Welcome again to...Hong's Honest Food Review. India Palace: Located by 36 and 35w, it's easy to ignore this restaurant that sits on a frontage road. It doesn't look fancy on the outside. Truth be told, i thought is was going to be like a perkins or denny's. Came in the door and was quite impressed with the look of the restaurant. It had a dim yellow lighting throughout the dining area. Tableware was very nice. Looked like a date night place. The service was excellent. They checked up regularly and filled the water every time they came by. They were very pleasant. The food: Vegetable Samosa: I love samosas whether it's from a Mediterranean, African, or Indian restaurant. The crust is crispy. The filling was curry potatoe. It was savory and soft. Pretty good samosa. It cam with two sauces. One was a milder, sweeter A1 sauce. The other was like a chimichurri sauce. You could taste the colantro and onion in the blend. Both were good. Briyoni: Best way to put it, it's like another version of paella. It's as if the rice was cooked in a stew. The rice wasn't dry, and soaked up the curry and spices flavor. I tasted a chutney flavor in the dish. There was shrimp, chicken, and lamb. The chicken was flavorful. Mostly savory but comolented the flavor from the rice. The shrimp had shrimp texture but tasted like the curry stew base. The lamb was awesome. It had that light bitter taste but but had a texture of pork. It mixed very well with the curry and was super tender. It came with a white sauce that almost reminded me a taziki sauce from a gyro but it was served cold with a lot of veggies in it. Naan bread came along with the dish as well. The bottom was ao crispy from being cooked in a brick oven. Then they topped it off with garlic. It was delicious. For dessert it was a deep fried milk ball smothered in syrup. Very sweet. Texture kind of reminded me of a krispy kreme donut. Not bad. All together, it was a good new experience with a food i haven't tried before. I would go again. Prices per plate were $15+. 7.7 out of 10. read more

I was surprised to find excellent and authentic Indian food in Minnesota! But India Palace was a rare and unique treat. On my travel I had an excellent curry with rice and naan. Everything had an amazing homemade taste and the Indian medium was spicy enough but I think I'll go for Indian hot next time. read more

Good service. I ordered the vegetable Korma and my companion ordered the Chicken Josh. The Josh was flavorful, but not hot, like we had hoped. Perhaps have a conversation with your sever about what you expect for heat; don't just ask for spicy. The Korma was a bit bland for my taste. The veggies inside were cooked perfectly. I absolutely love going to this restaurant! The menu is very large, and I have never been disappointed. The vegetarian selection is fantastic, and the flavors are great. You have the option to select different spice levels. They even have a nice date-night special. There's really something for everyone here! If you have a nut allergy, read the menu carefully and ask the staff members; some of the dishes include nuts. The pricing is fair. I always get two meals out of what I order. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very different than what you'd expect from the exterior. It's very nicely decorated and clean. read more

The dinner for two is a GREAT deal! We ordered the vegetarian dinner for two and got two full entrees, two types of naan, an appetizer, and dessert for about $40 with tip included. Pickup was seamless and the food was packaged well for the ride home - no leaky containers! All the food was incredible. We especially loved the Gobi Manchurian (fried cauliflower in a marinade) as an entrée and mix pakora (reminded me of falafel) as an app. The gulab jamun (similar to donut holes but more dense and in a syrup) were some of best I've had. The logistics of ordering suck 0/10. If you utilize ordering apps to help assist with orders then adjust the "availability." If you open at 11 and your order states it will be available by 11:15 am. Something strange happened here. This used to be a good spot for buffet pre-COVID 19. After that the a la carte menu was dependably above average. This last time though... I don't know what's going on. The sauces are nothing like they used to be, bland, no trace of ground spices, definite starchiness like jarred sauce. One dish ordered mild, the other ordered super spicy, both exactly the same. Rice was more long grain California than basmati. Service was never great here but now they started forgetting things from the order. They forgot what onion chutney was, something that was a real highlight of the old buffet. We overheard the next table tell the waiter their food was inedible; normally I think "Karen," but this time I could sympathize. I wonder if they suddenly lost all of their cooks at once and are trying to make do with packaged sauces. read more

I like this restaurant more and more each time I come here. The lunch buffet is small, but still an excellent value for what you get. The full dinner menu has never once disappointed us. The cook and spice of the food is always on point. This might be my favorite Indian restaurant in the twin cities, but I have a few more to try before I'm sure. I ordered lamb biryani and it's the worst I have ever had. I can even make it far better than that. The lamb was overcooked and tasted stale, the owner himself was not very friendly. Not sure about other foods but I definitely wouldn't waste my money on them. read more

What can I say? I love their chicken Tikka Masala and their lunch buffet. I think their lunch buffet is a great value. Their buffet is always hot and fresh. The rice it's on point. The naan is soft and warm. Their mango Lassi is also very scrumptious. It's got the right blend of sweet and tangy. Thinking of it makes my mouth water. The staff is also very nice. Of course I went for the buffet. I subscribe to gluttony. Chicken tikka masala is my absolute favorite Indian dish, with same garlic nan bread to dip, or over a bed of rice. I don't care if I leave the place smelling like I marinated myself in that stuff all day. I'd eat me for smelling that delicious. There's a variety of mush for main courses for the buffet, with the exception of chicken tandoori, samosas, and salad stuff. I go for the masala whenever available, but you'll find plenty of flavorful creamy/soupy dishes. Most of the dishes had some sort of "ball" of meat or veggie substance that added to more of the mushiness, but over rice or with nan the texture is fine. Service was fast and friendly. This location doesn't blow me away, there aren't as many options for the buffet as other India Palaces, but it fulfilled my cravings. read more

A friend of mine came over to my place about two weeks ago, and with him he brought a little container of leftover rice, veggie curry, and tandoori chicken. I mooched a bite off of him, and my mind was blown. I asked him where he got that, and he directed me to India Palace. Since that fateful day two weeks ago, I have eaten here three times - and that was me showing constraint. My god, this is some good Indian food. My husband and I order the Tandoori dinner for two. It's amazing. The sheer volume of food you get blows my mind. Appetizer, a platter of various proteins, veggie curry, rogan josh, rice, naan, and dessert for $38? Heck yes. The first time we got this my husband and I both stuffed ourselves silly, and we still had enough to each pack a VERY HEFTY lunch for work the next day. I ordered this meal again last night for carryout from the Minneapolis location, and this time we shared the meal with our roommate. Still, we once again had ample leftovers for lunch. I highly recommend this meal to anyone, though be warned - you'll want to wear your stretchy pants. My favorite thing on the menu that I've tried so far have got to be their veggie samosas. The crust is flaky, the filling is flavorful, and the two sauces they serve with them (jalapeno and tamarind) are divine. The rogan josh is also very good. I just got back from their lunch buffet and I am really impressed with the food. The staff is quick and courteous. The restaurant is clean and the arrangement of the buffet is good. Good variety of items both vegetarian and meats. The foods are well cooked and tasty. The vegetable biryani was awesome and the naan bread was soft and fresh. Chana saag was delicious and so was Malai Kofta. All that for $8.99 Definitely, one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to in the States. Good job people. read more

If you're going to judge a book by its cover, perhaps this isn't the restaurant for you. They definitely don't focus on the fancy exterior or interior decors. It's relatively clean and the staffs are very nice based on my previous two visits. My friend & I have only had dinners here, so we can't speak for lunch experiences. We were seated promptly and service was swift. We had a movie to catch, so we just ordered something small to share. We enjoyed the: mango lassi, lamb samosas with house chutneys, chicken tikki masala with garlic naan and basmati rice. We enjoyed our dishes and will definitely come back. We went to this place for dinner. It was not much crowded. It has good seating capacity. It was quite clean. The ambience of this restaurant is very nice. The food is awesome. Its very delicious and the quantity was also good.Had ordered chicken biryani , Chicken tikka and Chicken curry. All the items were properly cooked and spice level adjusted to our needs. The staff was also friendly. But the service can definitely be improved. When we entered the restaurant we had to wait quite some time to be seated, as one one was present at the counter. Even to order we had wait quite some time as no one present to write down our orders. Dont know, if it was because they were short staffed on that day or its a routine. But going to give them benefit of doubt on this one. Rest everything was excellent. read more

I cook a lot of Indian curry at home. I have perfected my recipes over and over again, and we enjoy a wide variety of very hot dishes with everything from chicken to shrimp to beef. I even managed to convert my "ketchup is spicy" Midwestern husband into a curry fiend. Tonight I just wanted some takeaway so I didn't have to cook. Good thing they open for dinner service at 5pm. The restaurant has been remodeled and upgraded a bit on the inside. It looks nice, and smells out of this world when you walk. We have dined at India Palace in Roseville before but it was a few years ago. The service was gracious and prompt. We had their Chai tea which they kept refilling, it was delicious. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and a Lamb Rogan Josh. Both dishes were great, but could've used a bit more heat. Next time I'll order it "extra hot". Hot is good but I'm used to hellfire. Vegetable samosas are thick and crispy and filled with potatoes with a mild amount of spice. I absolutely adore their mint chutney and their tamarind chutney. I dip my naan bread in it too. Basmati rice is extra fine and makes a great accompaniment to any dish. Other dishes I've had that are excellent are the Chicken Kashmiri (green peas, onion and tomatoes in a cream sauce), paneer naan, and Beef Curry. I can't seem to fathom why it's taken me so long to return for more of their delectable Indian dishes. We brought our dinner home tonight and sat around the dining room table like a bunch of curry-stuffed sloths, glazed and satisfied. Couldn't have imagined my evening turning out this happy! This has been our stand-by Indian place now for sometime in the Roseville area. We were first introduced here by a missionary couple who served in South Asia! Well that says a lot. The curries are great, and there's even mango pudding and rice pudding to top off your lunch. Just be mindful it's a popular lunch joint, so parking on their small lot could get dicey. Tucked away in roseville, this one was a gem of a find. Really tasty food and fast service. They have really cool dinner for two deal too which honestly could work for a thruple haha. So ya'll threesomes go get some great indian food. Their curry was on point so was the tandoori a d the skewers! The naan was ok. The garlic nan didn't use fresh garlic I could tell by the flavor of the prechopped ones you can buy at stores. But minor grip, still pretty soft and fluffy. The vegetarian dinner for two was an amazing deal for delicious food! We got the vegetable korma and the bangan bharti (I think?) and loved them both. Spice is a definitely on the mild side, so may want to order up a spice a level. The garlic naan was fab. The samosas weren't my favorite, but the rest was so good we didn't mind.
