I was staying on the same street and decided to try this quaint place as they offer a 15 percent discount to guests of Villas Sacbe. We went for breakfast and you can choose from a prix fix menu. They have a continental and a full-fledged breakfast. Where else do they offer cappucino or latte without charging you more for your continental breakfast. My continental breakfast was $140 pesos, about $8USD. Not cheap but well worth it. The basket of pastries was abundant and so was the plate of tropical fruit. You get to choose a fresh orange or green juice. Not only was the dining experience pleasant but Chalida, the Thai waitress whose English is better than Spanish, and Pedro were very customer service oriented and genuinely nice. My friend had the Nutella pancakes. She had had pancakes there a few days ago and raved about them. read more

This is a lovely little secret spot in Playa Del Carmen. Intimate with an Upscale feel to it. It's not very "Mexican themed" if you are looking to wear a Sombrero and have a mariachi band - it's not the place, but if you are looking for a nice romantic find with a great menu and good wine selection - this is a great spot. There is no shortage of your traditional Mexican fare in PDC, so this is nice when you have been to your share of them and want a little break from margaritas and chips. (not that there is anything wrong with that - we all love it) We were here for a late dinner and really enjoyed it. "Nice Experience" We tried to get into their sister restaurant, Plank but it was booked until 9 PM. Imprevist is a charming small Asian fusion restaurant on a side street. We were served an Amuse Bouche, a fried ravioli, very good. Started with steamed dumplings and tuna tartare, both very good. For entrees, I had the fish special, a Mexican type of swordfish in a flavorful Asian both with mussels, very nice. My wife opted for the chicken lettuce wrap, a nice little meal. For dessert, we tried the crème Brule, not as custardy as I like but good and their version of a Profiterole, different. Definitely will go back. read more

This place is known for offering a great breakfast as well it should be. A couple of nearby hotel/condos offer a comp breakfast here. It's one of the best offers in PDC. Read other reviews which tell you how great breakfast is. They are all true!! I know that as I have had occasion to eat breakfast there every morning for the last week. What most people don't know is how good this place is for dinner. My spouse and I have eaten here the last two nights and will come back here for our last dinner in PDC. The atmosphere is beautiful. Piped in music, subtle lighting, sit alfresco and your view is a romantic looking candle shop across the quiet street. Service is so good. Whatever you want they will try to make happen. The chef has created an incredible menu of interesting entrees. Apps and salads are great. Both nights the kitchen offered a complimentary sampling from the chef. We enjoyed the salads each night. Feel free to ask for salt and fresh ground pepper to dial in your personal flavor preference. No one takes offense. The entrees were incredible: tandoori shrimp on rice noodles, green curry fish on jasmine rice and seafood risotto with squid ink. They were incredibly delicious!! To give you an idea of the service level, both nights we were there, we asked for port wine for dessert which isn't on their menu. The first night, Andres and the second night, Julie, ran down the block and around the corner to the bar of their sister restaurant, Plank, to get the Port we asked for. Now that is service above and beyond!! By the way, Plank is good, but Imprevist is the better of the two restaurants. It simply has more character and soul as well as a menu more developed. Try them both if you like but if you can only chose one, Imprevist would be my choice, no hesitation. read more

I was not at all impressed with this place for breakfast and my husband hated it. There are many other breakfast places like bio-organic or bio-natural that I would pick any day over this place. I also do not find there to be value for your money as it is $10 per person and you are forced to order in a certain way they specify, not based on what you want. In Playa we did not spend more than $10 on breakfast for both of us at other places with much better quality and larger portions. For $10 you pick coffee or tea or juice (no water included). My green juice had a hair in it which I sucked through straw without realizing it was there and it ended up in my mouth. Disgusting! Next you get a pastry basket (empty carbs) with hard/ cold pastries and dry brownies. We ate 2 tiny pastries and skipped the rest. They bring a fruit plate next which is just a few slivers of melon and I ordered waffles and got one tiny room temperature waffle. It comes with nothing on the side so I had to pay extra for eggs. So basically I paid $12 for a waffle and scrambled eggs. Where is the value in that?! Nothing special about this place and I do not like being forced to order certain items for a set price. Our worst breakfast in Playa was here so I would skip this place. read more

Wow, what a wonderful evening at Imprevist! It was our first night ever in Playa. After careful TripAdvisor research, we landed on Imprevist and happy we did. We wanted something in a more secluded part of town, outdoor seating and a small plates friendly menu. Imprevist was perfect. It's a small restaurant with a half dozen outdoor tables and only a few more inside. Service was impeccable - quick and frequent, yet not overly demanding. Food selection, quality and value outstanding. We love making a small plates evening between the two of us. We went with the Vietnamese rolls, pork belly and salad with honey dressing. We then split a filet. The house threw in a cold tomato soup course and capped our evening with a home made creamy limoncello. Total bill was just over US$100 - a price that could not be matched back home. Of all the dishes, the pork belly with scallops took the win. Just a few notes, though, on food quality. For a foodie experience, scallops were a bit tough. And while my wife raved about the filet, it was not as tasty as I would have liked and a bit past (just a touch) medium rare. But these overly critical points pale in comparison to the overall experience. Overall value, high end for Playa but still below a USA standard for comparable experience. This is not a touristic restaurant - this is the real deal. Reservations through Open Table and they pay particular attention to the special requests. If you've done the Fifth Avenue experience and put up with the street salespersons coming to your table, get off the beaten path by a block or two and try Imprevist. Enjoy. read more

Attempted to make reservation twice, using their website. No one ever replied back to me. The next day I called to confirm and yes they had sitting for us. Went to restaurant at 7 PM, no one else there, we were told to find to seat and were asked if we want to purchase water. Two other tables with and field by diners, and they were served. We sat for 15 minutes and never saw a waiter or hostess again! We left what once was our favorite hideaway romantic restaurant never to return again. This place is a little hidden gem. We happened upon this place walking to the beach. We've only eaten breakfast here but the breakfast is fantastic. The menu is a flat rate "tasting" like menu which includes select pastries, fruit, juices, and your choice of main entree. The Chef is outstanding and also seems to be the chef at the nearby Plank restaurant. Great atmosphere and ambiance which is modern and relaxed. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

Ambiance is nice, but two issues: First, service is quite slow. We sat down at 9:15, and didn't receive our appetizers until after 10 pm. They apologized several times, but that doesn't fill your stomach! Second, they seem to be trying too hard - putting weird and not at all tasty twists on good dishes. the "velvety Thai lemongrass soup" literally tasted like hot chocolate. I could not eat it. Likewise the pad thai, which was basically a sweet soup. If you go there, stick to the grilled lobster. Above was from my wife. Mine are: I had two cocktails while waiting: gin and tonic and dirty vodka martini. One would think that it would be simple. Let's just say that none of them had any resembles to what a cocktail should be. Again too much experimentation: weak and strange taste. Amazing place, Must try !!!! Located close to 5th avenue, Imprevist is an amazing place to get breakfast or brunch. Food is amazing and service is great. All of staff speaks English as well as Spanish. It is located on a quite street with not much traffic. You can sit outside on the patio and it's nice even when it's scorching hot because the trees cover the patio with shade. They offer breakfast combos which includes fresh fruits, unlimited coffee, fresh juice, a bucket of fresh baked pastries, granola with yogurt and honey and a main course of your liking, and all of that for $190 pesos or $10 USD. Brunch menu is even a better deal and is available from 11 am till 1 pm. I came here only on my last day but would have came here everyday had I discovered the place sooner. I would highly recommend checking this out when you are in Playa Del Carmen !!! read more

I spend a couple of months in Playa every year- or at least I try to, and I always make sure to get breakfast at Imprevist at least 5 times a week :) The amount of food you get for the price is insane! Your choice of juice and coffee, fruit plate and sweet bread basket to start, and then your choice of entree from a good size menu. And I've tried several of the entrees and they are all delicious. Most importantly- the staff and service is incredible! They are all so friendly and accommodating. Angel is the best! Can't say enough good things about this place! I visited 3x during my recent visit to Playa. All of the staff is wonderful! They are all so welcoming and accommodating and made both our breakfast and dinner visits so very enjoyable. Breakfast is a prefix menu with a large variety of selections including a main dish, fresh fruit, yogurt, fresh juice, coffee and a pastry basket - all for about $12 USD. We tried the enchiladas verdes and mole and both were delicious. It gets quite full in the morning, so there may be a slight wait, but they try to get everyone seated quickly. We also visited for dinner and were blown away.....the mushroom crema (cream soup) is an absolute must try!! Every single thing we tried was excellent and complete with beautiful presentation. Tuna tartare, seafood risotto.....all out of this world! Would recommend dinner reservations, esp if you'd like to sit outside on the patio. I look forward to my next visit to go back! This romantic little restaurant has a large wine menu that rivals some of the larger restaurants on 5th ave. It is on a quiet street and good if you want to get away from all the vendors and large crowds. The prices are slightly higher than most nearby restaurants. I would recommend getting drinks here and then getting food at Plank, which is right up the block. read more

Again, see my review of Como Como: The food is as good as anything you'll get in PdC, but it might not completely rank rave reviews in a city like Dallas, with an embarrassment of riches in the culinary department. Still, atmosphere inside is very romantic/cozy. Having a coffee and dessert on the patio afterwards was awesome: there are not (yet) any throbbing nightclubs on that part of Avenida 1, so it's one of the most chill parts of PdC. The service is very solicitous: I had the impression we were being waited on by the owner. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of food, by the ambiance and the service level! Everything was just superb! Maybe it was just a bad night, but I wasn't impressed. We went with a group of ten and I know that can be hard to accommodate in such a tiny space, but Imprevist did well on this front. The food just wasn't what I thought it would be. I guess if I went in with no expectations, I would have enjoyed it more. It was sold to me as one of the best places in Playa, and I have to disagree. The space is really cute and intimate and our server was great. There are just so many better food options around here. The pork belly app was meh. The steamed dumplings were meh. The tuna tartare and the sea bass were meh. Not BAD, just nothing special. Everything tasted like nothing. Someone at our table ordered the risotto and said it was the beset they've ever had in their life. So maybe our dishes were just misses.
