One of the only places open early at Valencia and 16th. Most shops open 8 or 9. Whats with that? The breakfast burrito is decent, chorizo and potato. Not usually a fan but i added cheese and it was pretty good. They said they don't have bacon, idk. Came with chips and salsa. Warning: the green salsa is spicy especially if you lack melanin. This is my go to place for caffeine in the morning. They are open early and it's nice to be able to get something so early when most places are still closed. I mostly only get their caffeinated drinks but they do have pastries and other foods if your are looking for something sweeter. I had the torta tamal (a tamale sandwich!) and it was quite good and quite filling since it's very much a carb sandwich. But I want to note that whether you get your food quickly or not is totally luck of the draw because they're pretty severely understaffed. I managed to be second in line and one of the two people working there was able to make the sandwich and a juice bar item. While she was working, the line ballooned to like 7 people who probably all ended up waiting a pretty long time. So this place might not work if you're in a rush. read more

When you climb out of the 16th Street BART station and walk toward Valencia Street, you probably notice all the bustling businesses to your left as you attempt to maneuver around hipsters singularly focused on their texting, places like Pancho Villa, Alhamra, and Panchita's. However, there is one that's always relatively empty, which you would think would be reason enough to avoid. However, they have a little sandwich board on the sidewalk that says the magic words: "We have every day Menudo con Pata". Menudo not on a weekend? How is this possible? Most all of my favorite Mission spots give me a solemn shake of the head if I ask them if they serve menudo on, say, a Wednesday evening. The reaction here is different as the woman repeats back to me in disbelief, "Menudo?", probably because this Asian face is not a common match with the dish she serves. But for $9.50, I needed to try it. What's odd about this place is that they serve no other Mexican food except caldo de res (beef soup), champurrado (hot chocolate), and a variety of pre-made tamales in a warmer on the counter. It's a one-woman operation, and I admire her for dealing with the variety of life that require her attention from club-hopping bathroom seekers to vagrants with superhero capes looking for an excuse to provide endless chatter. My order arrived, a large tray with the bowl of menudo, chopped cilantro and red onion on the side, and a stack of hot tortillas in foil (photo: http://bit.ly/2e2KZxJ). I had no idea what the "con Pata" meant until I saw a large pig's foot, skin intact, in the middle of the broth. Fresh and refreshing juice/smoothies!!!!! It's more of a fruit smoothie vs an ice cream/yogurt smoothie, so if you're in the mood for something heavier, head to your ice cream place, but if you want a thick but yet fruity and healthy tasting (i have no idea if it's healthy or not, since it's so tasty, I'm afraid of the sugar content...sigh). I love the TANGY TART smoothie (big size!!!) and the HAPPY HAWAIIAN smoothies. Super super super fresh and tasty. I don't feel full afterwards, I just feel happy and satisfied. Oh, and their FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE. That is what you call fresh, sweet, and so refreshing. This place was my stomping grounds for a good 2 years, it just has that very familial mission morning feel to it that is fleeting over time. They are very prompt and attentive here, I've had times where I get generous avocado in my bagel portions, very fresh smoothies & juices (huge fan) and beautifully buttery coffee that will power you through grueling schedules like I had at a time. I stopped by el Cafetazo since it was close to the 16th street Mission bart station and I was thirsty. I ordered the ginger lemonade. Personally, I'm not a fan of ginger foods or drinks but I ate some oily foods for lunch and felt like a refreshing, cleansing drink would make my body feel a little better. The ginger lemonade was okay, and an interesting salmon color. If anyone knows why ginger lemonade is this vibrant color or what ingredient or chemical reaction this is from, please message me as I'm genuinely interested. The employees here are just plain unfriendly and disrespectful. I come in to buy a drink, and I asked if he would give me some ice on the side for the drink. He told me "No" and I asked why, stating he has an ice machine behind the counter. He couldn't give me a clear answer on why he couldn't just give me some ice, for my drink. Do you deny people water as well if they are thirsty? And to add it all up, the older woman behind the counter called me a "cabron" as I walked out lol. P.S. I every time I buy a latte from this establishment, it is extremely hot and the milk is burnt. Takes about 5 minutes with the lid off to cool down to a drinkable temperature. So much yes for their juices! Fresh apples, carrots, beets, celery, cucumber, ginger - made as you order it, served in a biodegradable cup, with a full 20 ounces for $6.95. Better than the sit-on-a-shelf-in-a-plastic-bottle-for-days $10-plus juice places that are replacing all the great OG juice spots. The staff are friendly and quick. The space is very "old Mission" - not quite an accolade coming from 16th and Misson vibes, but as long as the right people are around it can have it's charm. I stopped at El Cafetazo early in the morning post workout, before the usual juice shops are open, to order one of their fresh juices. It's a very casual, unassuming, and friendly neighborhood spot! I ordered the apple, beet, celery, cucumber juice and loved it! It was incredibly refreshing and fresh! I'd definitely recommend this place for fresh juices. 5 stars for the tamales and cashier service, but otherwise a 2 star visit. The pork tamale was phenomenal, and I will definitely come back to pick these up to go. The cashier guy was very friendly (without being overbearing) and efficient. The place has free wifi with no password and also offers menudo, cakes, ice cream, and bagel sandwiches. The rest though: disgusting restrooms, dingy dining area, noisy TV, and the regular coffee, although hot, tasted pretty bad. read more

As my friends and I were driving through the Mission District looking for a parking space on a really cold, rainy day... we decided that getting amazing coffee was less important than not being cold and wet anymore, so we drove until we found a good spot and then we just went to the closest coffee shop, which happened to be El Cafetazo. Nothing really shined about this place... but the coffee was hot and cheap, it wasn't busy, the homeless looking guy in the back corner didn't bother with us, and we stayed a while and the barista didn't look bothered. This place is so unprofessional. I had received a coupon sent to my email from them offering a 50% Any Smoothie. I work nearby and frequent the place once in awhile to grab some iced tea. The day I went to redeem my coupon was a terrible experience. I noticed the woman working behind the counter was a different woman then I usually see. Fine, no problem. I ordered a smoothie and showed my coupon from my phone. The woman automatically said "Nope we have no coupons here". I explained that they do and obviously the email address came from them. She argued again and completely ignored me when I tried to at least explain it to her more. There was a man behind me in line who decided to bully me and harass me by calling me a "b***h" just for trying to get a coupon redeemed. I had said I had no problem trying to pay for a smoothie but that was not the point. The woman behind the counter TOLERATED this man harassing me and hurried to make his coffee while ignoring me completely. I was in tears and in shock that NOBODY stepped in. I left the store. I would never ever come back here. I told my whole office and they to are boycotting their business. And to the people on the way out who mentioned to me it may be a language barrier, please save me that excuse. They have Wifi and an ipad at the counter to sign up for apps and deals. I really want to like this place. The coffee is good, the setting is nice, they have free wifi. What's not to like? The vagrants that run through the place...that's what. They NEED to fix this. Two days ago I left because the homeless guy standing in the middle of the room smelled so incredibly bad, and the staff took no action at all. I love this place! This is one of my most loved places in the Mission. I stop in for their beverages at least 5 times a week. Sometimes twice a day. Their coffee is good, strong, and inexpensive. This place has a larger variety of freshly blended juices made with both fruits and veggies, and fruit smoothies too. They also sell everything from pastries to tamales at the front counter. I had a small juice made from fresh apples, carrots, and ginger, 12 oz at $3.25. I needed some quarters for the meter and I was parked right in front of the place so it naturally seemed like the place to go. I'm not the type of jerk that'll just go in and expect a place of business to hand over quarters to someone how doesn't buy anything, instead I bought a bottle of water and a coffee cake, not the high-end items but does it really matter? I just needed quarters. The 3 ladies working behind the counter were really nice; I think the one that initiated helping me was new since she seemed to getting trained on the cash register. They rung me up, I got my extra dollar of quarters and went on my way. I'm one of those herp-derps who watched Fat Sick and Nearly Dead and now wants to drink juice all the time. I got out of a tattoo appointment around the corner and was feeling all WOOWOO exhausted and kinda ill from getting the coloring done, and was like "I want a juice super goddamn bad". Then I walked right by this place! Whoa! I had the one with beets, cucumber, something, and something else. It was super fresh, and I was insanely jealous of the industrial size juicer they had.
