now I love Italian food and am pretty easy to please, but this place was just awful. Boring bread, bad wine, overcooked pasta, over priced food. The decor was also pretty pathetic. This place hasn't had a renovation since the late 70s probably. UGH! Save your money and go else where. What can I say -- the service is usually terrible, the bread is some of the worst I've ever had, and they don't even have a soda fountain (I once tried to add a can of coke to my to-go order and the server told me to walk across the street to the gas station to buy it and save $4). I can't make up my mind whether the interior is "rustic" or shabby. But the never-ending pasta will keep me coming back forever. Stopped in here last night with the boyfriend. We each had side Cesar salads and pasta. For sauces, we ordered carbonarra and bolonese. We also split the tiramisu for dessert. In terms of service, I found the waitstaff to be on top of things. They were friendly and efficient. In terms of the food, I left satisfied, but not impressed. The carbonarra was very thin and the Cesar dressing atop the salad most definitely came out of a bottle likely purchased from a grocery store... they just kind of squirted it on randomly. Service was really slow when we went. They may have been down a server, but it no table had even bread for like 20 mins. We only had the pasta (so maybe I will update this once we have tried the pizza), but expect boxed dried pasta - you can definitely tell it was wasn't made fresh recently. The sauces also didn't seem that fresh. I could barely taste the basil in the pesto alfredo, and our pistachio Gorgonzola sauce was very oily. The red sauce we had was good, but again, I could have gotten it out of a bottle. Later that night both my and the gf's stomach's didn't feel great. The wine was a good deal though. Unfortunately we did not have a great experience at il Radicchio. The table was not cleaned properly, it was oily, I did not have the feeling of being a really clean place.We had to ask 3 times for bread as the waiter always forgot to bring it us. Then, we had to wait for our food more than an hour, everybody else got their food before us and we were there waiting. Honestly all that wait was not even worthy it, the food was extremely salty. I have never had such a bad experience in a restaurant so far. I am sorry, but I will definitely never come back or either recommend this place to anybody. read more

Best brick oven pizza spot I know in Arlington, the atmosphere is very authentic, along with the entrees. No bar, but it makes the dinner feel more enjoyable with no tv distractions and with just wine and beer selection it still is able to quench the thrist. I gather on an almost monthly basis with friends in Northern Virginia at this small, unassuming eatery on Clarendon Boulevard in Arlington. The place is always hopping, so we typically make a reservation for our party of 6-8 people. The service is quick, and we each have our favorites, but we all agree: the house wine is some good stuff. I typically order the Classico pizza with peppadew (italian sausage, grande pepperoni, mozzarella, tomato sauce); my friends typically order the Salmone Grigliato (grilled salmon with tomato, basil, & peppadew salsa, arugula, red onion, asparagus, & yellow tomato salad) and/or the Rosticceria Pollo e Salsiccia Tortelloni (pulled rotisserie chicken over fire roasted kale & Italian sausage tortelloni in a rich chicken & white wine broth). A warning to the wise: the free bread is delicious, so avoid at all costs unless you want to feel bloated afterwards or are open to taking leftovers home. read more

Good food, with a casual & occasionally romantic atmosphere. Since I moved to Arlington I have been looking for a local haunt where I could go for dinner with my girlfriend. Rosslyn has a pretty limited selection of dinner options, and I gravitated toward Il Radicchio almost immediately because of its convenient location and attractive menu (we're both fans of Italian cuisine). The food here is definitely above average, with a good selection of pasta dishes, pizzas, and salads. It isn't going to rock your world, but it's absolutely solid stuff. You could do a lot worse. The prices are typical for the area - certainly not cheap, but again, you could do worse. The service is also above average, with some very attentive servers who will do their best to keep you pleased. But there is one (fairly large) caveat when it comes to the service - Il Radicchio is severely understaffed. Should you happen to pick a 'popular' dinner time (weekends, or fridays 6-8), you will see the restaurant transform into a sluggish and ugly place full of screaming children and inattentive service. I can't really blame the staff, since they really do the best they can, but the overall feeling is that there aren't NEARLY enough servers for the kind of crowds this place gets during peak hours. So, in summary - Il Radicchio is an above average Italian dinner spot, with some nice dishes, and good servers, but make sure you come during off peak hours. read more

My go-to place for pasta. Try as I might to order something different, I always gravitate to the linguini with salsa rosa (with salmon or broccolini). The caprese with prosciutto is also a must-have. Maybe I am a creature of habit so I'm glad that this place consistently has good food, service, and wine. Your classic neighborhood restaurant where the staff knows you by face and name. read more
