Great selection, great service. First off - there's no shortage of eyeglass stores in this part of Chinatown. When you walk down Mott Street, there are plenty of options to consider if you're looking to get new glasses (or flx some old ones). Recently my glasses broke and I was looking for a place to repair the frame. I checked out a few local spots near my hood (in Times Square/HK). Let's just say the folks there were far from helpful and downright snotty about the cost and availability of service. So I said, fuck it, let's find a place in Chinatown. I gave these guys a ring and Calvin picked up the phone. He assessed my issue and said it was an easy fix that didn't require any cost (versus the midtown folks who all wanted to charge me at least $20). So I hopped on a subway, showed up, said hi and Calvin took care of my issue in 10 min. He and the rest of the staff were very friendly and never made you feel any pressure. He was also very helpful with customers who had questions about their frames. While I was waiting, I took a look at some of the stuff they carry. I liked the variety of options and the designs looked cool. I'm definitely coming back here not only for future services but also to shop for new frames after my current ones wear out. I've worn glasses since I was in third grade, so I've had my fair share of eye exams in life... iLook provided by far the best service I've ever had. I recently had to look for a new optometrist since obtaining a new vision insurance provider, and I'm so happy I found iLook. The location is clean and organized, and accepts walk-ins for eye exams. I only had to wait about 20 minutes for the optometrist to finish with her patient. During that time, the super helpful staff walked around trying to help me to find a new set of frames. I'm extremely nitpicky when it comes to frames, but she was SO patient and really listened to what I liked or didn't like. On top of that, she was able to find frames that I never would have picked for myself, but that somehow still looked good on me! I didn't end up walking away with any frames that day, but she never pressured me about it and wrote down my favorites so that I could think about it. The eye exam was quick and painless, taking only about 10 minutes. This is the first optometrist who actually took the time to explain each part of the exam. As part of the exam, there were also some pretty cool photos taken of my eyeballs... the optometrist even explained that she was looking at the nerves and blood vessels to ensure they were healthy. In my past 2 decades of eye exams, I never even knew they did that or what the insides of my eyeballs looked like!! (kinda cool, kinda gross...) She also took the time to explain the changes in my prescription and to address any concerns/questions that I had. I've never been this satisfied walking away from an eye exam. My partner and I have been to iLook for a couple times. This location in Chinatown is the absolutely the best, and so is Ervin! Ervin is super knowledgeable about all things eyewear and delivers best-in-class customer service with excellent communications. He was also able to help me understand my vision insurance coverage, which was really difficult for me to navigate. I ended up getting a pair of glasses with prescription and a pair of sunglasses and I'm very happy with them. This place really exceeded my expectations. I called around 1pm on a Sunday to come in at 2pm to refill my contact prescription for the year. Because I had a contact fitting done within the year, I was told I wouldn't even need an exam since that prescription would still be valid until the end of 2017. I'm not sure if that's standard everywhere, because I've been to some really sketchy eye places that usually tell me anything so long as they can take more money from me. Anyway, came in around 2pm with my old prescription and the guy at the counter was super helpful and friendly. He explained all my options to me given my insurance. I still ended up ordering a year's supply of contacts, and since they had a large supply in the back, I was able to get them all at once. What!!!! When does that ever happen!!!! I usually have to wait 1-2 weeks for my contacts to come in. I will definitely come back here, and I recommend anyone to stop by if they're looking for great customer service, value, and products. Since I've moved from LA to NYC a couple months ago, I needed to make use of my insurance and get my eyes checked. I wanted to get a pair of contacts and the doctor told me that it wouldn't make a difference to get contacts and waste money on something that was not going to fix my vision comfortably since I would need to get multi-focal progressive lenses. I appreciated her honesty and opted out for glasses instead. The selection is great! I am asian so I dont have much of a bridge and glasses tend to slide down my face. Well you're in luck, this location specializes on Asian faces. The staff was great and really patient. I settled for some really cute Chole glasses. They will have your insurance info ready so they will calculate the costs per the frame for you. Today, I walked into iLook to check on my Davis Vision insurance for contact lenses. Calvin and Cecilia did a great job assisting me. Calvin did an excellent job recommending the Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear Plus contact lenses. The Optometrist was very through and quickly checked my vision. She also checked my eyes again after putting on the contact lenses for fit and vision. Cecilia was very patient and informative in teaching me how to put on contact lenses for the very first time. Overall, I felt taken care of. They have knowledgeable and friendly staff. They definitely place customer service as their #1 priority. I didn't feel being pushed into buying something. I've been with ILOOK since 2016 from both their Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan location. Yesterday, my glasses of 2.5 years got torn off between my frames and the lenses from poor treatment on my side; it was a sign to get new pairs of glasses. I was greeted by Ervin, he helped me pick out frames according to what I want by style and by pricing. He was super patient and friendly as I tried multiple of different frames and he is knowledgeable in his expertise. I felt comfortable walking around the store and picking out different frames to put on the tray to try on at the counter. Ervin assisted me throughout the entire process from scheduling eye appointment, choosing frames, prescription, and transaction. I felt comfortable to speak to Ervin, great sales associate to go to for assistance. I have not yet received my frames but the typical wait time is about a week. Ervin helped me scheduled an eye appointment to update my prescription. The Optometrist (OD), Ed. Chan is knowledgeable in his area of expertise. He greeted me with a smile and listened to my concerns about vision related issues. He provided various of different solutions. He was very detailed when he explained the results of the eye exam. He took his time and I felt that he is passionate in what he does. He is a great optometrist to visit if you are looking to get an eye exam. I am not sure about his hours at ILook, but you can call the office. ILook also offer snacks and beverages which is wonderful because ILook can get pretty crowded inside, I was free to sit and wait or walk around the store until Ervin or other sales associate(s) were available. I think overall ILook is a great place, you would not feel guilty because there's no judgement and everyone explained everything clearly and descriptively; they make you feel comfortable. ILook also helps adjust your glasses at anytime. So if you're looking for a new glasses store with great service and various frames from different price range ILook is a great option! read more

At a glance, iLook looks no different, although it is sleek, modern, and as white in decor as the device its name references. What sets this business apart is service. Every employee is upbeat, warm, and helpful. Generally fluent in the common languages of their neighborhood, they converse as comfortably in English as in Mandarin and Cantonese. They are knowledgeable discussing their offerings, efficient in handling orders, and competent with the frame fittings. There's never a feeling of being rushed or pressured; their friendliness makes the entire shopping experience pleasant. And shop, you will, if their trendy, playful frames suit your style. The selection is contemporary, constantly changing. I consider my tastes conservative, at best, and struggle to see myself in the styles offered here. Fortunately, I bring a friend more open-minded about what I may look good in, and between her and iLook's staff, I always end up finding something fun and unexpectedly stylish that I have to agree was a great choice after all. No surprise that I've been back every couple years for a new frame. Last year, they started offering a payment installment program that makes even their more expensive styles easier to afford, with some extra bonuses. At the same cost as the full payment, most of the cost is split into monthly installments for a year, with the option to fully purchase or turn in at the end, like a car lease, and it includes insurance against loss or damage. Not really familiar with glasses so the staff was great explaining all the perks of each brand, what was suitable for what needs, etc. which is what I really like. I wasn't too happy with my first pair (heavy and big) so I came back and was able to fully refund and pick out a new pair that suited me better :) they're very flexible and knowledgeable! Super disappointed that I couldn't give this place a 5 star review but it was clear that my experience was not unique. I was greeted very warmly by Steve and two other employees and loved how cheery they seemed to be. I asked how much an eye exam was and they said $30 which is not bad considering I don't have insurance. They told me to go into the eye exam room and I was introduced to Dr. Mizrahi. Upon entering, she was looking at her computer screens so I didn't mind that she didn't say hi or anything to me. But during my entire exam, she was rude and unamused by her job. I tried to lighten up the energy in the room by explaining why I had a hard time seeing through my old glasses, but still- no reaction. I asked her questions about the photos they take of your pupil and she answered as if it was pulling her teeth out. As we were going through the exam, she would ask which one I could see better from, 1 or 2, 3 or 4, etc. but with my astigmatism, my eyes needed time to adjust and she would suck her teeth and breathe deeply because I wasn't answering fast enough. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I was appalled by her professionalism. I posted on social media that I was at iLook in Chinatown and everyone responded to watch out for "the white lady" and they have all had an unpleasant experience with her as well. I really recommend this spot to get your glasses/contacts but not if you need an eye exam done by her. *they also have snacks! read more

My last eye exam had been two years ago. It was time for a new prescription for my glasses. My old pair was also getting pretty bent up with cracks. A friend referred iLook and raved about their services. I stopped by on a rainy Sunday back in April. They take Davis Vision in addition to other insurance. My daughter had trouble seeing far away. We did a walk-in and got taken care of by Crystal. She helped with the registration, forms, and setting up us both up with Dr. Sarah Gleason. There was a waiting area with snacks and a nespresso machine. The wait was short. It got busier when we left. She was friendly and gave us a through exam. Dr. Gleason also answered all of my concerns and questions, particularly with my daughter's exam. Fortunately, my daughter didn't need glasses at this time. She had 20/20 vision. Dr. Gleason gave a recommendation to come back for a 6-month check-up. She explained that kids are still developing in terms of eye growth, height, etc. As for my exam, it increased a bit. However, Dr. Gleason reassured that I wouldn't notice much of a difference since it's almost about the same. Ervin assisted with the frame selection and recommendation on the lenses. He brought over a case and explained which frames were covered by DV. I could also opt for out of pocket but only at 10% discount since most insurance doesn't cover designer wear. Only the lenses could be upgraded. My main concern was the cut of the lenses. Insurance coverage of thinner lenses are much thicker and weighs more compared to the industry's standard version. After going through the insurance-covered selection, I settled on a light brownish pair. Ervin never rushed me. He gave me plenty of time to go over decisions over the frame and lenses. He never tried to push any sales either. I really loved that about iLook compared to other optical stores in the area. He finalized my frame in addition to opting to pay out of pocket to do an upgrade for thinner lenses. I also lucked out since it was originally quoted more before he confirmed it over the phone due to some confusion over the insurance coverage. Overall, I had a great experience with their optometrist and phenomenal staff. I will be sticking with iLook for both glasses and contacts needs. read more

iLook is a really trendy, modern sunglasses and optical shop smack in the middle of Chinatown. When I walked past, I was surprised by how such a new and chic shop ended up nestled on this older part of Mott St. As soon as I walked in, the workers--all very young and stylish--greeted me and offered help if I need any. The inside is very, very clean and minimalist, with the sunglasses and glasses perched on two walls and organized by brand. What an impressive selection. Only the most popular brands and latest styles. I was there to buy nice sunglasses for my mom as a random gift (because moms deserve the best!!!) so I asked them what they would recommend for a middle-aged, Asian woman. They showed me a bunch of sunglasses that are popular with that crowd. They listened carefully to my requests without being pushy about buying anything, and altered their recs based on my price range and description of my mom. I finally saw a Burberry pair that was simple but elegant--perfect! Before buying it though, I wanted to scope out the other Chinatown optical shops to see if they carried the same style at a lower price. I hit up the many scattered along Mott St...some of them carried the style, but none were as cheap. Plus, the other shops seemed to generally carry less brands and older styles, AND lack the enthusiasm of the iLook staff. As one last check, I searched up the style online. The cheapest I could find it was about the same price as iLook was charging BUT iLook won't charge me tax!!! Yup, I automatically save a ton of $$. I highly recommend this shop for sunglasses and glasses! Definitely the best in Chinatown, on both the style and price front. You don't have to worry about fakes either. Don't know how they do it, but hope they stick around for a long time! (When I gave my mom her present that weekend, her face lit up when she peeked the classy Burberry case and was so happy when she tried on the glasses. Yay!) read more

Calvin explained some of the risks with drilling into my frames, but we proceeded with it anyway. Took about an hour, maybe even less. It was $30 and I paid via credit card. Very pleasant visit. I was looking for a place to get new glasses. Staff here are super friendly. The staff was very attentive and fast. They were even able to squeeze me in for an eye exam as I had just walked in. The exam took about 10 mins at most. It was not as elaborate as my previous exam. They did the regular eye exam with the machine and a few line reading. They have many brands and selection of frames. I wish I took more time looking at the frames before I decided. I came in not knowing what to get and the staff recommended a few different types of frames. I end up choosing one of the recommend frames. This place offers 1 year financing plan for the glasses which include 1 year break and fix warranty with the store. It turned out that the best look was a pair of Pradas, but as good as they looked on me, I wanted to look around the neighborhoods in the area that afternoon. What is great about this place is the iLease program, though you cannot do this program with vision insurance. They do accept VSP. If I didn't stumble upon Anne et Valentin later that day, I may have returned to iLook. Still, if you want to steer away from mass production eyewear, look elsewhere. read more

Been going to Eye Solution my whole life, first time to iLook and I wasn't disappointed. Store was very clean, everybody wearing their mask, hand sanitizer available, temperature checks was mandatory to keep everybody in the store safe. I am not a picky person when it comes to glasses but I would like to keep up with the trend. Sales associate Gordon picked out a pair of DITA glasses and I tried it on and it fit my head perfectly and it looks nice. The glasses were not too tight nor too loose and its very light. He gave me a small description of the brand as well as explaining how sturdy the material even though its very thin. After picking out my glasses and finishing up I wanted to adjust the temple tips a bit to curve a bit more. I believe Ervin? helped me adjust it and I asked if I would have to come back here to adjust it. Since I was going to ask my father to pick it up since he works close by to save me a trip. He told me no problem he will adjust it now and write it has been pre-adjusted. Overall a very good experience to me. Idk about all you other Asians out there but I have the most difficult finding glasses that fit my low nose bridge. I went here because of all the great Yelp reviews and I'm so glad I did. I found an amazing pair of Korean made Bliss glasses that fit my face (and nose) perfectly. The employees were so helpful and recommended brands I had never even heard of. Today I purchased my first pair of glasses. Ever. I made it well into life (notice no number used?) without having to use them but...here I am. Progressives even. Anyway, because I have (had) no experience at this I used Yelp to help me. Some of the best reviews were about for iLook. My goodness were they right. This place is lovely. As soon as I opened the door Nicole met me with a smile. I told her I was there with a Rx for glasses. I told her they were for Progressives and she explained to me how we needed to pick larger glasses because of the lens space needed for progressives. I appreciated her doing that. She showed patience and professionalism with each product. She showed me a lot of product. We started in the front of the store and ended at the back. The only glasses she didn't show me were men's and kids. Oddly I chose one of the fist pair I picked from the front of the store. She helped me understand my own insurance. (I know, I should be ashamed I didn't know ) she explained the extras and told me a good price to pay for designer glasses. The other employees are lovely too. They measured me and made me feel welcomed. Not to mention they did not make fun of my graduation o age and glasses. I would give them all 5 stars but i don't actually have my glasses yet. read more
