Used to love this place but in the last couple years it's like a gamble each time. Yellowtail sushi, the reason for it being 2 stars instead of 3/4, was overly fishy mushy and inedible in my opinion. Worst I've seen in 20+ occasions of having it from here.. It was actually great one time and I've been ordering it since only to be disappointed. Pork fried rice is filled with an excessive amount of edamame and carrots and barely any pieces of pork. But it is very greasy. The menu may look like a bit of a snooze, but the news is that every dish is total A game. So why four stars? Smallness. The menu lacks a few customaries of a good American sushi place. The variety of the menu is pretty lightweight. Smaller places, on this A-list scale, like Ginko, in the Tremont, in Cleveland, Ohio, wipe the floor with this tawny Palm Beach susheria for variety and sheer awesome, unique dishes with more than three or four fish selections, as we have at Ginko. That being said, Ginko gets a lot of mileage out of the fish that it does present. Their eel roll is house smoked, big flavor. Their spicy tuna roll isn't a red mushy mess of sriracha and tuna and mayo. It's an elegant presentation with a lot of pop. The bar is intimate. Perhaps a bit tight on chairs. Two less cost money, but I feel less sardine-like. Their selection of Japanese whiskies is good. Their other inventory is a bit more pedestrian. Exceptional bartender. T rocks! Great Japanese old fashioned. Parking is half a star. They're owned by Buccan, the restaurant next door, but the valet sign for Buccan doesn't mention them. We parked reeealy far away as a result. A mention there would be good for first timers. Prices? For a restaurant of this caliber? About right. Figure about $55 pp., all in, is probably a good meal for two. DO MAKE RESERVATIONS. The first thing worthy of a comment is that the hostess was super friendly and helped me get a seat at the bar. The second point of note was that when I sat at the bar the bartender, Ashley, introduced herself with a handshake and a smile which was a simple but effective gesture. The quality of the sushi was undeniably delicious. The atmosphere was quaint but definitely West Palm Beach. The prices were reasonable for the quality of food and level of service. I LOVED this restaurant. I was dining alone and the waitress was kind enough to curate what she would consider the "perfect meal." It included the Peking duck tacos, lobster potsticker, tuna tartare, tuna foie slider, and a few pieces of nigiri. Everything was absolutely delicious, without exception. The bluefin toro nigiri and the tuna foie sliders were particular standouts. I also had the spicy little sister cocktail and it was the perfect cocktail if you like a spicy, savory drink. Imoto is conveniently located in Palm Beach on County Rd next to its sister restaurant Buccan. SW Florida lacks an authentic sushi restaurant and unfortunately Imoto doesn't change this. Food is decent and the ambiance is ok. I would give this place a 4 out of 5 still for a decent Japanese restaurant with decent vibe. Sushi was fresh but not spectacular. Service was adequate. The bar area was busy at peak hour but manageable. There were unfortunately few patrons who appear to have stopped by after a golf outing who should have taken a shower first. One of the best meals I had in my life. Not only was the food, presentation, service excellent... Imoto made sure I had a great time with my family on my birthday. My husband and my two close friends surprised me here for a great dinner the day before my birthday. My friends do not eat sushi or seafood so ofcourse I was conscious about ordering sushi in front of them. However they both wanted to make sure I enjoyed my birthday that's why they picked this place due to my love for sushi. Sam M and their choice did not disappoint. We tried the rainbow roll, spicy tuna, and veggie roll. All the ingredients were extremely fresh. By the end of the meal my friends mastered eating the veggie roll with chopsticks which was a fun teaching experience as well. In small plates we ordered kimachi fried rice and vegetable medley of mushrooms, hon shimeji, asparagus etc. The fried rice were so flavorful that we ordered a second helping of it. In desserts we picked the chocolate soufflé/cake which was decadent and nice. Also ordered the passionfruit/mango cake which was prefect for the season. I would dine at Imoto again since it's a hidden gem in Palm Beach. Seating is modern and cozy with hints of elegance. End result, if your in the area go here. Wow wow wow! This place is GREAT! It is a nice environment with dark lighting and good energy. The service is great and the food is even better. We got a load of things. To start, we tried to pork belly fried rice, Japanese snapper, and the Galbi marinated wagyu beef. I recommend all of these, they were spectacular. My parents got the bok Choy, which ended up being too spicy for my dad so make sure you don't get it if you aren't a fan of spice! We then got the super salmon roll and the spicy yellowtail roll. They both were great also! To end off the fish, we got some nigiri and sashimi (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, snapper, bluefin toro). These were all amazing, but the bluefin toro was the show stopper!!! I definitely recommend going here if you love sushi, or just appreciate amazing food! We got the cookies for dessert, and all agreed they were the best cookies we had ever had. The is the epitome of a hole in the wall that you can easily walk right be even when your looking for it. But you don't want to miss this gem. I've enjoyed the freshest sushi all over the world and this is up there with the absolute best! Fish is impeccably fresh and flavors are paired to perfection. Ingredients are all top notch which adds to the incredible quality of each preparation. Be sure to order the homemade chocolate chip cookies to go, you'll have to order them before dessert because they cook them to order...the perfect late nite snack. I heard about Imoto from some friendly locals during my visit to Palm Beach. Being a big fan of sushi, I didn't waste any time to go visit. This small and quaint restaurant serves delicious Japanese and Asian small plates, including fresh sushi in a zen-like atmosphere. Imoto means "little sister," and this restaurant is exactly that, a small place adjacent to its big sister restaurant named Buccan. Needless to say, reservations are highly recommended. During my visit (which was a few months ago at this point), I was lucky enough to get a spot by the bar during happy hour, which runs from 5pm to 6pm. Yes, it is exactly for an hour.  They offer a variety of sushi rolls for $6 and cocktails for half off. Some of my favorites were the spicy tuna roll and eel avocado roll paired with a cold glass of a delicious Albariño. Sushi rolls were simple but fresh and delicious. From the regular menu, I enjoyed some sashimi and the Peking duck tacos ($17). Tacos were small but tasty. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Good quality of food and great service. The menu is short and a bit pricey for small plates, but big on flavors. The beautiful and friendly bartender, Ashley, was also a joy. It was fun to stay by the bar. Another big plus was to be permitted to order from the Buccan menu, so I was very excited to order one of my favorite small plates, sweet corn agnolotti ($15). Mouthwatering! If you like corn, you must try this dish.  It was a great night with delicious food, great ambiance, and fun company. I just wish the happy hour was longer. Chef Clay Conley has something really good going on here with these two wonderful restaurants. I will definitely visit again whenever I go back to PB. read more

My daughter is going to Japan in a few months and I wanted to treat her to sushi that was up to Japanese standards. We arrived at 5:00 PM. No one was there. Despite this, as customers came in they seated them right next to us. The seating is CLOSE. We ordered sushi. The RICE was so bad that we ate the fish off the rice. The fish was excellent. The rice was an abomination. When the manager came, he clearly didn't care. Part of the problem is was that we were sandwiched between two parties. You could not whisper without them hearing. He did not want to hear ANY problems. I explained that you could literally ricochet the rice off the walls. He got out of there as fast as possible. I paid the bill and tipped the waitress more than 20%, as it wasn't her fault. If you love sushi, you know that the rice is a BIG part of it. Lastly, I ordered a Gibson from bar. It was good and cold. The next drink I asked for gin and less vermouth. I got the exact same drink. read more

Tonight was great as we went with friends who have swing and our table for 4 was actually waiting for us. We've been going since it opened and that's never happened before. I particularly like the rock shrimp and the tuna slider so that's what I had. Our server was really a nice young woman. The evening would have been perfect but for the fact that they play loud music and the guests have to raise their voices to be heard. That makes for too much noise and that's always disturbing for us......then again, we're 80 years of age and our friends are 10 years older. read more

My husband and I went to Imoto for our anniversary last weekend. Per usual we waited till the Thursday before to call for a reservation. At the time we wanted, there was only space at the sushi bar. However, the hostess graciously offered to reserve a table if one became available. Lucky for us, one did. Thank you!!! It's a small restaurant, dim romantic lighting, sushi bar, and full bar with seating. Service was 100%-never an empty glass (wine or water), our waiter had great recommendations and food was quickly delivered. We ordered the duck tacos (spice warning ) and pork belly buns. DO NOT leave without ordering the duck tacos! They were our favorite part of the meal. I will pass on the pork belly buns the next time around. Our neighboring table ordered the dumplings and they looked delicious. We also ordered 2 pieces of the spicy blue fin tuna nigiri out of curiosity (my husband watches Wicked Tuna)...my taste buds would've preferred sashimi and it wasn't worth the $24. Finally, we ended with the rainbow roll and spicy tuna roll. It was fresh. It was sushi. Maaaan I really wanted to like this place. The environment was cool an bougie and the fish was really delicious but the rice was so undercooked it felt like I had gone to Publix for sushi. I've dined here twice. Food is pretty good, the first time the food was better than the 2nd. Our issue is the service is EXTREMELY SLOW to the point where it really takes away from the whole dining experience. Its small plates and they bring them out as they are ready but the only bring 1-2 at a time and you will be waiting 25-40 min in between each plate. If you're actually hungry this is like torture. We had this same experience both times, there really should be a disclosure bc its ridiculous. The kitchen is very tiny so thats why this happens but for my husband and I it killed the whole dining experience bc we were waiting SO long for each thing we ordered. My date and I came here by accident. We were actually trying to go to Buccan, which is right next door. They're actually owned by the same owner, Clay Conley. I have no idea how we did it, but we managed to order cocktails and an appetizer before we realized we were at the wrong restaurant! The setting here is very intimate. The lighting is dim. You will be sitting at close tables. It's cozy. It was a packed house that night. A few groups sharing the small plates. I only was able to try the Peking Duck Tacos with plum sauce since we did end up going to Buccan. They were phenomenal! It was just the right amount of fatty duck balanced with sweet plum sauce. It came with four tacos that were served skewered on a plate. This is what I expect when I think "Asian fusion." Staff was very friendly and attentive. When we explained that we had thought we were at Buccan, they were very understanding. Our server even asked us if we wanted him to check at Buccan about our reservation. read more

We eat sushi all over the world and Imoto hits it on all fronts! Fish was fresh and light (an absolute must for any sushi restaurant) - the creative balance of the spices and sauces the Master accentuated the freshness of the fish without masking the fresh fish taste (something other sushi places do to hide the mediocre quality of the fish). The service simply was stupendous - something rare these days! Imoto gladly welcomed our off menu ordering (a major must of any sushi aficionado and a huge peeve when not accomodated). Our server Patricia was as friendly and attentive as one could be without hovering over us (which can be annoying) - and she was delightfully supported by the support staff of bussers and cocktail servers. Although a small venue, the atmosphere was trendy and hip - including the upbeat music (without being too loud and obnoxious). Plus, its a place you have to know as there is no sign on the front - word of mouth is their advertising - the best advertising there is. This was my first time to this lovely establishment and I can say I will absolutely be back. The atmosphere upon entering was relaxing and welcoming. I sat down at the bar and was immediately greeted by the friendly faces of Carly and Ashley. Being that it was my first time in the establishment I decided to venture off my usual beer drinking path and try something new, but I was a little lost so Carly helped navigate me to a very delicious white wine, of which I indulged in the 50% off for the bottle during happy hour. She then helped me choose the shrimp appetizer, rainbow roll, and dancing eel roll, all of which were absolutely delicious. Imoto is such a gem for Palm Beach. I love Buccan, but the menu and ambiance couldn't be much further from sleek Japanese, so I was reluctant to try Imoto. I'm never making that mistake again. First the Ambiance - CHECK. 9/10 Imoto is small, which is good. It creates a more intimate and simultaneously, more energetic environment. It feels less Palm Beachy and more big city. Drinks - check-ish. 6/10 The bar upfront is nice, and has a nice Wine and Saki selection, but I wasn't really impressed with any of the cocktails. The bar and bar staff all look amazing, but could expand on their ability and execution. I'm only being critical on this because of the image and standard that everything else is held to at Imoto. Food - CHECK. 9.5/10 Some really really good offerings, and I am excited to return to try more. -The Duck Tacos that everyone raves about are certainly fantastic and worth trying. -The Edamame is a great twist on the standard Japanese classic, seared in a sweet soy reduction. -The Rock Shrimp, deep fried yet very simple and light, but with no new flavors to experience. The shrimp itself is quite light and lobster like, However. -The Pork Belly Buns are very tasty and stand up to any others you may have had, but the bun's themselves did not seem to be as fluffy as I've had in other places. -The Galbi Wagyu Beef, is a superb dish. Tender, juicy, and flavorful slices of Wagyu pair perfectly with the light shredded cucumber salad. -The Foie Tuna Slider is fan-freakin-tastic! So rich and so flavorful, this little slider packs a wallop of complexity and taste. The size is actually perfect, as any bigger, and it would be too much. It's just too rich to have more than the portion *Don't over do it on this, you'll ruin it. -The Tuna Tataki took the cake for me. The tang, and earthiness, and freshness. It was a spectacular combination that forced me to close my eyes and savor each bite. Service - CHECK. 10/10 The hostess could not have been more pleasant. The Bartender was cheerful, and our server was happy, friendly, attentive, and personable. Everyone we encountered was sweet, model-level attractive, and super attentive; perfect all around. Price - CHECK. 8/10 For being an in-demand Palm Beach restaurant, the price is actually really really reasonable. No reason you can't go here a couple times a week. Imoto really blew me away. Everything was great and priced so reasonably. They mentioned they are offering a strong happy hour during the off season, and I can't think of any reason not take advantage of the offer. The sushi was good, I honestly wasn't blown away but it was definitely a great standard. The lobster potstickers were incredible. Now their Buccan menu...wow! So unique and appealing. The Thai coconut chicken was so flavorful and tender. And the Imoto stores tart was the best dessert we've ever had hands down. No exaggeration. Came in with a party of 4 on Wednesday night and what can I say, the food was spectacular, service was spot on, and atmosphere was lovely. Our family came to Palm Beach to visit for a week and were left with a great impression after our experience here. We ordered the fried kimchee rice which was amazing and perfectly prepared. The duck tacos were amazing, just wish there were a few more. The rolls are exactly what you'd expect after the amazing starters. Fish that melts in your mouth, the rice was soft and fresh. Avocado was very smooth. Prices are very decent for what you get and the quality. I wish I had taken more pictures and the one I did take does it no justice, but if I'm ever in Palm Beach this will be the first place I ever come back to.
