HORRIBLE place. Here is what happened to me and my friend. We went there on 12/28/22 at around 5/6 p.m. We sat at table A5 and our waiter was Charan, according to my receipt. I ordered Curry Pakora, which are these delicious fritters in a yogurt sauce. I've had this at other places and it was delicious. It came out and it was a pile of potatoes and onions in this weird soupy yogurt sauce. It looked and smelled disgusting. I told the waiter this was not what I ordered and he insisted that the gross slop in front of me was exactly what I ordered and it wasn't. When I described what I believed Curry Pakora to be, he claims what I was describing was Malai Kofta, which it was NOT. It's a totally different thing. When I told him I wanted the kitchen to remake it, he said I would have to pay another $14 for a new meal. So I paid $14 for a meal I hated and he refused to make me happy in any way. He said the only way they would prepare a new meal was if I paid for it, even though there is no way that a vegetable dish like curry pakora costs the restaurant $14. He refused to make us happy and then when he made it awkward, my friend generously shared my meal with me. He came back only one time the rest of the meal to fill up water once, and he came back again to take our money, and someone else had to come back for actual real service. It was such a disaster. I have never been treated so rudely in my life. I love Indian food and I know it very well. But it is HORRIBLE here, and moreover, so is the service. I will never be back at this particular restaurant location again. read more

I can't comment on anything but the food as we ordered through Bite Squad. That being said the food was stellar. My husband and I loved Indian food, but since moving to MN we have had a hard time finding anything good near us. My sister in law was visiting and she also loves Indian food. I had seen India Palace on Bite Squad before so we decided to try it. We got about 4-5 different dishes off the menu, all vegetarian. I was really impressed with how good this food was. It had really authentic flavors and it didn't tone anything down. I find a lot of ethnic food places in the Twin Cities have to tone down certain flavors, but this place didn't do that. It was nice to have those spices and textures again. The standout to me was the chili cauliflower dish we had. Lightly fried, lots of heat, and good seasoning. They also don't dumb down the heat either. You never know with places if you will get the authentic heat or the white person version. They do authentic heat here. Indian medium is like our hot. We ordered medium for most of our dishes and one at hot. They all came out at that perfect level of heat. I really appreciated that. I hate doing this, I REALLY do. India Palace was our family's go to place for a night out. The dinner for two is such an amazing deal! However things have changed since the pandemic. I've now had takeout from them maybe 10 times, and this is my take away: Pros: - The food is always at a great temperature! - The samosas are amazing, as always. Cons: - They don't seem to read order alterations (ie no peas). - Items are REGULARLY forgotten from our orders to the point I don't feel comfortable leaving the parking lot without checking first. - The spice level is never adequate. We normally order hot when dining in and are satisfied. Even ordering in VERY VERY hot it is not enough to break a sweat. - Spices change each time we order the usual Shahi Paneer and Vegetable Korma, and there are notable flavor profile changes. THE BIGGEST AND MOST MIND BOGGLING: The Kheer is now tangy/sour. It tastes BAAAD. Adding sugar does not help. I've had the usual sweet kheer since the pandemic, and it was just as good as in the restaurant. This is the third time I've ordered the Kheer, thinking maybe the batch was just old. NO! Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice, you lose my business. We had a good run, India Palace, but I'm not coming back at this point. Seriously, when I order HOT I mean HOT! It's like they replaced a chef mid-pandemic who has Minnesota taste buds. And for %*#!'s sake, FIX THE KHEER. It was one of my favorite desserts, now it is made with SOUR MILK. PSA from the morning after, I actually tried eating the kheer (only got a few spoonfuls in before I gave up) last night, and it literally made me sick. The food here is very good. If it was that alone, I'd give them 4 or 5 stars. This review is about their takeout service, which is really problematic. I've gone twice now putting an order in online for a specific time, getting a follow up email from them saying my food will be ready at that time and then I arrive and it is not. This last time, my food was ready nearly 40 minutes after the time I scheduled it for. Yes, they were busy, but this is a planning issue. They have to get it fixed. I had no idea of the magnitude of the take out power in this place. I've done take out, lunch, buffet, and dinner service here throughout the years and everything they do is pretty on point. This last visit I did takeout and I was astounded by the perfection- like assembly line in which they do business. I was kind of in awe as I watched the master behind the counter juggle 90% to go calls, pick ups, and payments. No lie that behind the service wall were 15-20 bags of food ready for to go! The food is always flavorful (they do "Indian hot" for me), fresh, and travels better than any cuisine. They run a tight ship which I appreciate too. The best way to describe my experiences here are just plain satisfying. I've never felt more satiated by vegetarian entrees. The spices and bulk of the food make for a guilt free food experience that no other culture can provide. PLUS, there are always Indian people eating and picking up. I went to India palace on a late Thursday night. Service and food was super good! India Palace is some of the best indian food in the twin cities. Yes there are fancier places in downtown, but time and again my Indian friends recommend India Palace and I agree with them. Basically if you are into delicious Naan, Pakora, and Curry you got the right place. I do not think that they have THE best indian food but it is really good and conveniently located and a decent price point. This is a review of India Palace's lunch buffet, which I enjoy frequenting because lunch buffet. Their lunch buffet is served 7 days a week and it's $11 for dine-in AYCE, or for filling up a container to go. I do the latter so I can slurp those curries at home in peace. They always give me fresh naan to bring home and a separate small container for their fantastic mint chutney. Everything at the buffet is clearly marked and always replenished. The deliciousness spreads across different rices, lots of vegetarian options, curried meats, fried items, salad, condiments, and usually a dessert or two. Ugh I'm craving it now. Other notable things: there's a private parking lot, service is lovely, and damn do I love their naan and palak paneer. read more

The food was great, we ordered dinner for two binyari and it was delicious! The best part was how clean the restaurant is. They vacuumed every time someone came in. I then noticed how clean, not only the blinds were, but the bathrooms and even the AC registers were. They were cleaning up the buffet for like 45 minutes, elbows deep, scrubbing the outside and meticulously cleaning every inch! I thought that if the front of the house was this clean, then the back must be reflective, which made me really comfortable eating in this establishment. The Rogan Josh was delicious, as were all of the lamb dishes. I even used to stickier rice, but it was cooked perfectly. Prices were very low. Love this place and I'll be back! This is one of those places that I almost don't want to review, lest the word get out and it becomes too busy for me to get a table at. :) India Palace is this crazy little place with the TASTIEST Indian food. I don't know all of the names of the dishes, but everything I've had has been amazing. Dishes with beef, chicken, paneer cheese...seriously, everything is so good. There are always SEVERAL vegetarian options, which is rad. I'm a meat eater myself, but spent about seven years being vegetarian, and I still appreciate the options when they are presented to me. They always have a fresh supply of naan and rice - both of which are always piping hot and of a good texture. I was worried at first about the naan holding up to being on a steam table, but it does so quite well. The weekend lunch buffet is around $12/person, which is WELL worth it for the quality of the food and the variety of offerings. Be advised that a reservation wouldn't hurt, especially if you are going in a group of more than 4 people. This one time, my friends and I showed up to eat lunch on a Saturday, and the parking lot was full to overflowing, and there were FOUR TOUR BUSES in the back. No joke, the IP was hoppin' that day. It's even pretty hoppin' when there isn't a bangin' party, so again - consider those reservations. If you're braver than I am, you can try the fennel seeds with sugar on your way out. This is one of our favorite restaurants. The service is always excellent, the food is always great (I love their pickles and naan the best). We've never had a complaint when we've gone here (except sometimes when we get the food TOO spicy, but that's my own fault for thinking I could handle it...). My only real complaint with this place is take-out. We've ordered take-out around five times, and each time we're told "20 minutes." I arrive around 25 minutes after my phone call, and the food isn't ready yet. My wait has then varied from 10 more minutes to 60. I'm OK with waiting for a bit if they're really busy (I mean, really, what can they do?), but an hour? We still go back because everything else is awesome, but we won't be doing take-out any time soon. read more

When you order off the menu. Have never tried the lunch buffet - and most likely never will. I've just been too disappointed with every Indian buffet I've been to. The food here is the best Indian food I've had (when I've asked for India spicy) - other than when I was in India. The menu has a good selection of both Veg and Non-Veg options and the naan is great! The general medium spice is a fairly mild but still tasty option. They will make the food at "India spicy" levels for you which is marvelous. Great and friendly staff and Awesome food make this a must-go! Dal Makhani, Lamb Saag, Rogan Josh, Palak Paneer, and butter chicken are all great dishes. They used to be really good but the quality of their food has gone down hill in the last couple years. They use ground meat in the Rogan Josh, they no longer offer Bajhia or Jalfrezi which were my favorites. The flavors have decreased and it's hard to get food that is spicy enough even when asked for very spicy. *TIPS DO NOT GO TO THE SERVERS* All tips go to the owner. Servers get paid $13/hour, which to me is ridiculous because when I was a server I routinely would bring in $20/hour with my tip money. They try to keep this practice hush hush. read more

This is the best place that we've found for Indian in Minneapolis. You probably won't find a better place to get naans, so go just for this if nothing else and try the onion or garlic naans. That said, really every dish we've had has been tasty and generous enough to share. The lunch buffet is also excellent, with a wide variety of goodies. I love the Chicken Curry or Chicken Tikka Masala, oooh. We usually will get the Vegetable Korma or some Alu Mattar. Have a nice Indian tea or mango lassie to go along with your meal. Heaven! This is one of my favorite restaurants by far. Now i'm no Indian food expert so i have no idea how authentic the food is, but gosh darn it, it tastes so dang good. The flavors of the curries and spices just swirl in your mouth so well. I'm currently stuck on the Chicken Marsala with the Paneer Naan. Speaking of the Naan, it's the best in the city in my opinion. Or just everything was overcooked. They have a good variety of items, I would say half meat, half vegetarian. Everything was heavy in curry and cream, but adds to the flavor right? By far this has been one of the best Indian Buffets I have ever been to. Past couple of weeks I have been traveling on the east coast and west coast and most meals have been at Indian restaurants as my in-laws are here from India. My husband, in-laws and I came here for the buffet lunch and it was really good. A great selection for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. I am not a vegetarian but my husband and his parents are. I was very happy with the selection in food. The tandoori chicken was very tasty and tender. If you want ice water then ask for it, otherwise as in India they serve water without ice. Some Indians believe ice is not good for you, well at least my mother in law (mummy ji) does. It's a very clean place and very clean bathrooms. The decor of place is beautiful as well. This place deserves all 5 stars between food, service and the decor itself. read more

First, I was there with a group of about 20 or so. It's probably not the best place for a big group but they did a great job. I ended up splitting a couple of appetizers and a couple of entrees with a few other people. We had the Lamb Samosas. They were perfect, as was the mint chutney. We had garlic naan and onion naan. I could eat naan for my meal and would have been satisfied. For our entrees, we had Chicken Makhani & Shrimp Curry. They were both terrific. We have been twice now, and oddly at the same random table both times. If you can get past the not warm service and dress in layers for dinner, it's wonderful. That said, the owner did walk around to check on a few regulars last night. The place is always packed for dinner and we hope to check out the lunch buffet (which they even have on weekends!). The food is a must. Paneer naan? Get it. Chicken Josh? NUM. let's make that a double NUM. Chicken tandoori is good. Lamb madrassi? Hubby kept saying "excellent" as we ate. Lamb samosas weren't my favorite but Hubby loved them. One thing I would say is when they asked for spice levels, I said medium and Hubby said hot and ours were the same. Ah well. Finally after trying most of indian restaurants - found a clean, good tasting Indian restaurant in Minneapolis metro Naans/Breads : Excellent 8/10 North indian curries : Excellent 8/10 South Indian stuff : Hardly anything on the menu/buffet I would have wished for some south indian stuff, but I would rather have a small variety but great taste rather than a large variety poor quality. It's too bad that the service was so bad here, because the food was actually pretty good. I came as part of a fairly large party, and the waiter didn't write down our orders when taking them, and as a result, a few items never got ordered. So everyone but one person got their food. When asked where the other plate was, the waiter gave us some b.s. about how her dish took longer to cook than everyone else's food. Even if this was actually the case, come and tell her that. Don't make her sit there for 10 minutes with no food. He actually forgot her naan as well, and that never came. I didn't get the drink I ordered either. Another girl in our party was told to "wait outside" when she was standing by the host stand to ask for a menu (We had a party of 13 with 6 menus). Why would anyone ever say that to a person in their restaurant? As for the food, it was good, but it wasn't enough to override the service. I'd rather go to Gandhi Mahal any day. read more

I don't know what the big fuss is about this restaurant. I went to it based on the hype and walked out unimpressed. The food had a generic out of the box feel to it. Nothing seemed original or cooked homestyle. The only thing that seemed original was the naan which was amazing. The atmosphere and service is nice. Also, they get the spice level right, but overall I have had food at much better places. This is a generic place for those that want to venture out and experience "indian" food and "indian" people.
