Husband and I ate at India House on July 3, 2024. We ordered butter naan, chicken biriyani, and lamb Rogan Josh. The butter naan was light and fluffy. The biriyani was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The lamb Rogan Josh was sooo tender it melted in our mouths. Service by Dharji was attentive and prompt. We loved this restaurant and wish we had one in our hometown of Miami. read more

The weekend lunch buffet for $20 was delicious! So many different curries to try. The tandoori chicken was made to order and was hot. The buffet food was lukewarm but still decent. Naan is also given at request but ask for the garlic naan for more flavor. Service was good and fast. There is plenty of seating inside and it was pretty busy . Parking is a bit difficult to find in the downtown location. Don't forget to check in on Yelp for 10% off the buffet price! read more

If I could put 0 stars, I would, I can not believe the service that I was dealt and racism, while visiting this restaurant Today. My friend and I visited here and we were discriminated, i do not recommend this restaurant for anyone unless you want to be ridiculed or disrespected. I feel so discriminated. I will never come back here again! I am currently waiting for the police to show up to sort out the situation. I ordered a buffet, my friend only wanted drinks. I asked her to open up my Naan bread and next thing u know they said we are charging you for 2 buffets even though she didn't eat anything! Just ridiculous! Came here for team lunch. Great venue with a large room in the back so we get private space. The service is awesome here, Valent and Jose really take care of our needs. I had a phenomenal dinner at India House!! It was a member of my party's birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make the meal perfect and with generous extra touches. In terms of the actual food, everything was delicious. We went during happy hour and took advantage of their special pricing on wine and masala fries (which are a must) along with some incredible samosas, and each ordered mains as well. The portions were plentiful, we were all full with about half the meal left to-go! Everything was fresh and perfectly seasoned, and they even ensured that the spiciness level of each dish was customized to taste. Went here for buffet and loved it! Probably one of the best Indian buffets that I've been to. I ordered a mango martini which was ok, but the food was all good. Usually buffets don't include the popular items such as chicken or paneer tikka but they have lots of options. Garlic naan was so warm and delicious! 3.5! Some things are good, some things just don't. My friends mentioned that their lunch buffet on Sunday is pretty good, and so we went to try. The spread is diverse and I was intrigued to try different things. Good things: The sambar (isn't watery), pav bhaji, mango icecream, paneer curries. Just okay: Most of the entrees lie in this section Bad: Chaat, the tandoori kebabs (the added color is eye-opening) For $18, it isn't a bad deal. Delicious & spicy menu options. Great ambiance for date night. My recommendations for bold flavor & a great tasting, yet filling meal are the: CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA Chunks of chicken roasted in a clay oven and then folded into a cream sauce. Chicken Marsala or the Lamb and LAMB VINDALOO Lamb marinated in a blend of potatoes, vinegar, garlic and spices. A side of garlic nann make a the meal!! Both dishes are a fav and are amazingly delicious and you won't be disappointed. The service is enthusiastic and helpful. I've enjoyed it a couple time in the past few weeks. read more

Yummy! This place is great, they offer naan bits with a tikka masala side as their gratis table bread, which starts the visit out wonderfully. The only frustration I had, is that I asked for an American spicy, and I got an American mild, I felt as if there were no Indian spices in my food. I blame this on a mixup or similar, but I can't justify 5 stars with this. I look forward to coming back, everything is fresh and tasty though super expensive for Indian. read more

Not a lot of people have indo Chinese food here but the indo Chinese food is absolutely amazing here! You guys have to try it out. For starters we ordered dry chili chicken, baby corn and sweet corn chicken soup. All three of these items were so delicious! For main course we ordered scheswan fried rice and chili garlic noodles with chili fish it was absolutely delicious. Food was brought out pretty quickly service was really great and ambiance was also really good. A really good restaurant overall! read more

The prices were reasonable, and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you didn't like Indian food before this restaurant, my guess is you will by the time you leave. Went for the weekend buffet with friends. Place located at the heart of the city so obviously the bill was higher than expected. But, I'd visit this restaurant for their service and food quality. Loved their decor, felt so nice being there on Valentine's day. Place was packed but the 5 of us got seated right away. Buffet had surprisingly good South Indian food. Visited as part of a group of 30 and had a great time. Enjoyed the food and drinks in a more intimate closed off area that had enough tables for our entire group. The service was fantastic! Honestly, this is one of my favorites. It's also my favorite Indian restaurant of all time. There are temples I prefer, but for restaurants, this is the best in Chicagoland. Each dish is distinct and delicious. Sometimes Indian restaurants have very similar flavor between their curries. You can tell that much thought went into each of these dishes. There are so many unique choices also. The buffet on Friday and weekends is spectacular. Do not miss it! And the price used to be a tad high, but with current restaurant prices it is quite reasonable. Truly, I fantasize about when I have the opportunity to go back here. The only thing I could say to them for feedback, not criticism, is not to label their vegetable rice a biryani. It clearly is not a biryani. It is still yummy, but not biryani. They know that I'm sure. But for those of us who know Indian food and biryani, it just feels misleading. Please go! And let me know what you think read more

This place is amazing! The buffet is their main attraction, and a steal for the price. The tandoor chicken is unlike anything else I've ever eaten, brought to your table on a metal plate, sizzling on a bed of onion slices. The naan is light as a cloud, fresh and still warm. Some days they have tomato soup that's the best I've ever tasted. Their main offerings change from time to time and the variety is good. The salad is very nice, don't miss their amazing mint chutney. For dessert they have gulab jamun, i.e. dough balls in syrup comparable to Greek lukamades. They also have mango ice cream. I get both every time. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the place is very clean. Even the bathroom has some sort of incense burning so it actually smells nice in there! It's a 6 block walk for me from work but I don't let that stop me. It's a top 5 lunch spot in all of downtown. read more

I was craving some good Indian food. Back home (Louisiana for me) I would always have lunch at this small Indian buffet: A Quick YELP! Search pointed me to the direction of India House. $20 for an Indian buffet in an open, bright, and hospitable setting... I'll give it a go. Found paid street parking in River North on a Friday afternoon during lunch. Easy to find from the street. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and sat within one minute. It was pretty obvious that everyone was indulging in the buffet so once sat I was advised to "enjoy" by a waiter and I did. The buffet had an assortment of traditional dishes with plenty of vegetarian options. I opted for the butter chicken and the fried fish dish as well as the samosas. Everything was delicious and fresh. The samosas could have used more spice for my taste but they were still tasty. Then as soon as I say my grace: a sizzling plate of Tandoori chicken and warm Naan are placed on my table and that pretty much sealed the deal for me. All of the staff were welcoming, accommodating, and smiling. India House is a solid and affordable lunch option with fresh food that is delicious and filling. I'll be back for sure. read more

I have been searching for excellent Indian food since two of my favorites on Devon Ave closed. (Vicroy and Tiffin). Finally found it. I was there for the lunch buffet and the food (and service) were terrific. They offered a large selection on the buffet and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. I can't wait to go back again. I have since spoken to a couple of Indian friends about it and they both said, "Yes, it's considered the best Indian restaurant in Chicago". read more

This restaurant is so spectacular, we decided to go back a second time before we leave Chicago. This time, we tried some new dishes. We did the same appetizer, which we loved, the one with the crispy potato tops and mint water that you pop in your mouth like a shot and the corn dish. We also tried vegetable korma, a tomato paneer & kofta. We also had the cheese-filled nan, and it was all delicious. I wish we had an India House in California! Bring your appetite! This place has one of the best selections of options on its buffet that I've ever seen, especially for vegetarians like me...and I love Indian food! They bring tandoori chicken and naan to your table, which was a nice touch (for those who are not vegetarian). I'd give the taste a 7/10. The gulab jamun was a little soft and the mutter paneer was a little thin and could have had more taste (and more paneer). It was good; not amazing. Jose P was our server and he did a great job taking care of us. Ordered the Blueberry Mojito, Bhelpuri, Butter Chicken and Chicken Chilli Masala with Garlic Naan and Rasmalai. Bhelpuri was really good. Butter chicken was very tasty and so was Garlic Naan. Did not care much for the Mojito and the chicken chilli masala. My only downside like others is the price. Paying around $19-$20 for a small cheesecake felt a bit steep, especially since they don't offer slices. I really wish they had smaller portions available so you could try different flavors without committing to a full cake prize. They package it very well and they also serve you a cute little fork set and a knife for cutting which I think is contributes to the price. The shop itself is very cute with chic décor and a lot of Asian-inspired artwork, which adds to the overall vibe. Customer service was friendly. When I visit Chicago again I'd definitely go back the texture and taste alone make it worth it but I do hope they consider offering smaller portions in the future.

My Oldest daughter woke up yesterday morning asking me if we were going to meet the beautiful Indian Lady at the restaurant. I realized my daughter was asking me about the India House restaurant we went to last weekend, and the girl who greeted us and seated us at our table. Both my daughters were amazed by her Indian Costume and she was supernice talking to our daughters and answering their questions, so they now think we would go there every Saturday as they heard me telling the girl as she was seeing us off that we will be going back there for sure. This was our First experience to Indian Food as a family, even though my Husband had tried it several times before, and it was his strong recommendation that finally made us decide to introduce Indian Cuisine at India House to our kids. I agree he made a great choice. The Food was delicious, and our daughters loved the Nan bread and the Chicken dishes. The Service was excellent. We informed the girl who seated us about our kids and my first experience to Indian food, and she ensured us the Chef could make the food mild for us, still retaining the flavor. The waiters were very attentive and helped us out with great recommendations for first timers. My Husband went for the spicier dishes, and he was enjoying it. I tried some of his dishes and they were really good. I think I am now ready to try spicier Indian dishes, so we would love to go back soon. The kids enjoyed the Mango drink called lassi, and they also have a great choice of Wines for adults. The Indian Ice cream Kulfi was delicious too. Even the Valet Parking team was good, as they were ready with our Car when we came out of the restaurant, so we did not have to wait in the Cold Chicago Weather. The only thing I hope they had different is their lighting style. The ambience is great in dim light, but it makes it hard to read the Menus, especially for beginners who would like to read the description of the dishes. I wish they turn up the lights by a notch so we didn't have to squint looking at the menu. But I have seen this at a lot of other upscale restaurants too. I hope they all realize the guest perspective on this issue and would do the needful to make a change. Overall - Great place for a Great evening. Try it out and enjoy yourselves. read more

0-Star Review - Extremely Disappointed as an Indian Food Lover I had high hopes for this place, being a big fan of Indian cuisine, and visited with my family on a Sunday evening. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing from start to finish. Starters: * Mix Pakora - Greasy and lacked freshness. * Samosa - Clearly homemade, but completely flavorless -- not even properly salted. * Honey Chili Potato - They served French fries tossed in a sweet tomato-based sauce, and it was cold. Not even close to the real dish. Despite the poor start, I remained hopeful for the main course. Sadly, things only got worse. Main Course: * Veg Jalfrezi - Tasted like frozen vegetables tossed in tomato paste and salt. Zero authenticity. 0/5 * Malai Kofta - Below average in texture and flavor. 2/5 * Garlic Naan - Undercooked and doughy. 3/5 * Chili Garlic Noodles - A complete disaster. First, they served shrimp noodles despite us clearly ordering vegetarian (and informing them we're a vegetarian family). Thankfully, I noticed in time and returned it. After 25 minutes, the replacement came: green chutney tossed with oily noodles with no garlic or chili flavor. 0/5 Service: Our server was kind but clearly unfamiliar with Indian dishes and couldn't pronounce or recognize basic menu items -- which made the experience even more frustrating. Ambience: The only positive -- the space was nicely decorated and comfortable. But good ambience doesn't make up for bad food. Overall: Very bad experience. We ended up eating at an Italian restaurant afterward. My entire family was disappointed and upset. Alright, where to start.... When we arrived we were expecting this to be a really great experiance, and from reading the reviews I was hoping for that as well. But.. We were seated by a nice young lady in the back of the restaurant, everything was going great until our waiter arrived. He seemed to be angry, we ordered samosas and chai tea, which were delicious i give you that.. the only bad this was the chutneys. they are bland. no flavor. Almost like they are watered down. We also ordered rice or should i say green peas with little amount of rice. But after noticing his attitude, we felt like he didnt want us there. So we wanted to leave. We were still hungry and decided to order kadai paneer. While we waited, we noticed the waiters talking, and i got the feeling they were laughing at us( dont know if they were, but laughing while looking your way is not a very good sign). We were so uncomfortable, we watched as they seated a very nice group of people and they were treating them better. They (the waiters) were smiling and talking to them and just being totally different We felt very bad, discriminated and we are indian to say the least. When our to go order came it was just left there on the table without a word, the bill as well. We saw our waiter for the last time and he didnt smile at us or say anything, he just motion with his hand for us to exit. OK.. so thats what happened at their restaurant. Now, we got home to eat the paneer and it was so bad. The curry was so bland, no flavor, the paneer tasted like hard rubber. we didnt even finish it. Overall, bad, bad bad. WONT EVER GO HERE AGAIN.. My wife and I have been regulars for weekend dinners at the India House restaurant in Downtown Chicago over the last several months, but Saturday night (1/23) we had the best experience so far in terms of Ambience and Service. We have had the opportunity to visit India a couple of times and learn the Indian Culture, and last night at India House, it brought back memories as we felt we were being welcomed back to India by a very Elegant Young Lady in Traditional Indian clothes, who was very professional and seated us at the best table available, as the place was super busy like every night. My wife and I were very impressed by her hospitality, and her warm personality. The Food has always been excellent at India House, with the wide variety of choices they have - Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Rogan Gosht, Palak Paneer and many more. The Naans (Garlic Naan, Regular Naan) and the Tandoori Chicken are to die for. Like the New Budlight Commercial goes - "Not too Light, Not too Heavy", I would summarize the India House Food as - "Not too Spicy, Not too Greasy, - Just Perfect" I never miss an opportunity to go here for the Lunch Buffet too, as this is the best Indian Buffet I have ever had. I am not Indian but love the cuisine, and from the places I have tried accross the country this has the best buffett and overall experience: -A lof of variety both vegetarian and non and of good quality. -The fresh, just-grilled tandoori chicken they bring to every table on a skillet when you arrive for the buffet is excellent. -Mango ice cream included for dessert is rich, creamy and delicious. -Ambiance is great, especially for competing restaurants in this segment. Decoration of the buffet and the restaurant is also good enough to bring guests. -Have been 8-10 times and service is always quick, courteous, and responsive. You really don't have to ask them for much, they are on the ball, and the manager is generally on top of the staff. -It can get a little bit loud at times, the acoustics are strong and the tables are pretty near each other. Its probably the most expensive Indian buffet in Chicago, but in this case it is well worth it. read more

Ahhhh, India House. I love this place so much. I believe the lunch buffet is the best deal they have, so that is when I go for the most part. The staff is extremely attentive. So attentive in fact, that my sister, cousin and I play a little game to see how low we can get our water glass before they refill it. Trust me when I say that it is RARE to be able to get your water glass completely empty. That is impressive. But if you want to fully enjoy their buffet, I advise against playing this game. Just take my word for it. I have been here once for dinner where I actually ordered off the menu and I had Chicken Chili Masala. So I would've given this place 5 stars, I ordered the paneer makhani and loved it! The portions are large and make the price worth it! The naan was also very good, but then again, I've never had bad naan! Also, this place is like the only place in downtown (besides TGI Friday's) that sells a frozen pina colada! Might not be a big deal for anyone but for me it was huge! I'm unapologetically obsessed with pina coladas and finally I found a place!! My husband said he's give it 3 stars because it was just okay. He didn't particularly like his dish and was disappointed by the spices. So in summary, if you are an Indian food snob, maybe this place isn't for you. Otherwise, come here!! When i come to India house, i feel very happy. they do have some weird dishes that taste good, but overall my satisfaction with this place is good. bad? there has to be something bad about this place right? Fantastic place overall. I/we usually get the same thing(chicken tikka masala and chicken vindaloo). Tikka masala has more flavor and tastier than the vindaloo while vindaloo is bit more spicier. Only downside I can think of is it can get pricey due to the location of the restaurant(it is in prime location so everything is relative). You have to order rice and naan ala carte. Also, parking is ridiculously expensive in the area and its not the restaurant's fault. I still come because food is good and at least once a month, I need a good "internal" flushing of the human organs. Solid restaurant overall. Would definitely recommend. read more

Excellent food, service and variety. The menu has soo much to choose from and the service is amazing! I love the inside of the restaurant! It is decorated with lots of Indian flavor and the music also compliments the ambiance! I love Indian food and I was so happy with the taste and service when I went for dinner. The menu is huge, but the waiter happily helped me with any questions and explanations. The prices are very resonable and the portions are large. They have a wide selection of food to choose from there really is something for everyone. Start with naan which is like or is a pita bread. I had a great dinner at India House last week. The chicken tikka and tandoori mixed grill were both delicious. I was impressed by the wine list. It may initially look like India House is a little pricier than some other Indian restaurants, but rice and naan are included with each entrée, making the prices the same as the spots I like on Devon Street. They recently renovated and the restaurant is beautiful. It fits in with the other trendy restaurants in River North. I would definitely go on a date there or go with colleagues. read more

Dont get scared by the name - the flavours are perfectly balanced and work with each other. The Signature Grill - the best thing to get when you want to try many things. The lamb seekh was moist and flavourful, the malai tikka was tender and yummy and the Shrimp kolivada was just excellent. Lamb Kheema with pav - unexpected looking with a white yoghurty looking topping. But it was yummy and went really well with the soft pav. Butter chicken - I try atay away from butter chicken and chicken tikka masala in most places but reciews seem to rave about it so gave it a shot. Took me back to bombay at my facorite mughlai restaurant that made the bombest butter chicken. Also the garlic naan was also really good. Chicken biryani - Flavourful with tender chicken. I got the sweet potato chaat to start which was really flavorful. I got the jackfruit cutlet as well which was delicious, and tried the Saag paneer kofta -SO yummy! They also gave me some mango sorbet for free which was really kind. Beautiful ambiance inside and the service was awesome. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an incredible meal!

With respect to the cocktail offerings, they were predominantly centered around a beachy feel vibe. If you are not familiar with Goa, it is a beach city in India that used to be one of the prime destinations for Indians to visit. This is a prime reason for the beach vibes in their cocktails. I learned from the bartender, who was on her first day at the job BUT have bartended at the sister restaurants owned by the same owners, that there are similar drinks between the establishments with minor variances. all in all, the service was attentive quick, and always there to provide recommendations based off of particular taste.

I find most fast-casual burger places make something decent, and some make hockey pucks. Meanwhile, this one is leaps and bounds above the rest. The lamb patty on its own was not only soft and well-seasoned, but also brimming with flavor. Then I took a bite of the whole thing and temporarily bounced up to food heaven. The herbaceous, savory, and earthy notes of their chimmichutney took the burger to another level. The veggies added some additional freshness, with the avocado and mayo contributing even more savory notes. Big bonus points for a fresh bun, too! On messiness: The container was small enough that I could barely slide my hands in to grab the burger. This, combined with the somewhat slippery chimmichutney, meant that keeping the burger together was a difficult and losing battle. No worries - less chimmichutney would mean less flavor, and I have no issues eating anything (burgers included) with a fork. Simply, I'd hope Bhoomi Modern Indian Grill considers larger containers for these... otherwise, don't upset the balance! Finally, credit to the service for being kind, friendly, and giving me something hot and fresh after about five minutes! Thus, Bhoomi Burger quickly earned a spot on my favorites. The whole experience was all-around fantastic, and I can't wait to bring all my friends here.

Disclaimer, I'm an East Asian and I didn't grow up eating Indian or Nepali food so take my comments with a grain of salt. Lamb curry My friend and I enjoyed it. I bit into some star anise in the dish, and I wished they gave the star anise more time to incorporate into the curry (sauteing longer and toasting it before), as the star anise flavor wasn't really there. I had to bite into the star anise with the sauce to learn about the flavor profile. Eggplant curry I wasn't a big fan of the dish, as it felt a little astringent and bitter at times. I wasn't sure what it was going for, and I wished it utilized more of that umami flavor from the eggplant to elevate the curry. The curry felt a little overpowering. Fish curry As a seafood lover, this was one of the most special curries I have had. The fish was delicate and soft, which was paired well with the sauce. I would get this again. Chicken Biryani We increased the spice for this dish. The portions were huge and we liked it as a base to the other curries and something to eat with the naan. It was not bad. Mutton Momo (Soup) As a mutton/lamb lover, the momos were flavorful and hearty. They were paired with a spicy tomato soup, which felt different but familiar. We loved it. Mutton Momo (Chillied) The momo was sauted and fried at the bottom. It was paired with some bell peppers. This is the kind of dish where you wouldn't be able to stop eating. Loved it. Garlic Naan Hot, thin, crispy. Even though we wished the garlic was more pungent, the texture was great. Gulab Jamun (Fried Ball Dessert) It was our favorite. The syrup was gingery and had a subtle hint of saffron, and it blended well with the fried balls. This hit home. Overall, the food was decent. It has such a great garlic taste and it was perfect for dipping in here masala sauce. The butter chicken was so buttery. It tasted very similarly to the chicken tikka masala though. Not pictured was our mango lassi. My boyfriend ordered it for us and in was pleasantly surprised. It's like a mango yogurt drink. It has a velvety texture and it was very flavorful. I would definitely get it again. Ultimately, I'd love to come back and try other items in the menu.
