No one picked up and there was no returned phone calls. I am just going to go in tomorrow and pick up my car and take it to another location. Update 6/30: It seemed the mechanics were fine, I'm sure it is a capable shop. I finally got a call on Friday (1 hour before i was going in to pick up my car to move it to another repair shop). The nice person who accepted my car let me know that they had completed the diagnostic. I told him I was just gonna come in and get it since it had been 9 days since i had dropped it off and couldn't get ahold of anyone there. Plus on my voicemail on Tuesday i had said to cancel the diagnostic. I picked up my car and took it to another place. Also worth noting... I responded to the yelp response below on Wednesday with screenshots of my call log and the address where i took it. I got no response from that email address, no phone call, no nothing. I suspect the problems with this place are one or more of the following: * They have a LOT of cars onsite. My guess is that they are accepting too many and we would all be better served if they didn't over commit and said no to some of us. * I am guessing there used to be someone who was in charge of answering phone calls and responding to voicemails and communicating with the mechanics. Now there seems to be no one dedicated to this (though maybe an overworked mechanic who is stretched too thin). On Friday the person i worked with seemed to have no knowledge I had cancelled my diagnostic 4 days earlier. * Maybe they have an automated system for responding to one star yelp reviews... and it is not being monitored anymore. * Maybe their phone system is down or misconfigured and they are losing phone calls and voicemails. * Maybe the owner (or office manager) is sick. I hope they get better if so.

There are 10$ coupons on the internet but was told found them too late. 1.5h to do an oil change. waited 25m for them to start for a 1pm appt while person was on phone. Used to be MPG repair. They do an inspection looking for high profit repair items they can talk people into like they look into carfax records and if they don't see maintenance records they come back with spark plug replacement, replacing radiator hoses etc. The classic stuff. From scotty killmer YT channel: don't fall for the spark plug scam. People forget when the last change was. If you forget take one off and look at it before deciding. OIl change DIY is $20. Toyota dealer sells oil filters for $5. Shocking it is that low. Alawys buy the wiper insert from the dealer, dont buy the entire blade from Costco. Big ripoff. The small piece of rubber you replace is a lot cheaper than replacing the entire blade. Not a fan of the AAA collab. Feel like am being used for profit optimization.

In addition to changing my oil, they did a detailed overall inspection, which included a battery stress test, engine, brakes, and undercarriage. The full report, which included photos, was emailed to me and I was impressed by how comprehensive it was. If you just need an oil change and can do the minor maintenance and inspections yourself, then it will be a bit pricy at this shop (~$170). However, if you want someone else to do all that, it would be cheaper than a dealership.

Time and time again, Rick (runs the front desk and I believe is the owner) and the rest of the folks at Yarnell's have provided our family of cars the highest level of customer service! If you have a Toyota or Honda (or Lexus or Acura), they are the go to place for whatever ails your car. (They do other makes as well, but specialize on Toyota/Honda.) The job gets done right the first time and for the right price. Just this past week, I had the (12V) battery replaced in my 2006 Highlander Hybrid along with the headlight restoration (now I can actually see the road at night!). When everything was done I asked Rick to come out and listen to something I heard in the car for the first time that morning. Turned out to be tons of leaves/debris coming in contact with the AC blower. He pulled out the old air filter lickity split and replaced it. "How much do I owe you?" I said, "No charge." he said. That's just one example of the several times he has helped/provided something at no charge. He's provided advice over the phone several times too! The day Rick decides to retire will be a sad day for all of Yarnell's customers. Yarnell's really understands what it means to serve their community.

They offered me regular ( about $60 ) or synthetic (about $90), when I paused to think, he gave me an honest assessment and told me that for my car, and the type of driving, with my mileage, he suggested the regular as the synthetic may not be necessary. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no pressure of the upsell, and just an honest diagnosis and recommendation. He applied my coupon (found on their website) and I was on my way. PM Autoworks only quotes $200/hour, so a significant savings if it takes more than an hour. One downside is that it took 2 weeks before I could get an appointment at PM Auto for service & diagnostics. While there I had my car fluids changed (brake, coolant, and transmission), tires rotated, spark plugs changed, AC recharge, change out O2 sensors. Pros: * Good communication with Gustavo / Sun. * Friendly staff * Fast service. Dropped off car at 9am and it was ready before 4pm. * Prices more reasonable than Stevens Creek Subaru. * Thorough inspection of vehicle with photos of potential problems down the road. Cons: * Depends on your luck in regards to appointment * May have some extra wait time during drop off or pick-up as there is one person handling pickup / payment. It wasn't too bad for me but allocate an extra 15-20 min to be safe.

I found this shop from Yelp in late 2008 and have been going here ever since. If you are looking for a posh shop such as the dealers than this is not it. However if you want good work at a very fair price than this is the last stop. Each and every time that my '07 TL Type S has been here, the work done to it is top notch. I have never a complaint. Just this morning my check engine light came on and I contacted the dealer as it's was the closet shop to my office; they told me it would cost $150 just to find out what the codes mean. At lunch I took my car in to Independce and Valdamir plugged in his computer and told me what the trouble codes meant, cleared it without charge. He even told me to go to the dealer as it may be under warranty. How is that for service? read more

I took my car in for a warning light--Emergency Brake --which stayed on even though the brake was not on. While a dishonest shop might have told me I needed multiple brake repairs, parts replacements, replaced rotors, etc., the Independence people were so straight up and kind. The proprietor did a quick check, figured out it was just a faulty reservoir monitor that could be easily replaced, and that I could even do it myself if I got the part from a dealer. So not only did I not have to spend big $ on labor at all--I went and picked up the part and replaced it myself--very cool for someone who knows nothing about cars! I would wholeheartedly recommend these honest folks. read more

I brought my vehicle here for service. The employees were friendly, courteous, highly professional, and took the time to answer all my questions without me feeling I was being rushed. The prices here are extremely reasonable and they ordered the parts I needed immediately and showed me on their computer the actual cost of them. The car was also ready at the time promised. They are completely honest and I had a wonderful experience and will be a regular and loyal customer. I've called other auto shops and have received bad service, so please don't waste your time calling around or visiting other shops. I highly recommended u come directly here! read more

I have a very old and beat up car that failed its smog due to a computer code error - I replaced the part indicated myself (my grandfather was a mechanic and I always feel I should try repairs myself!), but the error was still there. Eventually I gave up and took it to Vladimir, fearing that a repair was going to cost way more than the car was worth. It turned out to be a tricky to track down short in the electrical system. They way undercharged me for labor, for which I was so grateful - I had been dreading the cost of getting a new car, but hopefully this one will keep me going a little while longer! read more

Went to fix a power window broken switch. New OEM part costed 215$. He advised that I get a part from the junkyard and fix it myself if possible. Worked like a charm.. he did not try to sell me service I did not need. Thanks a bunch! read more

They do an inspection looking for high profit repair items they can talk people into like they look into carfax records and if they don't see maintenance records they come back with spark plug replacement, replacing radiator hoses etc. The classic stuff. From scotty killmer YT channel: don't fall for the spark plug scam. People forget when the last change was. If you forget take one off and look at it before deciding. OIl change DIY is $20. Toyota dealer sells oil filters for $5. Shocking it is that low. Alawys buy the wiper insert from the dealer, dont buy the entire blade from Costco. Big ripoff. The small piece of rubber you replace is a lot cheaper than replacing the entire blade. Not a fan of the AAA collab. Feel like am being used for profit optimization.

Safe to say, I'll never be back the dealer. Rather than be ripped off, I drove home and found a local independent shop. Reitmeir's came up and they were really good and knowledgeable from the start. My Volkswagen Water Pump and Thermostat failed and my engine started overheating. They replaced the water pump, thermostat, and coolant. The car runs great and I hope I can get another 8 years out of it. I also replaced a PCV / oil separator and they quoted a fair price for labor only. I like businesses that treat their customers fairly and with respect. It's expensive for customers and businesses to stay in the Bay Area, but they follow the golden rule: If you take care of your customers, your customers will take care you. Will come back here for future repairs and can rest easy that the community has a great mechanic to rely on.

To be sure, they wanted a large sum of money just to investigate the source (even though Subaru's own technical guidance referred specifically to 3 likely sources), then the repair itself. I took my car to Advanced Auto Repair for a second opinion. They were methodical in looking for the water leak. They removed the back interior panels to expose the area, then the car went through a car wash and inspected. They found the leak and repaired it. The cost to me was hundreds less the Subaru dealership. The folks here treated me with respect, kindness and really listened to my concerns. They are excellent at what they do, with honesty and integrity. I highly recommend them.

But he insisted on running a full diagnostic which would take days. When I said I just wanted what I'd had before, he accused -me- of being dictatorial. That was pure projection on his part. After my and my family's longtime indy shop (International Auto Clinic in Cupertino) closed after the owner retired, I tried different places for Honda service. Another indy shop (JP Automotive) in San José caused me headaches by misdiagnosing a coil problem and shoddy workmanship. The dealer, on the other hand, while always doing a competent job, tended to be on the pricier side, and I'd almost always get upsold by a service adviser there : "sir, when was the last time you had our fuel injection cleaning service done? When was the last time you had your power steering fluid changed?" Fuck that. I used to see Kaloci and Son all the time while driving down Evelyn to and from the Sunnyvale Caltrain station. When my Honda was making a funny noise after starting it, I gave these guys a call. Facts: * The place is run by two employees -- Bill and Sandi. Bill is the mechanic who does all the work on the cars, and Sandi works the office, answering the phone and writing you up, among other things. * They only work on Hondas and Acuras. That's it. * They're usually very busy. They will likely ask you to leave your car for a few days until they can get to it. If they're super busy, Bill will sometimes come in on Saturday to get work done. * You can drop your car off after hours as they have a slot where you can put your key in an envelope and slide it through. * Bill will check your car over for free and let you know if there's anything of concern. He doesn't seem to be too pushy at all if your car might need work. He'll also film the work he's doing on your car and will show you firsthand why he did what he did. Their invoices are also very detailed and transparent. They diagnosed my car's problem as the starter beginning to go bad. The final cost out the door to replace it was just barely over $500. While certainly not cheap, the price seems to be right based on some independent research I did online. Who knows how expensive it would've been had I had it replaced at the dealer. A few days after I picked the car up, Sandi called and told me that Bill had accidentally neglected to put the dipstick back in the car after he checked the oil level. He had gotten distracted apparently. He was apologetic after bringing the car back, and I can tell that this is not a normal occurrence for him. Overall, I'm very happy with the service I received here. Bill and Sandi are both really nice and give the impression that they want you to know that your Honda or Acura is in good, competent hands when you bring it here. 5 stars all the way
