We had a catering order from India Palace and we had the best experience! From the beginning when I called to inquire, they called back when they said they would. My number of guests kept changing (from 25 to 22 to 18), and he said no problem, just let us know the final number on the day of! He called me the day of the pick up to verify. When we arrived, we waited about 5 minutes and he helped us carry everything out to our car, even putting down a plastic cover to protect my trunk in case of any spills! Not to mention, the food was fabulous and we had plenty of it! If you need Indian food catered at a great price and with great service, this is the place. read more

First of all, I want to say that I love Indian food!!! I've been wanting to try this place for awhile so I did and honestly I wasn't a huge fan. Everything was dry and the sauce was runny. The Naan was pretty good but there wasn't anything to go with it. I thought the customer service was great though. Everyone was very polite and they kept my water glass full all the time. I think Korma Sutra had a better buffet. I will try this place again in a few weeks and order something on the menu. read more

What's up the thalis not being able to be carried out? First restaurant I know that doesn't offer thalis on the carry-out menu. I get that, it's small portions, but why should it be precluded from being ordered? I'm a big fan of thalis because you get to try lots of different dishes, kind of like an Indian bento box. So I was more than annoyed that I couldn't order it (it is dine-in only). So I ordered my staples: butter chicken, aloo gobi, and kheer. Butter chicken was great, wish they offered some dark meat pieces but having white meat isn't a bummer. Their aloo gobi was a bit different, but I'm sure every other Indian restaurant has their own way of making aloo gobi. However, their kheer was a bit runny. As in, it was all rice and all liquid. I prefer kheer to be not as runny (but not like the consistency of oatmeal). Deducting stars for not the best kheer and the fact that they don't do thalis on carry-out. read more

Really impressed with this restaurant. I ordered here for the first time tonight, and got takeout. Everything was great, but realized my order was wrong by the time I got home. However, it was still delicious (the chicken tikka masala especially), so I didn't call to get a refund/order replacement. Thirty minutes later, I get a call from India Palace asking whether I had received the correct order. I say no, and immediately they refund the incorrect items. Because they went to the effort of tracking down the incorrect orders and refunding me, my family and I will certainly be back. India Palace is my favorite Indian restaurant in KC. The service is attentive and kind. Plus they were open on Christmas Eve?! Take out is always correct and most importantly the Butter Chicken is delightful. We came for a friend's birthday, ALL the way down here just for the good indian food as described by the birthday boy. He had informed us this place was run by the same family that ran Swagat up at Zona Rosa which had been placed under new management and as such the food suffered. I loved Swagat and I love this place even though they need better signage out front and better decor. The inside seems so brown all over and is very dimly lit. All that aside, though, the food is fantastic like Swagat. I can't eat indian without having paneer naan and I love their chicken masala. I'll definitely come back here. read more

Walk-in, be seated, and enjoy some rather bland Indian food. That is the summary of this review. The location is easy to get to, plenty of seating, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Refills are plentiful for drinks, which is good since everything else is relatively mediocre. The menu is standard with pricing-to-portion size compared to other local Indian restaurants is small. The tikka masala and naan were underwhelming, the tandoori was dry, and the rice was lukewarm. A lack of being able to choose the spiciness of the dishes likely did not help with the lack of flavor of the food. I found the tikka masala to have some heat due an over abundance of cayenne, but a lack of paprika, cardamom, or cumin. I feel the sauce could have been better balanced. Unlike many other restaurants, the chicken itself doesn't seem to be marinated. Overall the food was a bit disappointing compared to the aroma that was floating around in the parking lot. The staff's friendliness is a redeeming quality, but the food needs improving for a recommendation when there are so many other choices in the area which taste like tikka masala should. This is the place all of my native Indian friends tell me to go. It is absolutely hands down the best Indian in Kansas City. Yes that means better than Korma Sutra or any of the other well known places. The waitstaff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I've been told by the owner that their incredible sauces are the product of a grandpa like figure who has been making the sauces the same way for years. We have been going to this restaurant for at least 5 years now and it is always on point. The earlier the better, do lunch for sure the buffet is alway fresh and clean. This is the best Indian buffet I have been to hands down. The Chicken Tikka Masala is luscious and the Vegetable Korma is creamy and flavorful. My wife describes the Beef Korma as marvelous and on Sunday's the Butter Chicken is a treat to be looked forward to all week. The naan is always soft pillowy and a wonderful dipping instrument for all of the sumptuous sauces. We are not the spicy adventurous types but if you are I highly recommend you come in and give it a try. It is sure to sizzle your tastebuds. Lunch Buffet $9.95 one table of selection, I liked the tea offered which is different for buffet usually drinks aren't included. Flavor was good and I liked how it wasn't overly spicy since my spice level is pretty mild. So if you want flaming hot, might not be right for you. I'm not an indian food connoisseur so it was good enough for me, but for conossieur's I'm not sure where it lies. Bathroom was decent. They had samosas (vegetarian & chicken) which I don't think is offered often either. Fried chicken though was pretty dry and hard. Curry chicken drumstick fell off the bone tender, but some pink which was normal near bone. Tandori chicken was white meat and reviewing it could've been more tender but was not as dry as fried chicken. Beef stewish dish was soft/ tender for my 1st piece, 2nd piece was dry, chewy and chalky, so I guess it depends what you got. Parking lot at 11:50am was pretty full so you had to walk, but for some reason 20minutes late many spots opened up. Inside not overly crowded, I'd say 1/3 of the business was full. I would say 3.5 stars, similar to another reviewer because although I'm not the connoisseur. I'm between a fan and A-OK for this restaurant. I enjoyed the food, but some of the dry meat makes me think again. But outside of judging the meat, just the sauces and tea I really did enjoy. read more

I went for a quick graze at the lunch buffet. It was not a total pig-out... just a little bit of this and that. : ) The staff was very attentive and quietly friendly. Of the little spoonfuls of everything I had, two things stand out about this place that should help you decide whether to try it. First, they had veggie samosas and chicken samosas. The veggie were very good. I was not a fan of the chicken. But it you like samosas you can get your fill here... not every Indian buffet has them. Second would be the Tandoori Chicken. It was prepared as usual with the tandoori masala spiced yogurt, but all of the pieces were generous sized drumsticks. They all had been trimmed a bit at the foot end and were cooked with just a bit of char. They were excellent, and it was all I could do to limit myself to just one piece! read more

This is one of my favorite places to go. I absolutely love Indian food. My family and I eat out here on special occasions and the food here is very good. Their chai tea is amazing and their curry is really good too. This place is not as spicy as other Indian restaurants so you won't need to worry about that. We recently had our wedding catered by this restaurant. They were fantastic. Friendly, helpful, reliable, affordable. The worked with us to get the dishes we wanted, at the right spice levels. We had vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free guests, plus meat eaters and kids and spice avoiders, and everyone had several amazing dishes they could eat. The restaurant people showed up on time and set everything up and were very helpful. Everything was exactly what we were hoping for. I couldn't believe how many people who'd never had Indian food before or who believed they didn't like Indian food contacted us afterward to tell us they were surprised at how much they loved the food. My husband and I adore Indian cuisine. I've lived in a number of metro areas and cities, and India Palace is still my favorite. Food from the menu: India Palace has my favorite korma recipe ever. When I choose lamb, it's always perfectly tender. When I choose veggie, I love the chunks of cheese mixed in with the vegetables. I also like other items we've ordered. Nothing has ever been bad. We typically order take-out when we dine at night, and everything is still perfect when we get the food home. Buffet: They also have my favorite Indian buffet ever (daytime only). Everything I try is tasty and fresh, and the variety is sufficient without being overwhelming. They offer a fantastic Indian spiced milk tea that hits the spot. We like to show up right when the buffet opens for maximum perfection, but it's still good when we come in the afternoon too. For an Indian buffet, I find the prices quite reasonable. Atmosphere & Service: The restaurant isn't huge, so it's always easy to get to the buffet. The decor is not overly flashy, and the seating is comfortable. The servers are always pleasant. We generally either hit the buffet or order take-out, so we don't have a lot of experience with full-service dining. Even when it's busy, I've never found it to be loud. When we come in at morning open, it's always nice and quiet. Location: It's actually easy to miss the storefront if you don't know where it is. The restaurant is in the middle of a strip mall, but it's pretty easy to see if you check the streets its between before you leave. It's on the north side of the road. There is plenty of parking in the lot out front. Overall, I highly recommend this somewhat hidden gem if you enjoy Indian cuisine. If you're new to the genre, stop by for their buffet and experiment. I now live in Dallas, a much larger metro area and still have not found its equal. read more

So we tried it again for lunch. They have a nice lunch buffet with veggie, chicken and beef options. I tried a little bit of everything and it was all delicious. They had the following: Chana Masala Chicken 65 Chicken Masala Beef Curry Vegetable curry (delicious) Veggie Pakora Veggie Samosa Some veggie cabbage dish Tandoori chicken Rice pudding Mango pudding some balls in syrup - maybe Gulab Jamun? This place is absolutely amazing. In my opinion, it's the best of its kind in town. While the selection may not be as large as other places, everything on the buffet is fabulous. They are consistent, too. I have been pleased every time that I've had a meal there. If you go on the weekends, it costs a few bucks more - but they offer more selections. The service is on par with what you would find at the finest dining establishments. The management here go great measures to ensure your experience is great. Just know that they are closed on Tuesdays. There is another Indian restaurant down the road that serves a buffet. It doesn't even come close to the quality of India Palace. I am probably partial to India Palace considering it is the first place I ever indulged in Indian cuisine. Boyfriend and I have returned many times since then and have tried many of the dishes on the menu and everything we have tried has been delicious. Each dish is different and flavorful and I have never left dissatisfied. A few of my favorites would include the butter chicken, lamb tikka, and the chicken jalfrezi (my absolute favorite). We have tried a few appetizers as well and those have been great, just be careful because portions are large. The service is excellent with extremely friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff that will make your food to your preferences and make suggestions if asked. Their only downfall is they are closed Tuesdays, which is today and I am craving some Chicken Jalfrezi. But in all honesty, this is a great place to go if you have never eaten Indian. Sometimes, around 10 am my mouth will start to water for the rich flavor of Indian Food. India Palace's lunch buffet is the perfect cure. It is great for India food lovers and amateurs alike, because the buffet allows one to indulge in their favorites as well as explore new tastes without committing to one entree. The vegetable korma and chicken masala are definitely the best. Included in the buffet which runs around 10 dollars, you get warm Nan(Indian bread), rice pudding and other Indian desserts as well as chai tea. They are opened in the evenings and offer off the menu dining. Although they are not open all day on Tuesdays..Ironically the day I seem to crave Indian food the most. India Palace is definitely an affordable way to enjoy authentic Indian Cuisine. I'm certainly no expert on Indian food, but for my money, India Palace might be the best quality lunch buffet in town. Very reasonably priced, and they do a great job of keeping everything fresh and full. My personal favorite is the Chicken Masala, paired simply with rice and naan. It's a great way to fill your gut, leaving you with that uncomfortable satisfaction we all know so well. Love the rice pudding as well, and usually enjoy a second bowl. read more
