We LOVE improv city. We used to go to their shows in Irvine back in the day. Unfortunately, they just aren't getting the needed traction at their Tustin location. We went by on a Saturday night... and there were no people in the audience. We knew it wouldn't be fun with just two of us there so we passed. Super disappointed. A comedy show at a bowling alley? It has to be bad right? Well, don't judge a comedy show by the venue. And, would all of my Yelpers lead me and my gf astray? Not at all. The ImprovCity team nailed it. Now you should know if you like improv because it's not everyone's cup of tea. But for me, I'm in awe of how quickly these performers are able to think of funny things to do and or say off the cuff. It's like watching a combination of actors do ad lib and rappers free styling. The ImprovCity team works well together and they vibe off of each other. It's beautiful to see when the skits come together and when it doesn't it's funny too. The group is split into teams and the competition brings a fun element of rivalry. Don't worry the comedy show isn't performed next to the bowling lanes. The show is upstairs where there's a few rooms with a stage and maybe 100 seats for guests to watch. Buy your tickets online for upcoming shows. The tickets are very affordable and if you go to the 7:30 showing you can bring older children. The 9pm show is for mature audiences due to the language and adult topics. A perfect juxtaposition, drinks and food. Buy your alcoholic drinks downstairs at the bar and food at the food stand and bring it upstairs to enjoy during the show. There's also an intermission so you can go pee and grab more food and cocktails. If you're looking for a fun night out that won't hurt your wallet, this is a great choice. Very chill, entertaining, and even though this show has five stars on Yelp people are still sleeping on ImprovCity. Don't make the same mistake. read more

This show and its performers deserve nothing less than 5 stars! I went to the 7:30 show this past Friday and I was in stitches the whole time. The price for what I got was worth every penny--just $12. My favorite game was Round of 5, where the actors had to guess who they were using only gibberish and gestures, and they freakin' guessed like 90% on the first try; my wife and I were like no way! :-) If you're in Irvine, come see this show. We live in Corona, and we came to see it. I also take the drop-in classes here on Mondays, which are led by the show performers, too. These guys are AMAAAZING! The host is energetic and gets the audience to interact and the actors do a great job incorporating the ideas of the audience. They literally sang to a trance song. I came in here to try out their Monday drop-in improv classes and from there I started watching their shows and eventually signing up for their Improv 8-week classes! I definitely recommend ImprovCity for anyone who wants to either a) learn the basics of improv and advance up, b) wants to see some hilarious comedy from the pros, and c) just curious about finding out what improv is. Honestly, just come to one show and see what you think. The performers are a good balance because each bring in their own unique style to their comedy. I'm wowed every time from the funny scenarios and games they come up with. If you just want to try and see what this improv thing really is, just come Monday night and do their drop-in class. Surprised my husband with a 9:30 uncensored show here for his birthday and loved it! Him and all of our friends were cracking up the entire time. I love that the cast is all different ages and personalities, but that they come together to put on amazing show! We didn't know what to expect coming in - the venue is on the second floor of a bowling alley, in a pretty cozy space and not the most modern venue...but as soon as the show started I knew it was going to be hilarious. It's a great place for date night or a night out with friends (and extremely affordable too!). I love the amount of audience participation and creativity the cast puts on. We arrived just before 7:30, and had our pick of seats- front row of course! By 8pm, the place was packed- a full house. The show began as a high energy host charged in and got the crowd pumped! Then the crew came in- all bringing talent and skill to the show. The games and skits and scenes were very fun and funny! I've been to improv nights in college and enjoyed seeing some of my friends making a fool of themselves. I see the need to add more of that humor in my life and can add more improvisation in daily activities and talks. I went to a 9:30PM show not expecting to laugh my ass off and ended up doing just that. Location: Irvine Bowling Lanes? Why yes, it's on the second floor and in a small conference room. I had no idea, there was a second floor. More surprisingly, I didn't know that Irvine Lanes used to be a hotel! You could tell be the long hallway layout on the second floor. If you bored or showed up 2 hours ahead like I did, you'll have some cool options: Play bowling or grab drinks in the bar. My friends and I ended up hitting up TRADE and grabbing food/drinks there. We also went back to Irvine lanes and getting drinks here as well. The drinks are reasonably priced. $5.50 to $6 for solo size cups of beer and $7 well drinks I believed. Upon heading upstairs, you'll find somebody with a cashier box waiting by the stairs. Pay them in cash or card. It's low key so they didn't have receipts and so they claimed that they'll remember you and let you pass if you leave. Entertainment. There's a cast of about 12 members that add unique twists of humor. It's similar to Who's Line Is It Anyways, but not as talented. They'll have audience members participate and give out suggestions. You'll be able to vote and perhaps participate in one of their skits. I wish that audience members could be on stage and learn a few tricks. That would be amazing! read more

Made an impromptu decision to check ImprovCity last night. We went for the 9:30 pm uncensored show on a Saturday night. We took advantage of the yelp offer of 50% off the second ticket so it only came to $15 for 2 people for 90 minuets which is a steal! This is a small comedy circuit. Everyone is friendly and the host was great! The comedians were good. I understand it is Improv so totally get why it wasn't roll-off-the-floor funny. Still a great time and I will definitely go back because this was only my first time! They also have improv classes in the week which I would love to check out. PS - I won a free ticket because I volunteered and gave them my phone to read my text messages for one of the games lol read more

Improvcity is a great activity for a Thursday Friday or Saturday night. They have a great rotating cast and each evening is a different style and group than the last. The first shows are 100% clean and family friendly so kids are allowed. Be warned though that the second show is "uncensored" so leave those little ones at home. This is true improv comedy where everything is made up on the spot, THIS IS NOT STAND UP! So don't mix them up because while they both take skill, this seems to be more "intense" because they have no other prepared jokes to fall back on. Also, be willing to participate!! They larger the crowds and more suggestions offered the better for everyone! read more

Attended the 9.30PM Friday night show and had a great time. The entertainers were confident in their delivery and put on a great show. They had a "super challenge" which involved charades and it was hilarious. I'm not someone who enjoys the usual comedy, but I had a good laugh at the show. I really like how each cast member has their own style, it creates a nice diversity! The 9.30PM shows are more "uncensored", but nothing overly sexual, offensive, political nor racist. 6.30PM shows are more PG13, but we did have a young audience member in our group! At only $10 per ticket (second ticket half off on Yelp, yay!), it's definitely something you can consider attending regularly. They welcome outside food and drinks so you can grab something from Irvine Lanes before heading upstairs to where ImprovCity is. They have 6.30PM and 9.30PM shows on Friday and Saturdays, and 6.30PM shows on Thursdays. read more

I was lucky enough to get the chance to see ImprovCity when I was attending a school event. I was initially not too excited since I did not know what to expect from this Improv, as I have never seen it before. But soon enough, my attitude changed as the show started. After the cast finished the first game, they managed to get me laughing so hard to the point that I was almost crying. And the laughter didn't stop there. I laughed so much that by the end of the show I came out of the room with a semi-sore throat; the whole performance was too funny! The "players" were really great and naturally funny. I also loved how each of them committed to playing every ridiculous character (especially the guy who spoke in a bunch of accents) that was thrown out from the crowd, as they did ask for a lot of input from the audience, and completed all the bizarre actions with the utmost enthusiasm. Watching them running through the games and skits was the highlight of my week as I haven't laughed as much as I did in a long while. Because of their amazing performance, I now have more interest in watching Improv and Comedy Shows in the future. So thank you to ImprovCity and I hope you all keep doing what you do best! read more

Funny, clean, inspired cast. It was really refreshing to be able to take the whole family to ImprovCity performances. We've seen these guys three other times, all very original and fresh routines. What an awesome hilarious show!! I've been lucky enough to see ImprovCity twice now and both performances were nonstop laughs throughout. Seriously, once the show starts you are laughing straight there until the end. My first visit was part of a date night and we had such a blast the second time we brought eight of your friends with us. It is a great, fun, interactive out of the box experience for a date and it makes a fantastic outing with friends. That's assuming your friends enjoy laughing, that is. But who doesn't like laughing? ImprovCity is a far superior option that the run of the mill stand up that costs over 40 bucks plus two drink minimum because best case is the each stand up is actually funny and stand ups are always hit or miss. Each comedien at Improv City is extremely talented and with at least two on the stage at a time, the laughs come at you a mile a minute. Thank you for another great night ImprovCity! $10 for an entire evening of entertainment in Orange County???? Must be a joke! (no pun in intended) no drink minimum like all other comedy shows so you're really just paying for entertainment. My BF's co worker invited us to join them on a saturday night to this comedy event, and although I had never heard of it before, I wanted to try something different in orange county. i was a little skeptical at first, i mean a family friendly "clean" comedy? how fun can THAT be? well, it was actually a whole lot of fun, i mean, it's not like no alcohol allowed! ;) for an easy and quick process, buy your tickets online so when you arrive, they just check you off the list, stamp your hand and walk in. shows are at 8PM and 10PM, arrive early, hit up the bowling alley bar downstairs for pre drinks. there is a 5-7 minute intermission (which isn't very long), so get your drink on before the show. you can buy the drinks and bring them up to the show too. some reviews say there is waitress to take drink/food orders....but that definitely didn't happen the night we were here. we had to grab our own drinks. cocktails and beer run about $5-7 each. there are about 4 rows of 10 seats on each side of the room, so not a very big place so every seat is a good seat. i was really impressed by the talent of the comedians, i mean, to come up with things off the top of your head is not easy to do. some were funnier than others but overall a really good group of entertainers! they really get the audience participation which is really fun. if you're shy and worry about getting picked on, not to worry, they don't do that here. remember, this is a family friendly show. we were fortunate to have seen both shows on this night because they are running a june special, 2 shows for the price of 1. what a great deal and perfect for an awesome saturday night with friends! afterwards, go downstairs to the bowling alley and have more drinks or even do some cosmic bowling if you want the fun night to continue. read more
