A great competition for the Bombay House! The owner used to work at the B'Bay House and has now set up his own shop. They have an amazing lunch buffet thats very reasonably priced and quite yummy! I am reviewing their lunch buffet only. It is $10 per person and opens from 11:00 am - 2:30 pm The buffet was awesome. They offered coconut soup, steamed veggies, noodles, nans, various curries made with chicken and none of them were bad. In fact their curries were quite delicious. I liked their shesh kabobs a lot too. There were a handful of vegetarian-friendly dishes and they were also very well-made. There is a small salad bar and two or three dessert items. The rice pudding was simple and to my surprise not loaded with sugar like most places. It was actually delightful. Service is a bit TOO attentive for my liking. I mean who doesn't want to have a full glass of water all the time but the guy wasn't "friendly" and had a poker face and he kept coming back to our table to refill our 90% full water glasses to the point that he's kinda in the way between me and my food....and I am not amused by that...at all. I'll start off by saying that my wife and I love Indian food and seek it out every where we go. We came across this place on Yelp.com and after reading the reviews decided to give it a try. We usually go around the corner to the other Indian food place and I must say we will continue to do so. (Bombay House or even Royal India in Sandy) The staff is very nice. We had one of our waiters that was obviously trying to rush us out the door. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Coconut Korma, garlic naan, and the sweet naan for dessert. The Tikka Masala was not even edible. It had so much acidity to it that we just boxed it up to take home. There was obviously no cream or butter to it. The Korma was really good, no complaints. The garlic naan was just alright, too crispy that I could not bend it to eat with my food. The rice was more like a sticky rice. I prefer it to be more on the fluffy side. The sweet naan was incredible. Best thing we had. Remember that we boxed the Tikka Masala up to take home? Well the next day the wife decided to make it taste good. By adding some cream (which obviously had none prior to us adding it) and a bit of butter, it was SPOT ON! I realize that cream and butter are expensive, but Tikka Masala should have these two ingredients no matter what! Maybe they forgot it, maybe they don't add those two items, maybe we are supposed to take it home and add it yourself, kind of like a "take and bake" Indian food joint, but the moral of the story is that it is inexcusable to forget the cream and butter. If they had the cream and the butter I would be rating this a 5 and going back on a consistent basis. It was SPOT ON after adding the cream and butter! Sadly we won't be coming back there are too many other excellent Indian joints in SLC and in UT County. read more

O. M. G. I just started thinking about the fact that this place has an incredible LUNCH BUFFET and I got super hungry. Let me repeat this. LUNCH. BUFFET. BUFFET!!! I FEEL SO AMERICAN BEING SO HYPED ABOUT THIS BUT BUUUFFEEETTTT!! My friend and I come here often for the lunch buffet because there is nothing better in this life than all-you-can-eat curry. And it's so good. It's none of that kind of decent curry. This stuff is legitimate. Nothing can come between me and my love for chicken korma/tikka masala. The naan bread has me salivating right now. I've never gone for anything but the buffet so I'm not sure how the prices vary, but the buffet is so ridiculously decently priced for the fact that you can gorge yourself on the best curry in Utah Valley. On certain days, it's crazy busy and on other days it's pleasantly filled. The waiters/waitresses are really sweet and attentive, but not overly pushy or intrusive. Yes, I'm going to be one of those people who says that she misses more authentic cuisine from various states in India rather than food catered to those whose ancestors walked across the plains with handcarts. India Palace, like pretty much every other Indian restaurant in Utah, offers Punjabi food. That is a very small sliver of Indian cuisine, but it's what 90% of America thinks of when they think "Indian." Coconut Korma. Tandoori Chicken. Tikka Masala (which actually is a British dish). I will say that the $10 lunch buffet is a great deal for your dollar. There were 9 entree-style dishes, 2 rice options, and 2 types of naan, along with salad and dessert. The dishes all stayed warm and somewhat moist during my lunch. Here's what I ate, and what I thought of them: Chicken Korma: 3.5 stars. The thighs were moist and tender and there was a good balance in the flavors, but I just didn't think there was enough of the flavor. Chicken Tikka Masala: 2 stars. A poor version of this dish. The breasts were dry. The sauce was far too tomato-y. Curry Pakora: 4 stars. This was probably my favorite, although it wasn't as sour as your typical pakora dish. Chilli chicken: 3.5 stars. Not much heat at all but one of the strongest flavors of the lunch. Saag paneer: 1.5 stars. The curds were gigantic and oddly tough. Aloo and vegetable dishes: 2 stars each. Boring and dry with overcooked vegetables. Plain Naan: 1.5 stars. Skip it. Butter Naan: 4 stars. Watch the buffet table like a hawk and get 'em while they're hot! The spice factor here is very much lacking, and generally the flavor is, too. But with warm and plentiful all-you-can-eat options for only $10, India Palace wins 3 stars from me. read more

We went the night before Valentine's Day and there was a giant Galentine's day party going on. They were loud and disruptive and it was a huge group so having to serve them first,it took 45 minutes for us to get our food. And then they pulled out a penis piñata and started hitting it. Which I thought was pretty inappropriate in a public setting not 10 feet from several older groups and couples trying to enjoy a Valentine's Day dinner. The service was decent aside from the long wait-- our glasses were always full. But it was the same price as Bombay House and I would rather go there for a nicer atmosphere, shorter wait, and lower risk of witnessing a public debacle when I'm trying to enjoy my meal. read more

I really would like to rate this 4 1/2 stars because it wasn't perfect - but it was very good. We had dinner. First, the menu is extensive, possibly the largest selection I've seen. If you like lamb there are a dozen choices. There are several varieties of fresh baked Indian bread. Beef, chicken, seafood and lots of it. So you're bound to find something you like. Many of the dishes can be ordered in varying degrees of spicy, which is nice. Overall most of the food was excellent - fresh and flavorful. There were a couple of things we were less impressed with than others but nothing that wasn't decent and most was exceptional. The hosts were also very nice - we chatted with Mr. Singh about the cuisine from different regions of India. They were all friendly and attentive. It's a very good restaurant and while not cheap, certainly not overpriced - they bring you a TON of food. Two thumbs up. read more

Tried this for the first time yesterday with some friends at a conference; WOW. The service and atmosphere were wonderful. I got the Lamb Korma with Garlic Naan and a Mango Lassi. It was absolutely delicious. The lamb was perfectly done, and the spices were delectable (I chose the 'Mild' spice option). The naan and mango lassi were heavenly. I would return in a heartbeat. Best chicken tikka masala ANYWHERE, but everything is good. The onion kulcha is to die for, and my kids beg for mango lassis every chance they get. My family has been eating here regularly for a decade. We travel extensively, and always try the local Indian restaurants wherever we are. We have yet to find one as delicious. It is the favorite restaurant of all of my children. The owners are the sweetest (they've literally watched our kids grow up, and ask how they are when we dine without them). So good my taste buds wept for joy! So much variety and luscious flavors forced my stomach to stretch to a unprecedented capacity. The mango chicken and mango rice were possibly my favorite of the dishes I tried, but they were all so delectable it's hard to say. I love their fresh breads and the tamarind chutney was heavenly. I enjoyed the coconut soup, too! Also, India Palace has excellent service. My glass was never completely empty and the owners came around offering us more food fresh from the kitchen. Everything at the buffet is excellent and always fresh. It's quick, usually not too crowded and a nice place to sit for lunch. Love the chicken saag, coconut korma, masala - everything. The Staff is very courteous and attentive though they did try to clear my dad's plate while he was still eating...lol ("Hey! Hands off!). So one day we were having the lunch buffet and there was a mother and her toddler having lunch in the booth next to us. The young boy left quite a mess - rice all over the table, bench seats and floor. After the mother/son left, the staff didn't just clear the table off. They pulled the tables and bench seats away from the walls and made every effort to ensure that not a single grain of rice was left anywhere. I mean they were absolutely thorough in their cleaning efforts. Three staff members were dedicated to cleaning and it appeared a manager came to give approval. That kind of pride and effort to maintain a clean restaurant really impressed me. So I'd say the food is 4/5 stars (maybe 4.5) but because of their tremendous efforts in cleaning - well I just have to give them the full 5/5 stars. This place is one of the few places in this valley that has it all. Great service, great food, great environment and good prices. This is where my wife and I go whenever we celebrate anything. Very personalized service and the owner Amrik will even remember what you ordered from the last time you visited. We've probably been here a dozen or so times in the last 2 years, and that's not often enough. We've tried just about everything on the menu and while everything is good, our personal preference is the tikka masala and the dhal. But our friends who are Indian really like this place too. 2 entrees should be good for 2-4 people depending on how much leftovers you want. If you've never had Indian food this is a great place to try out. If you don't know what to order just ask the waiter for some recommendations. The garlic naan is so good and baked in a tandoori oven so its got the crispy outside. They've also got some great fruit drinks. This is a little fancier than a lot of places. Great ambiance, mood. I've been to the India Palace 6-12 times over years and have liked it in the past. It is less crowded and actually had newer nicer decor than the Bombay House a few blocks away. However this week we went to dinner and a lot had changed. There were lots of new Indian fabric hangings and it looked cluttered and kitschy. There was a loud TV playing loud Indian soap operas. Worst of all was the change in service -- our server repeatedly asked us a question and then looked away or walked away from us in mid-order. Then after our food came, one of the servers kept trying to clear dishes away before we were finished eating! Really unpleasant to have to keep fighting them off your plate and make you feel like they're ready for you to leave when there are empty tables all around you! This is my hands-down absolute favorite restaurant, no contest. The first time I ever went was literally followed by multiple dreams about returning, and oh, have I returned since! It's wonderful for meals with good friends, date nights, special occasions great and small and will clear up any cold you have if you're not afraid of a little spice :) It's not the place to go if you want to eat cheap, but it's a far cry better to your wallet than, say, Tucano's. It's somewhere in the Applebee's to Macaroni Grill price range, and the experience you get with it will be much better than either. My favorite dish is the chicken coconut korma (medium spiciness), but everything I've tried from their menu is delicious. I would also strongly recommend the peshwari naan--it's worth the few dollars more than the simpler ones. The portions are generous, and you will never go home anything close to hungry. The staff is the friendliest and most attentive of any restaurant I've ever been to. You can barely go two sips into your drink before they top you off, which is especially helpful if you ordered a spicier plate. In my experience they've also brought more rice to the table (for free!) if we were running low and still had a bit to go with the rest of our plates. Seriously, they are the best. The atmosphere is great, too! It's brightly decorated, and the lighting is ambient and cozy. They have Bollywood-style music playing most of the time, so that's fun, too. A minor complaint I do have is that it can be a little too warm on hotter days, but I suppose that should probably be expected. And then just as a warning, I guess, the parking *can* be a bit of a pain, but such is the nature of downtown Provo. Largely unfamiliar with Provo I was unsure where I should eat. He assured me he'd eaten here over one hundred times so I agreed to try it. I followed him inside. Great lunch buffet at India Palace, and I don't normally do buffets of any kind. The buffet here, however, is well kept and the food is fresh from the kitchen, where you can hear the pots and pans banging around. Nice enough staff, efficient. They always keep the water glasses full, and you'll need it here. Lots of spice and flavor in this food. Some people have a problem with the spice levels, but I find it barely detectable. Good naan and chicken selections. I love their vindaloo and tikka masala. They do a great job with the standards. Plenty of vegetarian options. There are only a couple of entrees here I don't love. I don't even recall which they are. Each time I've been here they have a rice pudding thing for dessert but it's not my thing so I skip it. Plus I'm always too full for anything considered dessert. I'm not sure what the deal is here but there are always lots of families with tons of children when I come here. I guess I just can't imagine this would be the choice above Utah's family favorites, The Chucks (Chuck E Cheese & Chuckarama). Good pricing for quality, delicious food. I love it here. read more

I am a sucker when it comes to Indian food so I will gladly rave about most Indian food. This place was good. The naan was Delicous and the service was quite good. I thought the food we ordered was cooked well and brought to the table in a quick manner. I had the chicken tikka masala. I liked it but the better of the two dishes we ordered was the butter chicken. I ordered mine medium and in definitely was a mild. Overall it was a satisfactory meal. I was intrigued that they do a lunch buffet and would love to try it. However, I do think Bombay house is better and gives off a better vibe. I've eaten here 20-30 times and it is good every time. The coconut Korma and tikka masala are my favorites. I must admit I don't vary much from these two when I go. I much prefer the garlic naan to the regular, although the other is just fine I'm sure. Also, if you're not very hungry sharing one meal works fine. The portions are great. I also recommend the Mango Lassi if you're looking for a treat. And if you had to choose between this place and Bombay House, India Palace has my vote. I enjoyed the lunch buffet, you get Indian food for not that much money. You can't get much better value for your money then a lunch buffet at India Palace...plus the food was pretty good. Because of the buffet style lunch some things got dry, but that didn't stop me from eating a ton of food ;) and the Naan flat bread frequently ran out, but they refilled it often enough.
