We have been staying at the Grand Hyatt so dining at the Ilama Terrace for breakfast has been very convenient. Albeit a little pricey, the breakfast buffet has an expansive selection of foods and will accommodate anyone in your party. There is a made-to-order omelette station that is pretty cool. You stand in line and pick the filling (e.g., mushrooms, spinach, green peppers, cheese etc) and the cooks makes the omelette via assembly line similar to Chipotle. There is a hot station with regular items such as scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, rice, and breakfast pudding. There is also a pancake and waffle station, an oatmeal and cereal station, a pastry station, and a bagel/bread station. The staff ensures your coffee is always filled (though the coffee brew is meh). The worst part of he experience is probably the amount of birds that poach abandoned plates like sharks! But the experience is worth a trip if you're hungry and want selection! read more

The only positive I can say about this place is the view. The breakfast buffet that comes with Costco package is 35$ a piece. The food is average and comparable to the free breakfast at an Embassy Suite. The options here are ok but they are the same every day. The servers only task is to bring coffee or water and clear the table. If you have more than the two free meals be prepared to pay $150 for breakfast everyday. My advice- go the cafe next to this place which has a large breakfast menu or leave the resort for a restaurant that appreciates your business and doesn't count you as an overpriced expected tip. read more

Reliving my honeymoon on a business trip I went right for the miso and rice for breakfast- and they had the authentic roasted seaweed- slightly sweet with a slight hint of wasabi. Then a wonderful egg white omelet with Portuguese sausage and the fixins. Ingredients looked and tasted as fresh as the island scent after my 15 hour journey from the east coast of the mainland. Fruit was fresh and the service extraordinarily friendly... Like a long lost aunt who urges you to try everything! Lydia was charming and wonderfully sweet. Again, stark contrast to the airline attendants. Would have given it more stars if they had a slightly broader fruit selection- they had guava, honeydew and pineapple... Just expected more from Kauai. Also would have liked to see some Asian pickles- if you're gonna serve miso for breakfast, there should be a side. And the occasional bird flying through the bread area creeped me out- good thing I am low carb.... But not sure anything can be done about the birds in Hawaii when everything is open air. 2 stars only because of the view. The view is absolutely amazing overlooking the ocean and a beautiful pond with swans and koi fish swimming around. Everything else was poor. I would give a better review if it was a holiday inn or a best western but the Buffett was $31 per person!!! Didn't even include the $8 latte that my wife had. The eggs were soggy, bacon was cold, fruit was okay. Bagels were hard. Potatoes were soggy and there wasn't much else to offer other than oatmeal and cereal. Even the pancakes were mediocre and they didn't have French toast! I honestly asked the staff if there was a section to the Buffett that was missing. Everything else had flies buzzing around it so I ended up just getting a custom omelette at the omelette station which was good. I think everyone else eating there had the same idea because the line was very long. For $31 per person I would expect a better selection (seafood, eggs Benedict, French toast??! Come on man!). Service was good...but everything at the Hyatt is over-priced and mediocre. You will do better at a local breakfast joint or coffee shop. read more

Lunch here today, as with most resort restaurants, be prepared to drop some coin for even standard fare. The good news is that the are was above standard and average. The bride had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich which came with fries, large pieces of fresh avocado and a sweet onion jam while I had the Corn Curry Bisque and the Sliders. The bisque was excellent, corn was grilled and left in large pieces, had enough lemongrass floating in the broth to add flavor, and the broth itself was in the right middle ground for thickness. Well done. The sliders came as a plate of three: Beef with an aioli which was essentially a small hamburger ( but OK), a Barbeque pork offering that was really good and the final one was a crab cake slider with spicy Asian slaw. I don't normally eat seafood, but hey, when in Kauai. At any rate, this one was good as well although I would have liked more zip to the slaw. Came with about a dozen taro chips which are always a nice touch. Bill for two sandwiches and a bowl of soup with no drinks came to $48. Back home this would be highway robbery, but again, it is pretty standard resort pricing. read more

Expensive, as expected as it is in the Hyatt Regency. The $20 Eggs Benedict was very good but I'd rate the one I had at the Naupuka Terrace at the Kauai Beach resort a little better for less cost. (Naupuka calls it their Sunrise breakfast for some reason?) But one is paying for the ambiance of this location which shows with $5 coffee and $16 panini breakfast sandwich. The food and service was good as one would expect for those prices. read more

Food is ok, but the price, even on Kauai is very expensive. A two egg breakfast checks in at $18. A side order of toast is $8. The breakfast buffet is a hefty $31 a head and though pretty large, has nothing on it to justify that kind of coin. Options are limited on the resort to this or the coffee shop and a pastry. This is the easiest option for breakfast dining if you're staying either at the Hyatt or in Poipu. Of corse because it's a hotel and Hawaii it's a little steep for a buffet price of $34/per person. However if you are on vacation and want to either eat a lot or like the luxury of trying a little bit of everything, this buffet does not disappoint. If you don't want to do the buffet there are still menu items to choose from. I personally like the egg white omelette- although I'd suggest going light on the cheese because the first time I ordered it it was quite greasy. Can't go wrong with their juice, fresh fruit, and syrup options for the pancakes. Keep in mind it's a pretty open concept restaurant so there might be some birds that may fly over you or hang at your table wanting a bite of food. read more

This place is beautiful. My boyfriend and I had an amazing breakfast experience here (which was great because it was my birthday). The wait wasn't long which was great since we didn't make reservations. Our table overlooked the ocean and terrace (of course) and the food was great. I had the smoked salmon and my boyfriend had the ahi tuna benedict. We also shared a tropical fruit plate with yogurt. Everything was super delicious and fresh. Just had the best salad I've ever had in my entire life! The waitress highly recommended the island fresh fish salad with prawns and although it didn't sound that tasty to me but with everything so expensive I thought why not give it a try over another fish sandwich or burger? Boy am I ever glad I did. The fresh fish was cooked perfectly with a light pesto sauce on top and the 2 prawns were also warm. They were served on the most delicious field greens with some papaya, red pepper slices and some wonton noodles with a ginger dressing. I never thought a combo like this could taste as good as it did. Even though we were not staying at the hotel we were seated right up front with a beautiful view of the ocean and the swans in the koi pond next to the terrace. Truly a magical experience for lunch. I mean lunch was not cheap but it was well worth it to me for the food, view and service. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt for 5 nights. The waiters/waitresses at the Ilima Terrace were definetly on point. They provided great service everyday, we had Tito twice during our stay and he was phenominal, our favorite waiter. Buffet was pretty good too, Duane did a great job at the omlet station which was our fave part. Our only complaint was the manager Karina. She was extremely rude to us. One morning we had gone to the Anara Spa before breakfast to get our cardio in and swim laps, so we went straight to breakfast. I was wearing a one piece bathing suit with a black skirt over it. Karina ordered one of the waitresses to pull me off the omlet station line and had me go change my outfit. Now, mind you the Grand Hyatt is a HUGE resort and our room was in the honeymoon section which is extremely far from where the Ilima Terrace is. This was completely uncalled for. I paid a lot of money to stay there and shouldn't be embarrassed by the so-called manager. Actually, she is such a miserable women and seeing the ugly puss on her face everyday irritated me, did I ask her to put a bag over her dirty face? No. I won't be returning to the Grand Hyatt, unless of course Ms. Bitch Karina is fired. read more
