Unlike most Indian restaurants in the metroplex, Urban Tadka eschews the buffet and has a small daily menu with a variety of items to choose from. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the service was very attentive and had no problems describing the dishes in order to help us make our selections. Our food was freshly prepared, delicious, and served piping hot with warm naan (or rice if you prefer). Additionally, they have no problem tuning the spice level to our particular preferences so even though my wife likes her food quite mild, she had no problem eating there with me while I worked up a mild sweat with mine. We asked for an item or 2 not on the menu and they were happy to meet our request. Top notch. We had: Samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, Aloo Partha, Onion Kulcha, Aloo Mutter, Lamb Saag We had previously frequented Curry's across the street, but their inability to keep a set schedule and provide any sort of notice on closure had left us seeking a worthy alternative. I didn't realize Urban Tadka had opened until fate had it that their competitor across the street had another unexpected or declared closure and I went searching. Glad I did as this will be our new Indian restaurant of choice and even has a welcoming seating area unlike the aforementioned. I've heard back on this review until I'd eaten here 3 times to make sure it really is this good; and it is! Indian has been one of my favorite foods for over 40 years and the little Urban Tadka (UT) right here in Flower Mound is as good as any I've eaten in. Very vegetarian friendly, like most Indian Restaurants I eaten in, but UT has a much wider selection of vegetarian items then most Indian restaurants I've eaten in. Everything I've tried has been excellent, from appetizers to main courses. I have not tried the deserts yet as I am trying to loose weight :). They serve northern style Indian food here which is a bit different than most of the Indian restaurants in our area and I've always been a little bit more partial to northern Indian food, but this place is just plain good, everything I tried, 4 different items so far, has been perfect. The nan seems a bit tastier to me as well; I love the garlic nan as well. No lunch buffet here, but for weekend lunch you get a choice of 2 entrees and a "basket of nan", which was 2 nan breads, 1 regular and 1 garlic this Sunday. I really liked this better than a buffet myself. I've never been a fan of buffets unless I show up as they are putting them out so this suits me just fine but my wife refers a buffet. My wife is not the Indian food fanatic I am but she love's this place as well. Its the first Indian restaurant I've found she is willing to eat at every day. Not that I want to eat at any one place every day. The service is great and has a very family owned and run restaurant feel. Two of the times I've eaten there the seating was half full all with Indian families. This is usually a good sign in my opinion. To put it simply this is the best place to eat in Flower Mound in my opinion. I've been pretty disappointed in most of the places to eat in FM over the years, I've been here 22 years now, and all too often end up driving into the park cities, Addison, etc. to get to a good restaurant. Omg what a delight, the flavours are huge , bold and mostly well balanced. We started with the pakoras and then had the vegetable Korma, lamb vindaloo and saag paneer. Food was decent but the service and flies were horrible. We got there about 12:45 with a group of 6 for lunch. The appetizers came out separately but promptly. It was close to an hour before we saw the first entree. The other 5 plates came out in 10-15 minute intervals. Two people in our party had to take their food with them instead of eating at the table. Delivery services drivers were lined up waiting at the door, up to four at a time. We were there over 2 hours. The place was not packed but tables went uncleaned for an hour right beside us. The presentation of cuisines in special utensils, that is, copper & stainless steel bowls for dishes & silver cups for lassi (Indian style smoothies or buttermilk shakes) makes all that more enticing. Two stars for the Ambience. That was the only good part, unfortunately. The food was not authentic-tasting. Perhaps there was a change of ownership recently and it was evident they were struggling. Many of their online orders were delayed. We saw one delivery driver wait for over 20 minutes. Others were asked to wait as well. Anyway, more on the food. It appeared they had cooked the curry separately and poured the same curry on top of all the orders. It wasn't cooked well at all. The service was slow, too. There were many local northern Indian items on the online menu, but we didn't see them on the physical menu. Perhaps the menu was changed recently, too. They need to continue keeping the great ambience and decor but they need to work on the food. read more

Well to start with this is one of close-to-authentic north indian food in DFW. Initially I really liked the food...slowly figured out the monotony... I think to be a great restaurant you have to be bold and take good risk... That is missing... I like the paneer kadhai best... followed by malai kofta... Tandoori there is huge room for improvement.... please dont put color in clicken while preparing tandoori. The actual color of tandoori is yellow not red... masala is nowhere close to tandoori. BTW none of the dfw restaurants prepare actual tandoori :(. Someday I will bring the Tandoori to DFW :) read more

My wife and I travel quite a bit and this is some of the best Indian food we've had. Tonight we had the samosas - fantastic, the lamb vindaloo, and the chicken Kashmiri. This is currently my favorite Indian restaurant, the service is very good. The atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming also. The pakoras are amazing. My brother order spicy vegetarian eggplant curry( trying to be macho) and that was way too hot for any of us. The goat and lamb curries are delicious (usually what we eat). My only issue is that the tenderness of the lamb in the lamb curry is inconsistent. The taste is always great, but sometimes the lamb has been melt in your mouth tender and other times it has been a shade tough. read more
