Went here recently with the family and had a really nice experience. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and were seated quickly. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and happy to answer the questions we had about the menu. I ordered the Chicken Florentine Pasta, which came with a choice of soup or salad. They didn't have honey mustard dressing , so I decided to try the soup instead--and I'm really glad I did. It was absolutely delicious. It had so much flavor with just the right amount of heat, and honestly, it was one of the best surprises of the meal. And honestly, if it had been, the only thing I had had for my dinner, I would've been completely satisfied. The rest of the table ordered the Pesto Perfecto with Canadian bacon, chicken tenders and fries, and a kids' pepperoni pizza. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The Alfredo sauce on my pasta tasted homemade, and the pasta portion was generous. There wasn't a lot of chicken in the dish, but I've noticed that seems to be pretty common lately when eating out. Even so, the pasta itself was flavorful and very satisfying. The bread that came with my meal wasn't my favorite--it was dense and chewy. But I tried a bite of my son's pepperoni pizza and would absolutely come back just for that. The crust was light and crispy, and it had a generous amount of cheese and pepperoni. Not really a fan of this place. Ordered it for the first time and a lot of it left a lot to be desired. Not trying to be mean or rude, so I'm not going to be extremely negative. I just did t really like the flavors of the marinara sauce, or meat sauce. Or meat balls. But everything was technically cooked correctly. The pasta I had itself. Literally the pasta was cooked quite well. And the ranch dressing I had with the fried mushrooms is obviously not from a jar and flavorful. Side salad (In this case a Caesar) add on for an entree is extremely overpriced however. Very small salad for $3.50 is not a great look. Finally got around to trying Ilario's this weekend after years of passing it over. Boy was I wrong! I ordered it for delivery and the portions are huge!! We got the Chicken Cremora and an extra chicken parm since we were sharing. We wondered if there'd be enough pasta but even splitting it we couldn't finish!! A side salad and roll (we got one extra lol) also came with the order. Their ranch is so so good, very seasoned which I loved. Their pasta was a liiiiitle over but it also could've been because of the delivery. Their Alfredo is creamy and not greasy. The breading on the chicken was packed with seasoning and the marinara was so good. I've got a new favorite in town! read more

I have been around Kyle for almost 20 years when the H-E-B +1st opened up. When Ilarios first opened up, I was excited to find that they had calzones on the menu. That was quite a few years ago and as I ordered the calzone when they first opened up, I was disappointed. The dough was tough. It had no ricotta cheese just mozzarella, and every other item added was extra. today I decided to give them a try after so many years with their calzone. I ordered takeout and was surprised that ricotta cheese was added to the item. Once I got it home and tasted it I have to give them an A+ for improvement. Being from Brooklyn, New York I quickly commented who makes a calzone with no ricotta cheese? This comment was made many years ago when they first opened up. The crust was good and the fillings were amazing and abundant. Thank you, Ilarios for including the ricotta cheese and making that crust buttery and garlicky. You are now on my neighborhood favorites. I did not stay to eat at the restaurant, but it was clean and ambience was nice. Keep up the good work. read more

Ok, Ilario's is not the very best Italian food you will ever have but it is good. I really like getting their pizza's to-go. Just a great crust that is not soggy, has come chew on the crust and a rough bottom. They use a high heat pizza oven with a stone base in it. They have a great Thursday pizza deal and another day with a wine special. If they could line those 2 up on the same day, I would go there a lot more. The pasta's are alright as well. The sauces are not the best I have ever had but way better than anything you will make at home or get from a jar. The menu has dropped a few items I liked to order in the past but what can you do. I also enjoy the side salads that come with a roll. Give the pizza a shot. Their larger pie is MASSIVE. read more

Laurie greeted us at the door with a brilliant smile. We knew good things were to follow. Chicken Florentine pasta and shrimp scampi were absolutely devoured. Our Pinot noir was the perfect accompaniment to our entrees. Zach came out to visit and mentioned his banana pudding gelato. What?? What a fun Texas twist to an Italian staple. Excellent, attentive service from Laurie. We will definitely be back and highly recommend you give them a try. The place is unassuming and easy to miss. I placed an order for a grilled chicken pasta over the phone. When I picked up Order I found out they put parsley on everything, which I wasn't aware. I asked an employee to see if she could please remake it with no parsley by the name of Pamela and said it's not my fault so you can place another order and just pay for it! She was very rude acted like she was the owner/ manager. I asked are you the manager she said no! I'm like really than why would you not transfer me to the manager when I asked for one? Was very upset after going on our date night last night. There was one table of about 8-9 people and me and my boyfriend at another. Not busy at all. The servers were coming by and being very pushy from the time we walked in the door. Not sure if they were trying to close early- we were literally still eating our food and the girl comes over and asks if we are done and if we want boxes. We both were in the middle of taking a bite. They over all were very rude. 2-3 different girls coming by asking the same questions and just making it obvious they wanted us out of there. Random restaurant selection like you've seen us do all over the world. We like to find those hidden gem restaurants. So we found Ilarios off I-35. It is really quite good. Their stuffed mushrooms are loaded with Italian sausage yummy! Their salads are fresh. Their lasagna soup sounded delicious but we elected salads, 'cause we're healthy like that. We both had the "Meator" pasta which features IT sausage, bacon, chicken and jalepenos in a vodka sauce. Very nice. Nice wine selection. Casual easy going cafe-esk feel. And can't go wrong with Dean Martin and others singing softly in the background. Service was very nice with a more casual feel. They are a 4.5 so... round up to a 5. Winner. read more

This was our first time back for awhile since they changed ownership. Right after the change things weren't as good, but we were pleasantly surprised to find out that Ilarios has returned to its previous excellence. The servers were quick and attentive. The food was excellent. They even brought out a bowl of the creamy jalapeño sauce for me to try before deciding on my order! The servings were generous, but not ridiculous. My only complaint would be that it's always cold in this restaurant. I imagine that's because the cooks are trying to stay comfortable because it's a small space with an open kitchen. It's been years since I've eaten here (10 years to be exact) and the food and atmosphere were better than I remembered. This place is great for casual date nights. The food is tasty and affordable, and the service staff is friendly and helpful. My wife and I typically get several things off the menu and share them. The pizza was good! It's not my favorite pizza, but it's solid. The lasagna and fried mozzarella were fantastic. Definitely a must try if you're in the Kyle/Buda/San Marcos area. read more

Maybe tonight was an off night, but the fettuccini Alfredo had so much onion pieces and onion powder it was literally not edible. It is so onion flavored it doesn't have any resemblance of cheesiness. The kids did not like the Alfredo, at all. It was very spicy, with an over powering onion flavor. Service was amazing! Our waiter was fantastic and the employees were very attentive. Our drinks were filled the whole time and we were served promptly. Food was overpriced- appetizer portions are small. Came with 2 sauces, is that what all my money went to? Atleast my dish came with a soup. Pasta was overcooked and sauce was over powered with basil. Chicken was cooked to perfection, though. I was disappointed to say the least. I have been here once before and do recommend the $4 bread basket as it comes with a tasty olive oil mix for dipping and I believe it's bottomless. We visited this place on Saturday mid day in February, the ambience was a little busy. We were greeted and seated quite quickly. Our waiter was great. We ordered all at the same time, however we didn't receive our orders all at the same time. My daughter and husband's dishes were delivered to a different table and had to wait an additional 10 minutes to get their food. My chicken piccata was good. I don't think my husband and daughters enjoyed theirs very much. After we left my daughters had a bad stomach ache and had to rush to a restroom. read more

So this was our first experience trying out this Italian restaurant. I have a student in my classroom who tells me they come and eat here at least once a week, so I wanted to see what the hype was about. We didn't have to wait long and we went to eat at 7pm. Our waiter ELLIS was FANTASTIC! He was able to give us some good recommendations and loved his customer service. The mozzarella sticks were piping hot! They were known to dipping it in ranch. I'm a traditional sauce type of person. I ordered the Manicotti with meat sauce and Jeff had the chicken Parmasean and switched it to the fettuccine noodles and added some spice to his plate. ELLIS recommended both our meals and it did not disappoint! Everything was fresh and flavorful. I loved how cheese my manicotti was there was a lot of sauce! He also gave us a sample of the calamari, and boy we need to get that next time! I also needed to add that the sweet tea was on point! I haven't had tea in awhile, but this one was good! Plus to end the night, we tried the molten cake! It was sooooo good! We had a wonderful experience and Ellis made the experience over and beyond. One of the easiest reviews to write. We had Ilarios cater our wedding. The food was EXCELLENT. My guests have all given me their compliments! We had the chicken Alfredo, pesto perfecto, and beef lasagna, and each dish tasted SO GOOD! I would've included more pictures, but most guests started eating right away, so I just have a picture of the lasagna. & Andrew was so easy to work with - he was able to honor a lot of our requests, easily helped us make adjustments when needed, and overall he is super friendly and polite! read more

On a day when my wife and I were about to finalize purchase of a new Club Car Onward to replace another golf cart, we decided to try Ilario's for a late lunch. We typically prefer Italian Garden in San Marcos if we're hankering for Italian cuisine (good food, great value) but we opted to try something new. When we entered the place (oh yeah, there's a sign on the door instructing diners to yank the door open as it can require some effort to open it), all the booths were already occupied so we chose a table set in an alcove...but just so happens to be next to another table with diners who were talking loudly and unceasingly. Oh well. Our server was pleasant enough. We perused the menu and I didn't find seafood pasta (they had seafood lasagna which doesn't count) which I typically order in an Italian restaurant and use as a yardstick for how well they execute that dish. I opted for chicken parmigiana which came with a bread roll and a salad with a flavorful sweet Italian dressing. My wife ordered the Tuscany pizza. Oh yeah, they didn't serve any bread with an oil dipping sauce like others do. My chicken parm was OK...thought the chicken breast was a bit small and the marinara sauce sweeter than what I'm used to. My wife's pizza was similarly OK...thought some of the artichoke pieces were chewy and shouldn't have been on the pizza. All in all, an OK lunch but doubt we'll return as there are better alternatives out there. Lunch for 2 with tip came out to just over $37. read more

(Note: I write Facebook reviews for residents of Turner's Crossing, a new development in Buda, as we all learn about good places to dine in Austin.) ------------- Last night, some friends introduced us to Ilario's, a place we hadn't yet found, only about 15 minutes from Turner's Crossing. I have been told that several of our neighbors have been ordering takeout from this place in Kyle, across the plaza parking lot from the H-E-B . The food is not only very good, but the dining room is a nice place to enjoy a relaxed meal with good service and very reasonable prices. If you get chilled easily, be sure to bring a sweater, because the big fans overhead don't stop turning. Oh, yes, before I forget, the wine is a bargain on Wednesdays. A glass is two dollars off the regular menu price, while a bottle is a full half off. I wasn't expecting that, but it was a nice surprise. You should also note that the place gets quite crowded on weekends. We were there mid-week at 5:30, and we had our choice of tables. By 6, the place was starting to fill up. Naturally, I had a large bottle of Chardonnay already in place and chilling when our friends arrived. My momna didn't raise any dumb kids who don't know a good deal when they see one. Our quartet of diners started our meal with an appetizer of overstuffed mushrooms, marinated in red wine and filled with fresh ground Italian sausage and herbs. Four large mushrooms were served and quickly given high marks. I went with the chicken marsala ($18), a chicken breast sautéed with marsala wine and mushroom sauce, served with linguini pasta. It came with a choice of soup or house salad or Caesar salad. One of the soup choices was something called lasagna soup, which I had never even heard of before, so I tried it, and it was quite tasty. Could've been a little hotter, however. Karen ordered the fettuccine Alfredo ($12), fettuccine pasta sautéed with a blend of garlic, homemade Alfredo sauce. She enjoyed it and managed to bring some of it home. She did say, however, she preferred that dish at (Gasp! Dare I say it?) Olive Garden. Our friend Rick decided on the pecan tilapia ($18), a fresh filet fried in seasoned pecan breading and served on a bed of linguini pasta, roma tomatoes, and spinach and jalapeño cream sauce. It came with a side Caesar salad. He described his meal choice as delicious. His wife Kim decided on the seafood lasagna ($17), layers of lasagna pasta with fresh shrimp, crabmeat, red onions, and red and green peppers, all smothered in Alfredo sauce. To say she was pleased with her choice would be an understatement. There was no way we were leaving without Karen getting her favorite dessert, a slab of tiramisu ($8). I know it was good because I got a small taste, and she liked it too, but she still prefers the version at Olive Garden. I disagree, but my vote doesn't count when it comes to tiramisu. I enjoy gelato, so when I saw that on the menu, it was an easy decision. I picked the strawberry gelato ($7), an underwhelming portion of three tiny scoops that could only be described as meh. Certainly not the creamy version of gelato that I was expecting. read more
