I have been to dozens of In-N-Out locations, and I have found all of them to be either very good or excellent, deserving of 4 or 5 stars. To date, I have never experienced an In-N-Out location deserving of less than 4 stars. This particular In-N-Out location, in the Midway District of San Diego, was excellent. I recently visited this location twice while I was on a week-long business trip in the area. The first time I visited, it was in the evening, and I decided to walk inside to place my order for dinner. I ordered a double-double with onions, French fries, and a 7-up. The line inside this In-N-Out was long (as they always are), but the employees here were incredibly efficient at processing the orders. I was also impressed with how clean the place was, especially with how busy it was. My meal was excellent and satisfying. One thing that always makes me chuckle is how the employees working inside seem like honeybees: there are a lot of them, and they are all working really well together for one goal. And for In-N-Out, that goal is to quickly create fast-food meals with "quality you can taste." Well, I can certainly taste the difference in quality. The second time I visited, I came here for lunch using their drive thru. Again, the drive-thru line at every In-N-Out location is always long around lunchtime or dinner time, but the employees here really kept the line moving quickly. The young man taking my order was friendly and professional. I ordered a cheeseburger without onions, French fries, and a Dr. Pepper. Once again, my meal was excellent. So, both times I came here, the employees here were fast, friendly, and they delivered an excellent meal, whether I came inside or I used their drive thru. This In-N-Out was also extremely clean during both my visits. In my opinion, there is something good to be said about the consistency at In-N-Out, always providing an excellent fast food meal at a reasonable cost, with a focus on cleanliness of their business. This place has a well-earned 5 stars from me. I'll be back the next time I return to the area. read more

I mean it's in-n-out, great burgers, this location is always PACKED though so be warned about that, I'm talking usually 15-20 minute lines on the drive thru, and inside there's usually no seating during lunch hours due to how many people go here, good customer service though, especially considering how hectic the conditions they have to work under always are here. Overall the food always comes out good and I haven't had any problems with the orders, though as far as the outside goes it's usually pretty dirty looking and there can be shady characters, but that would be my only gripes with this location. read more

I finally had my first visit to an In-N-Out Burger. This was my first stop in San Diego. I was anxious to see if the place lived up to the hype. There was a long line of cars that moved slowly. Burgers and fries are prepared fresh per order, which is why they are slow. We waited about 30 minutes in line. A clerk took our orders carside, then we waited. Checkout was quick. Burgers came out in a pastry type box - each wrapped like a gift. Fries came out in a bag. Clerks were friendly and asked if we needed anything else before we drove off. The restaurant seating was full inside and out, so we ate in the car. The burgers are undeniably good and juicy with fresh tomato and lettuce. The generous portion of fries is delicious. The meal came out to $8, which was a bargain compared to other fast food places. I guess when you've been serving burgers once 1948, you know what you're doing. In-N-Out they could never make me hate you. I am always going to find an In-N-Out when I am in California and San Diego was no exception. We landed late around 9PM so we were starving and this was so close. Don't waste time with the Drive Thru line. We went inside, ordered food after waiting maybe 5 minutes and had food after 10 minutes. We were also lucky to to snag a table so it was perfect. The food was delicious of course. Whether you're honoring burger day or not, it's always an excuse to get your fix for an In n Out double double lol This is the second In n Out I've been to in San Diego and as usual the Drive Thru was serpentine long, but move rather quickly, as the order taker and staffers are always very efficient and nice. My pup is allowed to eat their unseasoned beef patty, which she devours in seconds. My usual is the lettuce wrapped double double with grilled onions, extra pickles and slice chili peppers. So, I'm thankful for In N Out for staying open until 1:30 am. Our flight was late coming in and for some reason it took a long time getting out of the airport with our car rental. There was a long line for no reason. The location we went to was extremely busy. They said there was a concert so there were all of these teens and tweens there. A decent In-N-Out location I've been visiting since high school (due to the proximity of music venue SOMA and the Sports Arena). It's typically pretty clean, orderly, and easy to get in and out of (no pun intended). I came in with two friends recently, ordered a cheeseburger meal with a fry lite well. I also got a lite pink lemonade. Everything was cooked pretty well! It wasn't greasy, they did the fry cook properly, and the lemonade wasn't off-kilter in any way. I'm only leaving 4 stars because it's fast food. I get that In-N-Out is good, and I have rated a location 5 stars before, but that's because it was an exceptional experience. In-N-Out is good, but it's not *that* good. It's just the most consistent burger at its price point--which is a serious accomplishment, especially at the level of expansion the brand has gone through over the past decade. The hamburger was fine but nothing special, I couldnt tell if it was a smash burger or just a regular classic cooked style ham, their signature sauce doesnt stands out with any particular flavor, it just taste like a mild cipotle aioli mayo without the spice, and mix with onions. And the fries, I could even certify that they seemed supermarket frozen fries, boiled in a chunk of oil. Bland, regular cut and nothing special about it. There way better hamburger spots in the West Coast to fall in this cali fast foodie trap. I can't visit California without visiting an In-N-Out at least once. I was doing touristy things in San Diego before heading north of it and opted to get in and out in mid afternoon. As expected, there is always a line although it does move fairly quickly. The service to take my order and to take my money was great however the employee delivering food was not quite so pleasant. They weren't rude. They just seemed like they were done with their job for the day and wanted anything else rather than continuing to work the drive-through window. The food was as expected with everything made fresh and the french fries animal style had the perfect amount of topping to fry ratio. Overall, this location was comparable to many other In-N-Out that I've been to. As a California native who is also vegetarian, I grew up eating In n Out during my school years, even after a night of clubbing we'd come to In n out to satisfy our cravings. I always loved their animal style fries, their milkshakes, and grilled cheese - animal style ofcouse minus the tomatoes. Since I'm no longer based in California, my husband and I really craved it on our recent trip to San Diego. As soon as we got off from San Diego airport, we went to this location straight away. It's in a sketch area, so many strip clubs/adult entertainment stores on the way to this location. However, once we arrived we noticed a security guard near the drive through line and there was a huge line on a Monday afternoon. We ordered a couple of items and it all came to $25 which is a bargain. Service was friendly and fast. We got our orders fast as well. Seeing the animal style fries which I craved so bad and after almost 6 years, I almost got tears in my eyes. Taking a bite out of it was heavenly and ofcouse nostalgic. I'm afraid this will give the Sports Arena neighborhood a first bad impression from visitors to San Diego. And there were numerous obvious tourists that were visiting this location. There was an individual yelling profanities and walking and harassing other people in the parking lot. My daughter did not feel safe at this location. Stopped by before heading to the Sports Arena. The line was long at the drive thru but it moved quickly. Service was quick and the food was fresh! The inside looked clean and I had regretted not dining in lol. This location and area is a hot mess though... People make their own lanes and rules so be super careful when visiting. But the food was a little disappointing. The fries were terrible- they were so dry and stale. The cheese on it was not fully melted, and there was not enough sauce and onions on top. The burger was pretty good. The patty was kinda dry but still tasted good, and the tomato and lettuce were fresh. I got the vanilla milkshake as well, and it tasted like melted ice cream, which was off-putting. My California peeps and people that have had In-N-Out (INO) know how good the burgers and fries are. They probably also know how busy INO can get as well. This location like all the locations (at least every one that I've visited) has the great burgers and fries you come to expect from INO, but also the busyness. I typically go with a cheeseburger "animal style" (which used to be on their "secret menu," but it seems like everyone orders their burger that way now. Animal Style is when the beef patty is grilled with mustard then served with pickles, lettuce, grilled onions, and extra spread on a toasted bun. If you like your burger animal style, try animal style fries! If you are in the mood for milkshakes, INO has great tasting shakes as well. Most of the time we will get a Neapolitan shake (chocolate, strawberry and vanilla mixed together). It doesn't have a weird (unpleasant) after taste (like Shake Shack). Service is generally good and tables are usually clean. Once in a while, you might have to clean the table yourself because it is so busy. This location has indoor and outdoor seating. I have not had a problem finding parking at this location. Most people I know are fans of INO. And although inflation has affected pretty much everything, I still think INO is a good value for the price (unlike McDonald's).
