On a Mission extended Summer but still Autumn stroll on 16th street I stepped inside Nieves Cinco de Mayo and was overwhelmed with so many different choices of ice cream. The ice treats come in all flavors but I wanted to try something I haven't tried before. I first got the rose pedal ice cream and it was creamy and tasty. It was more savory than sweet and it was just the way I like an ice treat. I then got the cheese ice cream and I thought it would be cheesy but it was savory and the cheese was not as creamy. You can taste the cheese bits in each bite. These ice cream are soft but the taste is solid and the ice cream doesn't get soupy even after a half hour of still enjoying it. The owners were super friendly and offered up so many substitutions to create a vegan-friendly smoothie. Honestly, I would have been happy omitting ingredients to save on the trouble but they had vegan subs so they swapped out the whey protein for plant-based, omitted the collagen and swapped the pb for almond butter. Those were way too many accommodations for my comfort... I really don't like being "that" customer but they were so ready to make me the perfect smoothie. They were so kind and helpful!! The pastry case was nearly empty when we arrived around 1pm. If you want to try anything, get there early! There were frozen items for purchase such as ready to bake dough as well as frozen meats. As we were leaving, another co-owner was coming in. She was holding buckets of roses! They wanted to have these ready to give away for Mother's Day weekend! So sweet! If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd definitely be a regular. This place is such a gem!

I ordered a little bit of everything - chocolate, vanilla, blue corn, churro, and strawberry hibiscus. It was a bit of a bummer that my strawberry conchas didn't make it into the box. Not sure what happened - I was chatting with the cashier/concha server so maybe they were distracted. I also should have checked my order. The conchas were SOOOOO good. Very soft and fresh - not too sweet. The chocolate-y flavor wasn't really coming through to me. And the vanilla and churro flavors were very similar. The most prominent was the blue corn - and I think this was my fave. Comparatively speaking to other conchas at a panderia, $5 a concha is a bit steep. They are really tasty tho and definitely worth it. Think of it as a top shelf concha. Oh and the good news is, they're vegetarian friendly - they only use butter. I'll be back next time I'm in the San Fran area.

Food: The churro concha tasted like a roll with cinnamon sugar on top. The bread was light and soft though it did taste a little dry. The price is slightly high at $5 per concha which are slightly cheaper when buying in a bundle. Overall, I'd have to check out a few of their other flavors and I'd be interested in trying their Pan De Muerto when it comes back again.
