When I first submitted the quote, Dennis got back to me very quickly and we soon had a date and time confirmed. On the day of the move, I received a text with an ETA & Dennis and his team arrived right on time. Update! I used Impel Moving again to move out of my storage unit and into my new house. They sent three guys this time and were able to finish in around 3 hours. They did a great job fitting everything in the truck, even though it was raining pretty hard. Everything got moved over safely, and they even gave me a reimbursement for the cost of the blankets and boxes that they had to use while my items were in storage. Sergei and his partner arrived on time and got right to work loading up our many boxes and large furniture. It was a bit of a game of Tetris fitting all of our stuff into their box, but they were very careful and deliberate on loading up to make sure all of our belongings were secure and protected. We just moved a few blocks away but into a significantly smaller place, which meant a lot of squeezing furniture and boxes into spaces and our garage. They took special care wrapping my furniture (including a large antique sideboard), and delivered everything in pristine condition. Dennis is quick with communications over email and the initial quote, and he came by our apartment to confirm what size truck he would need. He and his team member helped us move during the pandemic and both wore masks the whole time, which I appreciated even though I know they were breathing hard with all that heavy lifting and I'm sure it would have been more comfortable without a mask. Every single positive review about this team is true. From initial quote through to payment, they were professional, honest, upfront about costs, and did their best to be within their estimate. If we could rate them more than a 5/5 we would. Yes, they do what they say and wear masks, etc.. all the COVID precautions. But what you're really here for is the moving experience. tldr: it's the best. Everyone is trying to gtfo of the Bay Area b/c COVID and rent. the rent is too damn high. (true story) So book them now before they run out of spots. I was quoted $125/hr for 2 ppl during the week (read: really great deal!). Double for drive time (standard). $1/box if they need to pack for us. They even offered to drop by to give us a cost estimate! We were given 9:00am-9:15am arrival time. By 9:16 first boxes were already in the truck. The move: Expertly wrapped the furniture and other things we didn't have the materials to do. I got a little worried b/c when I asked if I could help they said "if you stay out of the way, that's how we're fastest." What can I say? It's my house, I worried. I called a friend that's moved like 15 gazillion times and he said "no no, it's totally true". It was true, I am starting to think I should've left more things for them to pack b/c they are so much faster! Then I started sweating, I mean it's been hot, plus the smoke, plus the masks - but I also was sweating the area of our destination. They got a little worried too, the truck was pretty packed. But no sweat, they Tetris'ed everything neatly and I even had extra space to maneuver. They earned every cent of their reasonably priced services. Granted, I haven't unboxed everything, but nothing I saw was scratched, crushed, or dented. But I don't think I had anything super heavy. In the end, it took a little bit longer than the original estimate, but it had nothing to do with the movers being slow or anything like that - they were so fast and careful. And my friend said to always budget a couple of extra hours just in case. 1st Pro tip: they take credit cards, but charge 2.7% fee for using card. If you can pay cash, save yourself a little dough and spend it on the tip. Also, tip your movers ffs. They're essential!! Now, I'm not an expert, but when I talked to my friend he said 20% for a great job is a good tip so that's what I did. 100/10 would move with them again. Next time I think I'll let them do the packing (when I have a bigger budget). Compared to other folks in the area with higher prices, pushier desk folk, more impersonal customer service, and questionable 'fixing' of bad reviews, they are by far and above the best. 2nd Pro Tip: I can tell you that Yelp has changed how it displays negative reviews, so some people can have years of bad reviews and one year of moderate to great reviews and it'll show up as 4.5 - 5 stars!!! Yelpers beware!! Impel movers are *the only movers* I researched that have a solid 5/5 THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE TIME THEY HAVE BEEN ON YELP. That's impossible, I mean have you ever had to push a couch through a Bay Area sized door??? It's impossible that they're this good. And they defy all odds at actually being that good. Our Impel team today was absolutely phenomenal- I've moved 10 times in San Francisco over the past 15 years and this move team was by far the most expedient, good natured, and smooth of any I've worked with. Not to mention they moved our 3-bedroom apartment up SO MANY flights of stairs (seriously...our tri-level apartment *starts* about 4 flights of stairs up and there is no elevator in the building. I was sweating bullets just thinking about how they were going to do it but they managed to move some huge furniture up there and nothing seems to be damaged. And they hustled the whole damn time. These guys really know how to hustle -- non-stop hauling heavy and unwieldy furniture and boxed goods down two flights of narrow stairs and securing it in a truck without a single breakage or even a scratch.
